I ordered online. My order was supposed to be ready for pick-up at 12:54. I got there at 12:50. I was going to pick up in the drive through line. I watched the car in front of me talk to the speaker and then drive away. That should have been a clue. I waited behind a car for 10 minutes before I got to the window and said I was there to pick up an online order. The man said "It's going to be a while." I love coming to this place because of the generous size of their sweet tea. It also tastes great obviously. Today I went and got the free tea tumbler that they were promoting for the first 20 customers on national tea day. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating to me at both this location and the Lake Zurich location as well. I asked for a bigger size of Mac and cheese and they were happy to help me out and it was reasonable priced. I definitely will be coming back as much as can since I can bring the tea tumbler and get a 99 cent refill :) I really wish there was one closer to the city since I'm at least a half hour away from one, this is my only complaint :) read more

I was treated very poorly tonight by Silvio. I walked in at 8:30, sign on the door says they close at 9pm. As I was ordering Silvio pointed out that they were closing in 20 minutes. Wasn't quite sure what his point was as I've never had a restaurant employee point out closing time. At 8:48 he walked around to every table to say they were closing in 5 minutes. I was only half way done with my meal. I felt incredibly rushed and didn't get to finish. Again this has never happened to me before. Normally they lock the doors and let you finish. I'm from the south and moved to the Midwest almost 9 years ago now and McAlisters was extremely missed. We went to the opening when we found out there was one opening in Vernon Hills. When I found out there was going to be one less then 2 miles away I was so happy! The restaurant was clean and the food came out quick and was delicious!!!! I love free sweet tea refills as well. We look forward to coming all the time and the team should be very proud of how they did opening day!!!! read more

This is a great place. Much better than any other sandwich shop like potbellys. Much more extensive menu. A little pricey but the only cheap place is subway. 3.50 sub of the day. But this is way better than any 3.50 sub at crappy subway. I came opening day and was impressed. I had the mcallisters club (hold the lettuce and tomato) and chips. They gave me the full fat chips but gladly exchanged It for the low fat ones. And today I tried the king club with mac and cheese. The king was too big to finish so I took half home and ate it for dinner. But they were very nice and I did not even have to get up. One guy brought me a box and another one asked if I wanted a free refill on my soda ( which was huge BTW). They only have one size but it free refills. And its more than enough for 1 person. Mediocre food and terrible service. We got there about 10 minutes before the lunchtime rush, and it still took 25 minutes to get our food - the manager returned from a catering job and told us that the sandwich line was backed up. When our food finally arrived, my baked potato was lukewarm, so my husband took it back to get heated up. Ten minutes later, I had to go ask for it; they had made a whole new one, and it still wasn't heated all the way through. My husband said his coleslaw wasn't great, and his Reuben was just okay. Do not come here if you're on lunch break from work and have a limited amount of time. This is where lunch breaks come to die. I visited on a Monday during the lunch rush and it could not be clearer that this place has not figured out how to handle lunch rush volume. Customer-facing employees have obviously not been provided with enough training, as the girl who rang me up had to yell to her manager several times for help throughout the process, had to re-do my (extremely simple 1 sandwich 1 side) order a couple of times, and needed me to provide my credit card to swipe a second time after already having done it once. I was probably at the register for a good 5-7 minutes for this part of the process. I ordered my food to go. Then came the waiting. And waiting. And waiting. While waiting for my food, I witnessed another unhappy customer who had made the mistake of ordering his food to eat in the restaurant come up to the counter - he said something to the effect of "you might as well make it to go now, I've got to be back at work in ten minutes." It appeared that they accommodated him at least. After a good deal of waiting my order was finally up, but I watched what I suspected was the box containing my food (I was ultimately correct), as well as several other completed carry-out orders, sitting up on the shelf behind the counter for a solid ten minutes while the staff ignored them and prioritized getting dine-in orders out to tables. When staff finally deigned to give me my food, they attempted to throw my order in the same bag as an order intended for someone else as if our orders were part of the same order when they were plainly not. I guess it was somehow confusing that two different people could have ordered the exact same thing? Maybe the mistake is mine for not taking advantage of the ability to order ahead, but based on my experience today I wouldn't have all that much confidence in it anyway. If I ever try this place again, I will probably try ordering ahead to avoid the black hole of a timesink that is going into the restaurant to order. Hopefully they figure out how to manage the lunch rush as I assume that is where the bulk of their business will come from at this location. One star awarded by default, another star awarded because the sandwich was decent but nothing extraordinary. The fruit that came as a side was bad. read more

