I have been seeing McClain's Pizzeria on yelp for some time now and decided to try it out today. The restaurant is small but has a balcony with a beautiful view of the lake. The service was great and the staff is friendly. The pizza was just okay. The crust was thin and chard on the edges and bottom. Also, I added jalapeños to my pizza and they were fresh but cut sloppy. The thick jalapeños were an half of inch to an inch in thickness which sadly overpowers the rest of the pizza. If you're looking for a quick slice of pizza, this place will do, but it's not the best. read more

Food was really tasty. After it finally came. There was one waitress (ours) who never stopped. I watched her take orders at tables and on the phone -the whole time our pizza was just sitting there waiting to be delivered to our table. Went to McClains,last night ... very busy night... but the best part is that because of obvious short staffing the owner came to be our waitor... He was kind and courteous a TRUE servent leader!!! I watched as he digilently went back into the kitchen to cook but then return to the table with a smile and not a yell or cross word was coming from him .... Best pizza on the Northshore! The staff is fun and it's a really easy going atmosphere, family friendly and dog friendly (on the balcony). I would suggest trying jalepeno poppers for a starter!! The spaghetti and meatballs is delicious and super filling. I'm also a fan of the Greek pizza and the swamp thing, but honestly you can't go wrong here. Five stars! read more

Had been wanting to try this place, based on older reviews for quite some time. The location is great and the pizza was quite good. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Where it fell for short for us was in the service. The "greeter" was ver impersonal and dismissive. Our waitress seemed distracted and disinterested in us. I ordered root beer and got Dr Pepper. The waitress only checked on us once during the whole service and that was to bring the check. On the way out, no one acknowledged us or thanked us - like you typically see at restaurants. I would love to have the pizza again, but not the service. read more

I agree, you can't get good pizza on the northshore for anything. That's where Mcclain's comes in. Excellent pizza..amazing hummus. But....you HAVE to try the hamburger pizza. The last two times I tried to dine in here, the service was so pathetic I ended up leaving. Today I ordered takeout, because the pizza is great even if the service isn't. I get here 30 minutes after placing my order (as instructed), pay, and then I'm told that "for some reason the kitchen didn't add pepperoni" to my PEPPERONI PIZZA and so it would be "about another 8 minutes" for them to make another one. Great food, but the service is consistently bad. Usually it takes a long time before anyone notices that you have been seated. I'm not sure if that's because they are understaffed or because they don't assign tables but it's usually a scene of chaos with their servers. That leads to long waits for drinks, drink refills, and usually food. With that said the food is excellent which is why we keep coming back. Just wish the service was better. read more

I am giving one star for the view of the lake. We get there, after a dinner rush, wait for 30 minutes on a little bench, and order two beers. Theyre out of clean glasses, so we get plastic cups- college style. We get sat outside, all is well, except service. These teenagers are more concerned with flirting with each other, than their jobs. Next, night fell, and so did the bugs. Citronella candles get brought out, great, mosquitos gone.... spiders, on the other hand, are EVERYWHERE. Falling from the canopy, on the lights, on my chair..... now, before you get all defensive, YES, i know that i am outside. There is no reason why the establishment couldnt clean off the spiderwebs, as to not facilitate the spiders, because those webs were not made in a day!! Now, onto the pizza. It made me ill. Soggy, greasy, gluteny pizza. Dominos is more satisfying. After all of this, where is our check?? 25 minutes later, it arrives, and with my payment in hand-- waitress walks away, without my payment. 15 minutes later, after asking two other employees to take my check, another girl takes it. My husband and I have lived in Mandeville for almost 30 years and have had to go to Covington and Abita for good sit down and eat pizza. Finally a great pizza place came to town that is not a franchise and is locally owned. The service was good, the location is very nice, (with an outside upper deck area to sit), the pizza has a nice hand made crust that is not thick, the sauce is tasty, and the cheese hot and stringy ...quality ingredients. Gourmet pizzas with fresh toppings are available. They also sell beer and wine. We plan to be regulars at this place. YUM read more

Great pizza but the service is terrible. We were sitting at our table for 15 minutes and was never greeted by a server. When telling the manager the ordeal, she literally said nothing in return...just stood there and looked at us. Service was so bad we will never come back which is a bummer because they do have great tasting pizza. Not worth it to give up hard earned money though. read more

We have been there twice and both times the service was absolutely terrible. We decided to try again tonight. We arrived at 6pm. It was not crowded at all. We ordered two pizzas and waited over an hour before we asked a passing waitress if she could check on our order. She was incredibly rude and did not bother to go look into our situation and we didn't see our waiter. At that point, I went and asked for the manager. I spoke with the manager and she said she would look into the situation. Our waiter came back to the table a little bit later to tell us that our ticket had been lost and our pizzas were being put in the oven now before everyone else's pizzas (as a priority). This was at this point after being there about an hour and a half. We finally get one of our pizzas and about 15 minutes later, we still don't have our 2nd pizza. The waiter comes back to our table and I ask him about the second pizza and he asks me what was the second pizza that was ordered. He went to check and only wrote one pizza down. This place is in a great location, but other than that, there's nothing else I can say good. Our waiter was very young and sweet, but a total flake. One of the waitresses (purple hair) was by far the rudest waitress I have ever encountered in my life. The manager looked completely overwhelmed and the place was not crowded at all. I have enjoyed McClain's Pizza, however, I will not be back. My daughter went twice and was treated terribly by the waitstaff. The first time my daughter went with friends and sat downstairs. The waiter would not even walk all the way down to deliver their pizza. They had to meet him halfway to pick it up. He made them pay in advance and never checked on them or offered drink refills. When my daughter said she was going again with friends recently I said "good luck!" It did not go well. They were not allowed to sit downstairs for starters. They were then treated like 5 year olds and then lectured on tipping. I know teens can be difficult customers, but it's a shame the waitstaff is potentially ruining a great restaurant business. read more

My husband and I just went in at about 6:00 on a Saturday evening. The hostess/ cashier was distracted at the register at the entrance and told us to "give me a minute to clear a table." There were about 5 tables available inside (only 2 occupied and almost finished). We asked if we could sit and be served at the bar. She said yes, so we sat there. For 15 minutes (15 minutes!!), during which not one employee spoke to us AT ALL--not even to say "be right with you," nor handed us a menu, took a drink order, NOTHING. It was bizarre. We waited to see if anything would happen, but nada. We had eaten there before and really enjoyed the pizza and salad (hence the one star) but tonight it wasn't worth it. My husband (who is not from here) says it's the worst service he's ever experienced in the Louisiana restaurant. I would say any restaurant. If someone had just made eye contact with us and said "sorry were really slammed tonight be with you in a minute" that would've been fine. But it was as if we were invisible. Husband says he's never going back nor recommending the place. Too bad, because they make some good food in a great atmosphere. read more
