I have never been to a McAlister's Deli before but it was my niece's favorite so that's why I drove from the medical center to bring her back her favorite meal. She had just had surgery for a traumatic injury so I will admit I was stressed when I arrived. I was "greeted" by the most unpleasant/unprofessional young lady I have ever encountered in the service industry. Perhaps she was having a bad day but it was clear the last place in the world she wanted to be was there. After I placed my order, I waited at the counter for well over 30 minutes. I observed this same young lady be rude to every customer that came in. I also observed what looked like one person preparing orders while other staff members seemed idle. When I asked one of them how my order was coming and explained I was in a hurry to get back to the hospital, they went and checked and said it was almost ready. When it was finally done, it was wrong! When I asked for it to be reconciled, I got huge attitude from the staff and then had to wait another 15-20 minutes for the order that was still wrong. The McAlister's Deli in The Woodlands location is apparently great according to my niece and her family but this location does not live up to the chain's reputation. Do not go to this location. The employees do not want to be there, don't care about quality, and customer service is not something they are acquainted with. If I could give negative stars, I would have! read more

I want to share my recent experience with McAlister's Deli's rewards program, which has been pretty disappointing. I had accumulated almost 2,000 points over time, mostly because I only visit occasionally when I'm really craving their chicken tortilla soup. When I finally checked the app to redeem my points, I found out they'd all been wiped out because I hadn't used them in the past year. In today's economy, with food prices rising, a lot of people save their reward points for times when money gets tight--like during the holidays when they're juggling bills, gifts, and gas. Unlike other places that let you hold on to your points, McAlister's just erases them if you don't visit often enough, which really defeats the purpose of a loyalty program for occasional customers. Overall, it's been a negative experience, and I think other customers should know that McAlister's points won't be there when you need them most. I can't recommend their rewards program under these conditions. read more

First of all i will say that the food tastes good. However, the service is HORRIBLE. Very rude staff and extremely slow service. Every little thing costs you money like plastic silverware and sauce exchanges on meals where you don't like the original sauce (or your diet prevents it). Not to mention that half the time they are out of waters and refuse to give compensation to students using meal exchanges. And today I was told "we don't have anything to give you" when i asked for something to drink instead of the waters that they were out of. RUDE STAFF!!!!! Me and my friend come in here and their POS system was down so we ordered online on GrubHub and we got a grilled chicken club and online, it didn't specify that the sandwich had bacon in it so we ordered it and then when it came, it had bacon and we were both Muslim so we couldn't eat it so we asked them if we could get another one and return the bacon one because we can't eat it and they were being extremely rude the lady asked us to show her where it said there's no bacon and we did and she was still being super rude to us and said there was nothing she could do about it cause it was apparently our fault cause we don't know what's in the chicken club sandwich then sit down to eat a different sandwich that we had and we overhear the the lady making fun of us to her coworkers and laughing about how we didn't know that the sandwich had bacon in it. My favorite place to grab lunch on campus. It's located in the Welcome Center area. A friend introduced me to this place so we always grab lunch here after class. Absolutely love their tomato basil soup in the bread bowl. So good! It's always hot and you really get an authentic tomato taste in their soup. They also have hot sandwiches, salads, and pastas. Their teas are served in a giant cup so you get your money's worth. You order at the counter and they give you a number and you can take it to your table. It's always crowded every time I come here for lunch. The place isn't that big but they have a lot of tables, booths, and outside seatings. Even still, sometimes it gets hard to find a table but people come and go pretty fast. read more

Normally a nice dinner however when I asked Natalie in the Stafford TX. location 40 minutes before closing for a take out order she was irritated and frankly rude. Wow wow wow. The sweet tea comes in such a large cup.. and for such a cheap price! And the spud max? Um.. they literally mean MAX. It's so huge and they stuff everything in there for you. It's hands down, the best baked potato I've ever had. Downfalls-- it's on the opposite end of campus.. which can be a hassle because it's like taking a journey to the other end of the world to get a good meal. The line is always super long at lunch time. Sometimes the line will be outside the door. :c The wait for your food isn't super crazy. Standard for restaurants. One of my favorite places to get food at UH! :D Whenever I finish working out at the rec, I love how McAlister's is right across the street from it so I'm not far away from a post workout meal (: There's always a good amount of people there. I always worry about whether or not I'll find a seat, but somehow I manage to find one so yay for me! This place has a pretty wide variety of things on the menu, and a good amount of them look pretty healthy too! I'll try them all one day, but for now I'm stuck on the smokey pepper jack turkey panini and their mac&cheese. Their salads and soups are great too! And don't forget to top it off with their sweet tea! All the cashiers are so nice. They greet you when you walk in and say goodbye when you walk out. And they let you know ahead of time what they ran out of on the menu for the day. I couldn't really ask for anything more of this place except offer a smaller size for sweet tea! When it comes to sandwiches I like it plain and simple so I went with the most basic thing on the menu, the Ham & Cheese Griller. You get a pickle and choice of side along with your order. Judging by everyone sitting in the dining area, the strawberry lemonade was a favorite so I added that to my order. It was sweet and not watered down so I enjoy it aside my sandwich. It's similar to a Panera Bread just more convenient for UH students. A side note; my friend ordered a sandwich with Guac and they completely forgot to add it in. Make sure you double check your order when served so the waiter can fix it, otherwise you'll have to try and get the attention of another and that can be hard. read more