Went on line to order a salad, stated after I clicked purchase problem with the web site okay, got an email stating I would not be charged. so I went to the restaurant ordered my salad a Chicken Cesar, wanted it tossed, the girl on the register stated okay we toss it anyway, I said no I wanted it tossed in the dressing, okay okay what did I get not tossed, wilted brown lettuce and double charged. I love this place!! It's clean, delicious, and well staffed. I am actually quite surprised by the low reviews that I just read. I've now visited here two weeks in a row around lunch time. Prices are comparable to Panera but I think they have far more options and better quality of food. I've tried the garden turkey sandwich and the Mac & cheese. The sandwich was delicious! My toddler loved the Mac & cheese! I went in around 11:30am and we had our food delivered to our table in under ten minutes. The staff today was wonderful! They helped get a high chair to my table while I had my 20 month old in tow. In addition, many stopped by to greet my son and I and to check in on everything. And to make this place even more enjoyable, kids eat free on Tuesdays with the purchase of an adult meal! read more

Ok, nothing really great. I was excited to see something new in the 'hood, but was disappointed with the food. Kids had mac n cheese and it looked highly processed and definitely not fresh. The other kid has nachos with some sort of "cheese" sauce that looked nasty. I had a chicken salad sandwich that was just not fresh or tasty. Ok so first off I am not impressed by the food. The place is clean and the people were nice but I was unimpressed. The salad I ordered I could have made myself the way the cheese was sprinkled on top with a scoop of guacamole. The portion was big and was mostly lettuce. I usually like my salads mixed with everything but that's not how this came. The baked potatoes are huge so share a whole one scratch that all the portions are huge including the drinks which score one for the lemonade being tasty. We ate at McAlister's on Friday night. Not one employee said hello or greeted us in any way, and they looked like they couldn't wait to leave. No smiles on anyone's faces. I ordered a half chopped Italian salad and half tomato basil soup. The soup was thick and tasted like marinara sauce. The salad was not chopped at all, had very little ham and peppers in it, and the peppers were not fresh. I actually picked out a few that were a little slimy and soft. Eww. I had to cut up the salad because the lettuce pieces were too large. McAlister's, don't call this a chopped salad unless you chop up everything in it! When our food was brought out the server actually rolled his eyes when I asked him for a bigger bowl for my salad. The bowl was so small the salad would have fallen out once I started to mix it. He told me they didn't have bigger bowls. What?! This was a half-sized salad so what do they serve the regular sized salads in? I then asked him for a plate, he looked annoyed that he had to go back to the kitchen to get one, and when he returned the plate was dirty. My parents shared a baked potato and sandwich, can't remember which one, but they said their meal was just okay, and not good enough to want to come back. Maybe their sandwiches are the better choice but I was VERY displeased with the salad and soup. I regretted ordering them. Will I go back to McAlister's? Probably not, though their selection of children's meals looked good so maybe I'd go as an option for my children. Next time I will definitely not order a salad, maybe not even eat at all. First visit. We had five people in our group. Three of the four orders were delivered wrong. IE: Mayo when none requested. None of us could understand the order takers. Maybe they didn't understand us completely either. Guess it's our fault for not having them repeat back the orders. Three of four soups ordered were cold. I've been here quite a few times now, and every time I ask myself after a visit 'didn't I learn my lesson last time?'. Every time I have ordered from here weather it be ordering in person or on the phone at least one aspect of my order is incorrect. Every time I visit and order in person my food seems to be left to die at the window. When I comment about it I'm given a half hearted response or shrug and handed over my withered food. I usually order the same thing every time. A veggie potato with only cheese and broccoli. The first time I made this mistake I was given a very large spud with TWO pieces of broccoli. Lovely. The next couple times I've ordered it with EXTRA broccoli and have been sadly disappointed when I realize there is only FOUR pieces of broccoli. I simply end up heating up broccoli from my fridge and throwing it in there since they don't seem to understand the concept of extra broccoli. Calling in an order is an even bigger problem. Each time the order is incorrect and usually to the point of not fixing it. (Wrong kind of bread, extra mayo when I request NO mayo, sandwiches with random mustard on them, and so on.) I understand that this establishment has only been in business for a couple months but when every visit is a disappointment I wonder why these mistakes are consistently being made. I ordered two deli sandwiches by phone and paid in advance. I was told I can drive up to drive-up window for no contact pick up or go into the restaurant. I arrived 15 minutes later and drove up to pick up my food. There was a car in front of me at the window. We waited 20 minutes and no one came to the window. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a line of cars behind me and I could not back up to get out of the line. After another ten minutes, I physically got out of my car and walked to the cars behind me to ask them to move back so I could get out of the line. The other cars kindly did that and most of them drive away to go somewhere else. I had already paid, so I entered the restaurant with my protective facemask on. The man who later identified himself as the manager (but he refused to give me his name) was standing over food making sandwiches at the back counter with no mask on. He ignored me when I walked in. There were two teenage male workers on the side near the drive up window (it appeared they were waiting on him to finish making the food). I saw my food packed in a bag on the counter and it was ready for pick up. I waited and no one offered to assist me. I said, "Excuse me, I'm here to pick up my food and it's right there. You know you're supposed to wear a facemask, especially when handling food." He immediately blew up at me, using inappropriate language and he told me to leave the store." I was shocked and, at that point, my deli (perishable) food had been sitting out (unrefrigerated) more than 45 minutes. I decided it was best to get a refund and leave anyway. This man was extremely angry (and clearly that way already before I arrived; I probably walked in on him stressed out because he was under staffed and behind on making food). I said "Ok, I'd like a refund to my credit card." He berated me that I have no business telling him to wear a facemask and to get out of his store. He refused to hand me the bag of food at the counter OR refund the money. I left and said "I am reporting you for violating the rules and not wearing a facemask." He used profanities at me as I left. I'm reporting this to the corporate headquarters in Georgia on Monday morning. They are closed right now. read more

