I'm biased as we have no Zippy's at home but adore this business! There's two sides of service as you walk in. Fast food style service at the counter and similar seating to the left side. And a host station seating diners in more comfortable booths and tables to the other side. I think some items are just slightly more expensive in the full service side? Think the Dennys of Hawaii which my great server agreed to when I told her how excited I was to be there. They have great breakfast all day I think, fried chicken, signature chili(like Nalley's canned only more "Zippy" with seasoning) , and plate lunch style offerings. Some people like their baked goods like malasadas and some cream puff types of things. This isn't the best version ever of these foods but a very reliable quality and portion size at very good prices for Hawai'i. Often more locals than us Haole tourists. We ordered the special Korean fried boneless chicken and rice with a scoop of corn and chili with beans for 13.99$ and I got a large Saimin with char su pork fish cake and choy sum. The noodles was very generous and great broth. A little sparse in the pork but a lot of goodies for sure! My wife kept dipping into my broth..... Her combo was good and she could only eat half. Snack for later!! Again not the best ever if these dishes but great friendly service and big portions at a fair price. It was nice to visit one of the OG ones in Hawaii, one of the first ones off of the island of Oahu too! Kahului Zippy's was sooo busy when it first opened, I remember! Zippy's flavors and vibes still there. Just decent, good local food! Can't go wrong with the Korean Fried Chicken and Chili with Beans combo, with 2 scoops rice & mac salad! Splash on the shoyu, black pepper, Tabasco and she GO! Great meal! Service was fast and friendly, but on a weekday for lunch Zippy's was pretty dang empty! Wanted to see Jason Momoa's favorite place in Hawaii, so I decided to give Zippy's a try before heading to the airport. I ordered a Chicken Trio: 1 Chicken, Katsu, and Korean Chicken ($20). It was okay. The chicken itself is good, flaky, juicy, and tender. The katsu is good for a grab-and-go style fast food option, but the Korean Chicken was alright. The portion itself is pretty generous, but this place is on the pricier side for takeout. Zippy's itself is quite large. There is a lot of seating and a big parking lot, which was nice. Inside was pretty clean, but nothing special. We ordered online, and it was ready quickly. I also got the lilikoi drink, which was really good. If you guys know what Jollibee is, I think that tops this place pretty easily. read more

When entertaining out of town family, this is a must go to place for good local service and food. With friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere, it's a great place for a relaxed dinner. Our one problem tonight was one of the orders we placed was wrong. A couple of yummy pancakes is not the same as a Belgian waffle, no matter how good. The affected family member chose to just go with it as the server, Rose, was a really nice lady. We also got the loco moco, the Korean chicken plate, the mini fried noodles, and a vegetable omelet. Zippy's definitely lived up to the hype when it comes to the fried chicken. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor -- easily some of the best comfort food I've had on the island. The portions were solid too. The only downside was the wait time. It took quite a while to get our food, and the line moved pretty slowly. If they could speed things up a bit, it would easily be a 5-star experience. Finally got to try the famous Zippy's aka the Denny's of Hawai'i & honestly? I get it. I had the Korean fried chicken breakfast... Chicken was perfectly crispy, came with eggs, rice, & spam! Made me super full is all I can say! My friends all got different things (classic breakfast plates, chili spaghetti, etc.), & everyone left satisfied. I know it's a chain, but you HAVE to visit Zippy's if you're in Maui. Their Loco Moco was the best that we've tried on the island (and we tried a lot). Loco Moco is a sort of "comfort food" that is a hamburger patty on top of a bed of white rice, topped with a fried egg and brown gravy. It's like a hug in a plate/bowl, so you have to get this if you're anywhere in Hawaii, at least once! We even loved it so much that we used TWO of our meals in Maui visiting Zippy's and having Loco Moco. The interior design of Zippy's is very classic, like a grandma's house almost, with beige walls, and cute Hawaiian themed paintings all over. I'm sure they have lots of other items aside from Loco Moco, but that was the one and only thing we got there, so I definitely recommend it! read more

Finally made it around to trying Zippy's after hearing about it on all my past visits to the islands! We came at around 9 am on a Sunday and waited a few minutes to be seated (it wasn't crowded but I assume they had limited staff to tend to all the tables). When we were seated, we placed our orders and got our food in probably 5 minutes or less which was impressive. The coffee was ripping hot, not the best but did the job. We got the April special which was Korean fried chicken and chili for $14-pretty good deal and a won ton min. For us, the won tun min was the real star. The broth was super clean yet flavorful, and the large had a ton of dumplings in it too! Service was nothing super special, but enough to get what we needed in a timely manner. The chicken was good too, but we did have a lot of fat chunks in our pieces which we weren't the biggest fans of, but perhaps just a personal taste thing. read more

