My friend and I frequent different places around Buffalo to hear live music. This was someplace new and we were pleasantly surprised. The owner was the person greeting people at the door. Everyone was friendly and the service was great. We ate before we came but then decided to grab some chicken fingers and french fries while we were there. There is music 5 days a week and everyday is different. They have karaoke, open bike, a spoken word event and then various bands of various genres. We will definitely be back. read more

Penny Lane has a new owner and lots of changes. First off, the food was delicious. We were a table of 4. We went for the live music, but we all got drinks and lunch. It was a beautiful summer day and the music was outside in the courtyard. A very nice way to spend an afternoon. The inside has seen several changes. The stage, I think being the biggest. It has been relocated from the left, to the right when you walk in. I also noted right away that the hippie blankets on the tables (as table clothes) were missing. This was I'm sure a COVID change, because of disinfecting. My husband personally had issue with the blankets on the tables because of germs. They did add character tho. What a fun night at Penny Lane. As their ad says 'a cool place for groovy people'. It definately has a fun eclectic feel. I enjoyed spending time just checking out all the interesting items scattered around. There were old concert posters and pictures from the 60's like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Behind the band was 'the most interesting man in the world' Dos Equis beer man 3d poster. The ladies room was lined floor to ceiling with Rolling Stone magazine covers. Fun reading! We all ordered food with names like Vinny Barbarino panini and an Everyone love BLT sandwiches. Obviously the names don't make the food but it was all decent. The panini was huge! A really good blues band was performing. We got there early but I guess at some point they charged a cover. I'll be back. read more

I really love the ambience of this place, but on a restaurant front it left a lot to be desired. I'd been dying to check this place out for a really long time, always seeing the sign on the side of the road, just never got the timing right because they always open later than I'm usually out. One night we eventually stumbled in to meet up with my dad, who was there for Open Mic night. I didn't order any food that night, but we sat in the back and listened to the live music while playing Jenga and Connect Four. It was actually pretty fun, and I fell in love with the space pretty quickly. Just waiting for the stars to align again. When we finally returned, the experience was pretty subpar. There was live music so we had to pay a $5 cover just to get in. We waited a while for a waitress to come over, and I was generally unsure if we ordered food at the counter or had table service. After a few minutes I asked for a couple of menus and a waitress came over to our table after. It took her about 15 minutes to come back to our table after the initial drink order to take our food order. I ordered the Veggie Wrap, which included some weird veggies - artichokes and caramelized onions. I decided to just give it a try anyway, had never had artichokes before. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing, I really didn't like it. Even if I had, the whole thing was so saturated that the poor spinach wrap could barely hold everything together. The thing was coming apart in my hands and I resorted to eating it with a fork. Whatever kinds of wraps they get, it definitely CAN'T hold all of the stuff they pack in there. And, I just realized that wraps come with a side of chips or soup/salad for additional charge, and I wasn't given or offered any sides at all. There weren't many people dining, most just hanging out at the bar, so I don't understand why service was kind of sucky. I definitely want to return to this place to try again; like I said, I may have just ordered the wrong thing. Their menu has flatbreads and paninis that I'd be willing to try. I've been wanting to check this place out for years and finally did last night. There was live music (phish cover band) and the place was booming with business. There is a cute outdoor patio in the front of the building or you can enjoy the music driven interior. We sat at the bar and were lucky enough to meet the owner, who was as friendly to us as the regulars enjoying their night. Penny Lane is in my ear, and I wish she would get out, because it's kind of creepy, I mean other than an insect who goes and crawls into someone's ear? Not to mention the fact that's she'd have to be f***ing small as f*** to even get inside the ear. But she's in there alright. And it bothers me. What to get: Pretty much everything is good, I like the bacon and egg bagel, breakfast food, etc. What else: When they first opened, they had a girl doing hula-hoops outside wearing ripped ballet clothes. That was interesting. I've Lane down my recommendation