We stopped at the cafe for coffee and pie... the coffee is regular drip and we watched Andy Griffith show while waiting for Sugar Cream pie (frozen version) which was served with whipped cream and sprinkled with sugar. Strange offering in my opinion. We make our Wicks pie at home better. I had Blackberry Cobbler ala mode and it was excellent. Served in a bowl with lots of fruit and a hearty shortbread crust. I had no idea this place existed. My sister told me about it and I had to take my wife there for a "special" lunch. She always loved the show especially Aunt Bea. She loved the place, read all of the framed articles on the wall, looked at all of the signed pictures of cast members, and caught some of the show that was actually playing inside the café. There was wall paper on the walls, tables and chairs as well as booths to sit in. Aunt Bea would have been proud. Then we got down to ordering lunch. She ordered the Fish and Chips. They arrived piping hot, with 4 filets of cod, an overflowing bowl of coleslaw, and lots of French fries. The coleslaw was creamy and slightly sweet, just the way she likes it. The cod was fried with a batter type coating, nice and crunchy. The French fries also seemed to be battered slightly which she didn't care for but she helped herself to some of the onion rings that I ordered. I got the catfish which came with two filets, and two sides (I choose onion rings and potato salad). It was the best potato salad I've have ever had in a restaurant. Even though we were full, we had to try a dessert. We opted for the chocolate cream pie and we actually cleaned the plate, it was so good. The chocolate cream was more of a milk chocolate than dark chocolate, and came with plenty of extra whipped cream. I noticed that they have a breakfast buffet and also a salad bar. We want to try the breakfast bar next visit. Anyone who wants to have a nice lunch and remembers the good old days should give this café a try. We were in the area for the gem show and stopped by the Mayberry Cafe for lunch. We found the restaurant to be larger than expected and very well maintained. There was parking on the street in front as well as around back on the street. Lunch was delicious and very filling. Everything had great flavor and was "on point." I tried the chili cheese dog which had a sweet chili served with a beef dog. It was a great combo and the onion rings on the side were some of the best I've ever eaten. My family also loved their meals of chicken wrap (a very hearty filling) and pork tenderloin sandwich. Love the downtown Danville location. Outdoor area was perfect for the kids, our fur baby and myself. The waitress was thoughtful, she brought Milo a water bowl, and was very attentive to the kids and I. I had the Aunt Bee's boneless fried chicken which was delicious. The mashed potatoes and gravy (white) was so good. Allie had the pulled pork sandwich- so yummy. No fatty pieces of pork to be found. Mark had a steak and it was cooked perfectly, and was seasoned very well. One thing to note, while we got there right at 11am, and I wanted breakfast, they do not serve breakfast. Found this place in a google search coming back from a bachelorette party weekend. Such a cute place! You can find it in Danville Indiana on one of the more busy streets across from the bicentennial buffalo. You walk in to what appears to be Andy griffins house, so quaint and old American styled. The service is prompt and friendly! The food is all old styled, old fashioned Americana dishes. A friend got some delicious looking fried chicken and the rest of us partook in the breakfast buffet. It was simple classic, tasty food and with a buffet you can't go wrong. All of the choices to be had, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, fruit, yogurt. I think it's good to get back to basics every once and a while and I didn't leave this cute place hungry. Will be back to eat again! read more

I really like this little town and this little cafe. It's a Andy Griffith show tribute cafe and very enjoyable, you feel like you've gone back in time. Middle of noon, sunshine in a small town you'd think it was the perfect day. BUT... the reason for the mid review is because we waited for food for 30+ minutes and if we asked for a drink or a toast, it took an additional 20 minutes just to get that. The meatloaf was bland and looked like it was microwaved. Got a BLT asked for no Mayo and got a ton of Mayo. Asked for new bread and they took their sweet time. I feel bad for the waitress, as she told us the kitchen weren't listening or answering anything. If the cooks don't want to work there, then quit. You can't toast a bread in 2-5 minutes? What are you cooking food for if you hate your job. We were in the cafe for a total of 1 hour and 25 minutes, we had a small order so what ate up most of our time was waiting for the food, extra bread and a water. Check came fast though. If you love the shows that this restaurant pays tribute to, it's a pretty cool spot. If you're like 80 years old and you want to not experience much flavor in your food, you'll also like it. Definitely wanted to try this quaint restaurant. Walked in and it wasn't that busy but the hostess made it seemed like it was to find us a table in the nearly empty restaurant. Our waitress greeted us right away. The menu had a lot of great choices . We started off with the cheese curds . They were really tasty . I got the chicken wrap with onion rings which was very good. My boyfriend got the spinach salad with additional steak . He enjoyed it . Desserts looked fabulous but we were too full to partake. The televisions were running the Andy Griffith show continuously. Lots of Photos from the show to look at around the restaurant except some you had to be in front of another patrons table . The wallpaper and non Mayberry artwork was very faded and dated . I RARELY have reason to go to Danville, IN, although it's a quaint little town east of Avon. I came out here to purchase some used tree gatorbags and decided to stop by the Mayberry Cafe (which I've known about for YEARS and driven past several times, but never had the opportunity to stop at). TODAY IS MY DAY!!! Although they didn't have their Barney Fife squad car parked in front (due, I think I read somewhere, to someone running their vehicle into it while fleeing from law enforcement years ago) it still is great to be here! I ordered the Opie's Prize Catch Blue Gill with a side of green beans and cinnamon apples! I haven't had blue gill since I used to fish for them as a kid many, many, moons ago! The fish