Met a friend here for pre-dinner and drinks. It was our first time. The inside was a lot smaller than I thought. They had several options on the menu. Somewhat on the pricier side. Plenty of drinks and cocktails too. My friend ordered a lavender cocktail and she said it was pretty strong. I ordered the candy cocktail and it came with a Mexican lollipop. I saw this restaurant by accident as I was parking to go to my favorite restaurant in Davis. It was a few weeks ago, and it was pretty new. I tried the Chili Verde plate. It was great! So flavorful! So a week or two weeks later, I tried the Chili Colorado plate. So delicious! Today, I tried the El Pastor plate. Another winner! Then I tried the Choralata (sp?) It was a hot chocolate drink, think "hot chocolate horchata". So good! Ok, I love this place. And it has great, friendly service as well. We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, glad we came but disappointed at the same time. Here's why; food was delicious and worth the penny, however the food we ordered-- elote esquite ramen-- was missing the ramen so i took it back and explained to the cashier that it's not what we ordered. She seemed confused so she looked it up on her register, she apologized and asked the cook to make it, no problem, here is where i was disappointed - The cook came to our table and said next time we come to not order the elote esquite ramen because no one really orders that and its not even on the menu (when clearly it was or it wouldn't have been ordered) he then proceeds to tell us that the menu is huge and that we could have picked anything else on the menu. I smiled at him and said okay thanks, because what was i supposed to do? Who does that and what kind of customer service is that? I will never go back again. So yummy!! The food was excellent and made fresh to order. The enchiladas were great and the tacos were substantial portions, definitely great value for money. Ambiance was amazing! Inside was decorated well, and they used high quality plates and glassware. They even have fun glassware and rotating cocktails. Service was quick, and employees were so nice! First time here. Very nice menu - unique dishes. They have five different intricate soups. I enjoyed the shrimp and veggie soup. Lots of delicious broth - they put two whole big shrimp with shells and tails, many medium sized shrimp - shelled. Broth is spicy but very mildly. While the food is good, there are many problems with the service and cleanliness of the establishment. While waiting to place our order, we saw a waitress wiping broken chips and used napkins off the ground with her bare hands. While ordering, my partner saw a waitress in the back restocking the chips section with her bare hands. When we ordered, the woman taking our order did not crack a smile and was very blunt and looked disinterested. It was very off-putting and I thought maybe she was having just a bad day. We sat down and the waitress brought our margaritas out but her hands looked unclean (some sticky looking liquid on them) and she was touching the rims of our glasses where the salt was. We didn't drink from the glass but instead used straws after seeing that. Lastly, my partner's food came out and mine NEVER came. I asked twice for it to be checked on and we were never followed up with. 20-30 minutes later we finished our margaritas and my partner ate his meal, and I asked for a refund for my food that never came. The server looked unhappy that I asked for a refund and was not apologetic, and was extremely short with me. I felt uncomfortable. We wanted so bad to like this place but we cannot get past the poor service experience and uncleanliness. Will not be returning. read more

We discovered this restaurant during our trips to Davis this summer but we didn't actually go eat here until the last trip in mid-September. It's in Old Town Davis and it's a quaint little town. I ordered the chilaquiles with carne asada and it was very delicious. The meat was well seasoned and the rice and beans were very good. You can get tortilla chips (self-serve) with whatever type of salsa you like or pico de gallo. The place is well decorated and there are plenty of tables. The cashier that helped us was friendly and helped us decide by telling us what some of the plates included in the meal. We'll definite be going back to eat here in future visits. read more

We stopped in to try another Mexican spot in Davis. The menu was quite large with tons of options. I was pretty impressed ! I judge a place by their meat offerings... if they have lengua or cabeza, I would say they're already ahead in my book! We got two wet burritos, both of which were delicious, a kids quesadilla which was quite large, and 4 street tacos. All of the tacos were delicious, but the cabeza was the best I've ever had. The staff were friendly, especially since we were there with kids, and we appreciated the self service chips and salsa. We will definitely be back! read more

Wowzerz! I've been in Davis for 15 years and have had ALL the tacos at all the taquerias in town. IMO Tres is the best, but the shredded chicken tacos are to die for here!! Be sure to check your bill before paying. Food is solid, pricing is a little too much for a small town, but the true issue is with the service. We ordered a two-taco plate and separately six tacos (4 al pastor, 1 fish, 1 shrimp) and a horchata for dining at the restaurant (not to go). The cashier ran us up for a grand total of $65, lol. I pointed out this wasn't correct. "Yeah, it is." "No, it isn't." "The shrimp and fish tacos are more." "Yeah but the subtotal should be more like $50 not $65." "...uh... let me... check... uh... that's so weird it's doing something with the tacos... and charging the up charge for all six... uh.... Sorry about that." Lo and behold the subtotal ended up being $49 and change. Casually asking for 30% more on a bill and not catching your mistake a few times is truly an accomplishment. Take a bow, guys. Though he seemed somewhat apologetic I wondered how often this could have popped up if the cashier was initially convinced he was correct, denying the overcharge twice. The hilarious point for me was the mistake wasn't just $5 per taco ($3.50 plus 1.50 for shrimp/fish), but seemed to be $6.50 times six. To boot the pricing here is absurd for a small town and not in line with their food truck pricing (I'm well aware of the cost of doing business business but $5 for a taco is a bit much). Charging SF prices in Davis is wild. The service as a whole seemed a bit all over the place. Nevermind the guy seemed smug about the whole thing, but we ordered our food.. we were handed a number sign for a table.. despite that the cashier packaged our food came in plastic bags and boxes and took our number. Maya's just opened recently and I just can't stop eating the quesaburria tacos. The rest of the menu looks great and maybe I will try some other items soon. The service is also exceptional.
