My family of four was on a road trip back home to Seattle when we stopped in O'Brien for gas and food. The market & deli across the street didn't have any non-junk food to feed our hungry kids for dinner so we wandered over to McGrew's. We didn't know we were walking in 5 minutes before closing, and would have completely understood if we'd been turned away. But the lone waitress, Vanessa, welcomed us in with a smile. Vanessa, whose personality sparkled as much as her glittery makeup, was an absolute delight and SO funny. She's the kind of small town waitress you read about in the great American novel. The one you remember years after the meal is over. The food was delicious and hand-delivered to our table by the chef and was devoured by us all. Next time we're passing through Oregon, we'll make it a point to eat here again. McGrew's is a real diamond in the rough. read more

This place is a classy blast from the past steak house!! Great food and fantastic service. Angelique is a superstar with the four course meal that comes with the steak dinner. My husband got the dinner and I helped him with his soup and salad. I got the steak sandwich with steak fries. If you love steak fries, this is the place to go!! I stopped in here with my family while on vacation. McGrew's restaurant and lounge has a nice ambiance. They definitely have great attention to detail. There's a bar next door if you want to get a drink. We had a bit of sticker shock so we stuck to some of the cheaper meals. A lot of us ordered the McGrew's steak, which is a sirloin. Everyone declared their steak was cooked perfectly, so kudos to whoever you have working the meat station in the back. The tomato zucchini soup was the bomb! Yes, I'm dating myself. LOL. But it was! I could have eaten just that and their salad with the house blue cheese (yum) and been quite happy. My husband was gushing over the picked beets and he never gushes over anything. The lady serving us was very attentive and patient with our group, so high scores on that also. Okay, so the reason for three stars. My opinion is that the prices were too high for the quality of the food. Everyone agreed the steaks were under seasoned and one of them had quite a bit of gristle in it. My brother said his steak kabobs had some gristle as well. The au gratin potatoes were pretty bland, which a bit more salt could have fixed or the addition of a sharper cheese. If you get the ribs, be aware the barbecue sauce used is a bit on the sweeter side, so if you prefer more of a tangy taste you may want to pass on those. That said, they were fall off the bone tender! I went back and forth on this review. Ultimately, if the prices had been a bit lower and the food quality a bit higher I would have given this restaurant a four. There is room for improvement here, but also several gems that are worth the experience. read more

You know your enjoying fine rural dining when the A/C cover falls off, crashes to the ground and no one bats an eye. Mother's Day, understaffed (as it was Valentine's Day), extremely slow, didn't get some of our order, Overdone prime rib and a wrangler miffed stressing everyone he couldn't get the Wi-Fi password right. Some grandma at the table closest to the A/C sending back three different $40 bottles of wine back after one taste. Dinner and a show. Maybe don't go or next time have dinner at Taylors. Their first day open again since the dining shutdown! Nice warm dining room with funky decorations. Service was friendly and prompt. The food was expensive for the quality of some of the items. My favorite dish was the "house bleu" salad with their house made dressing. Very good. I want to go back on a Friday or Saturday when they offer the prime rib French dip. We are so limited in restaurants here in Cave Junction so tonight, and because I wanted to treat my husband to a special Father's Day dinner, we went into O'Brians and tried MCGrews Steakhouse. Boy were we surprised. The atmosphere was cozy and comfy, staff was super nice and sat us immediately. The menu was awesome. I ordered the halibut almandine and my husband ordered the prime rib. Both dinners were amazing. Both came with delicious soup, salad and your main meal. We splurged and shared a piece of homemade chocolate cheesecake. I have never tasted anything so good. Although the best part of our meal was the kindness of our waitress. I don't remember her name but she said she was French and had a slight accent. She was so helpful and just couldn't do enough for us. What a wonderful experience we had. We will definitely be going back. I recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We had high hopes for this place. But where the F do I start? It took forever to get menus, then drinks. The waiter was in no way a multi Tasker. Soup, salad, and sides were great. Unfortunately all 4 of our steaks were over cooked. Medium does not mean gray inside. Then he argued with me that is was cooked right. It took us nearly two hours to get through a very mediocre meal. But hey at least we still got to pay $39.50 each for these crappy steaks. ZERO STARS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

Loved this place! We were driving to Seattle and stopped for gas and decided to roll the dice on this place. SO good! We split the prime rib and added an extra salad and chowder. The service here is some of the worst I have ever had, and my friends work here! I walked into the restaurant side with a friend on a friday night, and server after server walked right by without even an acknowledgement. My friend had to flag down a girl who just ran by us and told us to find a seat. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants in CJ have a laid back attitude which turns into not having a clue how to work in a restaurant. When we finally got menu's and food, it wasn't too bad. If the food had been bad, this would be an easy one star. Couldn't believe how bad the service was. I will never come have dinner here again cause I don't want to embarrass myself our my dining guest. I will however come back for the bar. read more

My boyfriend and I were referred to Mcgrews, so figured we would go try it out since there are lack of options in the Cave Junction area. It looked pleasant from the outside and when we walked in it was dark and dingy. Mind you it was the day after Halloween when we went, so the decor was still up inside. We were seated right away and given a dish of veggies to munch on, which by the way looked and tasted days old. I ordered the bacon cheese burger, and my boyfriend ordered the steak fries. There were flying gnats all over our table and soon on our food. Not to mention the real spiders I saw hanging in the corners of the booth we were seated at. I ate half of my burger before I discovered a black hair on my plate next to the other half of burger still on my plate. As I proceeded to wipe it away, it was stuck in my burger. I then pulled it out of my burger and it was so looooong, it made me gag. My boyfriend literally spit his food right out. I was comped my meal. No tip and we left. Never to return. The waiters excuse was that the hair prob came from a costume wig from the day before. Umm...ewww! So that means my burger was a day old. I could see into the kitchen from where we were sitting and i watched the cook put my burger into an effing microwave. Sorry, but I don't recommend that place! ZERO STARS! read more

Yes, a solid 5 star place..........great decor, friendly staff, great food, at an excellent price. A couple things, you will be sorry if you don't get the house bleu cheese vinaigrette on your salad, and even sorrier if you don't choose the Au Gratin potatoes. $16.95 delivered an antipasto plate, soup, salad and my entree of breaded scallops w/ choice of potatoes, that's value! Our friends and nearby neighbors are regulars there, and we met them there, it's a bit of a drive from Grants Pass, but well worth it! Our neighbor's say it's there favorite restaurant, and I can see why......one of the best salad dressings I've ever had, and certainly the best potatoes. I will say the place has what I can only call a casual, comfortable elegance.......without a bit of pretense or snooty attitude! read more

I'm a local and don't eat out much, but the few times I have been here I was very impressed with the quality fresh dinner I was served. The bar is small and needs to be brightened up. It can feel kinda creepie for younger fem's. The drinks were great though and if i'm with a man I like having a romantic dinner and playing some pool in the bar side. I'm so glad that I was dining with 5 other people otherwise I would have walked out after waiting 30 minutes just to get a menu. This place is a mess! We ordered appetizers. That was a mistake. The sushi was horrible. We all ordered different steaks. Out of the six ordered, only one came cooked right. That's because my friend wanted his well done. All of the meat was way over cooked. Not sure if their chef knew what medium rare is. All in all its 3 hours we will never get back! I would never go back there. I'm not sure why this place is still open. read more
