Great place that serves home cooking. It's right across from the courthouse. Save room for dessert, since there are plenty of options.

As I work my way through clearing out my parents' longtime home following my father's recent death, I've also been revisiting some old and familiar places along the way. After a brief stop at the house tonight, I decided to stop in and revisit Mayberry Cafe. I have known the owners of the Mayberry for many years, partly because they knew my parents and partly because my path used to cross with one of them. As I don't really live in this area, I don't get here often. However, with my father's death I'm spending more and more time in this area and tonight decided to do a revisit. Mayberry Cafe is, of course, an Andy Griffith-show themed restaurant complete with decor centered around the show and a menu that really celebrates Southern dining. There's a police car off to the side of the building reminiscent of that featured in the show (it used to be out front but kept getting hit). While the owners were not in-house tonight, I really was in the mood for a quality meal and decided this would hit the spot. The visit started off a bit rough as I waited several minutes for service - the person manning the front believed I was with another party (NOTE: I will say this was a bit of a stereotype since there was another wheelchair in that party). It took them leaving and me staying for her to realize I actually needed service. Once that got straightened out, however, things were fine and familiar as I've always enjoyed both food and service here. I was taken to a comfortable table. It's worth noting that there's two floors to this restaurant and there's actually an elevator (the staircase is obvious; the elevator not as much but is available). Parking in this area is either alongside the building or around the courthouse. Parking is free with a 2-hour time limit around the courthouse. For disabled parking, the time limit is 5 hours. This actually is a neat little square, though it's not all accessible. Mayberry itself has a nicely done concrete ramp into the restaurant. My server, Jenn, was super friendly and helpful. She seemed surprised when I asked about the owners (I was secretly hoping they'd be in, though I knew a Sunday evening would make it unlikely). I ordered one of their specials - a 3-piece chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and one veggie for $15.99. I got my usual unsweetened iced tea. This food really is about true southern cooking. It's not glamorous. It's not knock your socks off. It's simply good southern cooking at a fair price. I preferred my mashed potatoes without gravy and that's how I got it. The chicken was delicious. The mashed potatoes were wonderful. I was less fond of the cole slaw I also ordered - I doubt I would order it again. I got my usual iced tea refill. Customers were friendly. Employees were friendly - one, in particular, raved about the job and was excited I knew the owners. She raved about them. This was a rather poignant visit for me coming off my father's death last week and funeral earlier this week. Yet, it felt healing to revisit the place and remember family visits. My parents loved this place and my mother, in particular, loved the owners. These days, I'm going places that make me feel better and that's what happened here. I still don't live close, but this visit really reminded me that Mayberry Cafe is worth going out of the way.

My husband and I went on a lil culinary adventure and we stopped at the Mayberry Cafe for a lil nosh. It's really cute inside and has a lot of lil homages to the TV show. The menu has cute little names after characters. Service was fine.

Very very delicious chicken and more delicious apple pie, I haven't been to this place but it was supposed to give the vibe from the tv show Andy Griffith, I've seen the show and other people that love the show also loves this place. The service was good, there was a hiccup where one of our companions side didn't get to the table until later in the meal but she was apologetic and it was still good. I love that they incorporated the tv show in the menu as well

The mushrooms and mashed potatoes were good. The meatloaf and green beans were decent but I've definitely had better of each of those. The nostalgia of the place makes it worth a stop, though.

I had not been to Mayberry Cafe when I was a kid and took my son recently. I love the charm of the restaurant. The food is hearty comfort food. I had the breaded tenderloin and Mac and cheese and enjoyed it. My son liked his pizza, but his favorite part was the kids meal token. Kids can use their token to get a treat at the "general store" or they can trade it in for ice cream. Our server was very sweet and our wait time wasn't bad at all. I would definitely return.

Let's start with AMAZING! I have always loved a good tenderloin, and have heard many great things about this one for a long time. To put it mildly it did not disappoint! The tenderloin here is big, and delicious. Hands down places it in top 3 I have ever had, probably even best. Seasoning was as close to perfect as I can recall, and the loin was thick, but still tender. We tried a couple of sides as well, and were almost as pleased with them too.

A very cute restaurant theme. All the TV's have Andy Griffith reruns. The food is delicious down home cooking. The peach cobbler is the best! The service was great!

