Really disappointed with our experience with McCormack. This year was rainy so they were really busy and it took them awhile to get out to give us a quote, but all the roofers were swamped so we understood. We paid a deposit, signed a contract for a roof tile reset and were told the work would start in about 6 weeks due to the back log. We get a call 6 weeks later to schedule the work and the crews come out and "won't do the work since our roof is too steep" so they cancel on us. Now it has been 3 weeks and we still haven't gotten our deposit back. I've called and requested it but still have not received it. I am really surprised that it has taken this long since they are the ones who cancelled on us. Really disappointed in how unprofessional this company has been. read more

Their prices were competitive with the local market and they have a long history of customer satisfaction. We had McCormack install a steel roof in 2002. We also had a repair on the flat part of our roof in 2006. With the recent crazy rain and wind, we had a small leak in our kitchen. It seems the wind was pushing in the rain through a small gap. I send an e-mail with a copy of our contract and a photo of the leak and within 4 hours, we had a call from Scott who said he was in the area and could stop by if it was convenient. He diagnosed the problem, added some sealant and was in and out within about 40 minutes and no charge. We've always had good service with McCormack Roofing. read more

McCormack had done roof repair fir me a number of years ago so when I was ready for a new roof a couple of years ago I contacted them. My new, UV-Light roof is very nice. Unfortunately, it cost close to double the estimated price. The estimator/inspector quoted a price for the roof stating that I did not need the tear-down that I thought would be needed. Great, I had the cash ready. But he highly recommended solar panels -- they had a great deal and that the additional tens of thousands could be financed through the Hero Program. While I theoretically and ideologically support alternative energy sources, I am a low energy user and felt solar was probably not an economically sound investment. So the estimator/salesperson says he can show me examples of installations and calculations; while he is doing that, perhaps I can apply to the Hero program while I make up my mind. So that I did and the process was started. But I also researched solar and calculated costs/savings. Turns out that panels would actually need replacing years before I would even break even on the investment so I opted for roof only and I don't think they were happy about it. So the roofers start work and within 24 hours I get word that --oops -- they have to do a tear-down instead of the "layover" that was quoted. Wait -- that was just what the inspector said I DIDN'T need. But at this point I am committed and tell them to go ahead. Every day there seems to be a new expense that, while needed, should have been caught by the inspector. It is interesting that the final cost was equal to what the original estimate for both roof AND solar panels had been. So, yes, the roof seems fine but it is sad to have been a "low-star" customer. read more

Sent an email from their site to request a quote to replace our roof. Got a call from them to schedule another call with their expert. On the day of the scheduled call, the guy introduced himself as a professional working in the field for more than 20 years. He claimed he has all the info he needs to give me a quote because their cutting-edge software does the analysts from satellite map. But immediately proceeded to say he needs to reschedule this call for tomorrow (Saturday) because he needs to take care of some things before the weekend. I waited for his call next day, nothing. Called back and left a voice mail, still no answer to this day. Sounds like they think my roof is too small of a business but can't be honest and upfront about it, can't trust them to actually do business or take care of warranty if anything happens. Would avoid and find another honest contractor. read more

Very disappointed after the owner came to give me a quote and a bunch of promises, their attitude and communication were less than cero. I won't go on details , but besides the two Mexican installers I never saw a supervisor come and make sure the job was done properly like I was promised, even to get my invoice, it took them a month to send it to me. They sent me a review sheet, and after I gave them very low scores , I got no call or email to explain or apologize for their lack of communication and on top of that, they left a mess in my garage for me to clean up. read more