Stopped by on the way to the airport at 4:30pm on a Sunday and initially turned towards the dine-in side which was completely empty save for two tables of people, and was told there'd be a less than 20 minute wait. Which I hope was true but our group of three decided to just go to the take out side and chose the dine in option. Zippy's is a nostalgic place for my girlfriend in Hawaii. So we stopped for lunch after taking the Maui pineapple tour. Zippy's is often busy and our trip was no exception. The monitor display for the waiting list wasn't complete, the hostess was using a different list and seated other parties that weren't on the monitor. But after about 20 minutes we were seated at a booth. Our server took drink orders and returned with the drinks to take our food orders. I had the chicken 3 ways, Korean fried chicken, chicken katsu, and fried chicken, with French fries. My girlfriend opted for the fried chicken. Both of our meals were good. Mine was too much to finish but I enjoyed all 3 styles of chicken. I snuck a few bites og my girlfriend's Mac salad. A trip to Hawaii isn't complete without some Mac salad imo. This was one of our favorite meals from our trip to Maui! Unpretentious, straight-forward, and solid. Reasonable prices, quick and friendly service (shoutout to Sarah, our waitress!). This beat some of the other more "popular" places in Kihei in our opinion. This is a must try if you're visiting Maui! Wow, the quality was amazing for a diner. We had the breakfast- French toast & omelette. Both were flavorful and fluffy, very fresh tasting. I took a star off because the prices were pretty insane for random things. Like 5.70 for a soda fountain ice tea or 4.50 for a side of wheat toast. Besides that, great place with great quality. A big bowl of chili topped with chopped white onions? It's pure comfort. Every bite is packed with flavor and just hits the spot. Tried Chicken Katsu platter for my first meal in Hawaii for the first time! The meal was pretty good I'd say slightly above Ono Hawaiian BBQ. Chicken Katsu was fried well with flavor and chicken was not dry. It went well with the teriyaki sauce too and also the macaroni salad was decent too. Overall 7.2/10. If you're a tourist like me and want a simple meal this is the place to go! Although it is a little pricey (paid $17) but portions are decent. Only downside is if you're looking to dine in it may be a little inconvenient as my party was told to wait 15 minutes. So we just went to order takeout and sat on the tables to the right. I cannot visit Hawaii without visiting a Zippy's. It is the ultimate Hawaiian comfort food spot. Of all the times we have visited Hawaii we only tried Zippy's for the first time last year on the Big Island. They are all over Oahu. I was ecstatic when I saw there was 1 location in Maui close to the airport. This was our first meal and it did not disappoint. We got a plate with korean fried chicken and chili with rice. I usually don't eat chili but I do at Zippy's. It is the bomb. Korean fried chicken, bomb. My daughter got a mini chicken katsu and she enjoyed it. My son got a bacon cheeseburger and he liked it too. Prices aren't cheap but nothing is, we accept that. The food is solid and we dream about coming back. Service was exceptional as well. IYKYK. After watching a YouTube video of Jason Mamoa eating here, husband and I had to give it a try on our first food spot in Maui. Unfortunately it was nothing to rave home about. I got the Zip Pac Deluxe. The best part was the beef. It was seasoned and sauced up excellently and it was tender. The macaroni salad was good. Everything else was underwhelming. Spam, breaded fish, and chili was nothing special but edible. Now the fried chicken I was a disappointed because it seemed like a popular item and thought it would be good but it was very dry and the flavor was lacking. Husband got the Surf Pac. His only had the fried chicken and beef but double serving of it. The portions are big but still expensive but everything here is going to be expensive and while husband did enjoy his food I thought the taste and enjoyment of the food did not match the price tag. We wanted to grab a bite to eat before checking in to the hotel we were staying at and this location is conveniently close to the airport. We do not have this in NJ so I'm very impressed that this is fast food! We ordered the Korean Fried Chicken Plate to share. The portion is generous and was enough for 2 people. We've tried Korean Fried Chicken from many restaurants before and this ranks among the top that we've had. We also enjoyed the macaroni salad that came with this dish and ordered another side of it. The spam was good, it's spam so. The fish filet was probably the best part of it to be honest, flaky and tasty. The teriyaki beef was also good.
