We generally love going here but unfortunately when the owner isn't there it completely goes down hill. We went on Saturday night at 6. Ordered our food, they had no tea left and the cashier showed no interest in making any. After waiting quite a bit to get our food, they came out and said they had no baked potatoes left and no Mac n cheese. Again it was only 6pm on a Saturday. They don't close till 9. We ordered 3 French dips, the au jus sauce was COLD! And then I took a bite of the Mac n cheese (which was all they had left) and it also was cold. The staff came out and started cleaning and then we heard that they were closing at 7 because it had started snowing. So they stopped cooking anything because they obviously wanted to get out as early as possible. It was very disappointing. read more

I really wish there was a zero option, 1 star feels too high. Every single time I come to this location I leave aggravated. The people who work here do not care about the customer, take forever to take an order, and even longer to bring you your order. If my son did not like the sandwiches here I would be thrilled to never visit again. Portions are small and overpriced. Watch your receipt, you will be charged extra for mustard and other upsells. I have never had a smile or friendly person help me at McAlister's. There is zero customer service. Often there is no sweet tea available. You waited 25 minutes for your takeout order, oh well. It will happen to you next time so why bother apologizing? The kid's meals are tiny, I guess the low price means you will finish it in one minute. Yesterday my daughter's mac and cheese was no joke, 3 spoonfuls. If they could improve the portions, get orders out faster, and actually care about the customers I would be more inclined to visit often. This location is super convenient and popular. It keeps getting worse. Today I had a roast chicken club and I swear the chicken breast was barely there. The bacon was pasty and flabby, and I asked for no honey mustard and also got no mayo. Coleslaw is icky sweet and about half sauce -- a weird pale orange color. I was initially a big fan of this place, but for $10 (I drink water or it would be more) I can get a GOOD sandwich somewhere else. The portions at McAlister's are pathetic and leave me hungry. I'm writing to you to let you know how disappointed I am with one of your McAlister Deli establishments. Today I placed two orders on-line to be picked up at curbside pick up. One was for $30.34 and the other was for $10.85. The email said it would be ready by 12:20. I called the store to explain that I had placed two orders, both under my name, but to make sure they were both taken out to my waiting husband. The person on the phone from McAlisters, Claudia, even asked if I wanted it in the same bag or separate bag. I responded by saying it didn't matter. Ok, everything is fine up to this point. My husband arrived and called the store at 12:12 to let them know he was there. They said they would bring out the orders when they were ready. He finally received the order at 12:47. When he arrived home I asked him where the other order was, and he said this is all he got. I had even called the store, after placing my order on-line to point out the two separate orders. I immediately called the store and spoke again to Claudia to let her know my second order was not in the bag. After convincing her that I really did not get my second order, she finds it sitting on the counter. Her response was, "do you want to come get it?" I declined and asked that she refund my credit card instead. I then proceeded to tell her that the sandwich on my first order was incorrect also and would she refund that as well. She questioned how it was incorrect and then put me on hold. When she came back to the phone, she said that the cook "swore that they had made it correctly and for me to check the bread, etc. again" I proceeded to tell her that I was looking directly at the sandwich and had taken it apart and had not found the ingredient that the cook "swore" they had placed on the sandwich. I then offered to send her a picture of the sandwich as proof. She once again put me on hold and when she came back to the phone the second time, said that she was not going to refund the sandwich because the cook "swore" that they had made it correctly. At this point I was infuriated that she was now accusing me of being untruthful. I said, "I am bringing the sandwich back and you can see that it is not me that's lying but your cook." That's exactly what I did. I drove all the way back to the deli absolutely furious at this point. Not only was my to-go order almost 30 minutes late, but I didn't get one of the items I ordered and one of the items I did get was incorrect. Then to top all that off, I am having to waste my time calling the store to let them know and being accused by an employee and cook of lying, and then having to drive all the way back there to prove that I wasn't lying. But wait, it keeps getting better. I arrive at the deli with my mis-made sandwich in tow and ask to speak to the manager. The manager pokes her head out the kitchen window and says she DOESN'T HAVE TIME TO SPEAK WITH ME BECAUSE SHE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CATERING ORDER!!! DOESN'T HAVE TIME TO SPEAK WITH ME??? What???? I decided if shes not going to come out to me to have a civil conversation without making too much of a scene then I was going to have to speak loud enough for her to hear me in the kitchen. I said, "one of your employees implied that I was lying." That got her attention and drew her out of the kitchen. I proceeded to tell her what happened and instead of apologizing for my inconvenience proceeded to list off a variety of excuses instead; "we've had five people call and want their money back because their orders were incorrect", "we are trying not to get robbed by having to refund a bunch of money", "it's a pandemic", "Claudia's new". The list goes on. I said to her, "so not even a sorry, huh?" Honestly, that really would have been a great place, on her part, to start. She looks at my sandwich, and low and behold, I was telling the truth about it being made incorrectly. So I guess it was the cook lying not me! She said she is going to refund my entire order and I said don't forget the salad that I never got. So now instead of having to refund an incorrectly made sandwich for $9.99, she is refunding the entire amount. That's all well and good, but the moral of the story is, they did not treat me with respect, nor did the manager of the store act like she had the time of day for a disgruntled customer. She let the whole situation blow up like a balloon, when she could have handled it like a service oriented manager should have. Oh yeah, and has now lost a customer. read more