First the positives. The company sent people to repaint the gouges and marks left on the new paint, replace the cracked tile resulting from the repeated jarring of the 100-year-old craftsman home, and replace the vintage leaded glass window that was bowed for the same reason. Project manager Scott was polite, professional, and responsive. He found redwood to replace the wood used to build the house. That said, the rest of the job was a study in prolonged, highly stressful, needlessly frustrating contracted work. The house was fully renovated when I bought it 6 months ago. Brand new paint inside and out, new tiles, floors, window screens, etc. I was clear with the salesperson that it was an old house, so care should be taken. It was not. The tear off was damaging. Gouges in the newly sanded and painted wood planks, marks on the new paint, nails and asphalt ALL OVER my yard. Despite the house being old, the workers did not take care when dropping materials on the roof. It would shake the whole house. The window contractor noted the bowed leaded glass and lead dust on the sealed windows frame, and the tile contractor found cracked tiles at pressure points in the frame, which could only be caused by repeated jarring. Exhaust pipes were left unsecured after the tear off, leaving them to bang around in high winds for two nights. When I turned my stove fan on, multiple wood shake shingle chips rattled around in it. I had to disassemble the fan and clear out large chunks of charred wood from the exhaust pipe above my stove, a somewhat alarming fire hazard. Every contractor who came out to make repairs was surprised by the damage and mess, and made comments about how careless the tear off crew had been. I had to walk around the house every day and take pictures of damage or poor quality work (bent or missing trim, poorly secured shingles, nails sticking three inches out of eaves, etc.). The job took three months to complete because the crew kept having to come out to fix poor quality work, and the repairs had to be made by external contractors. I emailed the owner and manager four times requesting a more experienced supervisor, and a conversation with the owner about how the job was going. He never responded, nor did the office manager get back to me. They sent the same project manager to address the issues. I sent detailed descriptions and photos of the damage done, then another email with detailed descriptions and photos of the poor quality workmanship, as well as a note addressing the fact that the company was using an outdated permit form and did not know they needed my signature to be notarized, so the city inspector failed to approve the job twice. While they did make repairs, if it were my business I would have also made a good faith gesture of a call with an apology and SOME show of acknowledgment that the process went badly. But, there was no call and they charged me full price, including the additional redwood charge. I have paid it because I want this to be over. But, I would have gladly paid that had the job gone well, or even had 1 or 2 hiccups with a call from the owner to address it. It was a very big job, despite the house only being 1500 sq ft, plus a small casita and patio. There were 4 layers of shingles (with the original shake at the bottom). I live on a hill, making access a challenge. The price was $29,982, and reflected the challenges inherent in the job. The $30K would have been reasonable had the job been done with care and not required my constant vigilance. The final product looks fine, and seems to be holding up to weather. But, I don't believe I received a $30K value given all that went sideways with this job. read more

Imagine my delight when Steve from McCormack Roofing came in person and after careful inspection on top of my roof, he told me I just needed replacement of all the ridge caps and my roof would be good for another 10 years. This is the second time I've used McCormack for roof issues. This time involved removal/replacement of rotted fascia in preparation of new rain gutters and installation of a roof vent. Mario gave me a reasonable estimate personally, showed up on time to do the work, completed it all in one day and answered all of my questions professionally and courteously. I had McCormack replace some tiles on my roof three years ago to prevent a leak I had running into a bedroom and having to replace a ceiling and repaint. Because it rarely rains in So. California, I had no idea whatever they did for thousands of dollars failed to work. This past rain where it rained tremendously hard for 15 minutes, showed me that the roof was leaking in the very SAME PLACE that I had paid to get repaired. I had Jim McCormack bid my home re-roofing job in North Tustin recently. Jim was not the cheapest but had the best and most thorough presentation and great reviews. I signed with him on the spot and the entire roofing project went flawlessly. He and the office staff were always available for discussion and the entire roofing process took just three days. They had to tear off the old roof (39 squares), make some repairs, put plywood and felt down, then the Owens Corning shingles with a 50 year transferable, non-prorate warranty. Cleanup was thorough and prompt. Roof looks great and doesn't leak! Now will Owens Corning be in business for 50 years? I couldn't ask for a better contractor experience. Now I'm planning to have them repaint the outside of the house as well. read more

Yes, small companies who employ a sales force who is less than average will unfortunately affect the face of the business in the open market - such as forgetting a ladder and thus a home owner thinks the whole operation is weak. Yet in the end, the team that is deployed to remove the roof and reinstall it, is what matters. I can say from my experience with McCormack, they have an experienced group of installers that provide a great service for a reasonable price. Firstly the tear off. I was shocked at how kind and professional the removal team was. Usually teams hired solely for demo and removal, are not the best communicators or in the brightest of moods. This team that showed up from McCormack was early, kind, very easy to communicate with, and worked hard. The PM that I worked with - 'Jaime' - was excellent. To be a good roofer, you must also be a good carpenter - one that can fix wood problems (twisted joists / wood rot / broken decking) found when you remove the old roof. My home, built in 1951, was a disaster underneath the old roof. Jaime and his team did a fantastic job 'truing' up the old roof, and laying down the new roof. I also had 38 posts installed ahead of time for solar. Jaime and his team not only flashed every one of them in, but went back and painted each post afterwards. You only get this level of detail when the team cares about their work, and wants the home owner to be happy. This is what I experienced working with the team from McCormack roofing. read more