for many places in Buffalo, but give me a Penny for my thoughts on this one. Little adorable family-owned spot that hasn't been here long, trying to make it in an area that's dominated by Mazia's (who have been known to campaign against other local businesses and be hyper-competitive, but you didn't hear it from me), and are holding their own, keeping their heads above water, and providing a unique, homemade and delicious menu to Clarence locals and Buffalonians. If you haven't given Penny Lane a try, come out and see what you think. Before the end of the meal, she'll be in your ear and in your eye, which might require a napkin and some eye drops. Enjoy a nice homemade meal under the clear blue suburban skies. Or slate grey, usually, since it's WNY. Also try nearby Buffalo Joe's, closer to Williamsville also on Main St, which is a similar and similarly delicious concept. Such a fab bohemian/hippie hideaway in Clarence . Penny Lane Cafe is such a fun , eclectic gem , unlike anything else in Clarence , in fact , unlike anything else in any surrounding areas . It's a bit divey , a bit kitschy , but all around groovy space. Is it a bar ? Is it a coffee shop ? A quick spot for dinner with live music on a Friday night ? It is all of the above . I loved the quirky 60's rock n roll , Rolling Stone vibe. I'm quite surprised there was not one hint of nag champa incense in the place . The Beatles music playing in the background is the perfect obvious choice . There is a coffee and tea bar, so you help yourself to locally sourced coffee and teas after ordering. The menu is unique with some very interesting flatbread options . Mine included lox salmon , red onion , eggs and capers and was quite good . Options are somewhat limited, but they are fairly adventurous . My partner did have a simple everything bagel with sausage and cheese which was delicious . Mimosas are on the brunch menu , as well as a tempting bloody mary offering . Our waitress was sweet ,but she seemed to struggle a bit taking our order , and then brought us the wrong plates . This was quickly rectified thankfully , because the flat bread she brought me looked divine ! It wouldn't necessarily fit the eclectic vibe, but I would love to see a basic breakfast option on the menu-oatmeal, or bacon eggs and toast..other than that I can't find room for improvement. This is a fun and funky little place in Clarence. It's a perfect location for meeting friends as I come in from Rochester. There is limited parking out front, but around the side of the plaza/complex there seemed to be more if needed. Everyone working in the cafe was friendly, helpful, and laid back. I felt welcomed and the space was inviting. I wish the day had been warmer, as my friend and I would probably have sat outside. Instead we chose a taller round table near a window. (The stool chairs were great with rungs for your feet - BONUS). Actually - that was my only complaint, the other tables were really LONG and it felt like you were sitting miles away from your dining partner. For my meal I ordered a "cluckin pesto" panini. The panini bread was done to perfection, and there was plenty of pesto. The chicken was cooked to my liking, but it may have been a bit too much chicken for my sandwich eating preferences. For a side I went with a pasta salad. Vegetarians beware - there was ham in the pasta salad. I'm not complaining of course - I just want you to be aware. It was actually quite tasty. I ordered a Tart Cherry Bomb to drink. It came it a delightful glass and lived up to it's TART namesake. Yum. I ordered take out coffee to go for my drive home, and ended up drinking it before we left. My friend and I got into our conversation and I was sipping away. I stopped into this little place and it reminded me of being somewhere on Elmwood Ave. It's eccentric and eclectic ambience is unmistakable. I love all the decor hanging around. The owner works onsite...and she's a true people person. She was doing some minor adjustments to during our visit and you can see the pride in her eyes. The outside looks like a small park of sorts ...there was chalk drawings, benches and just a little hang out area. Now to the food ....you can never go wrong with a turkey club and chips right. They actually allow you to pick your flavor and serve a bag. . I'm not a fan of kettle chips ..so blah ... The sandwich while constructed well and generous ...someone over did it with mayo ...so it was sliding off the bread with each bite. We actually had to use a knife to take some off. They have a nice assortnent of smoothies The flavor was on point. They also have a great selection of tea. There was a band scheduled for the night when we arrived that we were unaware of and a cover charge they were nice enough to waive because we were only there for food and early anyway. Overall, the setting was exactly what you would expect, dimly lit and some great Beatles music playing with some very creative decor. After 3 visits to Penny Lane, I feel compelled to write a review. I will