Drinks: 4/5 Menu is full of your run of the mill pub drinks but also specialty cocktails. Drinks were good! The "How I Met Your Mother" inspired cocktails are a nice touch. I had the "Pineapple Incident" ($13) which was sweet and well priced compared to your average NYC cocktail. Service: 4/5 Went on a Wednesday night because other spots in the area were packed! We were immediately welcomed and it was pretty full for a weekday but we were able to get a booth. Our waitress was very friendly and gave great recommendations! It did take some time for us to get our drinks but understandable due to the place being busy. Vibe: 2/5 I've only seen like two episodes of HIMYM so I'm not a huge fan (but I am one of the few people that love the HIMYF spin-off). I went with someone who was a huge fan but didn't think the bar resembled the show that much as a fan. To me, it just seemed like your average pub. The pictures of the cast in the show were a cool touch! Mold was the only thing I could think after our trip here. Usually a bit of mold is not to bad and understandable, but the restrooms ceiling looked like it might fall apart due to it. The drinks themselves were also nothing too memorable and had a surprisingly low selection for such a big bar. Great service. Friendly staff. Decor is nice. The food and drinks were alright. They have a fair list of dinner options. Cool place for how I met your mother fans but otherwise it's a little bland for a pub. They check to see if people are vaccinated, but only after people sit down and take their masks off. No social distancing. Everyone is next to someone else, but they do give you some choice other than the reserved booths. They have one bathroom that's somewhat clean. My wife and I were in the city for a concert and wanted to try McGee's Pub which was recommended by a friend. Upon entering we went upstairs to have dinner. There was a bar and tables to the front of the building. Our waitress greeted us and took us to our table. The pub had a cozy feel to it like most pubs so of course we had to order a burger and a beer. We both had McGee's Burger with Onions, Bacon, Cheddar & BBQ Sauce, Served with Fries and a beer on tap. All was very good and we enjoyed our meal in a comfortable atmosphere. For those of you who don't know, McGee's is the inspiration for McLaren's Pub on the hit TV series How I Met Your Mother. I came here before a Broadway show and ordered their signature burger. It was really delicious. And the service was super quick. Which you need when your rushing to see a show. It can be a bit touristy but they were taking all of the Covid precautions and I felt safe. Will return next time I see a show in the area. Don't come here if you are expecting good food and drinks. If you are there to lavish in the HIMYM tourist trap then by all means order 1 app and 1 crappy drink, take your pictures and get out. The atmosphere is quite lovely but choice of music for an Irish pub was bazaar. I tried the "wait for it" and "iced chocolate cocktail". They were just run of the mill drinks that were prepared by an amateur mixologist or maybe beer tender. We ordered 2 appetizers, the wings and spinach dip. The wings were okay and the spinach dip had zero flavor. 4 mixed drinks and 2 appetizers ran us 100$ after tip. Which would have been fine if the food and drinks were good but our meal definetely wasn't worth what we paid for. Our most disappointing meal of our whole trip. read more

We got in right away but weren't handed a menu at all. There's a QR code on the table where you can order drinks but didn't include food at all. Overheard the server saying to a different table the food menu was on the QR code that has the wifi username and password. Finally the server came over and asked if we needed anything. We said we ordered drinks from the QR code. If you have apple you need apple pay set up to do it, or if android, you need google pay set up. THIS IS THE HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER BAR. Yesterday, we wanted to go to Columbus Circle's Holiday Market. We found it after a loooong walk across Central Park. It was packed! I'm not talking packed where you can move around freely. I'm talking shoulder to shoulder, no movement happening. We decided to abandon our plans and head over to McGees, an amazing Irish pub, just a couple of blocks away. I'm pretty sure everyone who works here is from Ireland. Our server was, and she was amazing! I've never had a bad bar experience in New York City. These people are professionals. I loved this pub so much. Long and narrow, traditional bar. Unbelievable beer options. It was really crowded, but we got a table. It was a lucky Saturday for us. My wife and I had a couple of local IPAs and shared some potato skins. Had a couple more beers before heading out. Please check this place out if you are in the City. If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Central Park and Columbus Circle, go here. I went to McGees for the first time this October and enjoyed the ambience. The food and beer were good too, although I wouldn't say they stood out over the next place. The staff were very friendly and quick which is always a plus. I guess this is the bar that inspired the show "How I Met Your Mother" (?). So there's a bunch of stuff that has that theme and that make the bar unique and fun. Overall, it's a midtown bar with a tv show twist. read more

