Informative which was great for this being a first time visit. Thank you for my large vanilla and strawberry Fruity pebble milkshake. I LOVE every bit of it. He provided a spoon and a straw. It was thick and creamy well balanced ice cream shake. We order a few small meals, that included: Loaded chicken fries Buffalo Mac & cheese loaded fries Chicken slider sandwich. Everything was really good. The chicken fries really came with 3 chicken bites on top of the fries, with the sauce. The buffalo Mac and cheese loaded fries came with the same 3 chicken bites, which are the size of chick fil a mini chicken bites. I did feel like a little more love could've been given on the chicken bites count- (like 4 bites), and a little more love on the Mac and cheese amount to balance the fries a little more. If I could leave zero stars, I would. The service here is absolutely horrible. Where to start... As I was waiting in line, one of the customers was trying to change their order (as they were placing it). The cash needed the managers help for something and the manager told her "I don't have time for this sh#t." Then at the close out of my order I was entering my phone number for the rewards and the cashier cleared the screen. When I told her I was entering my number she just gave me this "so?" type of look. After 20 min of watching people who ordered after me get their food, I asked if they could check on my order as other orders were coming out before mine. I was given attitude and told "I am just handing out what comes out." Then it looked like they realized they marked my order as complete or something because it was no longer on the screen. A few minutes later my order was magically ready. After all of that, the chicken wasn't even that good. Only good thing was the pickles. Very crispy and fresh tasting! I'm honestly not a huge fan of hot chicken, but my friends wanted to try Dave's Hot Chicken. So we went, and to my surprise, I was glad that we did! They sure weren't kidding about the heat. I ordered the loaded fries mild version, and they had a bit of a kick to them. Then again, I don't have a high spice tolerance. But the chicken was so flavorful that I ended up enjoying it. The tenders in #1 meal were also pretty big. The ambiance and service weren't anything special. There's a tiny lot that they share with Velvet Taco available. There's also paid street parking available along with garage parking throughout Rice Village that's complimentary for the first 2 hours. Probably the best hot chicken chain in Houston flavor-wise. I come here all of the time and it's always tasty, but the spice levels are inconsistent so watch out because sometimes the extra hot is too hot or not hot enough. There's usually a long line full of students so be prepared if you're going late at night. There is always plenty of parking behind the restaurant if there's not enough spots in the shared lot with Velvet Taco. read more

The line stretched out the door but it moved very fast. I got my slider within about 15 minutes after I came, which is not bad. They also provide some extra Dave's sauce, honey, and hot sauce if you want any. The slider was pretty good overall but I got medium spice and that thing was like a mega mild. Going in on the HOTTEST level "REAPER"!! That chicken was more than fire it was hot lava! The shake helped cut the heat but Mann I was lit up. The food came out quick and correct so that was nice. Next time I'll stick to my regular hot but you should all try it at least once!! read more

Dave's hot chicken has such a good balance of spice and flavor to me. I order the hot and I think it is the perfect amount of spice that I am looking for when I want hot chicken. I usually order the 1 slider meal, which is a perfect portion. At the counter, I ask for honey packets. The honey drizzled on top of the tender adds a little sweetness to balance out the spice and it is just chef's kiss. I like dipping their fries in the Dave's sauce, and the fries stay crispy throughout the duration of my meal. My only complaint sometimes is the inconsistency of the spice, sometimes it is a little light or heavy handed. But in general, I have had good experiences. read more

Great chicken and the spice delivered! Came by right after work for a meal that would warm me up on a cooler night this Fall, and was pleasantly surprised. Tenders are on the larger size compared to average. Slider with pickles, Dave's sauce, and a tender inside. The chicken itself was incredibly juicy and tender. Deep fried of course, but felt light. The vibes inside the restaurant were great but the outdoor covered patio takes the cake. Love the option to sit outside. I unfortunately carried out this time though. If you like spicy foods, or hot chicken for that matter, this place is no joke. The Reaper flavor (pictured) isn't for the faint of heart, and a nice shake or a glass of milk is likely required. Service is quick and the staff is friendly. The fries are lightly seasoned and have a nice crunch. Fluffy on the inside but had a few dry bits. Wished the portion of fries was a bit more also. I refuse to be bias when it comes to (hot) fried chicken but I am officially bias to Dave's Hot Chicken until shown otherwise. Personally, the texture was beyond par. This may be due to the fact that it's not overly sauced and closer to seeming like it was rubbed seasoning on the chicken tenders itself, which we were huge fans of. Furthermore, the flavor was absolutely heavenly. It was a mixture of what seemed like light curry and a whole lot of seasonings I could not place. The light sweetness on the bread was a treat on top of it! It's not as overwhelming as it sounds for the non-curry lovers and let's just blame it on my immature palate. The fries were so crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, the perfect fries in my book. The seasoning on the fries, alongside the "cajun mayo" concoction that they provide in the sandwiches and as a dipping sauce, just made me the happiest kid in Texas. The gluttony monster took over. At the