Mom and I stopped in for a late lunch-early dinner. This is the kind of place where you order at the counter, then they deliver to your table. My mom ordered a 1/2 & 1/2, sandwich and soup. She had the potato soup, which was good but "not as good as hers", and the Ruben sandwich, which she loved!!! I am working on the vegetarian diet, so I ordered a large paid, which was huge!!!! I loved that I could customize it. It's definitely a whole meal. One thing I appreciated is that they were out of baked potatoes, so they had to make fresh ones. They had a sandwich on the normal menu and said it could only be ordered as a kids? And their lack of soups such as tomato soup and the basics is confusing. They also up charged me to get the pick two one sandwich one soup, so I ended up paying more for less sandwich. My soup also came way after my sandwich and by then the sandwich was cold, and in general our table waited a while for our food even on a non-packed day. We drove from Enterprise to Dothan as it's listed as Pet Friendly....we have enjoyed McAlisters in Port St Lucie, FL in the past. We had to evacuate for the current hurricane. We arrived and went onto the patio and it was terrible! The patio floor was disgusting and the whole area smelled. The fans were on low, none over a table and one was missing a blade. This place is normally really good, over the years I saw management go downhill and plumbing in restrooms has always been an issue with water leaks in various places of restaurant. Since new renovations I have returned, and food has been gradually getting better with time. Usually order the Grilled Chicken Caesar wrap that is hit or miss on if they will give you any dressing. Sometimes it has had barely any on it and if you try to ask for extra they charged you. This time however my mother got it and it was super good! They got it right the first time. I actually got their summer menu choice of a Pecanberry salad topped with grilled chicken, strawberries, pecans, blueberries, and a really good either raspberry or strawberry dressing. I'm all about a place that doesn't serve fried food and went there based on the other reviews. I wish I had gotten a salad or soup because the sandwich I had was soaked in some combination of oil/grease/butter and might as well have been fried. They had similar options and marketing material to someplace like an Atl Bread co, but the execution just wasn't there. I was happy to see options and flavors that aren't typically served in the Dothan area (peach chipotle sounded awesome but neither flavor quite came through). I guess I'd go back and give a non-sandwich a go. Side notes: Take out also took a while and I think I would call ahead if I did that again. Really mediocre food, I have given it a few chances now and there are many places to eat that are far better. The sandwiches I have had are on par with school cafeteria food. The meat tastes like flavored rubber, the vegetables are not fresh and nothing seems homeade. On the plus side, it's not expensive, the tea is good, the environment is ok and if you just need food it will do the job. In general stay away, try Atlanta Bread co. We've been eating at McAlister's chain restaurants for nearly 20-years. In fact, after the birth of each of our daughters, this was the sandwich my wife craved in the hospital. But they are pricing themselves out for us. $8 for a sandwich? My daughter ordered the kids nachos. The order came with 8 - 8!! - tortilla chips. I asked the server to bring more, he came back telling us it would cost $1 for more chips. I asked to see the manager, who did bring more chips after I complained, but said it was company policy to charge $1 for more tortilla chips. For a pricey meal, that's a chintzy policy. I am always overly satisfied when I eat here. The spuds are the best intown (pot roast, and spud max.!) are my favorite.
