Chicken & Dumpling Soup and 1/2 Smoked Turkey | Swiss Cheese Sandwich - Good!
    Kathy T.

Both our lunches were from the "Take 2", which means 2 items for $8 and some change, which is a very reasonable deal. But for some unexplained reason, an extra $1.25 was added to my French Dip. Also unexplainable was the price difference from our first visit. Because last time, I remember thinking this was a decent place to come that will allow two people to have a simple meal for under $20. No explanation why my total this time was $6 more, and both meals, both times, were from the "Take 2" selections. I took off a star for this, because I really dislike having my (anticipated) total ready, and then have to go digging in my purse to get my wallet out again for even more money when the total is announced higher than expected. I wouldn't have minded had the food been worth the extra cost. It wasn't. My Chicken n Dumplings Soup tasted old. No huge, lean chunks of chicken this time. The noodles were all stuck tightly together on top of one another, which made eating difficult, since the noodles are both wide and thick. They were gummy as well as being stuck together. I did not get any dumplings in this cup, which was disappointing, since that was the best part of the soup the first time I had it. Perhaps the soup was made the day before. It was rather flavorless. My French Dip, which I asked for "grilled" was not as crispy as I'd have liked it to be but it was passable. When I asked for it grilled, the girl said, "We no longer grill our sandwiches", which I wouldn't have known, since I am new to Chattanooga. But you would think if a customer mentions "grilled crisp", and since there were at least seven cooks in the kitchen, probably more, there could have been some effort to crisp it up to resemble something close to what the customer is asking for. I say this with the knowledge there were only three other customers eating in McAllisters, so the ratio of cooks to customers was 2 to 1! The taste of the sandwich itself was rather good, but for the use of a hoagie roll, I would expect their meat weight for that sandwich to not be so light on meat. It needed more meat if you're going to use that much bread. I took off another star for this. I doubt we'll be back.

We decided to stop here for lunch in the middle of a road trip for lunch, and we are so glad we did! The food was so good, amazing quality for the price. The employees could not have been nicer. The customer service was outstanding. The interior was so clean! They were so fast at clearing tables and keeping the place spotless. If we weren't from out of town, I'd make this a regular spot.

    Foreign object (paper) in sandwich

I ordered delivery from this restaurant and when I went to take a bite of my sandwich it didn't taste right. That's because there was a piece of paper cooked into my sandwich. I ate some of the paper so I am sick to my stomach at the thought. On top of that I called the restaurant to ask them to please not burn my sandwich bread, because they usually burn it. When I open up my sandwich all I see is burnt sandwich bread.

My wife and I love McAlisters, we've been to this location several times and had good experiences however, my wife was very surprised to bite into a toothpick that was inside her sandwich this last time we picked up lunch. The toothpick wasn't stuck through the top of the sandwich to hold it all together but instead was laying in between the cheese and meat inside the sandwich. I'm sure this was a mistake but nevertheless a rather dangerous one that could've ended very badly. My food was perfect and our order was ready right on time so I hate to complain but with something that could cause harm to a customer I felt I needed to share.

The team was incredibly welcoming and shared that they're part of the same restaurant group behind Easy Bistro and Little Coyote, which immediately raised my expectations--and they delivered. For our picnic, we were sent off with a fantastic selection of cured meats accompanied by mustard and giardiniera. The combination of savory meats, tangy mustard, and the bright kick from the giardiniera created the perfect balance of flavors. I love businesses that take simple ingredients and execute them exceptionally well, and Main Street Meats does exactly that. Whether you're building a charcuterie board, grabbing lunch, or looking for quality meats to take home, this place deserves a visit.

We subbed mashed potatoes for cut fries and broccoli and this was the way to go! The broccoli was so delicious, I love the char taste + Parmesan. We had two glasses of wine and finished off the meal with their chocolate gelato. I'll be raving about this meal to anyone who chooses to visit Chattanooga. Very great service, indoor and outdoor seating, and no wait (waitlist available if there is).

Naming your sandwich shop Tasty Heaven Sandwich Shop "Heaven" is a bold strategy. That's not…read morebranding... that's a performance guarantee. I needed something quick, light, and close to our company office in Chattanooga. The ratings were strong, the reviews looked promising, and frankly when you call yourself Heaven, expectations go up fast. I'm not asking for miracles... but a great sandwich would be a nice start. First clue something was... developing... was the sign. Still a banner out front. Which usually means one of two things: 1. Brand new and figuring things out. 2. Someone lost a bet with a printing company. Inside felt like a sandwich shop that's been around for decades. Worn floors, chalkboards tossed up on the wall like they lost a game of darts, and the menu scribbled across them in chalk. Not charming-chaotic. More like... chaotic-chaotic. No problem. I'm here for the sandwich. I ordered the #1, because when a place names a sandwich after itself, that's usually the mic drop item. The "Heaven Classic." If you're going to plant your flag, plant it on the best hill. It came out fast. Very fast. Suspiciously fast. I brought it back to the office, opened it up, took a bite... and immediately felt like I'd been transported to the deli aisle of a gas station. "If this sandwich were any more average, it would come with an Oscar Mayer jingle." The bread was actually pretty good. Nice texture, solid foundation. But the filling? It felt like someone stopped at a convenience store, grabbed a pack of cold cuts, and said, "Yep... this'll do." Now here's where the plot twist comes in. Afterward I started digging through the reviews because the disconnect was wild. People were raving about this place. Five stars everywhere. I'm thinking, "Did I walk into the wrong universe?" Turns out... most of those reviews are for Steamboat. Looks like the place changed names sometime late last year. Same location, new name, very different experience. So the glowing reputation may belong to a former tenant. Which leads to my final thought... If this is Heaven, I'd hate to see the alternative. I'm landing at three stars, mostly because I'm feeling generous today and the bread deserved better than the situation it was put in. Would I go back? Probably not. Chattanooga has way too many great sandwich spots to gamble on purgatory again.

I arrived just as the owner was getting ready to close. Even so, he kindly welcomed me in and made me a sandwich, which immediately left a great impression. While waiting, I learned the owner has been running Figgy's for about 30 years. The restaurant has that classic local lunch spot feel, with regulars stopping in and a friendly, community atmosphere. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, and the service was genuinely welcoming. If you're looking for a local Chattanooga sandwich shop with great food, fair prices, and an owner who truly cares about his customers, Figgy's is absolutely worth a visit.
