Zippy's is such a reliable local spot. Hubby got the Zip Pac Deluxe, and I got the Chicken Trio, which is perfect for when you can't decide between Korean chicken or chicken katsu. Why choose? Get both, plus a piece of their classic fried chicken. The last few times I've gotten the chicken katsu at Zippy's, I've been pleasantly surprised. The chicken was tender and the breading was crispy. Sometimes you go to a plate lunch place and the katsu is all skin and no meat, but not here. Everything came with the usual rice and mac salad, and it hit the spot. One note: normally we eat on the restaurant side, but this time the host seemed to be in a mood and wasn't very friendly. This review is for a dinner time visit on June 25th (probably 6pm-ish). I've been to Zippy's before, but it was my first time at this location. Searched on Yelp to see if there was a Zippy's on Maui, and was surprised to see it only had 3.5 stars. I was like, "But why? Zippy's is so good!" When we got there, someone in our party greeted the hostess and told her our group size. She scoffed, "Well, I don't see a name!!" I thought to myself, "Ohhhh, that's why." Stopped by here on a Sunday before heading to the airport. @ 9:40 am this was pretty much the only place opened nearby besides McDonalds. After a long flight, we were hoping for a quick meal to kick off our Hawaiian adventure, especially since it was recommended to us. I know it's a chain, but you HAVE to visit Zippy's if you're in Maui. Their Loco Moco was the best that we've tried on the island (and we tried a lot). Loco Moco is a sort of "comfort food" that is a hamburger patty on top of a bed of white rice, topped with a fried egg and brown gravy. It's like a hug in a plate/bowl, so you have to get this if you're anywhere in Hawaii, at least once! We even loved it so much that we used TWO of our meals in Maui visiting Zippy's and having Loco Moco. Of all the times we have visited Hawaii we only tried Zippy's for the first time last year on the Big Island. They are all over Oahu. I was ecstatic when I saw there was 1 location in Maui close to the airport. This was our first meal and it did not disappoint. We got a plate with korean fried chicken and chili with rice. I usually don't eat chili but I do at Zippy's. It is the bomb. Korean fried chicken, bomb. My daughter got a mini chicken katsu and she enjoyed it.
