The food was hot, the staff were very nice, and the inside is pretty nice it's pretty much like a standard McDonald's.

‼New coffee shop in Sparrows Point‼…read more I attended the soft opening this weekend, and was very impressed! The space and seating inside is limited, so it definitely seems more of a to-go than sit-down place. The staff was nothing but kind and worked very hard to keep the line moving as they were SO busy! They were giving away complimentary pastries ("mini" versions of what they'll sell regularly!) and gelato scoops as part of their first day, so I snagged an espresso scone, a slice of Cinnamon Toast Crunch banana bread, and a scoop of pumpkin cheesecake gelato. All three were SO yummy. I especially loved the gelato, which was super creamy, smooth, and pumpkin-y. I got to try a few samples of other flavors, and they were great too. I also got a pumpkin oatmilk latte to go with my pastries. I returned the next morning to see how the experience would be on a more "normal" day. I got a pumpkin oatmilk latte again, but asked for extra syrup as the first one I had wasn't quite as sweet as I would like. The woman working made my drink with one extra pump, and gave me the option to add another if it still wasn't sweet enough. I did end up needing another one, and I really appreciated that I was able to do so. I also got a full-sized espresso scone. These ones had crunchy sugar on top, which was a nice touch. Super excited to continue supporting this new local business. Hoping the community continues to show as much support as they did on the first day so this place can stick around for a while!

The perfect spot for locals to grab a coffee on their way to work or an afternoon lunch spot. Joanna's has a really nice menu with quite a few breakfast and lunch options. As well as a decent drink menu for whatever may suite your fancy at the moment. I settled on a Pistachio and Rose Latte, a Sausage and Cheese breakfast sandwich, and a huge Black Bottom Muffin. The latte was little on the sweet side for me, but the flavor was decent. The breakfast sandwich I got on an asiago bagel, and it was pure deliciousness. The chicken sausage was seasoned nicely, and the asiago bagel was so soft and pillowy. I thoroughly enjoyed this sandwich. And the muffin was quite tasty too. With so many items to try on Joanna's menu and their good customer service, I'll definitely be back to try some other things when I'm in the area.

This is the sort of place that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. And, for someone who's been several times, I now feel like family. If you're looking for an unhurried coffee served on a silver tray, get their Ethiopian coffee service. If you're looking for a good coffee to go, they've got that, too. If you want breakfast, you're in the right place, and you can try more than the usual diner fare or avocado toast. There are a few Ethiopian dishes for lunch, too, with fantastic injera that is flown in daily from Ethiopia. If you want a special Ethiopian dish that's not on the menu, they may be able to make it with some notice. The coffee house has a small shop with Ethiopian coffee, incense, and trinkets from their homeland. It's a special place run by genuinely kind people who care about sharing their love of their homeland through their food and the way they treat customers. Don't miss it.

I come to this location regularly because it's on my way to work and, even though the customer…read moreservice isn't always great, my order is usually correct. Today was the worst experience I've had here. I ordered an iced caramel craze latte and was given a hot one. I politely let them know it was supposed to be iced. The cashier started going back and forth with the crew, then told me to pull around back. I waited there about five minutes -- no one came out. I went back to the front, then inside, and no one knew anything about the corrected drink. I would've been waiting indefinitely if I hadn't come in. Then a staff member appeared from the side with a remake and said they were waiting for me to pull back around -- which makes no sense because that would mean getting back in a long line again. The replacement drink was also made wrong -- no whipped cream, no caramel drizzle, nothing -- and when I asked about it, the employee acted like I had an attitude for expecting the drink to be made as advertised. I just had her put the topping on without the caramel drizzle around the cup. Disorganized, poor communication, and careless service. I won't be returning to this location. The Merritt location is far more professional and friendly.

On top of that, when I ask for light cream cheese on my bagel, that doesn't mean to use the whole container. I also asked for plain cream cheese, yet it always tastes like garlic. Are the tools or equipment not being cleaned properly between uses? This experience was very frustrating, and I won't be returning after this.

TLDR: A Dundalk institution closes its doors, but the flavors and memories will stick with me…read moreforever. It's truly the end of an era for Herman's Bakery. My family and I have been coming here since the 80s, and hearing that they're closing at the end of March 2026 hit hard. The owners are retiring in their 70s, with no one to carry on the tradition, and you can really feel how much this place meant to the community. Herman's has always been a staple for us, especially for their strawberry shortcakes and marshmallow donuts. Those were must-haves growing up, along with their fresh rye bread and the fudge topped shortbread cookies that somehow made every holiday and birthday feel a little more special. I made one last trip about a week before closing, getting there at 7:30am on a Friday, and the line was already out the door. No surprise there. Everyone in Dundalk seemed to have the same idea. Honestly, I didn't mind the wait at all knowing this would be the last time walking through those doors. They were limiting items due to demand, but I was still able to grab two slices of strawberry shortcake, two marshmallow donuts, and a pound of those fudge shortbread cookies. And just like always, everything tasted exactly how I remembered. No drop off, no shortcuts, just consistently great baked goods to the very end. It's rare to find a place that stays this consistent for decades, and even rarer for it to be such a big part of so many people's lives. Dundalk won't be the same without Herman's, but I'm grateful for all the years and memories. Wishing the owners a well deserved and happy retirement.

Besides the renovations, it did have an old building odor, which if you're new (like me) it's very off putting. I'll say if you like strawberry shortcake this is the place for you because they had a bunch of those lol. They had a case for italian cookies and other pastries like donut and danishes.
