Love going to Maxwell's and have been going there ever since I was a kid! My favorite item is definitely the fish sandwich, and yes the 5-10 minute wait is worth it. I'm also a fan of the cheeseburger with grilled onions. The service is always quick and very friendly. They have been raising their prices little by little every year, but I totally get it since everything comes with fries and everywhere is getting pricier. Price is very reasonable and the food will fill you up. I ordered a polish and a pork chop sandwich. The pork chop sandwich was very tasty. The pork chop was very tender and flavorful. I wasn't a big fan of their polish dog. It had no snap and tasty a little mushy. I'm glad I finally gave this place a try. Maxwell Street especially this location was my staple growing up and it still is. They still only take cash only and the smells of the fresh sweet onions still come out of this hot dog stand. I confess that I am not that familiar with Bridgeport, so nearly everything looked new to me (other than going to the occasional Sox game over the years). We sensed the allure of grilled onions in the air, and we wandered into Maxwell Street Depot on 31st Street. This humble joint is open 24 hours, and a steady stream of customers drove into the parking lot in search of a quick bite around noontime. The sign proclaims the "famous pork chop sandwich" - and also states that all sandwiches come with an order of fries, so you cannot deny that this is a pretty good deal. I ate a Polish sausage with a pile of grilled onions on it, and my lovely friend ordered the fish sandwich. I generally love grilled onions, but whether it is at the ballpark or at a hot dog stand, it seems like the grilled onions on a Polish sausage always disappoint my taste buds - Go figure. There is a small counter where you can stand up and eat your food - otherwise some peeps were seen eating in their cars, or just drove off with their orders. The only bad thing I guess is the dining area was closed and there are signs posted you can't eat outside near the restaurant. So we walked a bit and stopped along side the street and ate. Went here around 1:30 am to order some food. I was sitting in my car and saw one of the workers blowing his nose over and over. He went to the sink and rinsed his hands with ONLY water. They can't just throw that up on the side of their building with nothing to back it up. (Can they?) The Bad News About the Famous Pork Chop Sandwich: -It's literally an unseasoned, leathery, bone-in, overcooked pork chop on a generic hamburger bun with generic yellow mustard and onions, and that's it. The Good News About the Famous Pork Chop Sandwich: -It's famous. -It makes for a perfect drunk snack, because... -It's ready in about 30 seconds. They already had them grilled. -It's CHEAP. With a bottle of water and fries (included), it's $4.90. -I didn't break my tooth on the bone. -When you're drunk, you don't mind getting famous pork chop sandwich all over your face as you eat it in about 2 minutes, standing up at the window. So I'm glad we ended up at Maxwell's, because now I'm basically famous by extension.
