Very disapointed with the service. We were ignored; we waited half an hour to order our food, they forgot our fish, failed to give us our dessert, and waited half hour for our check. Everytime we needed something (water, tea, remove our empty plates, take out containers), we had to get up and look for our server (usually not to be found). They were not that busy, the restaurant was at least three quarters empty (on a Friday night). We argued to remove the gratuity automatically charged on our bill. We are regulars here as their dim sums, steamed fish, chicken dishes, desserts, and soups are prepared well. However I feel that the quality of foods are getting worse like salty custard bun. Today I went there for lunch and found that they have charged every bills compulsory 18% tips which I feel that they are getting greedy and the services there is nothing special as they do not have any assigned waiter or waitresses for your table. Been here a few times mainly with coworkers as they seem to like this place. Personally - an OK Dim Sum place for me. Interior pretty clean and spacious. Service is decent, although they do seem a bit pushy (perhaps to meet quota) to make you take as many dim sum item as possible. They may keep insisting you take 2-3 orders of same item as I tend to notice during the lunch hours. Also, I notice they do not inform in advance the tea will be charged like $1.50 a person. The food is good, but the staff is very rude! They seem to have this "it's not my job!" attitude. I asked for glasses of water for our table from a bus boy, and he pointed me in the direction of another staff member and told me to ask for water from that person. I tried to flag that person down, and he ignored me; so I looked to see where he was obtaining the water from, and served myself! Then, as another staff person who was wearing the same uniform as the other waiters, came by, I handed her an empty tray because our table was getting too crowded with all the other food we had, and she nodded her head telling me, "no, don't give it to me!" and pointed in the direction of the kitchen, saying, "you give it to them!" We have been frequent customers to this restaurant because they used to offer good food and decent service; however, this past visit was so atrocious that I had to write this down to raise an alert to anyone wanting to give this restaurant a try, either for the first time or as returning customers. And I am referring to the Mayflower in Milpitas area specifically It was a company gathering and we decided to go with the 8 people set menu. We got it a couple weeks ago and still remembered how generous that was - the menu includes one giant surf clam for each guest, Peking duck, snow pea sprouts, whole roasted fish and many more. But when we tried to order it this time, the waiter told us that they had run out of surf clam, but asking us if we would be willing to trade it with scallops while gesturing the rough size of the scallops. We knew that scallops are in general smaller than surf clams, but given the good experience in the past, we decided to give it a go But here started the fiasco. First, it turned out that the scallops they used to swapped out the 8 giant steamed surf clams were extremely small, nowhere near as big as what the waiter previously gestured when we ordered it. The overall presentation of the dish also seemed rushly put together and would never make it to a sellable official dish. Second, when we politely expressed our concern and asked if they could offer some remedy, not only 1, but 3 waiters there simply said that there would be nothing they could do and we shouldn't have ordered the set menu if we did not like the scallops they had offered. And they even mentioned that this set menu was already cheap enough that we should not complain at all. The tone they used was not nice, but the worst part is yet to come When the check came, we saw that there was an 18% mandatory service charge there. We raised the concern of the unfair exchange of menu happened earlier, but the waitress simply said the cashier system was automatic and there was no way she could amend that. Feeling frustrated, we headed to the cashier in person, and to our surprises, the staffs there started lashing out on us as if we had forced them to give us food, forgetting that they were the ones willingly brought up the option of potential menu swap. We eventually had to raise our voice along with them to express our frustration and that we would still be willing to pay the original menu price, just not the 18% service charge because we have been treated extremely unprofessionally. It quickly turned into a heated convo before one of the senior staffs came over and started addressing the issue. He first confirmed we were indeed frequent customers and never had any issues with them before, and went ahead to tell the cashier to amend the mandatory service charge to be 15%. Surprisingly, the system previously said to be automatically putting out 18% and unchangeable was then fully adjustable Because it was a company event after all and we did not want to further ruin our day, we decided to end our argument with that 15% charge, instead, which we still still did not think was fair. I understand businesses are struggling under this harsh environment, but bottom line is, customers still need to be treated fairly and professionally. I haven't been there for dinner service for a long time so I can't put in my two cents for that. my family had been to Mayflower primarily for dim sum on both weekdays n weekends ever since they opened years ago in Milpitas Square. it was also cuz they were the biggest Cantonese style restaurant in the area n is the closest to my parents' home. in