always give a place 2 or 3 visits before doing so. Sometimes you get a bad experience, once, then good ones. Had this been the case, I wouldn't review it. However, after 3 disappointing visits, I'm here. I went to see a band that I like. I ordered food and drink each time. The service is borderline terrible, with only 1 or 2 servers on a packed Friday night! It takes FOREVER to put in your order, and even longer to get your food. And the server NEVER comes back. My last time there, the bar tender actually took care of me, barely. After reading other reviews, many seem to have the same complaint, terrible service. Adding more staff on Friday and Saturday would make a world of difference. My other complaint is the food. I had something different each time. Each time, I left some behind. The food is simply subpar, very disappointing. Dried out chicken, very tough beef, over-priced dishes for the portion size. About the only thing I really like is the atmosphere of the place. This is probably our favorite place in Buffalo right now to get a yummy wrap! We first started going to PL in the spring of this year. Again, Yelp pointed us in the right direction for good eats. If you don't live in Clarence, it's a bit of a drive, but worth it! Our go-to wrap is the Zesty Club Wrap - shaved turkey, bacon, tomato and lettuce on grilled tortilla wrap with a zesty Cajun mayo. Choice of wraps include wheat, spinach and tomato. We like the tomato for this wrap! Wraps come with your choice of kettle chips as a side. We have also tried the tuna wrap and the smoked salmon salad. If you like a fun and funky atmosphere with lots of Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan playing on the stereo, eat in and have a cup of locally dried teas with your wrap. There is also ample seating on the patio outside (if you bring your dog on the patio, they'll give them a bowl of water). The only thing keeping PL from a 5 star rating is consistency and service - sometimes the wraps are packed with more lettuce than other times (and less of the other toppings) and eat-in service can be very slow at times. It's pretty rare that I give a rating this low, but it's important. I have come here 5 times now. The bar has always been great. Fun decor and always fun. One day we decided to try dinner. There is always fun activity in the after dinner hours. But here's our dining experience. We ordered dinners (burgers & wrap with salads). We were waited on by the owner. Took forever, but when the burgers came, my friend bit into his and it was raw! Cooked on the outside but literally cold inside- cold to the point there wasn't even blood or juice running from it. Never got the salad. We sent the burger back, my wrap was fine. When we got it back - literally the same burger with a bite taken out but this time cooked. Yikes! The owner was unapologetic and then when we said we never got the salads the comment was "well, why didn't you say something". Sorry, the food may have improved- but it will take a lot for us to go back for dinner. If you go, just stick to drinks. read more

Sides are chips ( your choice of flavor) quinoa, or soup. I did the chips. I also ordered a cup of the creamy potato soup. Soup was good but a literal CUP. Food was great, we had two piano breads They were the "Across the Universe" which had Lox salmon, lemon cream cheese, capers, green onions, diced tomato, mozzarella for 12.95 and "Savoy Truffle" which had Basil pesto, marinated artichoke, roasted red peppers, green onions, brie, drizzled with truffle oil also 12.95. Both were great and about 5" x 10" in size, about the same as eating 3 slices of pizza. The posted an Instagram photo of a s'mores martini so I got that but it didn't look anything like the photo, not even the same color. This is the coolest place I've ever been to in Buffalo. Came here expecting a typical, artsy cafe. Ended up ordering ice cream for the kids and sitting out on the eclectic patio.... Complete with hula hoops, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, and bright colors everywhere! When we came in for the live music last Saturday night I couldn't believe the improvements that had been made by the new owners. The band was located opposite the side of the bar so you could actually hear yourself order a drink! Wow what a unique hidden gem! The ambiance is truly magical. Even the bathroom is covered in rolling stone covers . So cool. Very creative menu , down to the beverage options. For example , they have lavender water and a selection of locally hand made teas. They also had vegetarian options, a senior citizen discount available and a nice kiddie menu. There was so many different things I wanted to try. My strawberry rooibos tea was delicious. We started with the pepper dip. It was fluffy, cheesy and delicious. Grilled bread is always a nice added touch. The smoked turkey wild rice soup was indeed smokey and flavorful. I added the leftover pepper dip on top of the magic mushroom panini for a little more flavor. All in all this is a