Been here twice now, to me, everything is just boring and plain. First time they ran out of spuds. On a Saturday night. How do you run out of your biggest menu item??? And we didn't find out they were out until after we ordered. Quite annoying. The workers are just lazy teenagers who joke around while you order. While we were ordering the one worker turned to the other who was dancing and said "yo man you gotta pee?"...not something I wanna hear about while I'm ordering food. They also used their bare hands to scoop out our order of green tea from a tub on the counter like we were at a frat party. Not very appetizing. First time I got the half caesar chicken wrap and half McAllister club. It was ok. Just your average sandwich. I think you should get some fries or chips with your order.. I came back for the spud. Wish I didn't. I got the spud max. The only interesting thing is the size. It's about 2 times the size of a regular potato. Mine had slightly burnt skin and they don't even put enough toppings on. You get a sprinkle of cheese, bacon and ham. Just enough for the first few bites. You're then left eating a plain potato for 3/4 of the meal. Spice it up, put some bbq sauce, jalapeños, fried onions, pulled pork, something! Moral of the story is I won't be back. read more

Upon a recommendation from a friend, I decided to give McAlister's a try. I had heard of the chain, but never sought the company out in Herndon, but since a location opened in Fairfax, I decided to stop by for carry out. I ordered for a few people, and everyone liked the sandwich or combo that they received. I've been back a couple of times, and quality is consistent, something that other fast casual deli/bread restaurants do not always have, depending upon location. They have some very good veggie and vegan options, and are also aware of allergens and alternative methods of preparation, such that I can order for family members who have specific food allergies, including myself. I ordered a giant potato and was expecting a bit more broccoli and peppers on top, especially as I ordered it without the cheese sauce. That's a minor complaint, but it didn't completely satisfy as it would have with the sauce, since that would add many calories. It was baked very well, however, since I have had my share of microwaved potatoes or those not cooked through, so I do like the way they are prepared. Wait time for a walk-in order is reasonable, and management do strive to get everything expedited. Overall, it's a solid option, and preferable to other nearby places, especially as the pick two options and full sandwiches come with a side. I will definitely be back, since the menu is placed where it can be found, and the family has other items that they wish to try in the coming days. Just stopped by again and they do advertise free WiFi Andy charging stations at each table or bar for your USB or plug in charger, so you can power your phone and laptop. read more

Good food in general but don't get the 4 Cheese sandwich. I got it and one of the pieces of bread was rubbery like it had been microwaved. They redid it. HUGE MISTAKE. I got the same result and less cheese. Looks like they only put 2 cheeses on there. The attitude of the bald guy at front was horrible. The lady at the front was accommodating. But results were poor. No napkins, I had to go into the restroom and get paper towels to use as napkins. They say their club has 13 layers... they must count the mayo and the bread. The food is good, but tonight was the second time I went when they were out of potatoes, and since half of their menu is baked potatoes, I don't get it. I was there at 8pm, they close at 9pm. I ordered a potato and they said they were out. They he said they weren't really out, but they didn't have anymore made and it would be 15 or 20 minutes. I said I'd wait. Got invited to be apart of their pre-grand opening lunch and was not disappointed. As soon as we entered the door we got greeted by a young lady who offered samples of their famous sweet tea. We get to the register and the young lady helping us was very nice and patient despite the large crowd behind us in line. Food quality is excellent as always. I have no idea if the food is any good. They took so long I finally had to leave. It was not busy when I got there at around 6:40 PM. There were only a couple tables occupied and no one in line. I ordered a roast beef sandwich for myself and a cheese pita pizza for my 3 year old. I was keeping my daughter occupied and lost track of time. I did notice people seemed to be waiting around for their food, even pickup orders. I looked at my phone and it was 7:05. A line starting to develop and some food was coming out of the kitchen so I figured I'd wait a couple more minutes before I went to the front to ask about my food. Then my little one yawned and said she wanted to go home. With a tired child and a long line, I just left without my food. It was 7:19 when we got to our car down by the theaters. read more

I work near this McAlister's and was excited when they opened. Unfortunately, it has been a disaster since then. For example, on Monday, I ordered a sandwich and potato salad, online. It stated it would be ready in 20 minutes. I headed over to the restaurant to pick up my order, at the designated time, and it wasn't ready. The guy at the counter looked at me and said, "It's still going to be a few minutes". I waited for another 10 minutes before he brings over my take-out order. He said,"Here's you chicken salad". I let him know that I did not order a salad and that I had ordered a club and potato salad. He looked confused and turned to the guy preparing the food and told him the situation. The guy preparing the food then asks to see my receipt. I handed my phone to the guy at the counter who then handed it to the guy preparing the food (gross-cellphones are dirty). Anyway, after seeing the receipt, he prepared my sandwich and they sent me on my way. Once I got back to the office, I realized the sandwich was not prepared as I had requested. I had asked for country white bread, but instead I received wheat bread. At this point I had waited long enough and decided not to go back and request it being fixed. This is not the first incident we have had at this particular McAlister's. It does not compare to the quality or customer service of the Herndon location. read more
