In that time, I've developed a soft spot for Reuben sandwiches and have enjoyed them in more than 10 states. It took me two tries and three trips around the block to finally find The Older Brother, but the effort was absolutely worth it. I think I've found one of the finest Reubens I've ever eaten. A beautiful, fresh marbled rye held finely shredded corned beef, juicy sauerkraut, and their special dressing. It was one of the juiciest--and yes, messiest--Reubens I've ever had, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I even sent my compliments to the chef. The trendy little café, with its wide-open windows and bright, airy feel, made it seem like outdoor dining on a beautiful day. Service was friendly, attentive, and right on time. We asked for the saltines to be left off as we don't like to waste food and aren't fans of these old school standards. We split the brisket melt on marbled rye instead of Texas toast and left off the American cheese too... yeah we're *those* people... the sandwich comes with a choice of house seasoned fries or potato chips and we ordered the fries. The order arrived together (sigh). I would have preferred the gumbo to come first, then the sandwich, but hey, my mistake I guess I *should've* said something. Of course, I thought it was common sense that it should come in two courses instead of altogether. ... On a brighter not the order came just as we had requested and was a nice presentation. The gumbo was hearty and had plenty of protein albeit more rice than I would've liked. NOTE: if you are not an okra fan, beware. Both of us are good with okra so it was not a problem, but they do have plenty of okra in this gumbo. My dining partner said to skip the $5 add on of shrimp because although they are plentiful, they lack flavor. The sandwich is a decent size and was very tasty too and we both gave it a thumbs up. The fries were still hot and had a nice subtle flavor. Overall we'd give this roadhouse feeling, zany atmosphered little joint on the corner of Old West Point Rd and University a recommendation. The servers could use a refresher on how to greet guests and checking on them at least once during the meal :/ (1 star deduction) Oh, hey, they also have ample outdoor seating which is pet friendly for well behaved dogs.

Then it popped up when I was looking for fast food places around here one night last week, so I went then and had a good experience. Today was my second time going to this location (third time EVER going to any Jersey Mike's), and I again had a good experience that I think is worth noting. Yes, Jersey Mike's is a little pricey, but the food is amazing with even better service. I walked in there wanting to get something different from what I got last week, and the girl who took my order was so helpful and offered a specific sandwich that fit my mood. While they were making my sandwich, the staff was eager to answer questions and was prepared to give suggestions concerning, in this case, the pepper relish (which was great!). "Oh yeah that's really good and would go well with mayonnaise." She was right! Again, I don't know if Jersey Mike's is new to Starkville, but this place is amazing and my new favorite place to get a sandwich (former fave was Jimmy John's). Their customer service is impressive and the reason for this review. I'll be stopping by consistently this semester in hopes that they maintain their high standards.

As soon as we asked for gluten free buns the man taking our order immediately started groaning and complaining about having to do an allergen free order. This already made us feel uncomfortable, but we continued on. Then the same man asked another employee to make the meal and they agreed until he told them it was an order with an allergy. This employee complained and groaned too. It was extremely disrespectful. Especially when I know my family members would LOVE to be able to eat gluten and not have to be selective about restaurants they eat at. We find a place that is SUPPOSED TO BE accommodating, but instead left ashamed. They also proceeded to tell us after all the moaning and groaning that they only had one gluten free bun available.... So after we were made to feel bad then we were disappointed because it was all for nothing. They knew we had two gluten free orders when they started complaining... go and complain in the back all you want, but do not sit there and make someone feel small because they cant eat bread and you have to clean the equipment. Also just to add, the tables were covered in crumbs and food particles. Someone's personal Tostitos chips and salsa were left out open on one of the tables. Mind you it's 3 pm. This isn't a lunch rush time. The whole experience was awful. We love Jersey mikes, just not this one....
