We had just arrived into town and were starving and we saw this place which was fairly close by. When we were first seated it did not feel very welcoming but towards the end it got better. The place was dark even though it was still light out. The bread tasted tough and chewy, like day old bread. The crab fritters were good filled with crab but the grease was not a pleasant taste. I was disappointed in the scallops which were fairly small in size. I was pleasantly surprised with the special which was the swordfish and cabbage. This is something I would order again, excellent recommendation from our waitress.

The infamous scallops

Mayers boils down to being a pretty great place. It's nestled in the land of the same old same old everywhere you turn, the land of broiled to hell seafood and pizza. Mayers brings a big city dive vibe combined with culinary creativity. Though after about 6 trips here in the summer of '24, the allure started to dwindle, as the menu remained stagnant and lacking of creativity. The specials were great until they recycled the same few ingredients a bunch of different ways- hinging heavily on tomatoes, cucumbers, chicken thighs and the occasional swordfish appearance. All pretty pricey to boot. $14+ for 3-4 bite small plates. I recall a social media post where they admitted to lacking seafood, yet they never really did anything about it. Again, swordfish at $40 done 2-3 different ways isn't saying much. $22 oysters, $29 scallops became underwhelming after 3 months. The staff is helpful when you manage to get someone's attention, though that "hipster too cool for school" vibe remained during every trip. It's like the bar is their catwalk and you're just there to observe them. Not very warming or "tavern on the bay"-esque. All in all, one of better spots at the shore.

A bit of a dive bar with live music, but pretty good food. Small inside dining area with dining at the bar and outside patio dining as well. We chose to sit inside, Service was fine, but not very enthusiastic at all. We started with drinks and the crab fritters. The fritters were pretty good but the sauce really made the difference. I highly recommend the cold front cocktail. It was excellent. My wife had the hibiscus, but didn't care for it much. It's a very limited entrée menu. We both have the fried scallops which come with delicious french fries, and coleslaw. While very fresh, the coleslaw is very vinegary and wasn't our favorite. The fried scallops, are kind of unique in that they had very little breading if any. Very good flavor and comes with your choice of cocktail, tartar, or remoulade sauce.

Whole fish special.

Great atmosphere. Ambiance is perfect especially during sunset. Drink menu was creative and fresh. Fresh whole fish special was cooked perfectly. Scallops are always a hit. Burger was cooked to perfection. Seafood tower and calamari appetizers were a great start. Small menu has been unchanged in a long time but why fix what isn't broken? Check out the live music schedule to catch some local talent.

I must eat here when I am in the areas. It's just how it is. We stopped in early on Wednesday for dinner. I normally get the scallops although this time we decided to get a bunch of picky food and drinks. The cucumber mule is the perfect summer drink. So good! We enjoyed the pimento cheese, fried calamari, cold pick and peel shrimp, clams and crab fritters. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was awesome, as usual. It's a staple in my summer when I am down here because it is consistent. Great service and good every single time.

Service was wonderful, the restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. The clam appetizer was our favorite item, but everything was delicious! The appetizers are definitely large enough to share. Cocktails were also great and refreshing. A lovely view of the bay and sunset as well.

Amazing Oysters!

This place was lively and packed considering it was off season still. The service was seamless with the nicest hostess and friendliest staff. The menu is small but offers enough of a selection (nothing healthy though) that you won't be left hungry. The oysters by far were our favorite. They were fresh and ridiculously large. The mussels were equally fresh and large but none of us were fans of the beer broth. The rest of the food was good: fried scallops, mac & cheese, and fried calamari. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations. I suggest coming on the early side, put your name down and grab a drink at the bar.

He had his hands full with several tables but handled everything really well. The food and drinks were terrific. My only criticism would be the cheese dip didn't have much flavor. Expect a long wait, but they are accommodating. After your table is called, they hold it for 15 minutes, which I very much appreciate--that gives you more than enough time to walk to the nearby shops or beach. The ambiance is nice, the tables are spacious, and the bar is long and open. I thought the tacos were alright but expensive and not too flavorful. I did really appreciate the wide selection of local fresh-caught fish, though, and could recommend going here for that reason. The appetizers are pretty standard, and I don't have much to say about them. I just wish there was more flavor in general. Additionally, the cocktails were extremely weak. I'm surprised they even needed to ID. Even people I know who are very lightweight commented on how light the alcohol was. I really liked the flavor and balance of the syrups, but a $15+ cocktail should highlight the liquor. The DJ was not good the night I went, but I'm not sure if that's a consistent issue or just a one-time thing. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back. I just genuinely think the other restaurant selection in Cape May is good enough that I wouldn't spend a meal here during a limited trip.

They were generous sizes with plenty to take home. Service was fast. We were quickly seated with a choice of where to sit. Water came without asking. Our order came quickly. Tori, our waitress, came many time to check on us. To top it off the manger, Alex, made his rounds to ensure all was going well. He also filled us in on the history of the place. Talking with Alex made us feel like family. Location was superb. We were sitting two feet away from the sand dunes looking out over the beach frontage of the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware River. The building has open air doors which makes feel like you are sitting outside. That location has a sunken concrete ship from WWII in the water. As Alex explained as part of history this is a landmark that attracts many. We could the scores of birds on the partially submerged ship. Great place and we be back next time I visit Cape May!!

A friend recommended this location because it was on the water and supposedly had great views. Well, she was not wrong! We planned to enjoy dinner there at sunset, and it was absolutely stunning. You can even see a shipwreck in the water from the restaurant. The food was delicious and the outdoor bar overlooking the water was definitely popular! It was packed. I recall having a refreshing, bubbly, berry libation. So tasty and beautifully decorated with fruit and a pearl skewer on top. My only constructive criticism is that this place is very busy and the wait time can be quite long. You may consider sending one person from your party there a bit earlier to wait for a table, because it can be up to an hour wait during peak times. (Not a spot to head to if you are very hungry and need to eat ASAP!) Aside from having to wait about 45 minutes to be seated, this place is a gem. Would definitely come back for the relaxing, beach ambiance.

I ordered the harvest salad with candied walnuts. I have no idea what candied walnuts are, so I wish the waiter asked if I had any allergies because they can SOMETIMES contain cinnamon in it and I am allergic to cinnamon. When the salad came out I started to eat the salad and noticed my throat starting to feel funny. I didn't mix the salad well so I just ate the arugula with the sauce and the chicken. Half way through I noticed there were walnuts and I took a bite of it and my throat immediately started to swell and I can feel my face and tongue getting itchy. Thank god I have my allergy medications on me, but what if the next person this happens to doesn't... We immediately told the server about my cinnamon allergy and the waiter looked at me like I was joking because I ate half of it and then asked me "So you're done with that?" and I said, "Yes I can't eat it anymore, I'm allergic to it and it's contaminated with everything else. I felt my throat starting to close up, but I am okay because I have my allergy medicine. " He asked if I wanted anything else and I said no just a hot tea to help with inflammation. I appreciate that the server was trying to help us out, but he still came back with the bill and said the owner is still going to charge me because it says candied walnuts on the menu, implying that it's my fault...I really expected this place to have better service, but looking at past reviews I can see how this place has overpriced underrated food and terrible service. They don't care about their customers and certainly just focused on making money. Hopefully after today they include that their candied walnuts have cinnamon in it! Or at the very least ask the customers if they have any allergies beforehand
