Pub, diner, brewery and bistro, McMenamins has provided pub food, coffees, sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips, Mac and Cheese, and wonderful salads for many years, here and in Oregon where it started. JR's Jumbo Deluxe burger, suggested by our nimble server Mike (he virtually runs as he serves), was perfect for my lunch as I hadn't eaten breakfast. Beef burger, Bacon, fried egg, tomato, lettuce (was there a pickle?) on a large bun was done perfectly and served with wonderful Cajun tater tots, spicy and crispier than french fries. The Blue Bayou was a large salad with chopped egg, bacon pieces and a blue cheese dressing which was scrumptious. Filling and satisfying enough for two hungry people. Cocktails (Lemon Drop, Kissed by a Rose) were refreshing and very good. Relaxing and friendly service and frequented by locals lined up outside before opening time at noon, we took our time enjoying our meal and walked out with a nifty T-shirt with a replica of one of the signature murals on the walls---a gift from my lovely partner! Our first meal in Seattle was a home run. This wasn't on my Yelp radar, then I'm staring out the hotel window and it's right across the street. The only place we could walk to. I had a half a dilly tuna sandwich, meaning it's loaded with dill. I got a side salad with green goddess dressing. I had a bite of a delicious cheeseburger. Also a sausage and green pepper soup. Spicy, but so good. I love pub food. The tater tots some guys got looked delicious. I can't believe they ordered lunch after eating them. I have been to McMenamins a few times. They have a few locations, but this feels like a friendly, local restaurant. They always have a good selection of beers. This time I had an American Wheat beer, which was very nice with some citrus flavor. I ordered the Queen Anne sandwich. This is a grilled cheese with grilled onions and pesto. The cheese was a smoked mozzarella. It as really tasty-- a really nice version. It came with a healthy side of fresh, house cut fries. I really liked those. Service was fast and friendly. At other times I have had the fish and chips and the dungeon burger. Both of those dishes were really good also. McMenamins is a good place to drink beer or have food tavern food. read more

Long wait, wrong food and cold burger Updated-manager contacted me and addressed the concerns. That counts for something in my book and updated with an extra star. We experienced slow service. We saw only one server who was also bussing tables and it was a full house. Our server was great handling it but for sure the place was understaffed. After at least a 30 minute wait, the food came and my burger was cold. The little one's order was taken wrong. We finally got the straws we asked for just as we were finishing up. Based on the above and the price of the food, I would have to say I have definitely had better. I saw some management comments on other reviews. My experience appears to be similar to others on Yelp. Review in the Time of Covid: There's just something about McMenamin's. Is it my first choice for burgers? Probably not, but it scratches a specific itch with memories of road trips in Washington and Oregon, and knowing it's not the best food, but it's consistent, fun, and the beers are always great with food. We ordered delivery by DoorDash, so of course there's a premium for this pub grub - but I don't regret it. I loved getting a can of Terminator to go with my veggie burger - which was one of the best veggie burgers I've had. The tots definitely travel better than the fries - so if you want fried potatoes, go with the tots. The salad was good, decent dressing. The kids loved the buffalo wings and sliders. My husband found his burger to be perfectly delicious. I loved that it was a consistent, McMenamin's experience. I look forward to visiting their other locations post-covid. As you can see I go to quite a few mcmenamins and I loved this one. It was a new visit for me, we had a great time. The staff was nice, attentive and engaging. We had a wine flight, three white wines and two out of three were good (I'm sorry I can't remember the names! You'll just have to try it yourself :P) We had some burgers and they were so good! Mine was topped with bacon and egg, the cook did perfect job. There were no limitations on toppings, and the other burger had a generous amount of mushrooms and peppers on it. Tots and fries always perfect combo can't go wrong! There was no pool tables at this location (that we seen), but that's okay! The ambiance was nice, very busy and we had a great time :) enjoy! read more

