Soup spilled next to my dressingless salad

This was how my food came. I guess it could be the robots fault, and at least my salad was fine. But then they forgot my salad dressing as well.

Always love McAlisters. Visited Texas recently and was so surprised when this place was next to where I was working. The guy who helped me was super nice and approachable, we had good banter. The food was a step above as usual. I got the Italian sandwich with a side of potato salad. Delicious!

My favorite place to grab lunch on campus. It's located in the Welcome Center area. A friend introduced me to this place so we always grab lunch here after class. Absolutely love their tomato basil soup in the bread bowl. So good! It's always hot and you really get an authentic tomato taste in their soup. They also have hot sandwiches, salads, and pastas. Their teas are served in a giant cup so you get your money's worth. You order at the counter and they give you a number and you can take it to your table. It's always crowded every time I come here for lunch. The place isn't that big but they have a lot of tables, booths, and outside seatings. Even still, sometimes it gets hard to find a table but people come and go pretty fast.

I asked without honey mustard but there's honey mustard and it's hard to get over the taste when it overpowers everything

I go here often and this is the second time they've gotten my order wrong. I made sure to tell her what to remove and she even repeated it to me. next time I'll make sure not to leave without checking if they actually listened.

New FAVORITE sandwich shop!!!! Thanks to Stephanie Netz for recommending McAlister's to me! DELICIOUS New Yorker! TERRIFIC Tortilla soup! Neat, spotless, quiet! Incredible VALUE! I hate when sandwich shops put a BALL of meat on your bread, roll, or bun, then cut out in half to make it APPEAR as if it's STACKED, when in reality, you really have nothing! Won't mention names, but it rhymes with PANERA... The manager, Vashon, told me that every bite of a sandwich should always taste the same, so everything on their sandwiches are even and level. No "trickery" here and insulting my intelligence. Great soups also! High quality! Great portions! Good price!

    Yummy!

Wow wow wow. The sweet tea comes in such a large cup.. and for such a cheap price! And the spud max? Um.. they literally mean MAX. It's so huge and they stuff everything in there for you. It's hands down, the best baked potato I've ever had. Downfalls-- it's on the opposite end of campus.. which can be a hassle because it's like taking a journey to the other end of the world to get a good meal. The line is always super long at lunch time. Sometimes the line will be outside the door. :c The wait for your food isn't super crazy. Standard for restaurants. And um, free refills on the Sweet Tea. :3 So yummy. My roommate said that her tea was watered down and it was replaced! Very very good service.

One of my favorite places to get food at UH! :D Whenever I finish working out at the rec, I love how McAlister's is right across the street from it so I'm not far away from a post workout meal (: There's always a good amount of people there. I always worry about whether or not I'll find a seat, but somehow I manage to find one so yay for me! This place has a pretty wide variety of things on the menu, and a good amount of them look pretty healthy too! I'll try them all one day, but for now I'm stuck on the smokey pepper jack turkey panini and their mac&cheese. Their salads and soups are great too! And don't forget to top it off with their sweet tea! All the cashiers are so nice. They greet you when you walk in and say goodbye when you walk out. And they let you know ahead of time what they ran out of on the menu for the day. I couldn't really ask for anything more of this place except offer a smaller size for sweet tea! I really feel guilty downing a bigass cup of it on my own so I either share with a friend or just stick with water. :[

I used to love this place, until they put freaking wheat bread in the middle of a sandwich I ordered gluten free.

It was warm and humid inside (Texas summer is mostly to blame). That said, the handful of whites that I sampled were not very chilled. Kinda defeated the purpose of getting a refreshing chenin blanc or rose. And a lot of the tasting notes were not available above the bottles. By the time my friend made her way through the tastings, she had already spent $20+. They also charge a 20% auto-grat. Not a fan of that percentage for self-serve and counter service (you have to order food at the register). We ended up going to Mimo down the street to sit at the bar, taste complimentary samples, and then order a full glass. I'll still go back to Roots but have kinda lowered my expectations of the wine selection and value. Some of the novelty has worn off. Good news is that their food is still solid: loved the mushroom toast and ricotta toast last I tried it.

We came on a Friday after work and it was packed! Parking lot full (they do valet as well) but we found street parking. Walking in, it was lively and fun and we were luckily sat at the bar. Our bartender, Robert, was awesome and really took care of us. He gave us a rundown on drinks, food, etc. We essentially ordered one of every item on the HH food menu except the plantain and dip (which we'll have to do next time). Their happy hour food menu is essentially a tasting menu, smaller bowls of their main dishes with some apps and test items. There wasn't an item I didn't like but the golden and the fried chicken bites were 2 standouts for me. The golden has perfectly seasoned and grilled chicken with a curry sauce, rice, and plantains. The mixture of textures and flavors is just great on the palate and each bite can be a little different keeping it interesting. Drink-wise, I tried the musa mule, redbush sidecar, and OGA palmer (NA). I really enjoyed the redbush sidecar, it was bright but still had the earthiness of a darker liquor. The musa mule was alright, I thought it was refreshing but not my favorite drink. The OGA palmer was also super refreshing and great if you don't want any alcohol. Overall, I really enjoyed ChopnBlok and am so glad its so close to me now. Happy hour or not, it seems like a great spot to eat, drink, and chill.

Despite how packed and busy it was, the bartenders were super attentive throughout our entire visit. I ordered the following: 1. Coconut Chicken Bites: There was barely any coconut flavor. I would say this appetizer can be skipped as there was nothing particularly special about it. 2. Golden Bowl: Super delicious and easily the best dish I had here. Every bite was packed with so much flavor. I would definitely order this again! 3. Greens & Tings: This had a very smoky flavor, and the chicken was incredibly soft, tender, and tasty. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this restaurant, especially since it was my first time having West African cuisine.

I asked to have it changed out for the lobster & grits...instead of having the meal expedited due to the poor quality of the item originally ordered...it was put in que with all orders of the restaurant causing a severe delay in receiving my food. The rest of our party had eaten and fully finished and my reorder never came. I decided to cancel my order so that we could leave. My husband ordered food, received half his order. Had to remind the waitress of the missing main dish. My son ordered a soda and had to wait over 10 min to receive after reminding the waitress he never received it. Family friend requested a substituted item and had to remind the waitress after receiving his food that the item wasn't substituted out like asked. Take note that none of the protein we had has any flavor...just the breading and sauces. (Lobster, burger, chicken). The passion fruit mimosa had no hint of flavor...it tastes like we drank a cheap bottle of champagne. No quality water available...we were approached initially with tap water bottled in a glass bottle like it was filtered. When we asked for mineral or sparkling water...they were out (this was shortly after opening) Only had Ozarka (in a plastic bottle). Too much back and forth for a $250+ bill. Then you automatically add 18% grat when honestly it wasn't worth it. We've paid less for much better service and quality of food. Proceed with caution.