We split a bowl of soup and they kindly served it in separate bowls for us, which I appreciated. The soup of the day was corn chowder and wow, I was surprised how good it was, I do love soups. I'd never tried corn chowder before, but it was creamy, flavorful, and comforting. I ordered the half salad/half sandwich combo. The smoked salmon niçoise salad had a blend of interesting flavors and the dressing paired perfectly with it. For the sandwich, I chose the BLTEA, and unfortunately this was the disappointing part of the meal. The avocado on it was clearly overripe/bad, so dark, mushy, and it gave the sandwich an unpleasant taste. I removed as much as I could, but it still affected the flavor. It was a bummer because this spot usually tastes very fresh. I've had it before and the avocado was fresh, along with the orchard salad which I loved. I would say the orchard salad is my fave. They make their dressings homemade and the dressing for the orchard salad was delicious. The service was still very friendly, and since they were slammed busy, I didn't feel like making a fuss about it. Everything else we had was enjoyable. The inside is small and quaint since it's a house turned restaurant, so it has a cozy but lively ambiance when crowded. One of the best perks here is definitely the made from scratch desserts. I love checking out the dessert case because the staff will happily explain each option and answer questions. There's something oddly satisfying about watching them slice the desserts too. I took a lemon cheesecake to go and absolutely loved it. I've also tried the blackberry wine cake which is a staple and delicious. A seasonal dessert that was really good was the pumpkin pie. You really can't go wrong with home made desserts here.

Today, I spent some time clearing out my father's home and helping my nephew, who'd been staying with him prior to his death, settled in a new residential situation. As I was driving through Danville on the way home, I stopped at the town square and decided to have a late lunch in the area. To be honest, I headed first to Square Burger. However, as a wheelchair user I was dismayed to see a step into their establishment. No go. I wasn't in the mood for Mayberry Cafe despite my love for the place. I looked over and realized this was a great chance to check out The Beehive. The Beehive is just off the square and shares a building with Two Guys Pies. The US 36 entrance is not wheelchair friendly, however, the back entrance has a nice concrete ramp (I did find the sidewalk a bit narrow - I noticed as I entered here that had I desired to visit Two Guys Pies there was a bicycle on the sidewalk that would have easily blocked my access). This is an attractive building. The Beehive has been here a little over 10 years. I'm not sure I'll describe The Beehive accurately - it's sort of a coffeehouse meets breakfast/lunch joint where you can also get fresh, local honey and other frozen goods to take out. They do catering and offer deli sandwiches, beer/wine carryout, a build your own salad menu, local meat and produce, and the aforementioned frozen goods. They also have a small retail area where you can buy honey, t-shirts, and other items. A good amount of their sweets utilize honey instead of sugar. I parked on the square in one of their accessible spots (parking is free, up to 5 hours for accessible parking but only two hours for others). I wheeled around the building - someone was planting plants/flowers and was super friendly and stopped his work to make sure I could get through). They close at 4pm on Saturdays - I arrived about 3ish. I ordered one of their combos that included a 1/2 sandwich, chips, and a drink. They do have unsweetened iced tea, fountain drinks, and a variety of canned/bottled drinks (including Choc-ola!). They also have a ton of coffee/latte type options. I found the prices to be reasonable. This is especially true given these are healthier options (though certainly not everything here qualifies as "healthy."). The employees were friendly. They were quiet, however, service was quite good. I loved the atmosphere. I had zero issues finding a wheelchair friendly table. I could independently reach everything I needed, though I'm sure they'd have assisted if needed. This wasn't a mind-blowing experience. It was simply a really good lunch in a pleasing atmosphere at a fair price. After an emotional experience like clearing out my family home (which isn't yet done), this was a great way to relax and calm the emotions. I enjoyed the sandwich, which is toasted, and they had Miss Vickie's potato chips. I'm not sure why it took me so long to stop here, however, I'd easily return for the simple yet wonderful menu, great drinks, warm atmosphere, and friendly employees.

And then came the drinks. The pistachio latte was a masterpiece of balance and indulgence -- velvety, nutty, and luxuriously smooth, as though a pistachio grove had somehow been distilled into liquid silk. Each sip unfolded like a sonnet. The wildflower latte, meanwhile, was pure poetry in a cup. Delicately floral without being overpowering, it carried an almost ethereal sweetness, like spring itself had been persuaded to dissolve into espresso. It was whimsical, elegant, and astonishingly memorable. The Green Room Cafe has achieved what so many coffee shops aspire to but few truly accomplish: creating not just beverages, but an experience -- one steeped in artistry, comfort, and just the right amount of enchantment. His attentiveness was seamless--never intrusive, never absent--moving with the quiet precision of a well-conducted symphony. His service carried a rare warmth, genuine and unforced, like hospitality passed down through generations rather than rehearsed. Coffee refills arrived like clockwork, plates were cleared with graceful timing, and every interaction was threaded with an ease that made the entire meal feel effortless. George didn't merely serve breakfast; he elevated it, turning pancakes and eggs into supporting characters while he remained the quiet star of the morning. If excellence were a craft, George would be its master artisan. He made the dining room feel less like a restaurant and more like a well-tended haven, where everything runs smoothly because someone truly cares that it does. Hot Cakes is fortunate to have him--because a waiter like George is not common; he is the kind of presence that turns routine meals into rituals worth returning for.
