I am NOT a happy customer. I have been here twice. The first time, I thought they were great. I brought in a rain jacket that needed a minor repair at the pocket and also had it cleaned. When I got the jacket back, I couldn't even tell where it had been ripped, it was clean and looking great. The last time I came in, I brought in six items -- two for repair, four for cleaning. Of the four, only one skirt seemed like it had even been cleaned at all. The other items were completely wrinkled, stained, and had new damage from safety pins (attaching them to the hangers) which left visible holes. The items I had repaired were done in a horribly tacky manner. The thread didn't match the garment, they tied the thread off on the front and it looked like someone just carelessly ran a sewing machine over it -- might as well have been stapled. I am SO PISSED. I wasted my time and money and all my clothes look like crap. I really don't think they even cleaned my dresses. I don't know what happened. Maybe they recently got new management, but something they're doing is just plain wrong. To their credit (besides my first visit) their staff is friendly and when I asked about a stain on my dress (before actually looking at it), the man behind the counter gave me $2 off. This says little when considering I wasted about $20 on items that are still wrinkled as if I had just worn them. ... UGH, I am still in a bad mood from this. My repaired clothing looks so bad. If I wanted something any mom could do, I would have asked my mom. She would do it for FREE. If I am PAYING you, I'd like a little professionalism, thanks! Seriously, so hideous. I've had several items cleaned here. A dress, a full length coat, a few tops. I also had them do a vintage sequined sweater and it came back looking brand new. Some of the cheaper prices for simple cleaning. Today I picked up a wool peacoat I had altered. I dropped it off Tuesday at around 3pm and it was done today at 2. Super fast turn around! When I called other places to get a time estimate I was told atleast a week. But Mays alterations people are quick! I had the coat taken in quite a bit and it looks amazing. The seams are so perfect you would never know it didnt come that way. And the fit was perfect. All for only $25. What a bargain! read more

Ruined my worn-only-once black dress with beautiful multi-colored flowers. Gave it back to me with faded flowers and charcoal in place of the once black. Irreplaceable! 2. Sent my lovey kimono-style sweater with the bautifully unique hook and eye closures back to me with 2 of four of those closures missing. Irreplaceable! 3. Great service here!! And I was very happy at how quickly they were able to hem and alter my dresses. It cost me $25 for one dress to be hemmed and $35 for my other dressed to be hemmed and slimmed down along the sides. I was happy with products and I would absolutely go here again. Friday night, getting ready for a night out on the town. Too lazy to wear a dress and heels, so the perfect go to outfit consists of my new Rock n' Republics from Nordie's (Rack) and a sequin splattered top. For an average height Asian girl, designer jeans from the Rack always need a drastic hemming. So I brought my jeans in to May's at 1pm, along with 2 other pairs of pants and a shirt. Ready by 5pm on the dot! Without my asking, they matched the color of the stitching (light blue). For hemming and making the leg skinner, $10 and no extra charge for rush! If I had just wanted the jeans/pants hemmed, it would have been $7 each. Ridonkulously cheap and fast. Since it was my day off / wifey-mode day, I brought them 5 of boyfriend's suits for drycleaning and 15 shirts to be washed and ironed. Drycleaning was reasonably priced ($8-$9 per suit), shirts a little pricier than I would have liked at $2.25 per shirt. It would have been $1.75 per shirt if the person taking my order would have told me that starch costs more =( I don't think her English was that great though, so I'll let it slide. BF said he wasn't blown away by the cleanliness of the shirts/suits...just average. But again, the turn around time was super quick! 2 days. Semi shady neighborhood. But parking is awesome, got VIP parking right in front! In conclusion, I'll my eye out for better/cheaper drycleaning/washing, but I'd definitely return for quick, cheap, quality alterations and awesome customer service! read more

I paid a visit last Friday after reading the reviews on yelp. I got two jeans hemed and one of them the waist altered. I dropped it off around 11am. I was about to take out my cash and the friendly guy behind the counter told me I could pay later and they take credit card! I was impressed. He then asked when I needed them. I asked how soon can you get it to me, thinking it'll be done in a few days, and he said end of the day. WHAT?!?!? where can you find such quick service? It cost $7 to hem pants, $10 for original hem, and $10 to get the waist altered. I'm coming here more often even though I have to drive a little bit further. downside: they close Sunday & Monday. I'm so happy to have found May Cleaners! Finally, a dry cleaner I can trust. And trust is so important when you give your favorite clothes to the cleaners and trust that you will get them back and with their buttons on and everything. The guy who run this place is very friendly and nice. They often call customers by name (i.e. know their names). That's pretty cool. They don't charge an arm and a leg, and the amazing thing is that they can give you your stuff back the next day, even if it's not morning when you drop off. Whoa. The place is on busy Park Blvd, but there is always a parking spot within a block or so, and often right in front or right across the street. They try to accommodate your needs and make you a happy customer. For example, one day I went to pick up my cleaning on the way to work, and my jacket button came off (the one I was wearing) -- they quickly sewed it back on for me, so I wouldn't have to go to work with a missing button or take a chance of losing it. Now I don't even live in Oakland any more, but I still come across the bridge from Alameda to get my dry cleaning accomplished here. I wholeheartedly recommend this place. read more