must stop for your list for any venture . Tucked away in a plaza, you might miss this place from the road unless you're looking for it. However, once you're there it's crazy to think anyone could miss it with its bright outdoor decor and seating area. The atmosphere inside is even more unique and eye catching, leaving you looking around at all of its quirks while you wait for your food. I had a pesto chicken sandwich paired with a chilled watermelon soup and bruschetta bread for an appetizer. The bruschetta was served on a painters board, which really added to the experience. They also have a large selection of locally sourced teas to support the community. If you're just stopping in for a drink at their bar, you might even be able to catch a local band on their stage. This was disappointing. My partner and I attended a live music event this past Saturday, and we are hesitant to visit Penny Lane again soon. After paying the cover charge to enter (which we didn't mind since we like supporting the arts), we found a table and sat down. As we had just come from dinner, we planned on having a few drinks and perhaps an app or dessert later on. However, our service that evening was far from stellar and something that seems to be a theme amongst other low-star reviews of this establishment. First of all, we have visited Penny Lane other times for unique non-alcoholic beverages, tasty food, and to take in the out-of-this-world atmosphere of a Beatles themed café in Clarence. Props to the owner for the witty puns describing the food and beverage, and the beautiful twinkle lights and other décor that make the aesthetic so on point. The food is good, the drink is good, the décor is pretty--but the service makes me deduct three stars from what could be a five star review. We were seated ~8 PM, and had our drink orders taken pretty quickly. The server asked if we were ordering food, I remarked we had just eaten but to keep a menu here so that we could peruse and perhaps make a selection after listening to the music for awhile. But here is where the problem was--we received our tea and kava (a root beverage) around 8:05 and WERE NOT CHECKED ON UNTIL WELL AFTER 9 PM. Now, the server was busy, I get that. My patience was tested and disturbed by the fact that every single table around us was checked on--REPEATEDLY--for food and beverage, for general busing, other pleasantries, etc. It was almost as if we were in a bubble that was being ignored. At one point, my girlfriend literally set a stopwatch on her phone to see when the server (who never introduced herself once, so I can't even mention it here) stopped by. It went on for well over thirty five minutes, until we finally lost hope and she went to the bar to order herself a beer. After paying for the beer and sitting down drinking it, we waited until she finished her beer before reassessing the situation. At that moment, even a few minutes after she had finished her beverage and at this point we had been sitting without service for over an hour, the server came over and asked if we were still 'all good.' I tried my best to be polite and pleasant, but frankly I was ticked. I sternly explained the situation and she said she had 'assumed we were good with our drinks and just wanted to chill.' I'm sorry, I've served before, never is it appropriate to leave a party unattended or not to check on them for that long. Especially when our drinks had been empty for so long. She apologized profusely and offered free food on the house, but at this point, it was just too little too late. She told us not to worry about the drinks we hadn't paid for, that she'd cover it, and we left. The experience has soured us for Penny Lane. We ended up going to Sweet Life Dessert Experience and that redeemed the evening, but we were planning on spending more time and money by purchasing food and drink at Penny Lane and the server's lack of service deflated that balloon. read more

Great lunch! This was our first family lunch here; my wife and I have been here for evenings with friends and we wanted to try something " different " with the kids. We've been to moes, bill grays, chipotle and santoras for lunches more than I care to count and I wasn't having it today. We had heard that the food was good and decided today was the day for something out of the ordinary. What a great decision. Friendly service, eclectic and creative design, and a fantastic meal. We all orders wraps and they were a good size and I left with my belly satisfied. My 9yr old stole half of my big. Mac wrap( yes... it tastes like a Big Mac). We had a turkey blt that was fantastic and a few buffalo chicken wraps that were spot on . Pro tip: if you want a taste of two Sammiches my son and I traded 1/2 of our wrap and sandwiches so each of us enjoyed the Big Mac and turkey blt. I came in with my dad. They said sit wherever. We went to sit and were told oh wait not there how about at the bar. We were like um no it's morning we would like a table. Were seated. Waitress did not even offer us