Belchertownies only. They'll give you funny looks if you don't live there even if you're with regulars. Decent selection on draft for what it is. Food is mediocre bar usuals. I didn't really get too much of an Irish vibe except the handful of shamrocks. That's a fun game I'll have to play next time, find all the shamrocks. read more

Monday night trivia is a lot of fun at McCarthy's. Beer and drinks are reasonably priced, waitstaff is great and super friendly. pizza, fries, and ruben are very good. I ordered a burger once and it was over cooked, granted it was super busy and it's amazing that they can feed everyone in the place with the very small kitchen. read more

Two of us, our first time here. Started off good. Seafood chowder=delicious. Reuben egg roll=delicious. But the soup and the app came out separately. Why?? We both had prime rib, one mash, one baked. Both dishes were ice cold. I asked for jus on the side. I got some kind of old, congealed, very dark brown gravy. No jus to be seen, Both prime ribs were cold and chewy. Not good at all. I had hope it would be excellent based on the soup and the app but this place was just a big disappointment. It took forever for our dinner to come...maybe it sat there and that's why it was icy?? They comped one of the meals but still. Oh and when we walked in, some drunk woman fell on her ass in front of us and nobody paid any attention to her at all. Neither of us could get on the free wifi. The waitress was nice but I'm pretty sure she's the reason why the food was cold. She was counting a register. All in all, the place looks dirty. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon my family wanted to try the food here. I tried to find a parking spot. The place was loaded with LOUD revving motorcycles, no parking available due to the way the bikers parked. Handicap spaces were filled with bikes. Totally unfit environment for my family. Loud, obnoxious drinking bikers ruined a wonderful spring day for my family and myself. Their reputation suffers with allowing this kind of behavior. I've been here 3 times and 3 times it sucked. First time, cold food that took an hour and a half to get. Second time, wasn't bad but the food was meh. Third time was hell in a handbasket. I arrived and met up with my friend at 430 we ordered the Rubin egg roll Very good at 445 we decided we have the prime rib the waitress told us it wouldn't be ready until 500 we said we were ok with waiting what the waitress should of said was I will put your order in at 500 we still would of been ok with that....but what happens turns into a nightmare,our food came out of the kitchen 505 my girlfriend s rib was ok but mine ...after ordering an end cut was mooing not seeing my waitress a very sweet girl said you look like you need something I told her the problem and she said she would take care of it she brought it back ten minute s later and it was perfect here's where the nightmare begins: my girlfriend was upset because she was now done with her meal and this was supposed to be my birthday dinner.. When the waitress finally came back my girlfriend expressed her distress.. Our waitress told us "I told you the prime rib was not going to be ready till 500 I put the order in at 445." My girl friend ask the waitress could you give us a little discount, " my meals finished and she hasn't started", the waitress then tell my girlfriend to get out of her seat and come look at the register because she put it in at 445 and basically thats our fault finally she agrees to get fresh veggies to have with the rib but no discount the waitress was getting very short. My girlfriend became mad she wondered why it was our fault the waitress put the order in right away if she new it should be in at 500. The very sweet waitress comes to the table and asks if now every thing is better my girlfriend tells her she is very upset on how the waitress handles things and says to her I really feel I should get a little discount she was not look for a comp just a little I'm sorry and she ask for the manager.... And her comes our waitress tell me why a manager is serving tables and tell me why a manager is arguing with customers? A manager should be maintaining balance of their dinning room ,looking for the people that are looking around the dinning room for the waitress keeping everyone happy. This lady came to our table in a huff and said im not giving you a discount you put your order in too early. I couldn't say anything thing I'm not one for confrontations and this lady was just being rude. After she glared at my girlfriend, my girlfriend new shades I've never seen and she told her I'm not leaving till I get one. The manager stormed off and told someone in the back room you deal with them! Wow! So out comes the older lady with long wavy hair very nice she knelt next to us and very nicely ask us to explain what happen, mean while we are talking, the manager comes and throws my veggies at me and rudely says here's your double veggies and storms away! Again wow! This manager needs to be retrained what the neck was that... The Reuben is DELICIOUS!!!!! I love the atmosphere of this place too! They really decorated for Halloween, and it was so cute!

