The dogs and beef and sausage are also excellent but the P&E is the top 3 in the west burbs easily. Quick friendly service but ask for a fork!! You'll need it. read more

The prices were REALLY high for what it was, and despite ordering a two hotdog, fry and drink combo to split with my husband, our hotdogs were very different from one another. Stopped by on a trip to Downers Grove. Had the Italian Beef, fries, and O-rings. Portions were all great, juicy beef and crispy fries and rings. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Teddy's Red Hots and Beef is of my top five favorite Italian beef places to dine. Except for their elevated prices, the food quality is excellent. Beef is sliced fresh every morning and the au jus has just the right amount of spices to make it not too spicy, but comfortably tasty. Tamales are great, and I love the homemade Italian ice flavors. NOTHING at all like, or associated with the Teddy's on 63rd & Main Streets in Downers Grove. The cash register clerk is ornery and reminds me of a reject from a motorcycle gang. Growing up in the area and attending high school at nearby DG South, I've been to this Teddy's countless times since I was a wee lad. There's another, smaller Teddy's Red Hots on Plainfield in Darien, so try not to get the two locations confused, mmmkay? When we met my parents for a quick bite on 8/23/19, the same guy I remember from my childhood was manning the counter! How's that for trippy? The dude takes your order and relays it to the line cooks behind him, but don't take it personally if he doesn't smile. He's a no-nonsense kind of cool. Back in the late 90's, they had Galaga and a Star Trek pinball table near the front door (which fueled my obsession with arcade games at a young age). In their place was some unplugged jukebox and seating for to-go orders. Man do I miss those games..... I'll admit that prices are pretty high: an Italian beef is $7, standard hot dog $3, and order of cheese fries $4. The i-beef was tasty enough, seeing as how I destroyed the entire sandwich w/sweet peppers in less than two minutes. I highly recommend the Philly cheesesteak at Teddy's! The shaved and chopped fresh prime ribeye is carefully grilled with onions and mozzarella cheese and served on a toasted Turano French roll. The steak is piled high and delicious. It never disappoints! I also recommend the combo. The sausage is outstanding and the beef melts in your mouth. I finally stopped looking and when I had the urge, I'd drive into the old neighborhood. No more. I found Teddy's Red Hots a couple of weeks ago and it is, by far, the best beef/combo for miles around.
