I was pretty blown away by the service we received at this McDonald's in Kahana this morning!!!! The service here was just MIND BLOWING I tell you!!!! Let me tell you my story........... I had dropped by this McDonald's early this morning after flying in from Oahu. I decided to come here, as I needed something fast & quick, as I had to be in a bank by 8:00 am, and being that I was up since 3:30 am, I really had to get something in my stomach. Upon walking into this McDonald's restaurant, I see a long line..........maybe about 8 to 10 people deep............ with another 6 or so people waiting by the ordering counter, as they had already placed their food order, and were waiting for their food. Now here's the kicker............as long as the line was in the restaurant, there was ABSOLUTELY NOBODY at the ordering counter taking food orders...........therefore, people who were standing in line were just waiting for a worker to come from back of the cooking area, to the front of the ordering counter to take customer orders. This went on for about 5 to 10 minutes before someone finally came to the ordering counter to take customer orders. Strike one! Now here's the finale.............. When I finally got to the order counter (after waiting in line for about 15 to 20 minutes), I tell the lady - Me: Can I get the (2) Breakfast Sandwiches for $4.00 deal? (As I was trying to buy a sandwich for myself, & coworker) McDonald's Clerk : Oh no, the $4.00 promotion has ended, there is no $4.00 deal! Me: I then tell the clerk............I see, then why are you still advertising the $4.00 deal on your electronic menu then?????? McDonald's Clerk: Then turns to the McDonald's manager, & the McDonald's manager tells the clerk to give me the $4.00 deal. She in turns starts punching up stuff on the register...........I see her punch up random amounts like - $9.36, then $5.71, then $4.63, then $6.51. After trying all kinds of stuff on the register, she tells me that she could not punch up the $4.00 deal, so she tells me if $6.51 was "Okay?", as she didn't know how to ring me up for the $4.00 deal! I in turn looked at my coworker (he gives me the "what the hell" look)............... then I then tell the McDonald's clerk............"that's okay", and we promptly left the restaurant. STRIKE OUT!!!!! From there, I went across the parking lot & walked into the - Hawaiian Village Coffee. No, the Hawaiian Village Coffee didn't have the inexpensive breakfast sandwich I was looking for.........in fact, I didn't even get my sandwich, as I ended up buying some very expensive donuts, as Hawaiian Village Coffee features donuts from - "Donut Dynamite". (see my review of Donut Dynamite). I really hate to write bad reviews, but this particular McDonald's I went to absolutely does not live up to the McDonald's standards, as far service goes, and if corporate McDonald's knew about this restaurant, I'm sure they would intervene. read more

This location in the Kahana Gateway strip mall serves the areas of Honokowai, Kahana and Kapalua. When I worked out at Kapalua for a short while, I'd patronize this store on occasion for breakfast. ATMOSPHERE: It's your average McD's with a single lane drive thru and all indoor seating. Parking is adequate as they have their own sectioned out lot within the complex. EXPERIENCE: For the most part they've been good. I had one big mistake in which I clearly ordered an Egg McMuffin but received a nasty Sausage Biscuit. Had I checked my order before leaving I would've brought it to their attention but I was already at work and SOL, LOL. SERVICE: Nothing to write home about and they need to LISTEN and PAY ATTENTION to orders. There's nothing more frustrating than receiving the wrong food. The customer shouldn't have to double check that employees are doing their jobs. FUN FACTS: I thought I'd throw these in as how interesting can a review of McD's really be? LOL. The Crown Estate (Queen Elizabeth II) owns a McD's restaurant in Banbury, England (80 miles outside of London). McDonald's "Gold Cards" are issued by franchisee's to certain folks which grant them unlimited free grub for life. Some notables are actor Rob Lowe, billionaires Warren Buffett & Bill Gates, and politician Mitt Romney. Not like they need it!? Look what I have found in the #mcdonalds here at #maui ? A local menu different from #california ! It is really an acquired taste for some. The Hawaii Saimin is not a good choice in many levels for someone who loves #ramen. The Hawaiian Local Deluxe Breakfast also an eye opening. I know this is a local breakfast dish but I don't think this #macdonalds is doing it right. On the bright side, the #coffee is serving with local beans and taste pretty good (I think they clean the pot also). Lastly, the McDonald's #hashbrowns never fail me! read more

We were hungry and decided to go through the drive thru for some snacks. We ordered chicken nuggets and HAUPIA pies!!!! The chicken nuggets were fresh , crispy and hot. The Haupia (coconut) pies were also piping hot crispy and fresh. Everything was delicioussssss!! We almost went back for seconds, especially since the other McDonalds didn't carry the Haupia pies. read more

We had to go through the drive thru two times. The first time she forgot two items on the order and made us park in the sun. The whole point of going through the drive-thru isn't to park and wait in the parking lot for 30 minutes just to lower your drive thru times. The little lady working who I think is the manager is very snobby. There is also a huge language barrier and they get mad when you have to repeat the order. read more

It's a typical MickeyD's but with more modern layout in their dining area, which looked clean and quite spacious. We didn't dine here. We came by to only pick up some of their pies. Hawaii is one of the few and maybe only state that still fries their pies. Not much of a healthy option but it just tastes so much better than the baked ones. They still have the usual Apple Pie. However, we came here particularly for the Haupia (Coconut) and Taro Pies. We came by around 5:30 pm and they were out of the Taro Pies. Awwww... No worries as we ended up purchasing 4 Haupia Pies instead and one large fries. Staff was helpful, profesional, and nice. We didn't have to wait too long for our order. I marked them down a star because My Sweetie used the men's restroom and had mentioned it was questionable. Other than that, we were in and out in a breeze and managed to walk to the beach in time to relax, eat our pies, and watch the sunset. read more

