According to family that live in town, there are few Mexican restaurants with an A rating and this is one of them. So after church on Friday we decided to come for lunch. My aunt comes here often and loves their pozole so that's what she ordered. My husband had a chicken burrito and I had two tacos. We were seated immediately. Our drink orders were taken and brought to us quickly. Our server checked on us and refilled our chips and salsa without us even asking. She was awesome! Food was delicious. The menu has so many items to choose from and the prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back again when we're in town. read more

Came by for their daily happy hour (2 pm - 4 pm) on Saturday. So cool that they offer it weekdays and weekends. HH beer offerings include draft and bottled beer. Unfortunately, they did not have their seasonal draft which was a Sierra Nevada IPA. I ordered a Pacifico. The also had lime margaritas on their HH (less than $4). I had them on the rocks and blended. For food, I ordered their Guero Fries. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. Everything I ordered was good and I was very satisfied. She handles business and works hard to make sure her customers are happy. Emily is a win also! She welcomes everyone with a smile and keeps the food and drinks flowing. Was in town unfortunately for another funeral. I remember how good the food was here so I definitely was looking forward to eating at the restaurant. Mayas definitely did not disappoint!! Everything we ordered was amazing. I never go with combo plates so I decided to order a chicken enchilada and a beef taco. I loved it all .My man ordered a wet chili verde burrito. Burrito was a great size and the chili verde was so fireeee. Yum ! My daughter ordered 2 enchiladas. She said it was delicious. And her friend ordered asada tostadas. Asada had a great flavor. The beans and rice was perfect. Had so much flavor! What dessert we all split a fried ice cream ,so damn good. Our waiter and the hostess was very friendly. It was a perfect night. It was Tuesday and I had yet to try tacos at a brick and mortar in Santa Maria. I get coupons in the mail for Maya's Mexican Restaurant and was eager to dine there as I love to support a family-owned, local business. . First off, the service was great. Emily was the most courteous and attentive waitress and definitely kept her head on a swivel as she was the only server on the floor mid afternoon. I came in for happy hour which is everyday 2pm-4pm, but I didn't order anything from the happy hour menu because what I wanted wasn't on there. Maybe my expectations were high in comparison to tacos in Los Angeles and San Diego, but the food here was OK. I can't rave about it, but it wasn't bad either. . I got two (2) soft chicken tacos which only come with cheese and lettuce. I requested no cheese and to add cilantro and onion as well as that's what I thought all tacos were donned with in Southern California. Boy, was I wrong. Emily is sharp and gave me a plastic ramekin of the requested toppings as they charge extra for that. I also got chips and salsa, which were $3 versus being complimentary in most Mexican restaurants. To my liking and good for sinus clearing, the salsa is medium, not mild. Therefore, be mindful if you can't stand the heat. My nose started to run from the spice level, but the masochist in me was entralled. . Wish I could say the same about my food. There were only two other parties totaling five (5) patrons present, including myself. The kitchen took close to 20 minutes to make two tacos. I did notice they were several other staff prepping for a catering order so the cooking for said event probably took priority above my two tacos. The chicken was grilled well, but barely seasoned and a little dry. They also served it with lemon (which I love for my water), but I had to specifically request a lime. When I got the bill, I noticed Emily did not charge me for the chips and salsa probably because my food took longer than usual, I tipped her on what would have been the total with it included. I ate all I ordered because I was hungry, but I've had better authentic Mexican food especially tacos, elsewhere and for less money too. . In comparison to other reviews, this place seems to be hit or miss. And it's small choices like no limes served with tacos, charging extra for standard toppings, etc... that make it so. . To end on a good note, an everyday happy hour definitely makes this place stand out. They also have really cute Mexican decor and artwork. Waited 30 min for a table for breakfast, was at with no menus for 20 min until we reminded someone we still needed them, offered chips and then charged $3 for the basket (we didn't have menu so didn't know it was a charge for them) took another 20 min to get a second cup of coffee brought for our party of 2. Food was ok but definitely not good enough for the $70 price tag for 2 breakfasts, 2 cups of coffee and a basket of chips. Recently revisited the maya after quite some time and it was as good as ever. The menudo was delicious, and the Spanish omelette had such great flavor! We had not been to the Maya restaurant for longer than we realized but were happy that we revisited them. A small change that occurred during Covid, they ask you to enter from the street side versus from the parking lot. Not a big deal, it's actually a little less confusing as I always felt I entering through the back door but just good to know. We were warmly greeted by the hostess. Our waitress was excellent, very friendly and informative; it seems like she actually enjoys working there. I tried their flautas plate while my husband opted for their tostada plate, and our son had their enchilada/chile relleno combo. We started with their chips and salsa, the salsa was a little on the spicy side, but then I am kind of wimpy. For my flautas plate, I chose one chicken and one beef flauta. I loved the crispiness of the flautas. The rice and beans were very good. And as you can see from the empty plate, I enjoyed my meal. read more

