Went to the drive thru to get a quick dinner tonight and I was in the mood for some nuggets. I asked if they had a 20 pc meal and they did! So I got the 20 pc meal w/ large fries and large diet coke. It came out to $10.48, which was confusing to me because that didnt add up in my head. A 20 pc is $5, soda is $1 and lrg fries is $2.50. Anyways it turns out that the meal is more expensive than ordering the stuff seperately. ($10.48 vs $9.41) I thought the point of having a meal was so that its cheaper..... After being confronted with this problem, the dude at the drive thru window said something along the lines of "you order it how you order it and thats what you pay." I thought it was illegal to sell a meal more expensive than its individual parts. I mean what are you charging extra for????? To top it all off they gave me oil soaked fries that havent been cooked. I hadn't been to a McDonald's in probably a decade but you know what? The fries here are still 89832473489349x better than In N Out. SORRY 'BOUT IT! I came here around noon and was thinking it'd be easy. Who still eats at McDonalds? In the middle of the day no less? Well... turns out, a whole lot of people. Like everyone. Like, maybe I'm the only one who hasn't been eating here and obviously no one missed me enough on the scene to tell me because now here I am not understanding how to read the menu... which is now digitized and freaking changes on some screens and actually super hard to read if you're not already familiar with the offerings. I was picking up a lunch for a kid at this camp I help out at who didn't have one that day. He said he didn't want fast food because his stomach was acting up (no sh*t, after the bottle of lemonade and bag of Doritos you had at snack time) but I'm not a personal assistant so guess what, kid? What side do you want with your friggin chicken nuggets because that's what's going down. The parking lot was completely full with 3 different cars circling in hopes of a space opening and the drive through was backed up to the street so I decided it'd be fastest to park on the street down the block and walk over and I was right. The moving digital menu definitely tripped me up but I ended up getting the kid the larger kids meal with 6 McNuggets and the sliced apple side with a sprite, per the amended request. The meal ended up coming with both fries and an apple and I still don't know if that was a lucky mistake or it actually comes with 2 things but I'm not complaining. I also placed an order for fries for myself as a reward for hanging out with kids all day and some smoothies for my fellow kid counselors. They had a coke zero machine that makes like 8492649284 different combos which was fun although I had to stick to sprite order. The woman behind the counter was SO nice and my food came up sooo quickly inside. Happy to know its here if I need a kid's lunch in a pinch. read more

Wouldn't let me leave a second review, so I'll just update my first. Throughout the entire duration of COVID-19, the Gilman employees have successfully strived to keep me and all the guys happy customers. I'm not sure if this location is a franchise or a mom and pops operation, but the servers and burger tenders are always polite and willing to chat. Whether you want personal recommendations when you pull up to the drive through screen, or you wanna chat ambiance and location specific decorations with the server, they are always willing to lend an ear. I do say I miss the local daytime crew, but the swing shift/night employees have never let me down. The parking lot is actually really nicely set up for social distance dining, and although the location has some of the best decorations of any McDonalds, they are steady doing renovations. This is by far the best location in the greater Bay Area, and again I'm not sure if they are mom and pops owned or part of the actual McDonalds franchise. They are also very receptive through telephone about drive through inquiries, although don't call with pointless questions as to how long the line is, just respectful inquiries please. Definitely one of my top 3 locations. The lobby is open pretty late, it's always clean and the waitresses are nice. I usually get a double QP with cheese meal- but when I'm with the boys I'll usually throw in a 20 piece. The homeboy goes with the McGriddles- day or night. I always dine in, but when In a rush the drive through is always accessible. They do not take reservations, but are responsive and will always answer the phone quickly. The waitresses are genuinely interested and often question what I will be enjoying from the Infinity™ machine. My go to is cherry lime coke. The waitress was thrilled when I told her this. The ambiance is always nice and there is usually a good crowd of regulars enjoying an all American meal. 5 st read more

This McDonald's is set up weird. You go in a NASCAR loop on one side of the restaurant (instead of just having the line WRAP AROUND the restaurant itself). This wouldn't be so bad, but to enter the line, you have to directly cross paths with cars leaving the drive-thru right where their blind spots would be - it's a car accident waiting to happen. Aside from that, the service isn't great either. I ordered a sundae that comes in a plastic cup. Guess what utensil they gave me? They gave me a fork. Not a spork, which would be adequate, but a bona fide, 4-pronged fork. Am I glad that McDonald's doesn't serve soup or I'd really be in trouble. If you come here, park in the lot. What is the reason why this particular McDonald's location can't put together a small order & hand it at the drive-thru window? None of the other McDonald's does this. Each and every time they make me drive around and wait for the food, you can't even get sauce or napkins because you're nowhere at the pickup window! I want corporate to do something about this unsafe practice of customers waiting in the dark for their food. This needs to stop. There's no car behind me and how come it takes so long to make two of the same items? It's called fast food! It's a McDonald's World! We just live in it! McDonald's is a global corporate institution! This branch of McDonald's is part of The Family history. I was recently reminded of that when we ran into two of our neighbours who used to bring their sons when they were little. The Mother and The Neighbours were reminiscing about how this McDonald's was their family place. It was the only place I would agree eating at any time when I was a child--it beat Chinese food any day for me. (I appreciate Chinese food, especially dim sum/deem sum; I have evolved since then.) There was a bike giveaway contest, a bike for a boy and a girl. The Sibling was one of the bike winners. McDonald's is part of The Family history. I have seen this McDonald's branch undergo many renovations. I remember McDonald's when it was in the style of the 1950's-60's white brick/tile with the huge signature Golden Arches separate from the building. There was little outdoor seating, and most families used to eat in their cars. We were one of those families. Then there was the virtually all brick exterior from the 1970s'-80's and no more huge signature Gold Arches. No more outdoor seating. I think it is now on its third renovation/makeover. It has been about two years since the last makeover. It is okay, the drive-thru leaves a little to be desired. The parking lot and the drive-thru is almost like an obstacle course. The Mother and I have breakfast or lunch, it seems like we have been here once a week lately. We have the chicken nuggets or the filet o'fish meals. Sometimes we are here for breakfast. I have been challenging The Mother about coming here for a free coffee served between 5:00 to 6:00 A.M. (Still working on her for that.) I have not had any problems with the staff that works here, they are pretty nice. They strive for customer service and satisfaction. One time, I was overcharged for dipping sauces and was able to get that charge removed from the bill. It turned out that we were supposed to get the number of dipping sauces at no extra charge. McDonald's is all over the globe. It was in the 1980s McDonald's opened up branches in Europe. I remember when it was newly opened in the UK in 1985-86. It seemed a little out of place to me that there was McDonald's in London and its competition was Wimpy's Hamburgers. I did eat there just to say I ate chicken nuggets, filet 'o fish, and a hamburger at a London McDonalds. (Most of the time, I ate at the pubs and the Taco Bell.) In 2007, I ate at a McDonald's in Roma with the pilgrimage group. They served fried shrimp there, so I had shrimp and chips aka patatine fritte e gamberi fritti. McDonald's is still around, and I believe it will be for generations of families to come and enjoy, and have treasured family memories. read more

