Sakura is a neat little spot in Chesapeake by Sams club that is an all-you-can-eat sushi. Décor if over the top Japanese, the staff is attentive and welcoming, and the food is delish! Menu items include gyoza, edamame, soups, sushi/sashimi (by the piece) and of course rolls. The only hard part is choosing from the tasty selection what you want and not being able to eat it all in one visit. I highly recommend you swing by if your hungry and get some. read more

Sakura was a wonderful pace to dine. It has beautiful Japanese decor. Staff were excellent. I ordered sushi rolls, gyoza, and miso soup. The mango Hawaii roll was delicious! It was fresh and full of flavor. I also enjoyed the warmed edamame sprinkled with salt. Yum! I loved the energy in the dining room. I got the lunch chicken katsu don($16) and it was made in about 20 mins. The food itself wasn't too bad, probably just above average. The chicken had a really crispy layer. Staff had some mistake on my groups order, but they made it right by remaking it and letting us keep the wrong dish. The inside was decorated very nice. When we walked in the atmosphere was very specific to what you would expect, & they did have a really cool fish tank right at the front. A friend of mine was going into labor and hadn't ate for like 14 hours because they kept pushing off her time to go back for the C-section. I share this because she messaged me asking for a bunch of different food that would have had me go to a bunch of different places. But when I walked into Sakura, I was greeted immediately and they helped me concoct an order perfect for what my friend was looking for. It was late and they were super efficient and even offered a free dumpling to the new mom. My two year-old son was with me and they gave him a sucker while we waited. The overall kindness was absolutely incredible. Now, while I didn't eat their food, I did take it to the hospital and I tell you that once she was allowed to eat, she said it was absolutely amazing. I always recommend this place for AYCE sushi however I always felt that they provided too much rice in the rolls (this could their way of trying to get you to eat less, in the grand scheme of things) so my usual thing would be to remove some of the rice before I eat my rolls. Now I noticed that they charge a fee if you don't eat all of your rice, which kind of turned me off otherwise I do love this place and the service isn't bad. I'm blown away by the experience--no lines, amazing service. Overall the fish quality was nice! I did enjoy the salmon sashimi. The rolls had many unique flavors. Stopped in for lunch and took advantage of their "all-you-can-eat" offer. Here you order items from their special menu and everything is made to order. Options are a little bit limited, but reasonable, and this enables the chefs to keep up with demand. Food was delivered promptly (often sushi can be exceedingly slow!) and fish was fresh and tasty. Several items were deep fried (shumai - unexpectedly) and gyoza, but either oil was not hot enough or basket was overcrowded as they were very greasy. Dining room is very kitschy, with myriad knickknacks and decorations - so much that it seems almost claustrophobic. (Really, you can take down the Christmas decorations in June!). Tables in middle of room for grubhub and doordash, along with menu washing stations are off-putting holdovers from initial pandemic reactions and need to be readdressed in a way that is more appropriate. read more

What a nice surprise Sakura turned out to be. My brother and I decided to eat here for lunch and opted for the all-you-can sushi lunch. We couldn't believe the quality of the rolls provided on the menu and were very happy with the sushi and other snacks. One rule to the all-you-can eat menu is you must eat all the items you order otherwise they will charge you for the dish. I found that to be a bit overboard, but can certainly understand they don't want people abusing or wasting food. Overall, great sushi and service. read more

