I don't eat pizza very often but because the Super Bowl was on we decided to try McClains out. The place was almost empty when we arrived. There was a good bit of takeout while we were there and it became a bit busier later on. We were told to sit wherever we wanted so we picked a seat where everyone had a good view of a TV. There is a game room down stairs with some classic arcade games and a ping pong table. We ordered the McClains Special, the Cheeseburger pizza, and a custom pizza for the kids. The Pizza was pretty good and there was more than what we were capable of eating. Needless to say we took a box of pizza home with us. There is a handful of local draft beers ($4) and a number of the "mass produced" bottled beer. Service was good. We were checked on a lot and although it seems that this has been a big complaint with other Yelp customers, it was not something we experienced. read more

I have recently discovered this pizza joint and I have now had it 4 weekends in a row. Cheesy garlic bread is perfect, even better with the marinara sauce, it's slightly sweet. The crawfish pizza, something different and delicious. I couldn't eat a large one but sharing a slice with other pizza, it's a nice treat. The all meat pizza, probably my fave. I plan on trying them all! We've always done take out but the staff has always been super nice when picking up. read more

I want to give them five stars Bc the flavors are always on point, dill pickle pizza is our FAV and I never would've expected that! They use hamburger dill slices and my mouth is watering thinking about it. The cheese is delicious it's not some packaged cheese-ish product, it's got so much flavor on its own. Only issue which took a star...the crust is quite a bit flimsy from the center out....albeit a TASTY crust but the middle of the pizza is always droopy and the toppings fall off. Arrived five minutes early... paid $52 plus $6 tip ...waited and waited for 95 minutes , was told after 60 minutes " they are boxing it up now"- LIAR! 30 minutes later an older "straight " lady approximately 50ish apologized that they had lost my order. They were so incompetent that they were unable to issue a refund!!! Walked out without pizza or refund and was advised to call back"in a few days " to request the $58 refund. Not a bad place with better pizza than I expected. I ordered a 10" with salami, green peppers and the house made sausage. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the sauce. It didn't taste like a bland, canned sauce. Rather, house made as well...? The crust was thin, but more on the crispy side than chewy, and did have a couple of holes letting the sauce seep through and burning the bottom. Likely not a frozen dough but hand stretched or rolled. The house made sausage was very good. Not overwhelmingly spicy, but flavored well. I'd say it's the number one Pizza on the North-shore. It has a beautiful view of the lake. I love the environment and it's great for the kids. The pizza has a dual eating purpose, the crust is made of pretzel dough. So when you are finished eating the pizza, and have left over crust, they have honey to dip it in. My kids love the crust. The breadsticks are amazing! The seasoning they use is fantastic! The pizza dough recipe is a family one and it is delicious! Kid friendly - they gave the kids a little piece of dough to play with and made sure to call us over when they started throwing the dough. Went here for the first time yesterday and loved it. The lakefront really needs a casual pizza place that is not a chain and this is it. Our server seemed to be working her tail off and in spite of that, she was super friendly and made our experience fun. I had the veggie pizza and there were so many veggies!! McClains is the only place on the lake front in the town of Mandeville that serves delicious pizza with a gorgeous view. Located right across the street from the Beach House, this nice spot will provide you with a cold brew, hot and fresh pizza with friendly service. I've eaten here on multiple occasions and found that each experience is better than the one before. Delicious everything. Great views of the lake and sunset. (Bundle up for the cold!) I would have liked to write a review for this restaurant based on the quality of the food, but I did not eat at McClain's. You may be asking yourself, "How can you write a review on a restaurant if you didn't even try the food?" Here's the deal: My friends and I walked in, and asked for a table for eight. Within about twenty minutes, we got our table and our drinks. It was at this time, some guy (not our waiter) told us that the check could only be split one time between the eight of us. I mentioned that this information would have been helpful to know when we walked in, not twenty minutes later. Our hostess didn't tell us when we told her "party of eight, please", and there were certainly no signs saying this. This guy blamed our waiter for the misinformation because he was "new". Blaming someone else. Real classy. However, this little bit of mismanagement would not have irked me so much if they actually had the food as promised on the menu. Ok, I get it. Restaurants run out of food sometimes. But aren't they supposed to tell you that when you sit down? "By the way, we are fresh out of the lobster and filet mignon...how about a nice slice of meatloaf?" It wasn't until we had been there for over half an hour that I found out that they were out of the gluten-free dough. The thing is, I'm on a