So...I've been using May's wash and fold for a while now and Im not too impressed anymore. Last time I used them, I picked up my clothes that were still damp. I dropped them off on a Saturday, they said I couldn't get them until Tuesday and when I went to pick them up at Tuesday 1 min before they were supposed to close, THEY WERE ALREADY CLOSED-locked up, shut down closed. After researching dry cleaners in Oakland on Yelp, I thought May Cleaners sounded like a pretty safe bet. We just moved, and I have a backlog of repairs and dry cleaning to do, including my wedding dress. As a test run, I took a few blouses and a comforter with a few rips to be repaired to May. DO NOT GO HERE. Thank goodness I didn't give them my wedding dress! What happened? Well, the man was very friendly and nice. That was a plus. And he assured me that they would carefully check the comforter over for any little rips-- great! Seemed thorough and capable. He asked if I wanted "professional" repairs, meaning that the backing of the quilt would need to be removed, or if it was ok that the patches show through on the other side. No problem, I said. BIG mistake. 1. The comforter is orange and pink striped cotton, a Crate & Barrel quilt from a few years ago. Well, they patched it up all right...in BLACK THREAD. It looks like Franken-blanket. BLACK!!!! 2. One of my blouses smells worse than it did when I took it in, and 3. The other one is all wrinkled, as if it lay on the floor or in a heap after pressing. What the hell?!? I don't need dry cleaning much but this place does great custom sewing projects. I've had patio cushion and pillow covers made with heavy outdoor fabric and they held up well over a few years. I stopped going there when the Parkway closed a few years ago, and a pair of curtains they cut short and hemmed were not sewn evenly. I had more cushions and fabric so thought I'd give them another try. Van was as friendly as ever and we laughed about not finding me in their customer database - as of 3 years ago they were still using paper records! He gave me a good price and a fast 3 day turnaround. They are resourceful with cutting and piecing fabric! I didn't think there would be much leftover fabric, but they had a big piece of remnant that can be made into another cover. Tip- ask to see the zipper & thread options or you'll get random colors that might clash. Or bring your own. I'm having yoga pants hemmed for just $7! I might take more clothes there for repair & hemming. There is a good positive vibe and all staff seem very friendly. Now if only someone would re-open the Parkway theater! read more

So after dropping off my mans screened t's a few times I realized that they just use a regular washer and dryer, whats the point of calling it a dry cleaner?. I dropped off some dresses last week and the white one totally came back with stains i'd never even seen before and it seemed as if they washed it with colored clothes. They're re-cleaning it for free so hopefully its better...we'll see. All in all May's is great for alterations, while they're cleaning skills are sub par. read more

Reasonable pricing and they are quick! I am newer to the area, and have tried a couple local cleaners that seem really expensive and didn't do the greatest job. I found May on Yelp, and they did not disappoint! They did alterations on a few pieces, and cleaned a bunch of clothes. They did an excellent job on both and were ready in two days! They are completely out of my way (live on the border of Oakland/San Leandro), but I will always make the extra trek there. I took 6 wool sweaters and 2 blouses to be cleaned here any my total bill was only $31. I haven't found prices on dry cleaning this good since I lived in a sketchy neighborhood of Chicago. They also got my garments back to me one day sooner than my boyfriend's cleaning (he took his to George's) - so kudos for the quick turnaround! All of my garments came back smelling and looking great, and they did not have any strange chemical odor. The only problem was that one of the thick buttons on one sweater was broken in half. A quick Google search told me that thick buttons can break during pressing and that some cleaners will not even accept garments with thick buttons. This seems to be a common problem. Luckily, I know how to replace buttons myself and the dry cleaning is so inexpensive that I will definitely be back anyway (sans thick-buttoned garments next time)! read more

Just pick up my wedding dress from May Cleaners today. Super impress. The lady there was super nice and friendly. I have a pretty complicate dress with 7 layers and a long train- two of the layers are tulle and lace with appliques. May Cleaners finished the job in 2 days and got off of the stained out, even the red stain from the roses. Total cost: $175 plus she gave me great tips on how to preserve my dress. I would give them zero stars if I could. I dropped off a skirt on Thursday. I was really clear that I needed to pick it up Saturday, and they said it would be ready then. I asked if they would be open regular hours, because of the holiday. They said yes. They gave me a ticket that said my skirt would be ready at 4:30 today. I got there at 4:40 today. They were closed. They are awesome. Seriously, the best. I have been using them for years. Van and Vanessa are so nice. I brought my wedding dress in a couple weeks ago...I hadn't noticed but there were champagne stains on the bottom that had been there for 3 years. I wanted to get it dry cleaned so I can try to sell it. It's $55 to dry clean a fancy wedding dress there...cheaper than elsewhere I looked. They weren't sure the stains would come off since they had set 3 years ago. They offered to test the stains for me, for free! So nice. Luckily, the stains came out anyway. Best service ever, plus they now own May Flowers 2 doors down and they're awesome too. Love this duo! read more