Due to this, I cannot comment on the atmosphere or ambiance of the restaurant. The food is delicious period. There's nothing more to say there except get it and have your pallet be satiated. I would give this 5 stars except that I ordered dumplings one day and they forgot to include them. That was very sad so minus 1 star for the unfortunate service there. Mango salad was inedible bc mango was sorely not at all close to being ripe. Sent that back. Delicious Rainbow and Spicy Friend rolls. Also fresh Tuna, Salmon, Eel, Red Snapper, and of course Krab. Enjoyed the avocado handroll and the squid roll. Place was cluttered with too many knickknacks along with delivery bags in sight of us diners detracting from the experience. I've been here twice now and for an AYCE, it's pretty decent! As of this writing (March 2023), the prices were $16.99 for AYCE lunch for an adult and $13.99 for AYCE lunch for a child. I went to Sakura the first time with my husband and I recently visited again with my youngest who is a big sushi fan. I think for an AYCE spot, they give you quite a nice menu to choose from. First page is all the soups, apps and all the entrees from the kitchen. Second column is the drink list. On the other side of the menu is all the sushi items. They don't have sashimi which is what I like to eat mostly, but I understand why it's not an option on an AYCE menu. There are a lot of options, ranging from classic rolls like California or Boston, handrolls, nigiri sushi, and special rolls. They have a vegetarian section too. We've ordered a variety of things like: *miso soup - it's the perfect thing to wash down your sushi as you stuff your face *the shrimp tempura udon - I found the broth to be a bit too starchy. Udon broth tends to be clearer and very thin, like a broth. I could have done without all the shredded veggies also. The noodles were nice and bouncy which the winning factor for this dish. *shrimp tempura - This is more of a dipped in thick batter than a lighter batter rolled in panko crumbs then deep fried type of tempura. It was still good, but would have liked the lighter, panko crumb crust. *BBQ squid - pretty tender, but the sauce was ok. *various sushi and rolls like California roll, rainbow roll, spicy friend roll, Greenbrier roll, rainbow roll, I've had most of their nigiri sushis. The sushi is probably the best part of the menu. They are not over stuffed with rice, tightly rolled and tastes pretty fresh. I definitely think the price is fair for the choices you are given here. Not sure if $13.99 was necessarily worth it for my kiddo, since my youngest only ate part of the shrimp tempura udon and one California roll. She could have easily been satisfied with just the roll, but tried to see if she would be up to trying more things to get more value. I should ask next time if they would let us order an individual roll a la carte. I mean, they do that for take out orders, so why not? Doesn't hurt to ask. The best way to tackle an AYCE spot is to go with a group of friends or your family, provided they all are adventurous eaters and like to try new things. That way, you can order more different rolls and get to try more things. Being solo with my kid, we could only order so much variety and not be wasteful and then get charged for it. Great food!! Started it off with a bowl of edamame, miso soup, Sakura tataki. Then 5 mackerel, 5 tuna, 5 salmon sushimi, followed by 5 bbq eel. My beverage of choice this evening was green tea. I had to give it 4 stars because the tuna sushimi didn't feel or taste fresh. It tasted a little pasty on the palate. With a little bit of pressure you could almost smear it, so I couldn't finish it. Everything was amazing! The waitresses never hesitated to take our orders, despite the quantities of each item we ordered. I went here based on other yelp reviews and I feel let down. First off, this is NOT a true Japanese restaurant. It is operated by what I believe are Chinese, businesses minded people. They care about volume and that is all. If they cared about quality the menu and the actual food would reflect that. The worst items were the deep fried gyoza and the rolls that contained their poorly made tempura batter. The straw that breaks the camel's back is the price you pay for eating here. There is no way that a place of such low caliber can demand such a price, especially in the Norfolk region where there is plenty of competition. ***If you are looking for an all you can eat roll place (not sushi) this might be it, if it weren't so expensive and the food was better. The servers didn't even know about Asahi or Sapporo AND they didn't offer a glass. An authentic Japanese place will always bring you a glass as drinking directly from the bottle is taboo. I came in on a Sunday afternoon by myself. I was really impressed with the service and ambience. I got seated right away and served fast. Usually when I go in as a party of 1, service takes longer. I got served back to back by at least 4 different people checking on me every several minutes offering drink refills and checking if I wanted more to my order. I ordered 3 different rolls: spicy girl, dragon and Greenbrier. I have to say spicy girl and Greenbrier were my favorites. And the food was fresh and tasty. The only downside is the limited amount of specialty rolls and there are no prices posted on the menu or around the restaurant for all you can eat. In the afternoon on a weekend it ran around $19 which is not bad at all. I'd definitely go again. read more

Celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday here. Although she's from Hawaii and use to eating sushi all the time, this was the place she found in VA that she felt came close to what we're used to eating. Service was friendly but I was surprised they were Chinese and not Japanese. Again coming from Hawaii, I'm use to saying the food items in Japanese like Ika Kara'age but they didn't know what I was saying. This place is still my favorite All You Can Eat sushi restaurant in Hampton Roads!! I recommend to all of my friends in the area that like sushi. Prices have gone up for both lunch and dinner but it's like that at every AYCE sushi restaurant. Staff is friendly and check on you throughout your meal but not too overbearing. It is a smaller space so it can get kind of loud when crowded or if there are young children getting antsy. Some of my favorite items are shrimp gyoza, kani salad, volcano rolls, and dragon rolls. I have ordered some here some time ago. This will be the last. Nothing taste fresh, my order was ready in about 5 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant just to see the inside. This place is worst than a dive. Dimly lit dining area has virtually no natural light. All I could think of was this going to be bad. There is an outside sign offering ALL YOU CAN EAT...Hummm so my order must of come off the AYCE offerings. There was a distinct taste of something less then preservatives, almost a house hold cleaner like pine sol. Sorry I didn't order from a place I passed on the way here. My order was actually $7 more than the luncheon special I found after my order was paid for. I did try eat 3 pieces ans the rest went into the trash. Needless to say, the next day I awoke feeling like everything was going to return up 5hr wrong way. My stomach cramped ALL DAY! Let me not over share, so I will just end here. Everything on the AYCE menu looked good so I went for that option at $22 per person. The waitress was very helpful and friendly and so was the manager. She checked on us very often. She even gave me a good lunch charm as a first time visitor. Everything I had was delicious! The sushi roll was fresh and flavorful. They give you 6 pieces at a time. The fried rice was good. The chicken teriyaki was very flavorful but the star of the night was the beef short ribs! It was tender and had a nice sweet sauce finish. As I am typing this, stuffed as ever in my chair, just got to say one thing. Holy crap. I usually don't write reviews on AYCE(All You Can Eat) sushi buffets because to me they are all the same. But for Sakura, I was more then impressed that I felt the need to. Plus, its one of the few AYCE sushi buffets that dont charge extra for sashimi. First lets start with the quantity. Don't make the same mistake I did, thinking its a AYCE sushi buffet, and they would give you small orders. I ordered 5 pieces of sashimi for each item. When it came out I could not believe how big the pieces were. You order 5, they might give you 6, or more haha. Their white tuna aka oil fish sashimi was amazing, which differs pending the restaurant. I didnt order too much of their special rolls, because they are usually the same type of ingredients. Im giving this rating based on the quantity they give you and menu. The menu is pretty big, lots of different choices on the cooked side, and different items for the raw side. The dessert, was actually fried ice cream and homemade taro ice cream, both very good. I ordered the fried ice cream twice actually. Service was fast, and they were very courteous. Ill end this review with a warning, they do mention on the menu of a penalty for not being able to finish. Since service is pretty fast, I recommend starting light then ramping up the orders. I live in Ghent Norfolk, and I say the drive to Chesapeake is more than worth it. Go check this place out! read more

First time here. Came on the suggestion of a friend. Came specifically to check out their all you can eat lunch. Two of us with a coke and green tea was about $42. Really hard to beat that for a sit down lunch. Place is in a strip mall right near Walmart. Clean when you walk in. Booths have dividers in between, staff wears masks and gloves and masks are required to walk in. So if you're concerned with the Covid stuff there you have it. On to the food. We had Odom and miso soup. HOT like burned my mouth hot (usually soup at AUC places is luke warm at best). Soup was flavorful and delicious! Shrimp shumai, gyoza and spring roll appetizers hot flavorful as well. Had several different rolls and pieces. I put names on the pictures below to make it easier to identify. All the raw fish was amazing! Not tough like some but creamy like it should be almost melt in your mouth. The rice was sticky and not dry. I even enjoyed the fried rolls. I'm normally not a fan because they come out like a big piece of tempura with no flavor. This place managed to keep the taste and flavor of the roll with just the right amount of tempura to give it the extra kick and flavor. The sauces on top of the rolls was good too. I am generally a pretty liberal star giver because I take into account where I'm eating and what I'm paying for it. I'd give this place a solid 6 out of 5 stars for the AUC sushi option.