I always order either the chicken tortilla soup, grilled chicken caesar salad (with the substitution of balsamic vinaigrette), and the spicy southwest chicken griller. Chicken Tortilla Soup-- A bit too salty, but I love the hotness & spice you can taste on a cold day. It flavors extremely well with the spicy southwest chicken griller because of course, they are both spicy! The "SSWCG" has avocado, roasted corn, and spicy chicken in it, so of course with tortilla chips from the chicken tortilla soup? It works out perfectly! You have a fiesta going on! (extremely corny) Though, here we have a climax. The lettuce is not so fresh in the salad as you can see from the ends, the dressing tastes delicious, but, on different occasions. This is what upset me. 1) They forgot to put the chicken in my salad & 2) I found a LADYBUG in my salad. Ridiculous, indeed. read more

Location, location, location! This place is healthier and tastier than most other UH campus dining options and the food is satisfactory but not remarkable. Oh and of course the huge $2 ice tea doesn't hurt! I'm a fan of the pepper-jack turkey wrap. It regularly comes as a sandwich but like with most everything, you can switch it into a wrap. I get the impression that most of the servers are students so their commitment to above-and-beyond service isn't really there but meh, what do you expect for a meal under $10. Great if you're on campus and looking for something reliable and tasty to eat. All that said, their catering service is way better than dining in. read more

With the UC (the food hub of UH) currently under renovation, us college students have only a few options for dining on campus: 1) walk our sorry butts all the way across campus to the Satellite or Chinese Star, 2) pay $8 at the food trucks for a plate of trans fat, or 3) go to McAlister's. Honestly, I choose option #3. McAlister's offers a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, desserts, and of course their famous sweet tea!I've had several meals here and I usually go for the "choose two" deal, where you get a cup of soup and a 1/2 a salad or sandwich for $7. I love the broccoli and cheddar soup from here. It's really the bomb. The southwest chicken salad is also a favorite of mine. Yeah, it's not the healthiest salad you can eat, but it's much better than fast food. Another thing I like about their salads is they come in huge portions, so you feel you get your money's worth. Most of the meals are around $7-8 each, which is not bad in my opinion. Make sure to get the sweet tea ($2) with free refills! It does get super crowded during lunch, so plan accordingly. All in all, McAlister's is one of my go-to lunch spots on campus. read more

It has a similar feeling to Jason's deli with a large variety of sandwich choices. If you are not in the mood for a sandwich they have spuds, nachos and other items to choose from. One of the must haves here is the sweet tea. I can say that I am addicted to the stuff as a result of coming here. I haven't had a sandwich from here I don't like. McAlisters is the best food on the UH campus hands down. There are horrible choices for eateries on campus, so there isnt really a whole lot of competition.. but there might be problems for people that arent students. One of them being parking, you cant park anywhere without paying, unless your considering the free 30min. parking in the garage... As for the food, its really fresh and made to order, they have wonderful sides to choose from and a friendly staff. One huge reccomendation I have.... GET ICE TEA i honestly think the Ice-Tea at Mcalisters is one of the best i've ever had. read more

Welterweight bout: Murphy's versus McAlister's McAlister's is good, consistent, and a much larger restaurant space than Murphy's. Murphy's strikes me as more of the "Chipotle alternative" because their food I would venture is a tad more "unhealthy" in the lets-eat-a-big-old-meal fashion, while McAlister's strikes me as a sincere "Panera Bread alternative" because it seems like the place you genuinely come if you want to "eat healthy" in the soup, salad, and panini way. It is more of an attitude I suppose because I order the burrito religiously at Murphy's yet I only order one of the salads here. McAlister's also strikes me as more of a "let's meet for lunch" place while Murphy's is more of a "bring my laptop to study after I eat" sort of place. The employees at Murphy's are more straightforward just-order and move along please sort of people. McAlister's employees are warm and friendly people, every time I have been in they are always nice people behind the counter and when they bring the food to your table. And lastly, McAlister's has much more attractive employees than Murphy's which is the most important factor, just being honest, to consider if you are facing those two options for lunch.
