Daniel Camacho and Luyben Dilday Mortuary was our saving grace when we lost our 20-year-old son, as a passenger, in an auto accident last year (5/2025). This is a little different than many of my reviews, however this place and staff were absolutely wonderful. Jordan Padilla our Funeral Arranger made the entire process easy. Jordan and the staff were friendly, professional and understanding and considerate of the family and supportive of our feelings at this very tough moment. The location is convenient, lots of parking and very well maintained. We had several other places that were suggested, but ultimately made the decision on reviews and overall value and commitment to excellence shown at the Luyben Mortuary. When faced with making decisions after losing a loved one, patience and understanding goes a long way. We never felt pressured at any time during the process. My mother died somewhat unexpectedly, and I knew she had a cremation plan. But that's about all I knew. We had never really discussed it. Let me reiterate here you need to discuss these things with your loved ones. I came to find out that my ma's plan was with Luyben, and I was elated, many of my extended family had used Luyben before and hadn't reported any negative issues. I contacted Luyben and worked with Wendy Carr, who was wonderful. . I knew nothing and was emotional and upset at my mother's death. Plus I have a hard time getting around and getting to Luyben would prove difficult for me. Wendy, let me handle everything via phone or email. And she covered everything. She kept in touch with me almost daily. And sometimes several times daily and it was wonderful. Any questions or concern she was there. And covered things.I hadn't even thought of. When we met at the funeral mass for my mother, the first time we met, it was like the most comforting friend or family member was there. UPDATED 6/11/2023 We began with my mother's funeral last month in early May (see original review below). Tragically, my father followed my mother in late May. Luyben Dilday (Daniel Camacho, Art Luyben, Wendy, and Matt Luyben) stepped right back in. As hard as it was to lose both parents in the same month, everyone at Luyben Dilday stepped in to help us place my father to rest with my mother. It is impossibly hard to lose both my parents within three weeks. But we ABSOLUTELY could not have made it without everyone's help. We are especially grateful to Daniel who carried us through all of this. It is just not possible to express how grateful we are. A death in my family was way closer than I realized. I contacted Luyben Mortuary early in the morning and connected with a representative as soon as they opened. Before noon everything was taken care of through docusign and my loved one went to heaven that very evening. Every aspect was made easier due to the competency of Art. AVOID. My family is Catholic and insists on using this mortuary. Our recent experience changed their mind for good. In past (before 2010) this place seemed to have standards and be up to par. Walking in now you feel as if you are making a trip back in time. Horribly out dated and run down decor greet you at every turn. The staff is lack luster and seems completely over their job. They do not present themselves well or even have a neat, clean appearance for that matter. There was actually a man who appeared homeless roaming the halls one morning when we came to view our loved one before he was cremated. The homeless dude seemed well known by staff and was wearing pajamas walking to the restroom in full view of customers. Not what I wanted to see when grieving. Our brother was placed in a viewing room that was also apparently the break room. The staff had draped a wrinkled sheet around the box he arrived in (the box that was for his future cremation). Even though we paid for a viewing they didn't even take a few moments and place him in a prop casket!!! Just a box suited to be burned. It was repulsive. The room had bright florescent lighting which isn't the best for a CORPSE. The seating areas were in the back of the room near the employee area. Not even close to view. They did plug in a Glade air freshener which was an appreciated touch. After all he was defrosting in the room with no AC turned on! They asked for no pictures of our brother which is an industry norm when presenting a body. Because of this they oddly combed his hair which made the experience more strange. Oh, did I forget to tell you that aside from the box and wrinkled sheet they didn't even have the kindness to shield us from the hospital gown he was wearing!!! I'd guess most mortuaries that actually care would drape a blanket or some type of covering on top of the deceased. Not Luyben!!! They left him in the hospital gown he had his autopsy in! What a gross touch. I thank the good Lord I didn't let my young children see their beloved at this heinous rendition of a viewing! It has been some time but I am still haunted by the images of my brother in my head thanks to Luyben. From the lack luster staff to the outdated building (inside and out) the folks at this 'mortuary' have lost our lifelong business. read more

