Nice location and food is great! Mayflower always delivered with tasty food and authentic flavors.

I often rave about how good food tastes or how well the presentation is. Mayflower got all these down. In addition, they have the service to match as well. I was thoroughly impressed with their high service standards. We went to Mayflower for dim sum. The eating ritual involves drinking lots of tea. That in turn requires tea pots being refilled periodically. A typical experience would be something like tea pot goes empty, look around for a waiter passing by and flagging them down. They would disappear with your empty tea pot and come back some time later with a pot of hot tea. The cycle continues throughout the meal. At Mayflower, however, the experience does something like... the tea pot is never empty. Wait. How did that happen? The answer is the waiter keeps an eye on your tea pot and refill them periodically before they run dry. They do it in such an unobtrusive way that you don't even notice them unless you pay close attention. I have been spoiled. You should come and experience that yourself as well if you haven't already done so. Five star all the way! read more

I enjoyed having dim sum at Mayflower. We didn't have to wait too long to be seated for Sunday lunch and when we were seated the dim sum service was fast. Service was also friendlier than more dim sum places. We ordered a few dishes: potstickers, beef rice roll, egg custard tarts, and pork dumplings.All were very good and not too greasy at all. Prices are reasonable, most dim sum dishes range from $2.60-$6. There is plenty of variety here also which I liked. Would definitely return in the future for dim sum! I used to think this is a really good chinese restaurant. After today visit, i am changing my mind. We are 5 of us, arrives around 1:15pm. There is not much dimsum cart running around the restaurant. Dimsum lady they are standing in the corner with the dimsum cart, and play with phone and chatting with other dimsum lady and waitress. Food Most of the food is DRY. Regular Fried Rice - they are mixing chinese rice and other tiny rice. (The size is half of Chinese rice or less) Singapore fried noddles - it was super spicy. Waiter and manager were saying if we need less spicy we need to mention during the order. (We got black face for sure) Tea - This is the only positive. The tea quality is good. At least you can taste of Chinese tea.. Staff Black face as usual. Rude is expected. When we asked waiter to help us lower the level of spicy on the Singapore Fried noodles. She bring the whole dish to the front inform her manager. (Our table was at end of the restaurant) Then her manager brought back the dish from the front to our tables says we need to tell if we cant take the spicy of the dish. But end up they make us new one with less spicy. All those experience in above, it is not the reason make me write this review. Here is the reason i want to spread out to everyone. Bill We have 5 ppls, 2 dishes, around 6 dimsum. The bill is become $84.xx They billed us 6 ppls of tea $1.30 Total of 8 dimsum 2 of the dishes. Plus 15% tip ON THE BILL already. When she return the credit card recepot for signing. The details of the order was hiding on the left, they put 2 credit card receipt for signing on the right. And the credit card receipt also has "TIP Guidelines" there is 15%, 18% and 20%. We only have 5 ppls 15% of service charge had already applied. There is no sign had listed this is how they charge. If someone dont pay attention what they pay, the restaurant will receive 30% of service changes with their service and food quality. I will not come back. Even those i have to come back, i must investigate the bill in order the pay the them. 06.30.16 update - Thanks for Jenny left me a note. She explained Mayflower wont charge extra on the tip if they included 15% of service charge. Even you had put more than 15%. They will only charge 15% of tip. This place is pretty overpriced for Chinese food and they really just try to give you the least quality ingredients that they can still call food. Some people like it a lot for big parties, but I think they try a little harder because you're paying them more. One of my husband's coworkers recommended Mayflower as one of the best places to get dim sum. I suspect, we may have been happier if 1) It had been a little closer 2)we had come 20 minutes later. We were trying to capture the magic we found with East Ocean in Alameda, but it didn't happen this time. Dim sum we had was very good, but it didn't seem any better than what we could get at the places nearer home (Dublin). Certainly not at the level of East Ocean. One of the issues was that it took some time for the kitchen to ramp up the variety and number of their dishes. We came early because we knew the place would get crowded (and it did quite quickly), but I think our experience would have been much better if we came 20 minutes after the restaurant opened. The restaurant was clearly not ready at 10 AM. It took them a while to start seating people and we had to wait before the carts started coming out. The stuff that started circulating first was pretty standard and rather boring. Only as we were leaving, did I start to see some very interesting and different dumplings on people's tables. Oh well. The prices were good though (better than Dublin) and we left with a very happy 7 year old. We went there yesterday night for dinner. After 40 minutes of eating they haven't brought out our fried sole. I decided to go pay & thought they forgot about it. The owner lady was rude to me and told me they brought it out already. Good thing I took pictures of all the food that we ordered. Then the waiter brought out our fish just as she was asking. It's just rude, how she treats me. It's the kitchen's staff that didn't make it in a timely manner. I knew that and still gave a big tip to our waiter. However I will never eat at this place again, due to the owner lady's attitude and the kitchen staff. The food was okay too. It wasn't anything great. The food here is good. The service here is terrible. Servers are pushy with the items they bring. And host are always pissed off or annoyed. Party of 10 asked for water all around and They gave us only three until we asked for more. We then asked for more napkins and the server pointed to the two we had left on our table and said "napkins like these?" And was irritated that we asked for more. The servers make eye contact with you when you need something but don't bother to ask you unless you literally stop them and command what you need. This used to be one of my favorite Chinese Seafood restaurant in the Milpitas area. Tonight's visit has been one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever had working in this industry. Our fish is under cook and pricy; they forgot to bring us rice until almost half way into the meal. I never got my ice water even after we had requested a few times. I don't think I could ever give a chinese restaurant more than 3 stars for dinner for the sheer fact that the food never impresses me. Some highlights - Fried whole fish - nice sauce. - E-fu noodles - you can't go wrong, very flavorful! - BBQ Pork, Jelly Fish appetizer - good, but typical. We chose this place primarily because it opened earlier than the other options, and one of my dining companions had an 11:00 massage appointment. I know, hard life, right? Not bad, went here for a Chinese wedding. The peking style chicken was the best non-fried chicken I've ever had. The skin was super crisp and even the white meat was tender and flavorful, not dry at all. Would go here again just for that chicken! read more

