I had really high hopes for this place. But the food last night 7/14/21 was so horrible. My husband and I both ordered the Steakburger with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. After a long wait two peices of cornbread was brought to us with butter. The outside of it was piping hot and the inside was room temp with a distinctly frozen/microwaved taste. Neither of us finished our piece. Then the food was brought out and the carrots were bitter and obviously microwaved. The potatoes were microwaved. If it wasnt for the steakburger patty with onions (which is really hard to screw up) you wouldnt know there was actually a chef in back instead of someone running a microwave. I'm still wondering. My husband doesn't complain and didn't this time either, but on the way home he mentioned twice how disappointed he was in the meal and apologized for taking me there. My husband and I were on our way to see a nearby show that started in an hour. When Golden Corral had a line out the door we headed to McFarlain's across the street, which also had a lot full of cars but we thought we'd give it a try. I ordered the chicken pot pie. Delicious. It came with mashed pots and choice of green beans or corn. I got the green beans which were some of the tastiest I've had. I wasn't going to eat the mashed potatoes to avoid a few carbs, but once I tasted them, I was in. Seeing the plates of cornbread around me I asked to try some. It was quickly brought to me, no charge. I was a huge fan of this honey corn bread. Yes, it was very cakey. I LOVED it. Melt in your mouth good, for sure... Husband had the burger and fries and he finished every bite. We even ran into some folks from our home town. They told us they return to McFarlain's often. I know we'll be back. read more

We've been coming here for years and the quality is consistent. For a quick comfort food meal we haven't found anything better in Branson. The meatloaf is one of may favorites but the fried green tomatoes are amazing. Definitely give it a try you won't be disappointed. read more

We are here on our way out of Branson because there are signs everywhere and we thought, why not do one last annoyingly touristy thing while we are here. The place was dead (8:30 AM) surprisingly, and it's odd that you have to walk through an IMAX to get to the restaurant entrance, but for a party of 16, we were seated right away so no complaints! I had the pancakes, they were drenched in butter (no complaints on that either) and my husband had the biscuits and gravy. Our daughter is two and had the basic "one scrambled egg, bacon and toast" kids breakfast, and we all finished our plates. Yummy! The coffee was good, our order was correct (impressive for such a large party with picky kids), but our waitress seemed inconvenienced to be serving us, and just acted like she was having a bad day all together. Being a former server myself, I get it. Everyone has their days, and it didn't effect her tip. But it was kind of a bummer note to end our vacation on, that's all. Bottom line: Food was your basic breakfast food, but delicious. Atmosphere was what you would expect from a home-cooking chain. Service was disappointing. read more

Great experience here. Had the meatloaf sandwich. It was as expected and satisfying. Wife got the turkey meal. Once again, as expected, everything was tasty. Service was speedy and the wait staff were extremely helpful and in good spirits. If you like cornbread, I'd recommend you try theirs... it comes served with a dollop of honey butter. Ate at this family restaurant prior to seeing "Son's of Britches", which is also in the IMAX complex. I had the bean with bacon soup, and it was what I expected-- good and hearty! My two companions had the chicken and dumplings and the chicken pot pie, and they stared those items were very good. We all agreed that the cornbread was outstanding! As I've stated in other posts, the dining experience in Branson can be vast, however the off-season (January through early March) can limit what is available. Immediately the staff was welcoming and courteous, seating us right away. The menu selection is what I'd describe as Classic American Comfort dishes in a one of a kind setting. The appetizers arrived hot and quick, the fried green beans were especially crunchy and delicious. The chicken strip basket was quite tasty, the chicken well seasoned and fried perfectly, not greasy to the touch in the least. They are served with fries and white country gravy for dipping, however I recommend substituting the gravy for their house ranch. The Ozark melt was extremely tender and juicy, with all the flavors coming across. Overall the dining experience is one I'd recommend to couples and families alike looking for great classic American cuisine without breaking the bank. read more

This was the first time I read the reviews and was thoroughly disappointed! We arrived at 6:30 was told it would be 15 minutes. We sat at the checkers table and played a long game of checkers. At 7:00 I ask how much longer it was going to be. Without ask a name or anything the girl said a few more minutes. At 7:09 I ask again and the girl (a different girl) ask what number pager we had, we told her and she seated us. The chairs are quite uncomfortable. (They are wood without any cushion) we asked to move and was allowed to move to a booth. We ordered water and nachos. Water and nachos came in reasonable amount of time. I had to stop waiter and ask for more water. I had to stop him again to ask for the bill, I then watched him take order of the table next to us and then deliver drinks to another table. He ten looked at us and said O just a minute. He returned with the bill and apologized for taking so long and said he was really busy , he had 3 tables ! The food was just so so at best. The service was worse the the food. The restaurant is in the middle of the building that houses the IMAX Theater. We were visiting Branson used Yelp ratings. We were Not impressed! read more