I placed an ordered one night and things just got a little out of pocket with my order, slight confrontation and confusion. After filling out the survey on my food receipt I got an email from the manager Alma. Alma was very professional, apologized, and even offered to replace my meal for me. This was an experience beyond frustrating. I was craving burgers like crazy, so we went to McDonald's and chose the drive thru option. I ordered 2 quarter pounder burgers and specified that I didn't want any cheese. To be sure, I said it twice. The drive thru employee said ok. Then we paid and went to the pickup window. The employee asks " no cheese, right? ", so I'm pretty confident that they got my order right. Well, spoiler alert: they didn't. I got my two quarter pounder burgers, with a big label saying " no cheese " but plenty of cheese on both burgers. Lucky me. Shame I only noticed it when I got home. And shame I didn't take the time to snap a picture before throwing them angrily in the trash. Never again. My craving is gone though, so there's that. I bought 6 mcChickens and 2 fries. I asked for BBQ sauce and they were out, I then asked for buffalo and also out. I asked for ranch and I got 3 sauces. How in Gods name am I going to utilize 3 ranch dipping sauces for 6 sandwiches. Something don't add up. At least say extra sauce is an extra charge because I would have been down with spending 4 dollars on a boat load of ranch because I was really feeling some ranch on my sandwiches but I guess that's less revenue for Mac Donald's. This will be my ode to McDonalds. Back in the day, this was our "hangout". We would go to Friday night basketball practice at a local gym and then stop McDonalds for a snack before going home to start the weekend in earnest. I remember "sort of" noshing on a small plain hamburger with fries while running around with the other kids while our folks tried in vain to get us to sit and eat our food. Back in the day, McDonalds' were clean and pretty prompt with your order and pretty tolerant of a bunch of kids in sweats running around late on a Friday night. Just recently I returned to the same McDonald's for a little afternoon snackie. Since I was young(er than I am now), this McDonalds has been totally redone from the studs up. I think the only thing that is remotely the same is the sign out front on the San Pablo side of the road. Now there is a drive through and the inside is all updated. The neighborhood has changed a bit, there are now homeless people who take up some sidewalk outside the store. Back in the day, McDonalds was pretty much full service eatery. Now you serve your own drink and slide into a modern (mid-2000's) booth and enjoy food from the updated menu. They have Gilroy garlic fries (yup!), fancy coffee, like lattes and iced coffees, breakfast all day (egg mcmuffins and/or hash brown, yay!) I have to say, here's the thing about McDonalds - it may not be the best food in town, but when you are out of the country, or out of your element, it sure is nice to go to McDonalds where you know what you are going to get - a meal you know exactly how it's going to taste, a smiling face and a feeling that you are home even though, really, you are not. You will occasionally get the sticky table, or sticky floor, but, you know, some days that just happens. Also, there are those days you literally just want to "stop-by" the drive through and get things quick - and I notice they are pretty good about getting your order right. This McDonalds on Gilman, I must confess, is not in my neighborhood anymore. But going there gave me a great feeling of nostalgia. It was exactly what I expected. The neighborhood may not be the same as when I was young(er than I am now), but I really appreciated going there and having a meal that brought me back in the day. I liked it and I like THIS McDonalds - and I will venture to say I like most McDonalds because when I go there, I know what I will get. Not the best, but a meal like back in the day. read more

Stay away!!! This place is a complete dump. I went in at exactly 9:30pm, and the doors were locked, even though the hours on the door say 10 pm. Someone opened the door and I went in, and the lady told me they were closed. I tried to ask if I could just order something quickly with my McDonald's app and she cut me off halfway through my sentence to repeat they were closed. Super rude! Also, the fries tend to be really soggy once the lobby closes and it's just drive though, nothing tastes fresh, and you cannot use your McDonald's app at the drive through once the lobby closes. They will refuse to use a different register and won't even accept the fact your showing them the coupon. Total waste of time, do not come here, the food is bad and the service is worse.