I really wanted to like this place. We went there specifically because they have whole beans prepared without animal fat (which works for my husband, who does not eat meat). When we sat down, they quickly brought tortilla chips and salsa. I was not able to eat the salsa because it was so spicy. I asked if they had any milder salsa and the server said she would bring me some, but it never arrived. Some time after we placed our orders, requesting whole beans, the server came over and told us that they were out of whole beans, not offering any alternative except the animal fat beans. We waited and waited for our food. People who came in after we did we're getting served. We told the server we'd been there half an hour and asked about our food order. She replied, "He's making it," turned on her heel, walked away, and disappeared for a while. Eventually, we located her and asked to have our food packed up for takeout since at that point, we would not have time to eat it at the restaurant. We are generally easy to please, and we understand that there can be glitches at a restaurant. However, there was never a single apology for any of the things that went wrong on this visit. A simple apology would have gone a long way. We're usually good tippers, but not this time. And we won't come back. read more

We came from Pismo Beach and we usually stop off the 101 at a taco truck we love, but they weren't there. We googled somewhere and found this spot and gave it a try. We asked to sit outside so we can keep an eye on our truck because our two dogs were inside, and the host said "Sure, bring the dogs too!" We were shocked. It's hard to find dog friendly places nowadays. So when we came back with the dogs, the hist even brought out two bowls of water, and two bowls of plain shredded chicken to feed them. This is by far the most welcoming experience we've had out with our dogs, and the food we ordered was awesome. The inside was full of people and a band playing, and we were still served quickly. I needed my menudo fix and decided to check out the Maya. I'd been there before but never had their menudo. I'm glad I came back and tried it. Beautiful spot for lunch on a rainy afternoon. Decor is so fun and bright-love it! Friendly, service with a smile & lots of attention even during the "rush". I ordered the Grilled Fish Salad, quite a delicious feast. My fish was cooked perfectly; crispy outside and tender on the inside. Plenty of avocado and fresh tomato slices too. My husband ordered the Pozole. A delicious broth, not too spicy and with a generous portion of pork & hominy. It's a noisy place with music and conversations but in a good way for us. The Establishment was clean and servers were conscientious about their appearance. Bathroom was neat & clean. Plenty of parking and I think outdoor seating with warmer weather. I've been there twice on Fridays and both times the service is awful. Sat at a two-chair table and there was only one place setting. We let the waitress know and she took mine and gave it to my friend and left, so I got up and took one from another table. Yesterday's experience was even worse food wise and service. I asked what was in a Spanish omelette she said omelette is made out of eggs. I mentioned that I'm aware, yet what else was in it and she said she didn't know. We asked if she could ask the chef and she didn't want to do it, so we ordered and asked her to please check for us so when we go back we would no--she never did. The food was equally awful. I took two bites; I left the rest $20 gone. Needless to say we did not leave a tip.. i'm aware that we have some off days yet twice with the same person. I don't think it's a coincidence. I went and the girl named Andrea that "helped" was giving attitude when telling her the issue. We ate at Maya last night. It was a Friday. We had a great time. The ambiance was very festive. The service was very attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the Friday night mariachi band! There was a delightful interaction between the band, the staff and the restaurant patrons. People were singing along with the band! My family enjoyed the food we ordered. It was tasty and presented on bright cheerful plates. Chips and salsa were not included. We would come back again on a mariachi Friday and would recommend to friends. read more

Note that this is for the food truck. Let me start off with the positives. I'm assuming the owners operate the truck, it was a couple and their son and they were all super friendly and helpful. The truck design is awesome and stands out. Everything looked clean. Slight issue here is the son is helping in the kitchen but does not wear a mask and the woman, see picture of truck, also didn't have a mask on at times. The food itself was highly disappointing. More so because the pricing is premium for average or below average food. Not sure if it's higher because of the pandemic but a lot of Mexican restaurants have kept their pricing the same and produce higher quality food. Took about 25 minutes to get our food as well. 3 tacos- the asada was fine, meat cooked fine and just an ordinary taco. The carnitas taco was very bland. The meat was cooked well and it was tender but there was nothing, not even salt on it. The salsa helped a little but there was seasoning missing throughout. The chicken taco really confused me. They make this one almost Taco Bell style with cut up lettuce and shredded cheese? Over all taste was just off and wish it had stayed simple like a classic street taco, meat, salsa and cilantro and onions. For the price you're paying you want something way more flavorful and these just didn't work. Last thing is they drench the tortillas in oil. I know it's a technique to soften them but they were drenched. Naughty nachos- this was probably my biggest surprise. It looked like a fast food chain made these. Lot of chips on the bottom, hardly any meat, blob of sour cream, blob of guac and nacho cheese? Just didn't look great, there was hardly any meat and just was bad, again, especially at the prices they're charging. None of the ingredients felt fresh and overall taste just wasn't there. My wife had the coconut shrimp and fries and she loved them, this the 3 stars instead of 2. I love trying out the trucks that go by naughty oak but won't be checking this one out again. read more

It took a minute to find this place, but I'm glad we did. I had the chilaquiles, served absolutely piping hot and delicious. My husband had the Pigs in a Blanket and said his meal was also very tasty. Neither of us could finish our meals! And the coffee! Spiced with cinnamon and SO good. My only complaints are the prices; a little high for Mexican food IMO, and my husband's food was served about 5 minutes before mine arrived. read more

We stopped on our way back from a road trip to Monterey. It was the only restaurant that we found offering dine-in options. The restaurant and facilities were very clean. All of the staff was very nice. The food was delicious, I had the best camarones a la diabla that I have ever had. They added their own twist to it by adding bacon to the already delicious dish, it was wow. I'm so glad we found this restaurant. I definitely recommend this place! read more
