I've been to this location several times in the hopes of having a better experience. The first time I went they just opened so I expected some growing pains. The second time they were open for about 2 months and the third and final time was 4 months after they opened. The first two times it took about 20 minutes to get my food and I ordered soup and a sandwich at 7:15pm so there wasn't much traffic. Today was the third and final time. I figured that after about 4 months there would be better service and timely. After 20 minutes of not receiving my to go order I went to the counter to complain. I ordered a bowl of soup, mac n cheese and a sandwich. The manager at the counter stated that my order was deleted from the system. I've given this location three different attempts to win my business and each time they have let me down. They have about 10 cooks in the kitchen and you can see the distinction and poor leadership dragging this great company down. This was our first time in the Gurnee store. And our second time at a McAllister's. I had the New Yorker and added sauerkraut to it. The wife had the Italian. We shared Our sandwiches. They were both tasty flavorful and fresh. We shared sides of mac & cheese, steamed broccoli, superfood slaw, and chips. We had the New York cheesecake for dessert. That was real good. Unfortunately, I was told that the cheesecake is a discontinued item on the menu and once the warehouse is empty of the cheesecakes they will no longer be available. The sandwiches were very flavorful, the greens were fresh, the pickles were fantastic. We also shared a bowl of chicken dumpling soup. The soup's Act a little flavor the dumplings were large and tasty but there wasn't enough chicken flavor in the broth. read more

Having the unfortunate experience of having to be in Gurnee for something, I noticed this place and remember reading favorable Yelp reviews, so stopped in. While I'd prefer a locally owned deli, these are not to be found in "The G." Menu is pretty expansive and reasonably priced. Table orders were a King Club, a Rueben, and a chicken wrap. All had a good amount of meat on them and tasted pretty good. The staff brings your food to you and then collect your table when you are done. All were very friendly. They even brought around samples of cheesecake and it was really good. The seating area is very clean and had disco going in the background. So I'd say this place is a pretty solid entry into the Mecca of chain eateries. Five star ratings are for "cant miss" spots. If you find yourself trapped in generica, make a stop here. I love this restaurant. The food is always fresh, made to order and delicious. The sandwiches are generous in size. The potatoes are gigantic. They fresh brew their tea so it is great. I was out shopping for Christmas and came across this place. This place just opened and since I have never been to a McAlister's Deli before, I thought I would give it a look over to see what they offered. I ordered a Italian sub with Mac/cheese side and sweet tea. Very good food that was brought to the table. Restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and the staff was very friendly but professional. Also there are free refills on the sweet tea which was perfect-sweet but not crazy. I would definitely come here again to explore the menu a bit more. I think this place would be helpful to those families visiting for the nearby Navy graduations. read more

For the price you pay for this meal, there should have been so much more meat than a sprinkle. No sour cream. But they did remove the cheese and green onions like I asked. I am very disappointed. My problem with this place is that the line to order food runs right through the center of the restaurant. This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in the area. The food is consistently fantastic (I recommend the chicken caesar wrap) and the service is always fast. Every time I've been here, the employees have been very enthusiastic. And as an added bonus, the wait here is never very long, even with a long line. Oh, and did I mention free refills on all drinks? That's definitely something you should take advantage of here, especially because of how AMAZING their sweet tea is. I drink an Arnold Palmer pretty much everywhere I dine, and McAlister's half sweet tea, half lemonade beverage is arguably the best I've ever had. Seriously, try this place. The food is fine, just too expensive. The service is sub standard. Been there 3 times and will not return. The first two times were slow, but it was eat-in and it didn't really matter. The third time was a pick up. Service was unfriendly, slow, and disappointing. My order was not complete and I have contacted "corporate" 3 times with 2 written requests and a phone call and I have not heard back from them. Frankly, I am surprised that this is the case. I will not return to this location. Services is sub-par at best. My third time back, and each time they had major service issues. I understand this is a new restaurant, but they have serious issues to resolve. I went there tonight about 5pm, and I was the only person in line. There were about 3 tables occupied in the restaurant, with more people working behind the counter than there were patrons in the restaurant. You could tell they were trying to solve an order that was not correct. No one addressed me as I stood there in line, until a really young boy finally turns around and tells me someone will be with me. He then proceeds to walk into the restaurant, and felt compelled to clean off the one dirty table, as I stood there and watched him. He then returns to the counter, and rudely asks me "so, you ready to order yet", and gives me a really dirty look. LOL, comical, but I won't spend my money there anymore. I walked out and won't return. Beware. So sorry to inconvience this boy from his one table cleaning duty. read more

I like the food here; the portions and prices are reasonable. However, they have a real problem with management and staffing. To save time and minimize contact during this COVID pandemic, I always order online and go pick up the food. Up until now, no problem. Earlier this week, I got there and had to wait, even though I had logged my order more than half an hour earlier. The staff was lackadaisical and didn't want to put any pep in their step to get the orders out faster. Last night (9/17/2020), I went there and found a long line of people. I couldn't figure out what was going on; the manager was trying to tell people, but the music was so loud you couldn't hear him. I had to stay to ensure that my credit card was reimbursed. When I finally got to the front of the line, the manager told me that the entire kitchen staff had called in, the people on the previous shift refused to work overtime, and thus there was NOBODY TO MAKE THE FOOD!!! In this economy, you don't stage a walkout unless management or working conditions are pretty bad. Because this is a franchise, I went to the feedback section on the corporate website and told them they should look into mentoring or reassigning the manager. A couple of hours later, I got a voice mail. It was the manager of the Gurnee store! So, apparently McAlister's corporate has no interest in making sure their franchisees are operating above board and treating their employees fairly. I have no intention of calling back the manager, as I'm sure I would get nothing but the same lame rhetoric I got when I was there last night. VERY disappointing. read more

Have been here twice. Once for takeout. Had a club sandwich, which was 9/10, talked to a worker while I waited for my food, Maria??maybe? That was my first visit a few weeks ago. She was super nice and personable. Today I came in and order a chicken tortilla soup, 5/10, with a BLTA(minus the A), was not well put together, barely any mayo, all ingredients in a small pile in the middle. I had to rearrange the sandwich before eating, taste was 8/10 though. Ingredients seem fresh and well sliced. Best part of the experience was the cashier(for any manager reading, didn't get name but she worked around 2:30pm on March 4th, dark hair not the blonde one). Worst part was they lost my order and 30 minutes went by(first time dining in, wasn't sure if this was normal) I eventually went back and asked if they lost my order. I was nice about it as a work in food as well and understand the struggle. I wish the manager dealt with it better though. Where I work we would have comped the food and given them a complementary meal for next time as it is totally unacceptable they waited 30 minutes of their time for no reason other than we made a mistake. More importantly we would have made the customer feel like we were legitimately sorry. She did comp the food. Was not very nice though, you could tell her mind was frustrated with the chef for losing the order and that making the customer happy wasn't on the top of her mind. Again, she did comp it though and want to give them credit. Not sure I'll be coming back simply because of the customer service during this experience. I want to end on a positive note so I'll mention again how great the cashier was. She also walked around and swept, and asked people if they needed anything while the other FOH worker just played on her phone(blonde girl). read more