end of the day, we decided after one bite that we are coming back for as many cheat meals we can have in the future. We stared at the menu, trying to game plan for our next visit, and officially decided that the "family style" meals were certainly not worth sharing the love to our families. Dave's Hot Chicken 10/10 would recommend! We liked it so much we went 2 weeks in a row. It's definitely a place we'll add to the regular rotation when we're in Houston. The chicken is soooo good, the spices & the crisp is chefs kiss. I'm a sauce girl, the sauce is good but by itself could be better. But the chickens so good it makes up for the lack of flavor in the sauce. VERY friendly staff, you're greeted as soon as you walk in. Clean facility, including the bathroom. This place was really good! The Dave bites were delicious and fresh. We got hot on these and it was like a dry spicy and definitely makes you sweat. The fries were so good and we got medium spicy on those. I really liked the whole mix, but I wish there was more coleslaw. The pickle slices were also huge and really good. As someone who loves buldak ramen, I would say extra hot is a little spicier than buldak, and if you order reaper, they'll ask you to sign a waiver. But there are days when extra hot isn't as spicy as I wish it was. Vibe 7/10 - it's your typical fast food restaurant. I finally tried Dave's Hot Chicken! Walking in, I noticed that the cashier was doing alot. She was the only one up front taking orders, grabbing them from the counter and handing them out. Even though she was the only one, she was upbeat and friendly and kept things moving, even though there was a steady stream of people coming in. Unfortunately, it took over 20 minutes for me to get my food and I watched people get their food in 5-10, so that was dissappointing. Shout out to the staff though, because it was busy and it seemed like they were short staffed trying to get all the orders out as fast as they could! I ordered the slider-medium heat and overall, I liked the chicken flavor. It was a bit more savory than it was spicy, however, they give honey as a condiment and that was definitely a compliment to the salty/spicyness of the chicken. The bun was too small as well - the bread itself was great! Just not enough of if to cover the enormous chicken finger. Also, it was super soft so by the end of the sandwich, it was kinda mushy. I was excited at the end of the meal when I got to get a free milkshake for checking in! Been wanting to try this place for a while now. And finally decided to do it. Parking is free for 2 hours in a garage on the other side of Rice Village on Morningside Dr just south of Times Blvd. But a bit of a walk. It was nice outside though so I didn't mind. Seemed to get a lot of rice students and they give a discount to them (15% I believe). Do a checkin on Yelp and you'll get a free soda or shake. Went for the chocolate shake. I think it's all from the same dispenser so I kinda got a vanilla tasting chocolate shake. It was ok but I'd probably get just a soda next time and save the calories for the chicken. So I Got the #3 to try both the slider and tender. I didn't want to do a repeat of my experience at Hattie Mae where I got the Shut The Cluck Up spice level and couldn't sit straight for a week. So I asked what spice level they recommended and they said medium. It's about the same heat as a McDonalds spicy chicken burger I'd say. Good for white people. But for us Asians I'd definitely say go higher if you want to feel something. Their Dave sauce is a bit sweet and reminded me of thousand island dressing. Not a big fan. Actually I'd suggest the tenders over the burger as it's more meat. The tender inside the slider was smaller and kept falling out of the bun whenever I picked it up to take a bite. This hot chicken place is amazing. The chicken was cooked perfectly: no dry parts, all moist. The spiciness is addicting. I got the 2 tenders with fries combo. The fries didn't need sauce at all; they almost remind me of Rally's fries. You're able to change the level of spiciness of the chicken. I chose very hot (one level down from the max), and it makes me want to try the max spiciness level. Although it was very spicy, it never crossed the point where it was so spicy I couldn't eat the chicken. Maybe they could use more sauces, but the one I got goes well with the spicy chicken. The restaurant is on the smallish side with about 10 tables crammed onto one side. The tables were pretty tight and I witnessed people trying to squeeze between them to pick up their food from the counter. The menu is short and easy to navigate. The food came out within ten minutes and it was fresh and hot. While I finished all of my food, the flavor of the chicken was odd enough that I would only go back if I didn't have other options. This place is deee-lish. I've visited twice now with my friends who love coming here for halal hot chicken. I was curious to try hot chicken since I hadn't tried it before Dave's, but let's just say Dave's was a great first experience. The chicken is gloriously crispy and I ordered the medium level which was just right for me - a modest level of spice while still being able to taste the chicken. I tried a bit of my friend's hot-spice level chicken and it was pretty spicy - a good tongue-burning level but you're not quite as able to appreciate the other flavors of the sandwich. I love the pairing with pickles and the cole slaw, and the bun is always puffed to just the right level. I've tried their fries and they're pretty decent as well. One of the best part of Dave's is their amazing sauce - seriously, the flavor is to die for. I love dipping the fries in it and also dousing my chicken sandwich in it. The slider was kind of small but the chicken was super flavorful and the tart pickle cut it well. I do think the sliders were pricey given the size, but I was pretty full afterwards. Finally checked Dave's Hot Chicken off of my bucket list recently, but was a bit let down with the experience. My Dave's combo was fresh and