worst customer service. placed an order for pick up that was wrong (missing all the toppings on a spud max). called in and manager offered a refund and i said that would be fine as i was almost home. two days later, no refund so i called and a different manager hurriedly took my name and number and said he would look into it and call me back. two days after this no call and no refund. i called again and another manager said he would look into it and said he couldn't do anything abt it himself. took my information down and said he would call. about 4days later now, no phone call, no refund, no solution. didn't even get an apology ONCE in all of this. filed a complaint with corporate only to find out this location is privately owned and thus they were unable to help me. how is this ok? read more

A tasty new addition to the neighborhood. We really enjoyed the diverse menu and will he back. The baked potatoes were huge and tasty. The salads were excellent. I recommend the fire roasted veggie soup. Oh, and the loaded nachos were a hit. One note is that the kids meal mac and cheese is a really small portion of mac and will be too small for most kids. Wish they did less chips/sides and more mac. But everything else was really big portions. And the service was very friendly and good. Hope this place is successful. read more

Just finished having dinner there with my wife. We went because of a coupon for two dinners and drinks for $16. Eight dollars per person for dinner? We had to try the place. First of all the night manager, Jeremy, was very gracious and patient with us asking many questions since it was our first time here. We each wound up ordering a half sandwich and a side salad. The side salad was almost a meal in itself! The half sandwiches were quite tasty and came on ciabatta bread which was a pleasant surprise. I had their Italian salad and it was large, as I said, and had ample amounts of cheese and salami. There were quite a few black olives as well. The only other suggestion I would make is to change the cups they serve their drinks in. Those cups (which are HUGE by the way) were both slippery, hard to get my hand around and buckled when being held, making taking a drink somewhat precarious. We told them that we WILL be back whether or not we get another coupon, not only because the food is good but because Jeremy was such a pleasant and gracious host. They rate about 3 1/2 Stars but I'll give them 4 because of Jeremy. read more

Our family has now eaten at McAlisters in Deerfield 3 times and enjoyed everything we ordered. It's true that food prep takes 10-15 minutes, but that's how long we usually wait at a Panera and McAlisters has tastier dishes coming from a much larger and more varied menu. The huge baked potatoes are wonderful and we've liked every sandwich we ordered. The location is a bit hidden, back near the Home Depot and Metra station, and we've never encountered a long line or a wait for tables. We'll definitely add this to our informal supper rotation. read more

My friend and I came here for the first time and had a great experience. Customer service was fantastic! The staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered the Reuben sandwich and some chicken sandwich with a side of peachy bbq sauce (excellent recommendation by the way). Both were very tasty. Now, the real reason we give this place 5 stars was because there was only one other couple table eating here. While this may seem like a negative, it was a positive for my friend and I. We didn't have to deal with loud snotty individuals on an evening where we needed to have a serious conversation. I would definitely recommend dining here on a Sunday evening! We ordered McAlisters for a team meeting. I've never ordered here before but the sandwich looked decent in the picture. This was bar none the worst experience I've had. The order was incomplete. We ordered chips for 7, none were included. There were no condiments and everyone had sandwiches....!!! There were two orders for cheese cake. The cake was missing the strawberry glaze. My team mates who picked up the order said they forgot to give us cups, lids, and the two gallon orders for tea and lemonade. And they managed to mess that order up by giving us two gallons of lemonade! The bread was not toasted. I ordered the french dip and the cheese was barely melted. I suggested that my manager complain however shes too busy to comment. I'm a foodie so when I have excellent service I comment. Likewise when the food is rubbish I also comment. Since I've never been here I'm not sure if this is an exception or a norm. My peers said they were backed up, however from my perspective so is Portillos, but I never had this experience with them. I doubt if I'll be going back here but hopefully someone from the company reads these and gets their act together. read more

Went for dinner. Been to one in Albuquerque, NM that is very good and great service. This one had very slow service. Needs more people. It will not make it with a Portillos across the street cranking out hundreds of customers quickly. Veggie chili was okay, but too soupy. Southwest Cobb salad was average. The lettuce was not crispy. Must have been sitting all day. Would only go there for lunch. read more