We love going to Mayflower for weekday dim sum. They've got a good variety of seafood dishes and lots of things that I can't identify. ;) I'm a big fan of their ha gao (steamed shrimp dumplings), the big ol' deep fried shrimp balls, the shrimp rice noodle thing (sense a theme here?) the sesame balls and the weird gooey sweet things filled with a black paste. This place gets crazy busy by noon though, so definitely head out there early. They also charge $1/person for tea, so if no one is going to drink any tea, ask them to not give it to you. EDITED 2/19/07: Came here with a group of 12 for my birthday lunch, with a reservation for 11:45am. The restaurant was packed, but they told us when we arrived that we'd get the next empty large table. After 30 minutes, they set up a large table - and gave it to another group that arrived after us. A few minutes later, they did the same thing again. I was really angry about this. We finally were seated after 45 minutes of waiting. No concession was offered - still got the charge for $12 of tea even though only 2 people had any, and still got the mandatory service charge, though they certainly didn't deserve it. Decent dim sum with no wait as long as you get here by 11:15. That's rare in the south bay. I grew up going to Saigon, Pan Tao (now Newport) and Joy Luck Place. I can't tell you how many hungover Sat or Sun mornings I've had to stand in the bright sunlight just for a family lunch. Pretty sure that's why I'm this oddly patient character now. Still, huge plus in my book when there's ZERO wait. Food is pretty good. All the staples are done right - shiu mai, har gow, xiao long bao, pork buns etc. They even added a few vegetarian versions of har gow made with mushroom or veggies. I'm not vegetarian but I love knowing there's a spot I can take vegetarian friends. Minus one star because carts don't come around enough, and service is spotty. Sometimes we have to wait 10 min before we can spot a waiter, and other times we might have to order dishes twice. The most popular dishes never come around. We always end up ordering off the menu, which is no fun! We want to pick and choose off the carts. Still, come here because there's no wait. Booyah. read more