Vigilante Taco was cold Chicken strip basket was OVER COOKED Fish and chips had soggy breading Buffalo boneless chicken wings were ok. I had the chicken sandwich grilled with a side of sweet potato fries. The chicken sandwich was properly cooked all the way through. Both the fries and the chicken were cold when they were served. Two other people in my dinner party said that their sweet potato fries were served cold as well. My husband ordered liver and onions. Sadly the dish was only served with 1 tablespoon of grilled onions. The overall taste of the dish was terrible because the liver wasn't cooked with the onions. He had to request more onions from the waitress. After some time of waiting he was given more onions. The state of the bathrooms was sub par. It looked like no one had emptied the trash and switched out the toilet paper dispensers in days. We came right at 5pm and the restaurant wasn't even full so I don't understand why the bathrooms were missed before the dinner hour. The waitress service was ok. Terrible: seats were wet, their "melt in your mouth pot roast was too tough to eat, waitress was no help with the problem, we had to bring it home for our dogs. Coffee was Luke warm and the cornbread was too sweet. Went there for our anniversary. Won't make that mistake again. read more

We've had trouble finding decent food in Branson and this one of the better restaurants we've eaten at. Wasn't crazy about the atmosphere but that's mostly because old fashioned isn't my thing. Service was average. Didn't know about the rising tables until after we left so that was disappointing. Make sure to ask about this! The buffalo chicken sandwich was very good. The cornbread was great, I'm not sure what they put in the butter, but it's great. We got the fried green tomatoes for an app, and it was amazing!! My sisters boyfriend raved about this place. We walked in to an empty, dead restaurant (but should mention it was Sunday evening). The food selection is nothing but fried and the salads looked pitiful. We order our food with the nacho appetizer. Cornbread came out and it was amazingly good (which is why I gave it 2 stars). This is probably the only redeeming thing about this restaurant. The nachos came next and the were a solid 'meh'. Looked like vomit on a plate. Nothing appealing to the eye. I ordered a hamburger with fried green tomatoes. Our order came out and I could have fed a family of 4. Massive amount of French fries. The fries were luke warm and hard. I took off fried green tomatoes to eat separately. They were not very good. The breading was extremely salty. I took off the breading and just at the tomatoes. Those were good. Now for my hamburger. It too was a salt bomb. I could not even eat half of the burger. My sister got the fettuccine Alfredo and it was more like Alfredo Fettuccine. The fettuccine was swimming in sauce. I could go on and on. Lastly, when we got up to leave the restaurant had filled up some...full of the elderly, so the extreme amount of salt makes sense. I'm headed home to throw up and run off the unnecessary calories I consumed. You'd be better eating at the Golden Corral across the way. Skip this place, actually run. Spend your money elsewhere. I've visited many times in the past and tonight was the worse. My meatloaf dinner was just warm and my husbands chicken fried steak was hot and delicious. Our granddaughter had the chicken tenders and they were hot. Our waitress forgot to bring our cornbread Until I asked her about it. She never asked if we needed drink refills. The dining room was on a Saturday night at 7:00 p,m. and empty during heavy rains. Service and food should be a 10 on an evening like this. read more

Food was great, coffee was delicious, but service costs two stars. We had the buffet upstairs and were finished with our meal when our drinks finally came. We were here on Monday, April 6, 2015. Four adults and two children and a baby. Wonderful food. My son and I had the chicken and dumplings, very outstanding. My son continued to talk about those dumplings for two more days. Also, they bring you a plate full of their homemake cornbread with large scoops of whipped butter with honey in it on top of the warm cornbread., ohhhh, so yummy. Went here as I was told they had the best fried chicken. I was very disappointed as the cornbread was hard and cold and the fried chicken was barely warm. I sent my food back and left. We ate there several times with my parents last fall when we all visited Branson. They have my vote for great comfort food...I had the Chicken-fried chicken, a burger, and pot roast. I also loved the fried green tomatoes. The 5th star would have been earned if they had ever had any "home-made" cinnamon rolls any of the number of times my father asked for them...he even made special trips early in the morning on two separate occasions. I believe they were lying and don't really serve cinnamon rolls at all. I will say this, if you drive by the place and see a tour bus JUST pulling up, park your car QUICK and RUN for the entrance...we did THAT several times, too! read more

Service was good and the appetizers were okay. Otherwise the food was only fair. My ribeye was overcooked, the green beans were from a can. My wife had their "signature" Vigilante taco that had about a quarter cup of cold chili over cornbread and covered with lettuce, a little cheese and four tortilla chips.