completely gluten-free diet, and we went to McClain's SPECIFICALLY because they advertise that they can make any pizza with a gluten-free crust (of course, with an up charge of $3). So I watched my friends enjoy their beers, and their appetizers and their pizza (which looked and smelled good enough), while I ate nothing. They had no idea whether or not the salad dressings were gluten-free, and I just couldn't chance it. In short, McClain's may advertise that they are GF friendly, but they are not. If you're living a GF lifestyle, I would avoid this place like the plague. That is, of course, unless you like sitting down, drinking nothing but water, and watching the people around you enjoy the things you used to be able to eat. I really want to like this place, but the service needs serious help. Management and staff can't handle busy at all. No hostess so three parties standing by door wondering what is going on, out of beer glasses so waitress says I'll have to wait for the dishwasher to wash some, cook talking on cell phone while people looking around for food, checks, etc., and the only person even resembling a manager just sitting at the bar chatting while all this is happening. This was last night (4/19/13). I can't solve all your problems (not for free at least), but a simple solution to the waiting thing would be to take advantage of the downstairs space, give waiting customers pagers, and open another bar downstairs on weekends. This place should be ashamed of themselves. We went when they first opened and as a former New Yorker who is very critical of my pizza, I really liked it. I decided to pick up two pizzas tonight to feed my family: an 18 inch cheese pizza with sliced meatball and a 14 inch Mcclain's combo. The 18 inch was no where near 18 inches and they were both burnt to a crisp! My $47 worth of pizza was barely edible! I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Having very recently been to a Mandeville restaurant very close to this one that I'm not impressed by, I will admit it affected my expectations. However, upon arrival we were seated at a small table on the balcony with a lovely view of the lake during the sunset. Our server was cheerful and very knowledgeable about the menu (I tend to have questions) and was quick with recommendations. We ordered a starter of the wings which were juicy and tender; my only complaint was that they were out of the spiciest sauce... if I'm eating hot wings, I want 'em HOT. For the main we split a medium Swamp Thing pizza, complete with gator sausage and a unique pink sauce that was both creamy and tangy. It hit all the major points that I look for in pizza: lots of sauce, good crunch to the crust, bubbling cheese, and enough toppings to get a bit in every bite... but as a plus, it also had a punch of flavor to back it all up. We couldn't finish it, but I'm sure if we'd sat there long enough we could have made the sacrifice. Unfortunately it's termite time and we were eventually chased inside by the swarms, though not before a few casualties in our waters as we tried to stick it out as long as possible. Our server, trooper that she was, even kept checking on us despite the creepy crawlies-- I had to give her credit! We left with very full bellies and lots of fond food memories. My experience here was really positive. The atmosphere was loud, but that is to be expected at dinner on Saturday night. My mother has gluten allergies as well as an allergen to dairy. So finding someplace for the whole family to eat is difficult. We found that place here. The waiter, Trevor was awesome and the food was fabulous. My only complaint was the hostesses were disorganized, so when we first walked in we stood there for a minute without being acknowledged. I also wish they were open for lunch. The location is worth 34 stars. As a west coastie living in Slidell I am always CRAVING some beachside eats.... Lake Ponchatrain fits the bill for me. The pizza was amazing! The artichoke dip was a huge let down.. and had an insane amount of oil resting on the top (because it took so long to get to us). When we asked for a different dip they just scooped more dip on top. Now the service was wretched!!! There was approximately 2 servers for every table.. and yet it took 20 minutes to get acknowledged. Go figure. Get the pizza to go and have a picnic. Love this pizza place. It was much needed on the Mandeville Lakefront since most of the places around there are more upscale. You can easily walk to McClain's from The Barley Oak (when it's not 100 degrees outside), which is something my husband and I like to do. Poor service, Took forever to get our order. Food was subpar at best. You can tell it all comes from frozen. Their 10" personal pizza ended up costing about $16.00. Their calzone was horrible ( it was a small pizza folded over!, NOT a calzone) All in all, a small pizza , calzone and a chicken parm with three drinks ended up costing about $55.00. We decided to try a new pizza place and sadly were disappointed. First off our bill was over 50.00 for one large pepperoni pizza, 1 medium Greek pizza, and wings. What the heck? It's pizza and wings. This place is way over priced. The pizza was good. Not great just good. The wings were slimy. I like my wings actually cooked. They needed more baking/fry time. Also btw the ranch is nasty! Don't waste your time on it! They messed our order up too. I feel like I'm being generous by giving this place 3 stars.... Best pizza we have found so far: Neely's.
