Ever since *that* movie, I've been apprehensive of the golden arches. Burger King? Sure. Taco bell? No problem. But those golden arches. No thanks. I just haven't been back. Until today. Today I arrived at the McDonalds on Upper State, expecting to be greeted by the familiar, horrible, green and yellow decor. I wasn't disapointed, (although this was the last time today) as the green and yellow trash bins were the first thing I saw as I exited my car. But something was wrong. These trash bins were shoved into a forlorn corner of the parking lot. Throwing open the entry door, I stepped inside, sidestepped an orange traffic cone and a dropcloth, and walked into a mod, airy, antiseptic airport lounge. The old reliable green and yellow had been replaced with an adult lounge of earth tones, brushed aluminum and pub-style tables. But I couldn't dwell on the interior too long, as I had to look out for the painter who was painting the ceiling and shuffling around those dust-laden ceiling tiles. I stepped up to the counter to place my order - 10 chicken nuggets, please. At least the food is still inexpensive. I was left to wait next to my friend the painter until my food was up. Once my number was called I eagerly snatched the bag and high-tailed it out of there. At home, I opened up my nice 40% post-consumer recycled fiber paper bag to find 10 consistent, piping hot little nuggets of processed chicken and two containers of barbecue sauce, as requested. 9 chicken nuggets later (1 chicken nugget was set aside for my sugar-momma of the evening) I was left with a passable level of satisfaction. The interior was cold and impersonal and the service was institutional. The nuggets tasted fine, if not memorable, which is fine by me, as I'd rather forget the whole experience anyway. read more

When I am working in Santa Barbara, this is the closest place for coffee and such. What amazes me is how often they botch the order. It is no less then 1 in 3 times that they screw it up. Ask for a coffee with 4 crèmes in it and get a couple of miles away to discover that they decided that you should have sugar in there as well. Thursday I was in there and ordered a big mac combo and two fila o fish sandwiches. Those things aren't cheap. Paid for them; on getting home discovered that they decided that I only needed one; There must be better ways to run a business and earn a profit then to cheat your customers. read more

Please don't come here !! We are unhappy with the quality of food served and the manager's rude and unprofessional behavior with customers. We ordered buttermilk crispy chicken tenders and the chicken was rubbery and we were not able to pull it through. We showed it to one of the staff and she politely said she will get fresh piece. The fresh piece arrived and we were disappointed as it was same like the previous one - rubbery and too hard to pull (completely stale).. we thought to discuss with manager but he was rude and in front of all customers just took back the order angrily and gave the refund. Such a rude behavior that he didn't even feel like acknowledging the fact of poor quality food served or apologizing. we didn't wanted to get in quarrel with him, so took our refund and left. This will be a mixed review. We had 2 issues, both of which were resolved to our satisfaction. 1) even though my husband's milk was four days before the expiration date, it was sour. They replaced it with a new milk which was fine. 2) The TV was set to CNN channel which was showing violent news about the middle east & genocide. There were a lot of small children in the restaurant. Three young ones in the booth next to us were asking their mom why all the people on the TV were crying. The mom was upset. I asked an employee if they would please change the channel & was told that could not be done. I asked for the manager & she said the only other channel she could put it on was sports. The change was made & the mother was very relieved & grateful. If like to add that the food was delicious, the service fast & the staff very friendly. read more

It is sad that the McDonald's at the location upper state street closes their ice cream machine, when the lobby closes at 1130pm. I had gone in around 930ish and they already closed it down. Really disappointed in the customer servicing as the cashier was not an ounce friendly when I greeted her and proceeded to gossip with her colleague while I was attempting to pay. After visit the art museum and the old court house decided to have a soda to relieve the thirst and some chicken nugget for snack. Their soda had the best deal. I did notice there were a 30 minutes limit post on the wall. Everything is fine with this location EXCEPT THE CRAZY PRICING. Again today the prices went up AGAIN! I travel a lot and like to patronize McDonalds. Prices in Santa Barbara are crazy high! I expect them to be higher here (a bit) but not like this. $1.50 for a tiny tiny soft-serve ice cream cone that is 50 cents pretty much everywhere across the US. Look, the food is the food. This place gets 5 stars because they offered my son a sticker, which he lost at some point while we were eating. A worker over heard me asking him what happened to his sticker. He care by with two more stickers! When my son ate all of his food I went to get him an ice cream cone, but I asked them not to make it too big because it was for a two year old.