zesty, but the spice was really light. As a former Nashville resident, I realize that in hot chicken it's hard to please everyone with your spice levels -- but as a fan of the mild side, I found that the medium tenders barely had any heat. There were still three milder spice levels, so I can't imagine what those taste like! Dave's sauce was a pleasant pairing, but it would be nice to see a sauce made fresh on-site instead of packaged in hard-to-open packets. The Dave's team was working hard, but they were very understaffed, so the restaurant was pretty dirty. While a number of indoor tables were open, none were clean. Dave's doesn't put out utensils -- they're only available by request, which was frustrating given that the ordering line was long and hot chicken can be pretty messy on your fingers. With okay food, and a weak experience, it was hard to get too excited about this trip to Dave's. Still, there's a lot of promise here. I'd like to visit one of their other locations in the future and see if this outing was an outlier. read more

We stopped by Dave's for dinner tonight and had a great first experience! My fiancé & I shared the Dave's #2 (two sliders with fries) and added on both an extra tender and a side of mac & cheese. We got the chicken at the "hot" level, which I thought had just the right amount of spice. I also really appreciated how the chicken was very crispy without being greasy. We both really liked the Dave's sauce, and we also tried the honey that came on our tray and thought it went super well with the chicken. I felt like the fries were above average with the Dave's sauce, while the mac & cheese was about average (still delicious)! The service here was great, and there is seating both inside and outside. Our only complaint would be that it was a bit expensive for the amount of food, but it was actually cheaper than some of the other hot chicken places in Houston. I was happy to see this place finally open and to give it a try! It had been under construction for a while and passing by it always made my mouth water lol. ATMOSPHERE: This place has a really chill and trendy vibe. Good amount of indoor seating, and they have some outdoor seating. The place felt really clean and well-maintained which was nice! I would definitely recommend the slider over the tender since the plain flavor of the tender didn't compare to the combination of the chicken, Dave's sauce, slaw, and pickles in the slider. I thought the "hot" level was pretty spicy, so if you want a more mild experience I'd go lower than that. The fries were great, they were crispy and went well with the Dave's sauce (spicy mayo-like sauce) that came with the meal. SERVICE: Really good. Everyone was so nice, and the food came out quickly. They had people roaming the floors too to ask how the food is and if anything else is needed, too. PRICE/VALUE: Price is definitely comparable to other hot chicken places in Houston, but I felt like the amount of food wasn't proportionate to the price (basically any meal has 2 tenders worth of chicken for $11-13, plus a small amount of fries). Of note, I liked that you could get a slider on its own for ~$6. Overall is this the best hot chicken place in Houston? No, probably not. I've seen so many great reviews about this place and finally got the chance to try them out while on vacation in Houston this past weekend. I loved every bit of it! The freshness of the made to order food to the pickles. I loved it so much I had to go back the next day. To say the menu is pretty basic it reminds me of canes if they had spicy chicken options and I love canes. Now since I'm back home I've been craving Dave's! This spot was recommended so we decided to give them a try on a Tuesday around 8:30. A couple of tables occupied so they weren't busy. Cozy space with a couple of tables outside. They have the option of getting chicken tenders or Sliders. I would say the Slider portion is somewhere between a Slider and regular sandwich. I wasn't very hungry and one was perfect. They have seven spice levels which Is the most I've seen so far. All of us ordered Sliders with mostly mild heat levels. I ordered a Hot level Slider expecting to have some heat given it was only one level away from the Reaper (spiciest.) Although the tender was well seasoned, perfectly fried and tasty I didn't get any of the spicy. Fries were pretty good despite not being hand cut. Service was friendly and our order took about 10 minutes. They had a check in offer-free soft drink or milkshake which was a nice rouch. Strawberry milkshake was rich and thick and was enjoyed. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 1:00 PM, hoping for a quick order to go. 2x Sliders with Fries Combo ($13.99) - 3.75/5 Two Chick-fil-A size sandwiches with a Small-Medium quantity of fries. The dry rub comes on both the chicken and fries. Chicken: Sizeable and well flavored with their dry rub. Good smokiness to it. Fries: Crinkle cut, standard. Medium spice: slight hint of spice, about the same as a Chick-fil-A spicy chicken. Hot spice: noticeable heat but nothing over the edge. Thing I did not like about the Hot is that it is a lot saltier than the Medium. They just add more dry rub, which includes salt in that mixture so it seems you can't get more heat without more saltiness. Value: Average value with respect to quality/quantity. Note: When we came in at 1:00 PM, there were 4 folks ahead of us in line. Staff was jammed with taking orders from DoorDash and in store customers so the service was very slow. After about 15 minutes waiting in line, one of the guys in front of us left the line. I ended up getting my food at 2:15 PM, despite being the 4th guy in line. Food & service was fast! I believe they fried our chicken once we got there, so food was fresh & didn't take too long. I really liked their crinkle cut fries! They were crispy and potatoey inside. The tenders were large & juicy with a light crispy batter coated in spices & seasoning. I wish the chicken itself had flavor, it didn't taste like it had been marinated.