Very disappointing, walked in feeling the magic of HIMYM, the names if the cocktails excited me. There is nothing pertaining to the show in the bar, only cast photos and the cocktails are just renamed bar standards (rum&coke, long island tea, etc). The vibe was okay but the cocktails were weak and for a group of 3 they add a "mandatory" 20% gratuity which they claimed is posted at the door which is not. Stopped in on our way back from the Central Park! We had no idea this was the bar that inspired the show "How I Met Your Mother"! What a great spot; very comfortable! We sat at the bar and Michelle was an excellent barkeep! We started with bourbon Manhattan that was great and the wife ordered the Robin Sparkles which she loved! I asked the bartender what would be better, the burger or the Shepards pie and she adamantly told me to get the burger! I obliged and ordered the McGee burger with sweet potato fries! My wife had the chicken noodle soup and a side of fries! The soup was fantastic but the fries were just OK! All in all a great surprise spot for lunch! read more

If it wasn't the "How I Met Your Mother Bar" I would probably give it 3 stars because it's just an Irish pub in Midtown. I'm pretty sure I went here when I first moved to New York and they didn't have any of the stuff they now have all over the walls in honor of the show. But also I think the show had just started and the fandom was nowhere near the level it eventually grew to. They even have bus tours stop here to check the space out. Which is annoying but I digress. I came to kill time here last week before an event and grabbed a pint and a whiskey. Their house ale is pretty good actually and one of the beers on their happy hour for around $6. It kind of tasted nutty like a cross between a brown lager and red ale. The whiskey ginger I also had (cheers to you Robin, you scotch/whiskey drinking Canadian, you) was impressively strong and also only around $6 on happy hour. I do enjoy how they have a similar booth set up. When you look around, you're like . . . . yeah I guess I can envision MacLaren's being almost like this place. I can't speak for the themed food and cocktails. Yes, they have some of their menu named after stuff from the show: "woo wings, the bro code combo, tedmobyisajerk. com (Chicken Jerk Wrap), The gay pirate, Daddy's Home, Wait For It, Robin Sparkles, Barney's Blackout cocktails priced around $13 and under, which isn't terrible. Chuckles. Last but not least, definitely take a picture of the cardboard cutouts of Barney & Robin. It's a must. Great food and atmosphere, although myself and my 40-something compatriot felt like the oldest people by far in the bar on a Friday evening as the clientele seemed to be mostly Gen Z. Also oddly for a bar, most of them at the tables were not drinking alcohol. The food is fantastic. The soups are great and although you wouldn't think it unless you try it, this place has some of the best chicken parm in the city. The sandwiches, wings, and bangers and mash all on point. The hostess who became our waitress (blonde girl in ponytail who worked Friday night 3/11) was the definition of rude. After sitting us (like we were inconveniencing her), she went away for about 6-7 minutes. When she came back she had this attitude that was borderline insulting. We asked her what the drink options were and she rolled her eyes and told us. Then she walked away from us with this attitude. We got up and left while she was gone. The atmosphere was nice! Dimly light with the music loud enough where it isn't over bearing, but still can have a conversation. I prefer the wings and the three cheese Mac with bacon. The wings were okay (kinda disappointed me in bar wings), but the Mac & cheese is what saved the entire meal. The portion of the Mac and cheese is definitely something that can fill someone up! A crowded and divey neighborhood watering hole with a pretty good beer selection and friendly service. I didn't catch our bartender's name but she was an absolute sweetheart. (She had dark hair and I think she might have been Irish...). I was there with a group of about 20 and she managed to keep all of us libated and still tend to the rest of the bar. I didn't stay long, but while I was there I had a Yuengling chocolate stout that was surprisingly good. A little heavy, but not unpleasantly so. The bar has two floors. I didn't get a chance to check out the first floor but the second floor is dim, kind of narrow, and can get crowded pretty quickly. Plus the staff are constantly weaving their way through the crowds with plates of food, so it's not uncommon to get jostled while you're enjoying your beer. read more
