Disappointed with our experience with MC Glass after spending about $2,000 on window repairs. Most frustrating was the extensive paint damage they left on our antique windows--something we were never warned about, and they made no effort to repair. They also worked on a stuck garage window with one cracked pane (as noted during the estimate). After 30 minutes of trying to unstick it, they told me two more panes were cracked and needed replacing--without mentioning they'd already been working on it. I asked for a quote before proceeding, but they replaced them anyway. Reviewing our security footage, it's clear they likely cracked the panes during that initial 30 minutes. When I brought this up calmly with the owner, he became defensive and angry, saying he was "insulted" and didn't have time for "fighting." In the end, I offered to split the cost since I couldn't conclusively prove the damage--but overall, the lack of professionalism, communication, and accountability was disappointing. During a quick trip to Evanston, I needed to have two entirely new window screens fabricated for my daughter's recently acquired house. Numerous telephone calls identified lot of places that could repair screens but none were willing to build from scratch to my dimensions. Fortunately, a tip from a hardware store in Evanston connected me with MC Glass on Dempster in Skokie. As soon as I walked into the store, the array of numerous screens in various stages of repair told me I had come to the right place. Not only could Ben make up the screens to my dimension, but he could get them finished in time for me to install them before I was scheduled to fly home. Furthermore, the next day, when I found one screen was slightly too big to fit because I had mismeasured, he was willingly to do a quick modification to the screen at no additional charge. To avoid fit problems like I encountered, I suggest you hire them to come out and measure your screens. It was a pleasure to do business with Ben and his assistant. read more

I am so glad this place is in our neighborhood. I needed 2 table top glasses, and I shopped around for quotes. MC Glass gave me the best price, but I did not write it down. When I called to see if my order was ready, Ben answered the phone and gave me a price I was not sure if it was the original price I was quoted by a different person. It was few dollars extra which I did not mind. As I went to the store with my husband, I was greeted by Ben who was extra friendly. He suggested that he'll adjust the price and meet me half way. He really did not have to do that, but I felt he was an honest person. The glass I ordered was cut to my specifications, polished, and perfectly wrapped and insulated. One of our double pane windows cracks when I was knocking on it on a very cold day. This was on a Sunday evening. MC Glass came out Monday morning to check it out. We had gotten 3 other quotes that day. MC Glass was the most honest and straightforward. Their pricing was also fair. We went with them. They came back out Friday and fixed the window. I have used MC Glass to repair windows and screens, to make storm window and storm door inserts. Today Chris and his installer came out and installed new storm windows in 8 windows in my apartment building. Their price is very competitive, they use a local vendor to fabricate the storms made to measure, lead time was very reasonable especially given we are between holidays. Windows fit perfectly and they were over and done by lunchtime. I'll use them again in the spring to replace some windows on the other side of the building. I think they use Climate Guard, another Chicago fabricator, to make replacement windows. read more

I opened my blind one day and found a huge crack on my large 5 pane bay window. One of the people that I called said "wow, it was a hard winter", but wasn't much more helpful beyond that. Then I spoke to MCGLass. Ben and Ernest are lovely. From Chris answering the phone to Ernest coming out to measure and give me my free estimate, the whole experience was easy and affordable. Their estimate was less than 1/2 of the other guys. (I got three total estimates.) They came on time, did a great job, and were very respectful of my home. I just had the glass replaced adjacent to the front door of my home. A member of my family accidentally broke one side of the glass, but I needed to replace glass on both the left and right side of the door so that the pieces would match. I wasn't able to find an exact replacement for the remaining piece of glass anywhere and ended up going with a replacement of both pieces. The glass that I chose was a custom piece, a tempered semi translucent glass that was 7 x 1. I called MC about a week and a half ago and they just installed it today so I am very satisfied with the speed at which this job got completed. The week and a half included the time it took to get the glass company MC uses to make this custom piece so they really handled this quickly. I think the price I paid was a little expensive, (about $850 to replace both windows) but overall I am very satisfied. Both Ernest and Ben were very nice when I worked with them in person and on the phone. I like the fact that the shop is so close to my home, and it makes me feel good to know that I'm working with a local shop instead of one of the big companies. Ernest installed the glass and he and I ended up talking during the entire job. Conclusion: If their quote works for you I highly recommend using them because the service that I received was excellent. read more

Had two windows that had lost their seals and fogged over. MC Glass told me I could just bring them in, they would measure them for replacement glass, and then I could take them home and reinstall them until the new glass arrived. A week later I took the windows back for them to install the new glass, and at the end of the day, picked them up, took them home and reinstalled them. Good as new! No problems. I have nothing but positive things to say about Ben (the owner, I believe) and Ernest, who came out and both measured up the job and installed it. I had to replace a full thermal glass pane on one of my breezeway sliding doors. Unlike another company I received a quote from MC Glass was clear about the steps involved, how long it would take--and that they would board up the window (which the other company waffled on). Though both companies emphasized how challenging it is to remove and replace this kind of window, MC Glass did a terrific job.
