Well, where do I start. The hostess was nice and we were seated right away. We were given menus and told our waitress would be right over. That's where things took a turn. Our waitress, Liz, was about as friendly as the wall we were staring at. We ordered a wine and water since she wasn't keen on finding out what non alcoholic beers may be available. Since it was Friday night, we both ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good. The fries were homemade and good. The coleslaw was the worst we'd ever eaten. The cornbread was cold. When I asked Liz if it was supposed to be cold, she hesitated then said yes (even though it came with butter???). She asked if we'd like it heated and I said yes please. Five minutes later Liz came by and literally threw a plate of warm cornbread on our table and kept walking (sorry we ruined your flow!). We've never in over 20 years given such a small tip (less than 10% and probably should have been less). This was our first time here and clearly will be our last. Fair food and terrible service. Clearly they appeal to the drinkers in the neighborhood because they sure don't appeal to anyone who wants a nice meal after a hard week of work. read more

I have no good things to say about this place. For one, the employees don't seem like they want to work considering they walk by the host stand 30 times ignoring customers and for two, the food is sub par at most. Not coming back again this was their third strike for me. read more

Not impressed. Way too much light for dining/drinking. Nothing wrong with having a good time, however, pretty loud and not a recommended place for decompressing after a long week at work. Unless you appreciate unfiltered noise. Food was ok. Reuben was chewy. Corned beef was good however, whoever made the sandwich needs to appreciate the sandwich. I've been going to this restaurant my whole life. I may be giving this business 4 stars off of nostalgia and not the actual food that is served, but I always seem to have a good time when I go there. The food is just average- the buffalo chicken tenders and nachos and some of the other appetizers are probably the best items on their menu, whereas the entrees are largely mediocre. But oh, the nostalgia. The buzzed/drunk 30-40 year olds smoking outside in their little smokers' pavilion in the 10 degree weather. The unlimited popcorn. All the Phillies and Eagles games I've watched there. Taking the scenic Fox Den road to get there from Newark. I love it! This place has some decent food, but if you didn't grow up in New Castle County and/or are traveling and visiting from another area and are looking for a bar/American cuisine type restaurant, skip McGlynn's and go to Klondike Kate's on Main Street in Newark or Kid Shelleen's on West 18th Street in Wilmington. read more

McGlynns has something ridiculous going on, apparently they have free food during Happy Hour. What!! Friday they had nachos, roast beef subs and fried clam strips. Free almost always tastes good, but the food really was! Especially the roast beef which was rare, just the way I like it. Rumor has it sometimes they have vodka pasta or alfredo, and they have something different every day. This was the first time I actually ate anything other than popcorn, we will definitely be stopping back for more! read more

I've been going to McGlynns Polly Drummond for over 20 years. After last night I doubt I will return. Compared to previous visits, they've become stingy with their pours. We asked for extra crispy wings and had to send them back because they weren't cooked. The nacho chips in the Nacho's were stale. And the ladies room was filthy with a disgusting dirty ring in the toilet bowls. This isn't the first time in the recent past that I was disappointed, but this definitely sealed the deal for me. Nice local pub. I go here several times a month. They have good food specials. My favorite is the Italian grinder. The meatloaf platter is also excellent. The stuffed burger is really good but i would not recommend it on 1/2 price burger night, the last two times I ordered it was too dry. They have a good selection of craft beers as well as the usual supects and the staff is friendly. read more

I've been going to this place for a long time and really like the staff , especially the bartenders but today ( 6/1) something happened that turned me off probably for good. Went to order two turkey burgers for pick up. I've been doing this since the Covid -19 quarantine started. They told me that I couldn't get "specialty" burgers for take out; you had to come in and eat these at a table. Now I've been getting them throughout the pandemic but now, magically, they can only be served inside ! Hmmm, let's think about this. If you want a "specialty" burger you have to go inside and then you will have to tip. Now I tip at least 15% ( most times 20%) whether I'm picking up or dining in. I know that's how the staff makes their money and they work very hard. What I don't like is being played and that's what happened and they thought people were not smart enough to notice. I drop a great deal of money there each month but that stops now. I don't know on what level this decision was made but it shows very poor management skills. read more