Dim sum! Was good but price was higher than other restaurants. With around 7-8 dishes, came out to around 35 bucks. Pretty standard dim sum, but definitely good enough to satisfy cravings once in a while. Service was a bit spotty and the carts didn't come around to our table as much as we'd have liked, but the ordering service made up for it. There are around 3-4 tiers of pricing, with A being the lowest priced items at 2 bucks a plate. Wait time was quite a while, around 30 minutes on a weekday lunch. We attended a friend's birthday party here last night and it was a very nice event. It was held in a private room near the restaurant's entrance. The food, several various courses from appetizers, to walnut shrimp, to egg flower soup, to drunken chicken, to chow mien type noodles, to lobster, to whole fish was quite good. The meal ended with Asian cookies and red bean desert. The servers were efficient and quick and everything worked well. Our birthday girl was very pleased with the entire event. read more

Dinner is 5 stars. Our favorites are double boiled soups, sweet and sour fish fillets, black pepper beef, pei par tofu, snow pea sprouts, etc.. However, DO NOT come here for dim sum, even on the weekends. It's not cheap and the quality is really poor. Everything tastes bland and the steamed pork ribs have a foul taste. The attentive waiter asked us what type of tea to put in the teapot, and made sure our teapots were always filled. We ordered too much food that we forgot 1 dish which never arrived. Attended a wedding banquet here. The space is nice and the wedding banquet program went very well. The food wasn't that great, out of the 10 courses, there were maybe 2 standout dishes, the rest were meh. First visit on 02/19/2011. We came here for dimsum. The simsum are pretty authentic and decent here. And luckily our wait time was only 15 minutes. Service is good and price is not bad at all. Overall I am pretty satisfied with this restaurant for dimsum. I came here the 2nd time the day after, which is on 02//21/2011 This time I am a bit disappointed by the dish "Siu Mai", too much meat stuffs in it (which is supposed to be made like this) but somehow the meat quality is not as fresh. Forget the food. The waiters here take rude to the next level. We were the only white woman (me) and black woman (my daughter) in the restaurant on our recent return to my home town of San Jose. The servers pushing the dim sum carts were friendly, but the waiters and the person appearing to be the maitre d' ignored us so blatantly while being kind and attentive to all the other tables that it sent my daughter into depression for the rest of the day. I brushed the lousy service off and just decided I'd never go back. But my daughter explained she cannot ignore it because it is what she deals with daily in her life and she just didn't expect it when we were supposed to be having an enjoyable time on our vacation. Mayflower wait staff earned the title "Jerks of the Year", but replace "Jerks" with a word that begins with "a" and ends in "holes." Literally. They treated us like garbage. Shame on you, Mayflower. Came here for post-thanksgiving dim sum with the fam...Had reservations so we were seated promptly, though in the corner. We had plenty of carts coming though....the ladies were quite insistent with the food. One actually tried to shove a plate onto our table and we had to wave her off frantically. It was almost like they got bonuses for selling all their food as they were so intent on making us eat more... The food itself was very good, albeit a bit too oily. I recomend the fried tofu skin and the veggie dumpling. The siu mai was delicious as well. Everything was not too salty, not too bland....just like I said before, a bit salty. I don't really like the noodles though....the "wet style chow fun" is meh, as was the "chinese olive and sparerib chw fun". Just stick with the dimsum...This is definitely my go-to place for dimsum in Milpitas! read more

I dunno, I thought this place was overpriced and not tastier than other dim sum places that are closer to me. For example, I think Joy Luck Palace in Cupertino Village has tastier mango shrimp. And I think New Port is also reliably tasty and has good bang for buck. When I arrived at 11 on a Saturday, it wasn't too packed yet, so I didn't feel the need to get a number. But the lines soon built up. Ultimately, I waited about 15 minutes for a table for two, and even then, we were seated in a side room with the bar. To give credit where credit is due, they did bring the cars by regularly, so we got a decent selection. But I can't help but feel that they didn't space out the variety well. We had finished our meal and gotten the check when more dishes were brought by that we never saw while we were still eating. Given the fact that it's not that close to where I live and the parking situation is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS in Milpitas Square, I probably won't be back. read more

