Unfortunately I had need to use the services of McKenzie Mortuary. My partner of 16 years passed in home hospice. The Hospice arrived and he was pronounced. I called McKenzie the arrived and were extremely respectful of him and the family. The next morning I arrived at the Mortuary I was provided with options . Cremation, traditional embalming, viewing , traditional service, burial at sea, , ashes scattered at sea. And more . I was not rushed. We chose cremation as per his wishes. There was a selection of urns& I was informed I could order from an outside vendor as well. The viewing was done with respect and honor to him and the family. The staff have been amazing. The financial side which is an unfortunate reality was reasonable and varied by the options you chose. read more

This review is long overdue (about 3 months). I actually thought I had wrote one and posted it until I realized I didn't. Your mind kind of leaves you when it's grieving. (Prompted by God) On a Wednesday I called around using Yelp looking for a mortuary. Mind you, I thought my dad had at least six months to a year to live. I ended up speaking with Bridgette the funeral director at McKenzie. She gave me all the necessary information I would need when the time came. All prices were upfront, and additional information was on their website. Well by that Saturday, my father passed. It was a shock, but because I had spoke to Bridgette I knew what to do. There was a little hiccup in the beginning with the body pick up,(by a contractor)....outside of that I have nothing but praises and gratitude. In short, Brigette helped me navigate a very difficult time. She and her staffing not only met my expectations but exceeded them. For example, my father's body needed to be transported to Northern California. The burial cemetery was telling me one thing that would've cost me thousands of more dollars. Brigette informed me that was incorrect and long story short she navigated everything saving me, thousands. I can't tell you how much that helped me. This is just one of the many things that she did to help us. I really hope I've conveyed how impressed and how happy I was to have chosen them. While I think it might be strange to give a review on a mortuary, I drive by this place daily because I live near by. When my mom passed away in October and the sheriffs told me to find a mortuary, I looked at my husband and said "how do you do that? Do you yelp it?" I was actually serious and not joking. While we found McKenzie from a Google search based on proximity to my home, I didn't check the reviews. And it wasnt until now that I thought to. Everyone who works at McKenzie is so gentle, kind and extremely compassionate. The most remarkable quality is their ability to maintain open communication and get everything I needed in a timely manner. They were patient while I picked out urns, didn't strong arm me into paying for one in house, they even separated the ashes into separate urns for me. So even though death of a loved one isn't a pleasant experience, I do have peace in my heart driving by McKenzie Mortuary knowing they took such great care of my mom and me during a difficult time. In September 2023, I lost my little brother to cancer. The most difficult part is finding a mortuary service that will treat not only the family but my brother with the love and care in this very difficult time. We went to a number of mortuaries and they are worse than used car salesmen. Ken McKenzie greeted us and unfortunately, I had an attitude based on all the other meetings we had where they didn't want to answer questions and provide direct feedback. McKenzie didn't try to upsell us as we were solely seeking cremation services. He was in contact every step of the way....from the time they picked up my brother at City of Hope in Duarte, to his transport to the cremation facility, to the ashes being transported back to McKenzie. We were even able to provide our own urns to have them filled with my brothers ashes. I receive frequent text messages and would refer their services to any other family during this most difficult time of loss. I was very distraught planning my only child's funeral on Christmas Day. I went to Greenhills to find out information about getting a cremation plot for her, and they tell me would cost me 4500 to cremate her. I had to go talk to my son-in-law about this his mother told me to go to McKenzie because she's used them numerous times. I cannot tell you how compassionate and amazing these people are that work here. It was way cheaper they even filled jewelry that I brought them with my daughters remains and gave extra in case I need to put it in another jewelry piece. They didn't make me feel like I was just a sale to them. They actually cared very kind. They were a lot better than greenhouses. I'm so glad I went to them. When my husband passed away and we were overwhelmed by selecting a mortuary, my sister in law googled, found McKenzie, and after reading reviews I agreed we should meet with them first. From my very first contact with Ken, I knew he was our guy, and scheduled an appointment for I and my in-laws to meet with him the following day. They agreed immediately after meeting him - "he's our guy." We didn't even bother with other mortuaries; we all instantly knew Ken McKenzie was the one we wanted by our side as we laid my husband to rest. I cannot tell you how kind and compassionate - and funny, and charming (things I didn't think I needed, but did) - he is. He made the worst process in our lives so far so much easier than it might have been otherwise. He's a truly good, genuine, kind soul, and I feel grateful to have met him. He also went a step beyond for me. My mother and uncle died ten days apart five years ago, and when my sister finally sent their ashes to me (choosing my birthday, a few weeks after my husband died, to finally do so), she sent them in what can very simply be described as a terrible, disrespectful state. I didn't know what to do, so called Ken for advice, and he jumped in to assist immediately, and within 24 hours both my mother and uncle were finally respectably laid to rest. I rarely post on Yelp, however I feel that it is warranted. Recently my 21 year old nephew lost passed away. His loss was very emotion for my entire family. It didn't come without drama or heartache from the other side. It made a sad event difficult to handle. I want to personally thank Ken from McKenzie mortuary for helping us navigate through this difficult time. He not only was our funeral director, he also took the roll of counselor. He was our go between with the other side. Had it not been for Ken I don't think this would have ran as smoothly as it did. Ken is warm and comforting. The mortuary is small and had a warm and comfort feel to it. My nephew looked so radiant and angelic. I had never seen someone that had passed look so good.