She was open and willing to support my every need in choosing family photos and talking through my ideas and changes I wanted for the DVD photo montage. I remember when my siblings and I used them for our parents services and how they made it so easy for us. Bridget was our coordinator and we connected so quickly. The worst service ever. The owner is extremely unprofessional. Cancelled our service last minute. Not only did he do that but also all the flowers friends and family sent to the location for the service they had cancelled instead of rerouted to the new funeral home that had to step in and help with our service last minute at a different location. Even the new location said they never experienced before the level of unprofessionalism that Luyben showed. Made it ten times harder while going through the grieving process of losing our loved one. On January 20, 2012 my family suffered the unplanned, tragic loss of my brother. Having been through my mother's planned passing and the terrible experience we had through All Souls Mortuary, I just didn't know what to do and couldn't face it again. Thankfully, two friends stepped up to the plate to help plan my brother's memorial through the Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary. Our financial resources were very limited but Mr. Dilday treated us like we were preparing the memorial for the most important person on earth - and we were; my brother, a father, a husband and a friend to countless people. The mortuary is in the middle of a residential area and their building resembles that of some of the condos nearby which not only gives it a homey feeling but it blends in appropriately with the community. Inside the the mortuary there was such a peace and serenity and nothing was too hard, contrary to what I experienced while executing my mother's memorial in September. Everything we wanted was accommodated and if it wasn't in our small budget Mr. Dilday offered other alternatives we could afford. He also provided many resources that I will be eternally grateful for. I fully intend to make my future arrangements through this mult-generational group of renowned funeral homes (Luyben, Dilday & Mottells). I attended a funeral here for a beloved friend on 12/18/12. The place is dainty and is in a neighborhood area. There's plenty of parking from what I remember and I had no issues with finding the place. The person who was helping the family was really kind and gave good directions for an attendee to follow. In a somber setting, it's polite to hold off on too many questions for details and such. So, the directions that the guy (I'm guessing the owner, supervisor) gave was really helpful in moving the program along without bothering the family. read more

Where do I begin! This has been the easiest most non stressful service set up I've had to be involved with. I've done 4, two at Forrest lawn cypress and one at all souls In Long Beach. And now sadly one for my Father. I had the pleasure working with Art. He made us feel so assured that everything was going to go how we wanted it, he didn't try to up sale packages, he was very knowledgeable on how everything would play out. It was a very personable experience. Basically all we had to do was set a date and pay and he assured he would take care of the rest. Us being Mexican we had to include tacos so I asked if we can have a taco cart there. Of course it wasn't a problem with Art. The place just had such a home feel vibe. On the day of the services they decorated very nicely for us, weren't sticklers on amount of cards were being handed out, or prayer cards being printed. They took care of everything. What really got my attention was that Art was noticing that I hadn't eaten during this ceremony and he shared his concern, and I said your right Art I probably should get something in my stomach. It was just an over all great experience with Luybin Dilday. I highly recommend this place and Art. read more

This review is long overdue. A couple of years ago a loved one passed away unexpectedly. I cannot recommend Luyben Dilday Mortuary Lakewood enough because of how they covered everything that we needed. They were always compassionate and professional. When my loved one passed, I made one call to them and they took care of everything. They even arranged everything at the National Cemetery for us. They were a godsend, relieving us of difficult details so that we could mourn and make the most of our time with our family. Due to unforseen circumstances, we could not have the Celebration of Life services for several months later. To my surprise, a representative from Luyben Dilday Mortuary came to the service. Even though we didn't need their help by then, and they had fulfilled everything provided for in our contract, they still showed up (3 months later)! The gentleman was respectfully dressed in a suit and was ready to help in any way he could. I cannot express how much that means to me - that they would even care after they weren't obligated to do anything more for us. Who does that any more? With all that they did for us, I am surprised at the level of service for the pre-planning price we had paid. I feel that they are honest and aren't out to squeeze every dime out of the situation. They were transparent with us from the beginning. The only thing I've been surprised by is the way that they went above and beyond in multiple circumstances. Thank you LDM for lifting the heavy burden of the many difficult tasks we would have had to tackle. I have used this mortuary twice. Last year for my mother and had a wonderful experience so when we lost my father-in-law recently I used them again. We met with Daniel and he was so attentive to our requests and needs. Every time we had a question he was there to reassure us it would be ok and that he would take care of it. He also arranged for the honor guards the present the flag from the Navy. It was so perfect and honored my father-in-laws service.This past weekend was his funeral. They forgot to put obituary in the news paper and blamed it on the paper, our father was a high ranking officer in the Navy, they forgot to contact the right people to have the military attend his funeral.