I've been to mayflower many times, and obviously enjoy their dim sum. But I came here on Sunday at about 1pm, and after this latest experience, I won't be back. This time, while the wait was only 15 minutes and the food was good, except that actually getting food took way too much work! When we first sat down, two carts came by and we got the har gow dumplings, shrimp in tofu skins and shui mai. We were trying to pace ourselves and not fill our entire table in the first five minutes as I'm generally loathe to do, but that was a mistake. Because after those two first carts, and numerous dessert carts, the food became very sparse. When it seemed no more food was coming (or all the carts seemed to be stuck on the other side of the room), we asked a waiter if we should order from the menu. His response? "What do you want?", so we asked if we needed to order from the menu or if more carts would be coming, to which he barked the same thing at us, turned his back and walked away. We did end up getting fish and pork deep fried dumplings, but then we just ended up ordering duck, fried rice and beef from the menu. The food was all fine, don't get me wrong, but the service was plainly rude. To the point where at the end of our meal, they were putting up bigger tables and moving things around and they nearly hit someone in our party while doing this. Instead of apologizing, they told us to move our table out of the way. We refused, as at that point we were just waiting for our waiter to bring our credit card back. The waiter tried to forcibly move our table, with us still sitting down, at which point the card came back, we signed and left. Pretty busy on a weekend even at 2pm. Great selection of dim sum. Service was decent (as with most Chinese restaurants). Since we went pretty late, we had to order our dim sum from the menu, as there were very little pushcarts around left. My favorite dim sum is the 灌汤饺 (dumpling in soup) which takes them about 30min to make, but well worth the wait. Pricing was fair, and for the food quality, well worth it and way better than HK Saigon in Sunnyvale. read more

2.5 stars I've been to Mayflower numerous times because it is my boyfriend's dad's favorite restaurant, and I've mostly been unimpressed. The food is average (qualifier: I come from the 626 area in SoCal); decent but nothing memorable. The service is surprisingly awful for this type of Chinese restaurant. When you walk into the place, it seems like one of those fancier Chinese restaurants due to their large waiting area, fancy room dividers, and expansive dining area with lots of round tables. The employees are in all or nearly all black, with some of them were blazers. Sure it's a noisy dim sum place and rowdy Chinese restaurant, but walking into a place like this, you'd expect a higher standard in terms of service, right? Nah. On multiple occasions, the employee who was setting up the table before we sat down threw the plates and dishes and utensils across the table, knocking things down and not even bothering to set it back up. It takes a while to get people's attention, and even then, they're not really paying any attention. It gets tiring after a while. I would've given this place 3 stars, but I knocked it down because of the price and service. My boyfriend says this place is overpriced and the reason why they can do that is because there are no comparable Chinese restaurants in the nearby vicinity. Employees were just slamming plates and forks and dumping them into a bin when clearing tables which made a really loud and disturbing sound. They would yell at each other from across the room in their language so not sure what's going on. Food was just mediocre. read more