the beginning (don't worry, not going to write a novel. : )) we really enjoyed their food n service wasn't bad at all. they hired many employees n their dim sum was always tasty n my family had no complaints. however after a couple months, everything started sliding. the food was inconsistent, size got smaller, n was lukewarm. the employees' attitudes were bad n not a smile could b seen. I have no idea what happened. so we stopped going there for awhile. cut to last weekend. we decided to give Mayflower another chance cuz we wanted some dim sum n we could settle for some mediocre ones. surprise! both the food n service were on point that day! was it just us or our experience at Koi Palace opened our eyes to how good Mayflower really is?? we got in after 20 minutes of waiting in the front waiting area. the dishes we all ordered from the carts came to us piping hot with steam. (we were seated around noon.) the servers were actually both helpful, smiled, n more chatty than before. this was a complete turnaround! what a great change for the better. I give them an A-OK. Was here for a wedding reception with around 330 people. 10 course meal plus red bean soup dessert and some cookie type pastries. Quite amazing they were able to fit this many people in this restaurant. The staff was really efficient and definitely had a system as far as getting food onto the table, then followed up by staff who consolidated plates to make more room for upcoming dishes. Also staff sent around to take used plates. My plate had a dried sprout on it the dishwasher missed. Food was pretty good don't get me wrong. However, the sea bass had a blue rubber band on the plate, which was unsanitary and odd at the very least. read more

Given that this is a pretty well known Chinese restaurant in the area and is pretty popular amongst Asians to have their weddings here, the food is pretty OK. However, it is better than most. I've been here many times for weddings, banquets, dim sum, family dinners, and the food is a-ok. We usually have 團年飯 here, which is a special dinner my family has to celebrate the ending of a year and the beginning of a new one. We come here at the end of every year before Chinese New Years as a family. I'm not a huge fan of abalone, but I suppose everyone else in my family loves it here. The food is pretty mediocre ( I'm really critical of Chinese food only because I think homemade Chinese food is always better) Anyway, aside from the food, the service here is pretty good. However, the table and chair were so closed to each other that we got a hard time to navigate through the floor. They just threw the food down on the table when we didn't even finish the previous course. The table was a completely messy by the 5th course of the dinner. The servers worked here look miserable as they hated to serve the wedding. I can understand the noise from the wedding and some people got a little tipsy. But it's a wedding celebration, they got pay to serve the party. They need to look at least pleasant to serve us. We asked for water, for ice, to buy wine, and we had to wait a long time for service. And the bathroom was a mess, I'm surprised that they serve wedding every weekend here and yet the service still inefficient and under staff. The ones i like the most are the shrimp rice rolls (har cheng), sui mi, sticky rice, fried taro balls, and these fried triangle things LOL (ham sui kok). My brother likes the chicken feet (fong zhao). They dont serve xiaolong bao (soup dumplings) on the weekends, but if you do get it, its pretty good. The egg tarts are delicious as well. Huge Dinners/weddings: From what Ive seen, they really try to accommodate your needs for the occasion. They come and sit down and talk to you about it... yadadaad. But food wise, whenever i come here, i never really know the name of what i'm eating.... but the must gets are the lobster yee mien (for longevity), the buddha jumps over wall soup (idk wtf is in it), abalone with bok choy, the appetizer with jellyfish & types of meat. This place is getting really ridiculous. We came here for dinner tonight, after the first dish arrived, we had to wait for closer to 45 minutes for our soup. After the soup, another hour wait for the rest of the food to be served. The quality of the food also plummeted. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant on and off for the last 15 years. I can honestly say that tonight is the worst meal that we have ever had in this restaurant. Both the taste and the presentation of the dishes are substandard and unacceptable. For a brief moment, I thought I was eating food form a Chinese fast food joint similar to Panda express. That is until the bill arrived. The place was bustling with people yet they barely had any food coming around and then only on small trays. They only had buns and mostly sweet treats available at first and it wasn't until almost 45 minutes in that the trays with things like spare ribs and dumplings came out. We tried their pork buns, they are taro buns, roast pork, and other dim sum. The food was okay, pretty standard dim sum fare. We didn't order that much and the bill came to $90 for five people are very pricey for dim sum in my opinion. Typical Chinese restaurant. Anywhere and everywhere, you can find someone who can talk in Cantonese, you can possibly order off menu, or at least you can ask if they offer it. My 2 weeks spring vacation was slowly coming down to an end and I just wanted to savor it. Nothing better than coming to a Chinese restaurant with a good friend. Needless to say, Chinese cuisine anywhere tastes virtually the same, especially when it's as noisy and jam packed as any restaurant you'd find in any major metropolitan city with a significant Asian population. As I venture to cities without such populations, primarily in the Deep South and the Northeast, you don't find the craziness that comes with the crowds and the frantic ambiance, not to mention the noise and having to talk to your peeps above the loudness. The overall experience here at the Mayflower seafood restaurant here in Milpitas was as average as you can possibly get. Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen around these parts. Been there done that. Let's move on. While the food was just what I remember it growing up and now as an adult, I've come to rediscover it as a means for meal options, parties and other life functions, Chinese food has been the same all to me. Different varieties and what not of noodle dishes and seafood dishes to water your mouth, any Chinese restaurant that's worth their mettle will cook just about anything you want, as long as you ask for it in Chinese. Lol The prices here are comparable to other Chinese restaurants I've been too, but being that this is California, prices increase with inflation and you'll see that reflected on the menu. After all, CA has the top gas prices in the nation. Chinese food has always been a mainstay for me growing up. Can stand to love it, but at the end of the day, I do love Texas Barbeque, New York cheese cake, and lobster rolls as much as any other American. Just picky. My friend and I actually got a table nearer to the entrance, it was easier to get in and out without too much trouble. The scene was a little chaotic, especially when you have many female servers carting around many various forms of dim sum you can eat at a moment's notice. I ordered off menu dim sum, as well as a noodle dish to share. The tab came out to be around $35, which is a little high, but it is what it is. The egg noodle dish had always been my favorite Chinese dish, so I try to order it as many times I can. We also had a dish of Choi sum, i think. The food was delicious, but at the same time, I know better and Chinese food will always be the same to me. The taste can be delicious, but it's always familiar and comforting. While that very well be the means to say that it was just an average meal, you can say that. Just average. The service here was decent yet robotic at the same time. The servers and waiters are going around the restaurant taking a lot of people's orders, so I guess you can't blame them for any missing personal service you're expecting to have. Mayflower offers spacious outdoor seating for Sunday Lunch Dim Sum. Due to the *COVID-19 CIRCUMSTANCES* you order the tapas by a la carte. Hopefully when and if things go back to normal, Dim Sum carts will be back! My favorite Dim Sum items were the turnip cakes and flat noodles, with a side of hot sauce and spicy mustard! Although the dining area is large, seating close to 100 people, there are not enough servers to address every table in a timely manner. Order food from the menu and you may think the order is never coming, but eventually it will. Even took 2 waiters to finally get us our waters. Now for the important part, THE FOOD. Scarce on meat in most items where you would expect meat stuffed inside. Quality of the meat is mediocre at best. Definitely a great selection of food, but I've had better tasting dim sum at many other dim sum restaurants. Good to try once, would not suggest to go here on my own accord... It was that one Sunday where it got to 104 degrees outside, and my boyfriend's parents wanted to get dinner somewhere with A/C. So we dropped by Mayflower between 6 to 6:30 and were pleasantly surprised there was no wait. There was some weak A/C blowing, it was stronger in the side rooms, but we weren't seated there. Service at Asian restaurants are notorious for being bad, which can be justified if the food is good, but it's not worth it here. I don't know if the heat got to all the workers, but they were just so slow! The restaurant wasn't even packed or anything, not sure why they were so slow! First the food. It's kinda pricy for what it was. I didn't take any pictures of the food since I was out with family, but the portions were not that big. Also nothing was spectacularly good. The walnut shrimp had a weird glaze on it that wasn't what I was used to, and the tofu in a pot was just okay. The only thing I really enjoyed was the steamed flounder which was around $28. Onto the service: 1. We waited a long time then attempted to wave down several people before someone would actually take our order. 2. We waited so long for the food, I was starting to think they forgot about us. 3. At the end we asked for the check, and maybe 10 minutes later they brought out a dessert soup and nothing else. 4. The people who were seated around us (though they arrived later) had better service than us (got their food faster, got their check before ours, left before us!) 5. After considering just walking out since we didn't seem to exist, we decided to walk up to the counter to pay our bill. TL;DR: Go elsewhere. Very middle of the road Chinese food. Came here for a Chinese Dinner Banquet and they offered the typical dishes - abalone, shark's fin soup, giant fried shrimp ball, fish, lobster, duck, and more... The service was excellent though! They constantly came by to refill our red and white wines. Once our ice and tea ran out they replaced it immediately. I have been coming to Mayflower for dim sum for a long long time and to be fair the quality of their dim sum has diminished only slightly since my first experience. Their service was never a strong suit of theirs(as is the case with most dim sum restaurants) but over the years I have come to expect more from restaurants in general so I find it annoying