is caught fresh from Myer's Lake! DELICIOUS!!! They play episodes of The Andy Griffith show, back to back, all day long! The restaurant is very, very, clean and they practice social distancing. A great traditional hometown feeling with extremely friendly and professional staff! It's a great atmosphere here and I will definitely bring my family here in the future... if COVID-19 doesn't have a say in it! Being a fan and hearing about this place we had to try it out. The drive was a pain as there was another event going on causing some traffic. We got in and seating appeared to be swamped. We decided to sit anywhere. They sat us outside. It was a super sunny day and we had a table with no shade. It was not the most comfortable idea they had. Our server was overwhelmed. Took forever. We ordered Aunt Bee fried chicken and BLT. They were good but just standard flavors. We wanted to try dessert but the service was taking entirely too long so we decided maybe another time. Super friendly customer service and wait staff. Seated promptly in a booth surrounded by Mayberry memorabilia and TV's airing the show. Mayberry T- shirts on sale at front counter for $20-$25. Food was simple as down home selection. Fries chicken was hot and crispy. Barney burger was of food proportion. Aunt Bee's chicken breast was boneless and fried in same batter as bone-in chicken. Fries had good flavor. Fried biscuits with apple butter were delicious as was blackberry cobbler. Mashed potatoes were good but gravy was salty as was chicken breading. Ambience was great though I was disappointed the theme didn't carry into bathroom. Outdoor seating area was lovely. Unfortunately parking is limited to street parking which is a challenge for some. We visited the famous Mayberry Cafe in Danville, Indiana. I had heard good things and we had been wanting to check it out. Sadly, the police, squad car was out for repairs so we did not see it. I was expecting a small diner type place, but wow! You walk into a fun reception area with a couch and fireplace and a staircase so the place has 2 stories! We were taken upstairs to a larger dining room area. The menu is huge with LOTS of choices. We ordered a couple of appetizers.. Jalapeño Cheese Cubes and the Fried biscuits & Apple Butter. Both were delicious There were four of us. I ordered the 3 piece Aunt Bee Fried Chicken with smashed red potatoes and Mac & Cheese, my wife got the boneless chicken breast. The other two ordered the meatloaf and the breaded tenderloin. It was all good as we all cleaned our plates! Somehow we left room for dessert and ordered the Apple Chips with Ice Cream. Yummy! I brought my mother here for lunch, knowing that she had visited before and liked it. What's not to like about anything connected with this iconic TV show, "The Andy Griffith Show". It's on the television every weekend early before the news and late night as well. How many episodes did they make? I don't know, but we watched an episode and a half here at the cafe. They have black and white tv's all over and are all showing the Famous TV series. The food was good, Mom got the cheesy potato soup and it had lots of flavor with chunks of veggies in addition to the potatoes and cheese. Mom also got the baked potato with steamed vegetables and she liked that as well, but most went home with her. It was all I could do to finish 2 fried catfish filets, onion rings and a large portion of creamy Cole slaw. Loved it here and I will bring the family back so they can try, even though my kids have probably never seen the show. read more

Do you ever just want to escape to simpler times with comfort food and nice people? Mayberry Cafe was that escape for me! It has a very cozy, homey feel that makes me look forward to going back again. I had the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. My table also shared the fried dough. The country fried chicken was top notch! Aunt Bea would be proud! The fried dough wasn't anything to write home about, but the apple butter that comes with it is a totally different story. I ended up eating what was left after using it on the fried dough with a spoon. It was delicious! I almost bought a jar when we left, but I knew I'd demolish it in a day-it was that good. We drove from Indianapolis to eat here and the place was pretty easy to find. Parking, which is street parking, was not difficult either. The only thing that links this place to Mayberry is that they have an old police car parked out front and they and playing episodes of the Andy Griffith Show in the lobby. That being said, it is still a unique place, but has kind of a Cracker Barrel feel, minus the aforementioned items. I agree with some of the other yelpers that it seems that the place has a lot of teenagers working there (which is not a bad thing). The food was pretty good and down home. For those baby boomers out there who remember when the Andy Griffith Show was weekly viewing, this restaurant is a fun place to go for home style cooking and a tribute to the show. For everyone else, it's a place you can watch a continuously streaming series of episodes of a small town sheriff who was slow to react, but way ahead on common sense. The walls are covered with photos, the booths are named after characters, and the menu items are tied to the show as well. On my visit, I went with "Aunt Bee's Fried Chicken" which comes with one or two chicken breasts (priced accordingly) that are breaded with a juicy and generous size portion inside. The chicken had been nicely salted. The dish comes with house made mashed potatoes with a peppered white gravy (we called it milk gravy while growing up) and choice of a vegetable. I went with the green beans which were cooked well done (quite soft, but sturdy enough to stay on a fork when speared) and served with little bits of ham. The chicken was great and the sides were really tasty too. I also ordered "Clara's cobbler" (peach) which comes with a couple small scoops of vanilla ice cream. It was served warm and was pretty good, but the bottom crust was a little doughy tasting (under cooked) while the top was lighter and tasted better. The peach filling had nice sized chunks of fruit, but was a bit "one note" in flavor. If you had this at a friend's home, you would probably enjoy it. But at a restaurant that makes lots of cobblers, I would have to say I've had better. The service was very attentive and friendly and kept up with the timing of my courses and bringing the check. If you like home cooking but want to get out of the house, give Mayberry Cafe a visit. Review #423 read more