I think I never said this before, but it's time now: Just do yourself a favor and avoid this place. First of all, the service here is absolutely rude and just don't care. You can tell that the people working here seem to hate the restaurant and their job - and they make sure at any time that the customer knows that. Second, the food is just not right. Their hot and sour soup just tastes weird. I am not sure what they put in there, but it just tasted so strange that no one on our table couldn't eat it. The beef dish I ordered was full of salt and you can tell that they add loads of MSG in the food. If you don't taste it while eating, you'll certainly know it once you sit in your car afterwards. It's also common here that random plates of food get dropped at your table and then taken away again 2 minutes later as the waiters notice they placed them wrong. I could go on and on. This place is quite huge and perfect for our party of 15. Get there before noon as the parking spaces fill up quickly. Ordered everything in site. Enjoyed the eggplant with shrimp, Chinese broccoli and peppered shrimp. So disappointed! The Mayflower Restaurant in Dublin is SO tasty, so we were excited to try this one closer to us on the peninsula. Saturday afternoon around 1 pm. The place was still crazy crowded, but we got lucky and got a table for 7 right away, in a small little room (only 3 tables) off the front entry. Food started coming right away and we were starving, so we dug in. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. None of the food had much flavor. It was all very bland and the only remedy was to dip it in soy sauce and hot sauce, which resulted in the entire meal tasting like, well, soy sauce and hot sauce. The fried fish dish we got, seriously tasted like movie theater butter popcorn (weird!), not even a hint of fish, and the chow fun noodle dish we got tasted like old oil. I guess the two Mayflower Restaurants aren't related, or this one just has a lousy chef, because I would NOT recommend every returning to this one for dim sum. read more

Maybe it's the hype that built up with this place but their dim sum is really sub-par. I've had better almost everywhere else. Mayflower has a reputation for being expensive but it's never had a solid reputation for having great tasting food and honestly, it really wasn't that good. I have friends who rate the quality of a dim sum restaurant based on how good they do their chicken feet, this place's chicken feet was one of the most uninspiring I've ever had. That also goes for their radish cake and taro ball. The service was also a disappointment. Although the wait staff was nice, the managerial wait staff sounded more than irritated when we asked them to place orders in for food. Honestly, I don't get the hype of this place at all. Came here for a lunch dim sum. It was packed! We (two of us) were seated immediately despite it being packed. The food took some time to get around, and the food availability was a bit inconsistent. We got quite a few dishes including, turnip cake, shau mai, chicken feet, pork ribs, bbq pork buns, bbq pork wrapped in rice paper, and a few more. I judge a dim sum place on a few specific foods. The first and absolute, is the turnip cake, which failed greatly. It wasn't very hot, and it was too rubbery, like it didn't thaw enough. The second is the chicken feet, which passed with flying colours. Chicken feet at dim sum places are really hit or miss, and this place has it properly seasoned, and steamed long enough. It was flavourful and just right. Everything else was fairly average. Pricing is a bit more on the expensive side. Service was lacking. Whether we wanted refill on tea, or getting the check, or paying the check, everything was slow. They come around when we don't need them, but when we do, they disappear! Disappointing... Finally went there again for take-out dim sum since the close down due to COVID. Quite many people dining outside and there were some tables inside too. Ordered many usual dim sum like BBQ Pork noodle roll, chicken feet, steamed sponge cake... and a plate of fried rice and another plate of noodles. But it's very DISAPPOINTING. They tasted different and worse from their previous pre-COVID time. Also they missed out one of our order, shrimp egg roll and said we would have to wait for long if we still wanted it. Four stars as far as overall restaurant rating among all those I've tried...I enjoy it 90% of the time, I look forward to going and I always get lots of value for my money. The fifth star goes to Mayflower for being the best dim sum restaurant I've ever been to!!! Yes, you won't find friendly, courteous staff eagerly tending to your needs but can you please point me to an authentic Chinese restaurant that does? I see it as part of the deal and feel awkward in a Chinese restaurant where the service mimics that of a cheesy TGI Fridays waitress full of "flare". It's just not how Chinese restaurants work and I've sort of come to accept that. However, over the last 2 years we've been going there, we've made friends with a couple of the servers and we always get what we want and in a fairly timely manner. Many of the items we request come steaming hot straight from the kitchen directly to our table. They definitely value 'regulars' :) What I love most about this place is that they have a wide variety of non fried and even vegetarian options. I love their spinach and chives steamed dumplings! As long as you don't mind shrimp, you can get a ton more half veggie, half shrimp options...their scallop and shrimp dumplings are to die for and my boyfriend devours whole platefuls of the shrimp and chives pan fried dumplings...I could go on listing all their menu items but I recommend you go and check them out yourself!!! read more