water or coffee. We sat for 30 minutes, and no I'm not exaggerating. Nobody came to serve us. Same for everyone around us. There was a couple seated next to us that had been there before us and wasn't served any beverage in that time either. It was ridiculous. We left. Worst service I have EVER seen. It first started with a little experimentation. A little then led to a lot. I went from place to place to get my fix. It wasn't enough, though. No, I took it upon myself to make my own. A little more here and a little more there; using every piece of equipment that I could get my hands on. Unsatisfied I took it a step further and before I knew it, I had my own supplier. I am ashamed but I have come to a place where I need to admit it.....I am a coffee snob. Lo and behold, I took a much needed break from work with a drive down Main Street and although I knew I hit a wall for the day, I could not justify spending $5 on a "craft" coffee in 85 degree weather. That was until I passed by a sign where I caught the words, "Cafe," and "Happy Workers." When I see the word, "Cafe," I am always intrigued, seeing as though I share the same thoughts on the perfect little corner coffee place on a stone laid street in France...stop it, you all do, too. But, let's all be honest and acknowledge that this sort of Parisian cafe really does not exist here. However, "Happy Workers".....well, now, that is something worth stopping for seeing as though I would basically frequent a flu shot clinic twice a week if someone finally treated me as if my business mattered. That being said, I stopped in. This place is tucked away in a little strip of businesses, but it is smack dab in the middle so it is not too hard to find. I was greeted by chalked pictures on the ground and a garden-esque surrounding before walking through the door. When I entered, I did not expect the availability of alcohol. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it threw me off as the other side of the location was a very quaint slightly eclectic coffee shop. I had a difficult time reconciling the duality of Penny Lane; imagining Happy Hour colliding with the typical laid back coffee drinker reading Vonnegut. But, if it works, it works. I did not attempt to eat anything, although the menu looked appetizing. I was greeted by a Happy Worker. No, seriously, she was a happy worker. I was flabbergasted. But not as flabbergasted as when I was served by the bartender, who was also a happy worker! My simple order of an iced coffee, was handled by shiny happy people. Not to mention it was LESS than $5. Heck, it was less then $2. The coffee itself was smooth and roasted locally by Kornerstone for Penny Lane. I am always happy to see small businesses networking and helping other new small businesses. The brew method is not monumental, so for those of us who like to pretend we are the end all knowledge-bases on all things "Press," do not be so above little shops that try out good coffee with airpots. If you insist on an aeropress, feel free to be buy a pound of their special branded/roasted for Penny Lane beans. This truly is a cool place that I plan to visit quite often as long as everyone remains happy. There is definitely not enough emphasis on keeping employees happy and giving back to those who work for you. I mean who can't spend $2 at Tim Horton's and feel like faceless cattle? read more

Great food in a hippie atmosphere. Sandwiches were great! Will be back soon. The staff did a great job. The music was excellent !

What a cute little cafe in this part of town. I stopped in for lunch, the staff was super friendly. The owner is very nice, she has such a great eclectic style and it really comes through in her business as well. It's definitely not your cookie cutter kind of place. I loved the decor! I placed my order at the counter which was a tuna wrap on a tomato wrap, cup of broccoli cheddar soup and an unsweet tea. Grabbed a seat at the bar, they do have a great selection of craft beer in bottles, I noticed while sitting at the bar. My order came out very quick. I'm not sure my wrap was tomato, normally they are an orange color but this was not, and didn't taste like tomato, but it was good anyway. The tuna wrap had avacado, celery, and cucumber in it. Very good, just needed some sort of seasoning, I just added a little salt and pepper. The soup- so amazing! It is served with this toasty little bread which I dunked in the soup, so delicious! The wrap also came with a little side of homemade applesauce. I'm not a huge fan of applesauce, but I ate all of it! The prices are fair for the amount of food and quality you get. I went there to see a friend play last night. He was excellent, however the prices were not! There were only a dozen people in there and they charged me $52 for 2 bottles of $10 wine. I confirmed the price online. The bill didn't even list the correct wine we were drinking. I guess I ended up paying for the music since there weren't enough customers to spend money to support the musician. read more
