McAlister's is good if you know what to get. Their tea is the best tea you an get. I like their French dip. Their potato salad is top notch.

We arrived at lunch (1PM) on a busy Saturday and were greeted by a somewhat frazzled server who…read moreoffered to seat us at the bar or we could wait for a table. We opted for bar seating and had water brought to us while we scanned the expansive drink menu. In addition to the signature cocktails, there is a variety of hard liquor, an amazing amount of whiskey, wine, (both red and white) as well as an impressive draft beer menu. It should be noted that there's a whiskey flight for $20 and you get a 1 ounce pour of each whiskey. It looks like there are seven on offer for this special. We didn't try it so cannot offer any more insights on that. We ordered the January gumbo special"Baby Duck Gumbo" - mine as is with chicken and sausage for $9 ( interestingly with okra which is only ever found in seafood gumbo ... at least in Louisiana) and the other with the addition of shrimp for $5 more. We asked for the saltines to be left off as we don't like to waste food and aren't fans of these old school standards. We split the brisket melt on marbled rye instead of Texas toast and left off the American cheese too... yeah we're *those* people... the sandwich comes with a choice of house seasoned fries or potato chips and we ordered the fries. The order arrived together (sigh). I would have preferred the gumbo to come first, then the sandwich, but hey, my mistake I guess I *should've* said something. Of course, I thought it was common sense that it should come in two courses instead of altogether. ... On a brighter not the order came just as we had requested and was a nice presentation. The gumbo was hearty and had plenty of protein albeit more rice than I would've liked. NOTE: if you are not an okra fan, beware. Both of us are good with okra so it was not a problem, but they do have plenty of okra in this gumbo. My dining partner said to skip the $5 add on of shrimp because although they are plentiful, they lack flavor. The sandwich is a decent size and was very tasty too and we both gave it a thumbs up. The fries were still hot and had a nice subtle flavor. Overall we'd give this roadhouse feeling, zany atmosphered little joint on the corner of Old West Point Rd and University a recommendation. The servers could use a refresher on how to greet guests and checking on them at least once during the meal :/ (1 star deduction) Oh, hey, they also have ample outdoor seating which is pet friendly for well behaved dogs.

I ate here at least 15 times since the first review and became my go to date night with my lady. I'd like to say I love the environment and good beer. Then it popped up when I was looking for fast food places around here one night last week, so I went then and had a good experience. Today was my second time going to this location (third time EVER going to any Jersey Mike's), and I again had a good experience that I think is worth noting. Yes, Jersey Mike's is a little pricey, but the food is amazing with even better service. I walked in there wanting to get something different from what I got last week, and the girl who took my order was so helpful and offered a specific sandwich that fit my mood. While they were making my sandwich, the staff was eager to answer questions and was prepared to give suggestions concerning, in this case, the pepper relish (which was great!). "Oh yeah that's really good and would go well with mayonnaise." She was right! Again, I don't know if Jersey Mike's is new to Starkville, but this place is amazing and my new favorite place to get a sandwich (former fave was Jimmy John's). Their customer service is impressive and the reason for this review. I'll be stopping by consistently this semester in hopes that they maintain their high standards.

So if you like the crusty Italian bread subs this may not be the place for you. It prob will not be somewhere I frequent at all. But nice for a change up. I did pick up and service was great. Customer service: spot on great experience…read more Food: it was ok. The Mexican salad was watery and a strange consistency. Presentation/delivery: this was ordered several weeks in advance as a catering order to be picked up. I chose the specific salads, sweet treats, and crackers and chips. I understood that everything would be on a platter ready to lay out on the table for the meeting I was hosting. Sweet treats would be cut and arranged on a platter. I selected all of the specific items I wanted abd prepaid. Fast forward to pick up day. The order wasnt ready. When i showed up, staff was scrambling to put the order together. They pulled the salads that I ordered from the refrigerator, cut the sweet treats bars (although they didn't have any of the bars I ordered), and threw everything in bags. Not only I didn't get what i ordered, but it wasn't presented as expected. There was no point in ordering ahead--I still had to wait. Then I had to go to the office and arrange everything on serving platters. So completely frustrating. Outcome: will not return.

Jacob P. Was our server and he was awesome. He explained the menu to us and gave us feedback on what he would recommend of the options we gave. He was constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the chips and queso. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Just your normal chips and queso. I had the catfish lagniappe and it was SUPERB! I loved the blackened catfish over the grits with the yummy crawfish sauce. The flavor combinations were on point and I throughly enjoyed every single bite! My husband had the Caribbean steak and really loved the flavor of the steak, but it was cooked a little more than the medium he asked for. The flavor made up for it though and he cleaned his plate. We both had the honey bacon brussel sprouts which were very tender and tasty as well. Pro tip, make sure to get all the yummy sauce that settles in the bottom. My son had the chicken Alfredo pasta along with a Caesar salad and he enjoyed his as well. If you're ever in the Starkville area, I highly recommend you give this place a try.
