Zippy's is such a reliable local spot. Hubby got the Zip Pac Deluxe, and I got the Chicken Trio, which is perfect for when you can't decide between Korean chicken or chicken katsu. Why choose? Get both, plus a piece of their classic fried chicken. The last few times I've gotten the chicken katsu at Zippy's, I've been pleasantly surprised. The chicken was tender and the breading was crispy. Sometimes you go to a plate lunch place and the katsu is all skin and no meat, but not here. Everything came with the usual rice and mac salad, and it hit the spot. One note: normally we eat on the restaurant side, but this time the host seemed to be in a mood and wasn't very friendly. They have great breakfast all day I think, fried chicken, signature chili(like Nalley's canned only more "Zippy" with seasoning) , and plate lunch style offerings. Some people like their baked goods like malasadas and some cream puff types of things. This isn't the best version ever of these foods but a very reliable quality and portion size at very good prices for Hawai'i. Often more locals than us Haole tourists. We ordered the special Korean fried boneless chicken and rice with a scoop of corn and chili with beans for 13.99$ and I got a large Saimin with char su pork fish cake and choy sum. The portion itself is pretty generous, but this place is on the pricier side for takeout. Zippy's itself is quite large. There is a lot of seating and a big parking lot, which was nice. Inside was pretty clean, but nothing special. We ordered online, and it was ready quickly. I also got the lilikoi drink, which was really good. Stopped by here on a Sunday before heading to the airport. @ 9:40 am this was pretty much the only place opened nearby besides McDonalds. I ordered their Kokua Pac, which was special priced at $11.75 for the month of May. Can easily be made into two keiki meals. Also ordered the 3 piece friend chicken with fries and corn. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor -- easily some of the best comfort food I've had on the island. The portions were solid too. The only downside was the wait time. I know it's a chain, but you HAVE to visit Zippy's if you're in Maui. Their Loco Moco was the best that we've tried on the island (and we tried a lot). Loco Moco is a sort of "comfort food" that is a hamburger patty on top of a bed of white rice, topped with a fried egg and brown gravy. It's like a hug in a plate/bowl, so you have to get this if you're anywhere in Hawaii, at least once! We even loved it so much that we used TWO of our meals in Maui visiting Zippy's and having Loco Moco. The interior design of Zippy's is very classic, like a grandma's house almost, with beige walls, and cute Hawaiian themed paintings all over. I'm sure they have lots of other items aside from Loco Moco, but that was the one and only thing we got there, so I definitely recommend it! read more

Searched on Yelp to see if there was a Zippy's on Maui, and was surprised to see it only had 3.5 stars. I was like, "But why? Zippy's is so good!" When we got there, someone in our party greeted the hostess and told her our group size. She scoffed, "Well, I don't see a name!!" I thought to myself, "Ohhhh, that's why." Apparently you have to type in your name or else the hostess will let her pettiness out. Go get a massage or eat a Snickers or something. Jeebus. Rude hostess aside, our waitress was great. Sorry I didn't catch any names. Food was also great. Just like the Zippy's I'm used to. People saying this is Hawaii's version of Denny's or IHOP are doing Zippy's a bit of a disservice. Zippy's is a nostalgic place for my girlfriend in Hawaii. So we stopped for lunch after taking the Maui pineapple tour. Zippy's is often busy and our trip was no exception. The monitor display for the waiting list wasn't complete, the hostess was using a different list and seated other parties that weren't on the monitor. But after about 20 minutes we were seated at a booth. Our server took drink orders and returned with the drinks to take our food orders. I had the chicken 3 ways, Korean fried chicken, chicken katsu, and fried chicken, with French fries. My girlfriend opted for the fried chicken. Both of our meals were good. Mine was too much to finish but I enjoyed all 3 styles of chicken. I snuck a few bites og my girlfriend's Mac salad. A trip to Hawaii isn't complete without some Mac salad imo. Which I hope was true but our group of three decided to just go to the take out side and chose the dine in option. The first impression starts with the hostess who's previous experience must have been working a prison yard. We put our name in for a party of four and the restaurant is not busy. Maybe 6 tables occupied. Told we have a 15 minute wait. In the 15 minutes, locals come in and are directly seated. No wait. We came at around 9 am on a Sunday and waited a few minutes to be seated (it wasn't crowded but I assume they had limited staff to tend to all the tables). When we were seated, we placed our orders and got our food in probably 5 minutes or less which was impressive. The coffee was ripping hot, not the best but did the job. We got the April special which was Korean fried chicken and chili for $14-pretty good deal and a won ton min. For us, the won tun min was the real star. The broth was super clean yet flavorful, and the large had a ton of dumplings in it too! Service was nothing super special, but enough to get what we needed in a timely manner. Tried Chicken Katsu platter for my first meal in Hawaii for the first time! The meal was pretty good I'd say slightly above Ono Hawaiian BBQ.