A great local pub that's going through some changes in management and menu. They have great specials each night- AUCE shrimp , prime rib, burger etc. menu was a more casual sandwich menu and they are changing to dinners. I can only say their sandwich and soups are great the roast beef and French dip rock and haven't changed. They have a meeting room that holds 50 and includes av. What has happened to McGlynn's Pub on Polly Drummond Rd? The last two times I have been there I have been served a salad and they have forgotten the dressing and you have to wait for 10 minutes for the waitress to come back. Tonight, we waited for 10 minutes to give our name to the hostess - alas, no hostess was there and I had to flag someone down to seat us. The popcorn machine started on fire. I was served my salad with no dressing, AGAIN, and my husband was served the wrong sandwich. It wasn't until at least 15 minutes later that my husband's correct sandwich was brought to the table that I could tell the waitress that my salad had no salad dressing. The table across from us purchased a dozen steamed clams for $12 and they only served 10 clams. We won't be back read more

I come to this restaurant 3/4 times per month. Normally I am completely satisfied. Last night however,was an exception. First, it was burger night so I thought a burger sounded good. Our meal started after our party arrived in three separate groups. I do understand that this may cause confusion but the hostess was told of the number of people in our party. So, as I was saying, once everyone arrived, we ordered appetizers. They were good and brought out quickly. This is however when things began to go south. Along with the appetizers a stack of dishes and silverware were set in the middle of the table. Problem was there were less dishes and silverware than guests at the table. No extra napkins. Then when the food came and almost everyone ordered burgers it was a struggle to get silverware for everyone. Again napkins were requested. The burger I got was so greasy I only took two bites. With no napkins my hands were covered in grease. I ended up using a napkin that was already used by my mother just to be able to clean my hands. Condiments were never brought to the table which I thought was crazy because almost everyone in our party ordered burgers! Finally, my glass was empty halfway through the meal but I was not offered a refill. In conclusion, I don't know what went wrong last night but I was left wondering if this experience was a sign of a bad night or an indication of a much deeper problem. I do know that if your restaurant is offering a featured dish - that dish should leave the kitchen as the best example of that category on your menu in hopes that it will inspire you to order from that category on future visits. The reality of my experience last night was the entire experience had no inspiration in any area of the visit. Not the food, service, or the atmosphere inspired me. In conclusion, I will return to McGlynns again in the coming weeks because after many good meals I am hoping that my experience last night was an anomaly. Even the best restaurants have an off night. I wrote this review in hopes that the staff reads this and work to eliminate the possibility that any patron will have a meal like I did last night. I was surprised how bad the food was based off how many people were here ... $13 nachos with virtually no cheese or meat... Chicken cheesesteak looked like canned chicken and cheese spread, panini was untoasted. Unless you are just coming for drinks ....avoid avoid avoid. I have been a regular at McGlynns for years now, and there simply is not a pub and restaurant exactly like this. The bar tenders are friendly and always know your name and favorite drink. Large flat panel TVs are always playing your favorite game and the popcorn machine is always on. If you're after something more substantial, then the restaurant menu doesn't disappoint. With a large imported beer list and an atmosphere conducive for a good time you can't go wrong. read more

This bar is a convenient spot to get away to on any night of the week. They have a good selection of beer and a cool layout. That being said, this place is dirty, wet, smoky, and has a sloppy appearance. But it also has a lot of potential. Maybe new management and renovation would help. Food is bland. But the service has always been solid. It reminds me of "Moes tavern" from the Simpsons, or if you will "Moes family feedbag". Look, I ain't gonna take my wife here. But I will show up for a flyers game and several beers with a friend. If you're a clean freak, this isn't the place for you. Biggest complaint, floor is always full of popcorn. They need to clean or sweep it more , much more, often. Food is ok for pub food. Bar is fun with a steady clientele. Eveyone knows everyoe.