that dim sum restaurants(including Mayflower) seem to not have evolved their culture of service. My two star rating is primarily based on the fact there are other dim sum joints in the south bay that provide superior tasting dim sum at lower prices(i.e. Hong Kong Saigon in Sunnyvale) with at least equal service levels. Ok so, I was at my friend's wedding banquet, and there was this dish of poultry that I tried. And i was like hrm... texture is a little weird. Someone then bursts out that it is squab. I am like ok squab, must be like Cornish game hen or some variation of it. Then someone interrupts my delusions by letting me know that squab is in fact pigeon. OMG I just ate my first pigeon, unbeknown to myself! And really... it was quite good. Although less good after I realized what it was. I just think chicken is a little more tender. Anyhoo the food here is delicious. The lobster was cooked to green onion and ginger perfection. The cold cuts platter was jellyfish-ilicious. The Peking duck was spot on, crispy skinned. The one major irk I had was that the service was SO very bad. We felt entirely rushed, even though it was a banquet. The staff were blocking the presentation of the slideshow, and then served food right when it began and started pestering us about when they could take away the plates. Eventually they got flustered and if we didn't finish off the plate they would just chuck old plates on top of perfectly good food and take it away. Hey people working here! We wanted some leisure time to enjoy our friend's banquet, not be rushed course after course. And then the rice and noodles came out last, instead of with the meal. The service is what you would expect from any large Chinese restaurant so don't be put off by it. The food is worth putting up with the mediocre service. I come here for both the dim sum and the dinner service. I love all the crab dishes and steamed fish. The seafood is fresh so you get good quality fish, crab, and lobster here. We ordered a few things and the quality was solid as well as having different dishes I haven't seen before. They make their own XO sauce which was dope. They didn't skimp on the amount they give for free either. But the highlight of my SF trip was their almond coated, deep fried milk. Holy Mao, that was perfection. Oil must've been the ideal temperature as it was not oily at all, almonds were golden and toasty. The milk was the ideal chewiness. Usually in China it's either sprinkled in sugar or you dip it in sugar. I've never seen it covered in sliced almonds. Sheer genius. You outdid the motherland which is not an easy task. Rent a car. I used to come here often with my family, and honestly was a big fan. The food was good and the ladies pushing the carts are nice. The girls who call the numbers in front are nice too and try to accommodate guests. But lately the service from the guys in suits, and red jackets have been rude and cleanliness has gone downhill. We've gotten dirty plates and tea cups, and the wrong tea that another table returned, I noticed the waiter tried to pawn it off to our table. The food is ok, but i don't need to track down my waiter and get ignored by others. And I noticed twice them dragging the trash through the front and by the food carts. Our family love coming here for the dim sum. My favorite dish here is the siu mai which a pork dumpling. The chicken is really good too.

This review is for the dinner banquet menu on Chinese New Year. My family made reservations to celebrate Chinese New Year at Mayflower. We were told we had only 2 hours to eat before we were kicked out. We arrived promptly at 5pm, which is the time they open for dinner. We were seated at the very back of the restaurant, since we had a party of 9 people. I noticed we had to wait a while before we got our tea. Since we had to ask for tea a couple of times, I realize the service is going to be pretty bad already. (Minus 1 star). We decided to order the the dinner banquet menu to celebrate Chinese New Year. Course 1 - BBQ combo app - bbq pork, few pieces of roasted duck, and marinated pork slices. I wish they gave us more roasted duck, since most of the pieces was just skin. This dish was ok. Course 2 - Sauteed Beef with pine nuts in crispy nest - There was a decent amount of beef in this dish, and it was tender. The crispy nest was made out of noodles. I wished it was a taro nest, which would have tasted better. The beef was sauteed with bell peppers and celery. This dish was ok. Course 3 - Fried Prawns with Walnuts - This was a huge dish with plenty of prawns. The walnuts was crispy and not too sweet. This was one of the better dishes of the night. Course 4 - Seafood broth with Bamboo. This soup was pretty good, but it could have been warmer. We had to wait at least another 10 minutes before the next few dishes came out. Course 5 - Bak Choy with Mushroom - There was lots of Bak Choy in this dish. Course 6 - Roasted Chicken - The chicken was pretty good and the skin was crispy. Course 7 - Pan Fried Whole Sole fish - When this dish came out, the fish was not even a whole! It was broken up into several chunks which did not even look appetizing. The fish was definitely not fresh, so it tasted horrible. (Minus 1 star) Course 8 - Steam Crab in Garlic Wine Sauce - I noticed there was 2 crabs for this dish. The crab legs were not broken enough, so it was difficult to eat. The crab did not taste fresh and was pretty bad. (Minus 1 star) Course 9 - Yang Chow Fried Rice - This was one of the best dishes of the night! There was lots of shrimp and bbq pork mixed with the fried rice. Course 10 - Red bean dessert Overall, I would not recommend this dinner banquet menu considering a lot of the dishes was not that good.