Well, after waiting a bit to order, I got my food. I got the shepherds pie which was on special. ( it's on regular menu too) was absolutely terrible, no flavor, lumpy mashed potatoes and flavorless!! Just ground meat, and corn and potatoes, don't get this. I also ordered the pastrami and cabbage egg roll. It was mostly large chunks of cabbage and very little pastrami, one for $4.99. They just fine you a large side of Russian dressing to mask how bad it is. Seemed like all young kids in back cooking and not good at all. I won't be back. Service was slow and they were not busy. The bartender was busy doing the schedule and talking to other employees. I waited 10 minutes as her back was to me doing the schedule to order. Sadly run business and I will not be back. Stay away as only the locals were acknowledged at the other end of the bar. I've been here before with about the same experience and gave in one last shot. Oh well read more

I love this place. Very friendly staff. Some food is better than other, but you can say that about most places. I recommend the chowders if you're lucky enough to be there on a weekend. Bikers love this place, because route 21 is a great place to ride. If you're a biker, please realize that this is actually a residential neighborhood and try to be considerate of your engine noise level when you leave late at night. :) thanks! read more

We go to this Pub alot. It is so hit & miss. We have gotten great food and service, sometimes no so great. 1.They should change the fry oil WAY more often. 2. Dont serve burnt food 3.Hose down the whole place, its tacky if you get me... The owner needs to boot the bad cook, give the good one a raise! 5. the Nachos, Pizza and salmon y sandwiches are Sooo good!!! Nice little Irish pub with a regular stream of 'regulars' so it seemed. Poured a nice 'black-n-tan': it was grand and pleased! Whiskey in a clean glass alas! Family has been coming here for years so when I moved to the area in February it was a must try. Let's just say I haven't been disappointed since. The food is outstanding. If you like burgers I recommend the leprechaun burger with a side of the bayou sauce and curly fries. But what I've been most impressed with is their pizza. Before "the pub" I frequented the chain pizza places that shall not be named, but since February that has been a thing of the past. Try the buffalo chicken pizza, my favorite, or even just a pepperoni and cheese - you can't go wrong!!! I gave the pub 5 stars because not only is the food outstanding, but the staff are some of the friendliest and most welcoming individuals I have ever met. Keep it up!!!! read more

Every time I drive through Belchertown I stop in for a beer and a bite. I'm always treated like family, the staff remembered my name the second time I ate there! The food is home cooked pub fair, and far better than you would expect from the average bar and grill. The hand cut fries are a win, and the fish and chips is easily the best in the valley. The owner is usually working the bar! You can't find places like this anymore, it's a special kind of place that is a must if you're passing through, and definitely worth a special trip. read more

I'm in solid "like" with this place. It took a while for anyone to notice us, but when they did, service was very friendly. We both got normal meals, burgers and wings, and everything was pretty OK. Garlic parmesan wings were dry and not great. Burgers were pretty good but nothing stood out. I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back, but if you like to stick on the safe side for your meals, this place is very accommodating. read more

We went on a Saturday for dinner. We are looking to move to Belchertown and were house hunting. My Texas burger was fine and pretty good. My wife ordered the prime rib which was actually raw and had to be sent back. Still raw when it came back. The knife was not sharp enough to cut the meat and asked for another knife and told they didn't have one!!! Good local place, just don't order the prime rib!! read more

The food used to be great, I don't know what happened. They've changed their menu within the past year and it is noticeably lower quality and some stand-bys that I always ordered (like eggplant fries!) are gone. I gave it a couple of tries before I resolved that I'm not going to eat here anymore. It's a shame because it's a nice place to hang out. read more

I had the honey BBQ wings and a basket of fries. The wings had a perfect kick and the fries were super crispy. So far the best wings I have had. It was loud but what do you expect for a pub. In the end it was good food. read more

Horrible food, slow service they need a new cook . the food options were either overcooked and dried out or undercooked . The Mediterranean Fish in a Irish pub was disgusting and off bathed in butter and rubbery. the waitress we started with came back a half hour after we placed our order and told us the special was out of stock after our second choice and hour later and a new waitress we got our horrible meal with a few minor errors . the new waitress kept apologizing for the kitchen and the delays. Continuing on our journey from Chicago to Massachusetts, McCarthy's became a staple as we were staying at a farm just down the road. Service was spotty, some nights great, others not so great. But the Guiness and Jameson were flowing perfectly, and the food was good! It's a local pub, Irish themed with an American menu. Plenty of beer and spirits, with a deck for eating outside, and plenty of TV's to watch every game on that day. Nicely decorated and comfortable set up to make it one of those places where people can and do stay for hours. The food is great for what it is (comfort pub food), its family friendly, and has its good share of locals, and caters to lots of bike rallies on charity rides. read more

Grew up with this being the town hot spot. Same wonderful owner and lots of great staff. I still always enjoy myself when I go there. They also have some great parties. In the Fall and sometimes summer they have a tent set up and a DJ. On Saint Patty's day it's usually DJ Steph who grew up there as well. He does a great job engaging the crowd. Always a good time. We were wary initially, as the service tended to be hit-or-miss, but nowadays the servers are uniformly excellent and friendly. The menu has been recently overhauled, too, with new options.