(Sunday, July 17th 8:40PM) This McDonald's hires the most lazy, ignorant people I've ever encountered. My daughter stood in the front waiting to ask for sauce for about 10 minutes. She said, "excuse me", four times and was ignored each time. I was also given attitude when I asked for my correct order since they messed it up and the woman with the long braid laughed at me. I was yelled at like a child at 6:45 in the morning when I asked to use the bathroom facilities. I told them I would purchase breakfast once I came back and was told no. So I stood in line when no one was in the store at all for 15 minutes until someone waited on me. I finally was able to use the restroom but felt so much shame for using the facilities. We stopped at this McDonald's a couple of mornings for breakfast during our recent visit to Maui. It was very close to our resort in Kahana, and we needed only a quick stop and bite on our way to Hana one day and to Haleakalā National Park the other. We went inside both days for our to-go orders. The McDonald's itself looks pretty modern, new, and clean. The downside was that they needed more employees on both mornings we were there. There seemed to be one person working drive-thru, one in the kitchen, and one at the front register (who one day was a manager, I think). The person at the front had to take the order and fill them, including drinks, cooking hashbrowns, etc. At any rate, both mornings it took way too long for "fast food." The first morning, I wrote it off as a fluke, but when it happened again, it was obvious that it's *always* like this. Fortunately, we arrived when there was barely a line. It just got longer from there each day. We were there 10-15 minutes each time just to get our orders to go. I just ordered my normal standbys: Egg McMuffin and Egg and Sausage Biscuit. However, it was interesting that they modified their menu a bit for Hawaiian tastes. They offered Taro Pie for dessert and a rice dish for breakfast. There was also Portuguese sausage, but I didn't see any SPAM offered. A SPAM McMuffin or Biscuit is something I could get into. One odd thing I noticed as I stood in line those 10-15 minutes each time was a sign for employees over by the drive-thru and fryer that read: "Be Nice. Speak the language that everybody knows." While I understand the note's intent, I'm pretty sure McDonald's HR department would not approve of something like this. Things that make you go hmm... read more

I've had bad service a few times in the past ordering from this location but my last experience made me decide to never come here again. I ordered a unsweetened iced coffee. When I got up to the window I watched the nice gentleman make a sweetened coffee with cream and sugar. When I asked him if it was unsweetened he looked at the girl that took my order to only have her turn around and give me the absolutely worst bitch face I've ever seen. She looked to be just about out of high school but about ready to fight over the miscommunication. I've never been so disrespected in a drive thru. So, the person I'm assuming was the manager stepped in and handed me a different cup I assumed was my unsweetened coffee. Turns out it was tea. I'll stick to the Lahaina location from now on. You might consider firing and hiring different employees or go broke just saying. read more

They were surprised by a lunch rush at 1230. Long and slow drive thru. The McDonald's app never works for this location it's always confused on the time telling you breakfast isn't available at this time or at lunch time telling you lunch items aren't available yet in the rare occasion the app does work and you try to do the curbside pickup the one curbside pickup spot they have designated always has a car park there. Orders are constantly incorrect but they don't care. It appears that English is a second language for most people working there. read more

SPAM not a well known favorite of the mainlanders , however if you are from Mn the home of SPAM you have to try this at least once while you are here. The Portuguese sausage variety is only available in Hawaii and at the spam museum store in Austin Mn. I asked to substitute spam for sausage on my mcmuffin. The combo of flavors is really great. Sausage can be greasy tasting but this was well balanced in flavor. Highly recommend you try this. The potato cakes were a little greasy so probably won't order that next time. Ordered a kids happy meal and asked to sub xtra fries for the apple slices, confirmed the order 3 times for the xtra fries, especially since I left another McDonald's 4 miles away for refusing to serve me the xtra fries instead of apple slices, which is always an option I'm asked for at every McDonald's location I've been to, and the server said yes. I got back to my hotel and I wasn't surprised; I was given apple slices instead of substituting xtra fries, keep in mind, my receipt also reflected the order of xtra fries. Ok I know, I know this is just a McDonald's but I tell you what this is a fair priced McDonald's with better than average tasting McFood. Breakfast Sandwiches are served nice and hot, hash browns hot and tasty without the nasty greasy aftertaste,e even the coffee is good and doesn't taste burnt. When we are in Maui this is where we eat breakfast at least twice during our stay. This last time they had Banana pies that were so freakin delicious and I mean they already had me with their fried apple pies but c'mon banana OMG. The only thing is they are only for a limited time and as I write this review they probably are not even selling them now. They have Free WiFi which is a plus and to be able to take a respite after a day at the beach to check your emails and catch up on what people on the mainland are doing. read more

First let me start off by saying that I came here for breakfast at 5:30am because it was the only place that was open at that hour. That being said, what I like about it is that they have some Hawaiian related food items, such as the Portuguese sausage, eggs & rice for breakfast! Not to mention that they actually have good coffee, too! This McDonalds was very clean, and the food came out fast.