My wife and I have been to McMenamins many times. We have often indulged in their excellent brews, but we mostly go there for dinner. On our most recent visit, we had guests: a friend's daughter and the daughter's friend. (Our friend stayed home, either to relax or catch up on mom duties.) The girls are 12 or 13; I lose track. My wife and I had good vegetarian meals, and the girls had their respective whims: a burger for one and a salad for the other, if I remember correctly. We all appreciated our food. We even had desserts, which were delicious. Service was excellent; although the place is mainly a pub, the kids were treated as well as in a family style place. The server was a young woman with very short hair, Doc Martens, and a glowing smile that suggested that she enjoyed having well-behaved kids as guests instead of unruly drunks. When I read the menu, I was a bit disappointed to see that they didn't have their own recipe black bean burger any more. Instead they had Garden Burgers. They're good too, but we can find a Garden Burger anywhere. Other new experiences were their non-spicy tater tots and their french fries. The first time I was there, years ago, a friend suggested the spicy tater tots, and I never tried the plain ones or the fries. But this time I forget to ask for the spicy tater tots and got the plain ones instead. Go for the spicy ones; the plain ones just aren't the same, even with the sprinkle-on spice mix I got when I realized my mistake. I also tried the fries; the girl who ordered salad didn't want all of hers, so she shared. The fries were pretty good, but didn't come close to the spicy tots. Our experience Friday night with the girls was worth a five-star Yelp, but I'm not just reviewing one night. On other occasions (such as when the place has been full of unruly drunks), service has been slower and less attentive, though it's always been at least OK. The food has always been good. We stopped in on a chilly Thanksgiving weekend night and were warmly greeted around 11pm and offered a recommendation of the best beers on tap (which we loved), along with some snacking food. Our waiter cued us in on the Kraken game on TV (we're from Portland), shared their love of their job and the neighborhood, and also recommended some other post-McMen's late night hot spots that we visited later on. A friend & fellow Elite were scouting a place to grab food & chat after seeing Swan Lake at McCaw Hall. It was such an easy walk up the block past the parking garage. There's not many food options in the area & I didnt even realize it was there. We were able to grab a booth as soon as we walked in & served really quickly. Its burger month & every week there's a burger on special listed. We decided not to try the item listed & I grabbed a Dark Star burger. It was a huge burger! I loved how it was full of flavor with the pickled jalapeno. Yum! And, the onion ring on top was a bonus. It came with a side of tater tots & a pickled banana pepper (not of fan of the pepper). The Cajun tater tots here are one of a kind! They're pretty addicting. I ordered the burger with the tots and my plate was empty by the end of the night. It was pretty busy though, so service was not great. We never had our waters refilled, which would've been nice when eating salty food. I also wanted to eat the dessert but decided to skip it as I didn't want to wait for the food to come and then to wait longer for the check as we were already waiting pretty long before the server came to check on us. Moral of the story, be patient when coming here and you will be rewarded with good food. read more

McMenamins is typically a great place for Burgers and the like. My kids and I had to come up to Seattle to renew our military IDs and decided to make a weekend of it. Seattle is a great town for foodies like me but I have never been so disappointed. My daughter has a cold and it's super rainy so we decided to stay in for the night and order in. Let me just say nothing we ordered actually showed up. Strawberry Lemonade? Nope. Tater tots? Nope. Captain Neon burger?! If that's what showed up, then no thank you. This is a cute little McMenamins location. The building stays true to the quirky decor and light fixtures that other McMenamins have, but it's just the self contained restaurant unlike larger locations with several bars and restaurants. I really liked the happy hour choices at this McMenamins. They had great salads and bowls for under and around $10. We had the warm soft pretzel sticks with cheese dip and I was literally licking the cheese out of the bowl- it was amazing. read more

Very good burgers and beer (I'm into cider personally) however the food and the overall atmosphere is great! It appears to be more of a local/neighborhood hangout spot. Mai Thai Rice Bowl with chicken was quite honestly one of the best bowls I've ever eaten. A little unexpected for a little brew pub, but I'm telling you to try this dank bowl!! Server was awesome - very funny and witty but great as a job also. Beers are fantastic also. Tried the red ale on nitro for something different and I was pleasantly surprised. Followed that with the pale ale which was equally refreshing. If I'm back in Seattle, I'll be making a trip back here for another bowl and some brews. read more

Wow! I'm shocked! I am a huge fan of the Mcmenamins chain and have visited most of their locations. However, this one has absolutely tanked in recent months. Every aspect of my dining experience last night - Tuesday Nov 29 2022 - was absolutely horrible. I dont even know where to start. Every single item we ordered was wrong, the staff was dismissive and completely incompetent. First round - we ordered a hot toddy and a schooner (small glass) of cider. Waitress came back with a large pint of cider which she sloshed and spilled on the table and said they had no apple whiskey for the hot toddy. I asked if i could substitute for a diff whiskey She said no. No whiskey? How strange.. on to the food. My guest and I each ordered a small half salad and one cup of soup and one bowl of soup. One of the salads was to have the dressing on the side. We were asked if we would like to start with the soup first which sounded great. Instead, all the food came at once and the server quickly left. What we had were 2 large salads and 2 containers of soup each the same size. What we didn't have was silverware or water...and no one came by to check on us. I had to stand at the counter and ask for silverware, napkins, water and salad dressing. I didn't even bother with cider, salads and soups all being the wrong size. Figured they might have been out of the correct dishes and would correct it on the bill. Finally started eating - I had grilled chicken that was neither hot nor cold but a weird room temp on salad (chicken was on the wrong salad too, mind you). Now here comes the worst part. I find not one, not 2, but THREE hairs in my salad. I was absolutely repulsed and neither my guest or I could eat any more of our meals at that point. 15 mins pass with my salad pushed to the edge of the table and neither of us eating. Waitress comes back, I explain the situation and she asks if I'd like a diff salad. I said no thank you. I'm starving and we are grossed out, I asked to take some tots to go (I was staying at a hotel next door and had no other options). We were shocked to receive a bill for about $60. We were charged for all the wrong larger sizes for all items also (cider, soup, salad) Side of Tater tots alone - over $10. I thought they would be comped after the disaster. Lol! Horrendous. We almost walked out as we couldn't even find a way to pay. Caught up with the Waitress and she hollered to the front "this lady wants to pay". Got back to hotel room, no dipping sauce or seasoning on my tots. And they were cold. Have visited this location often in the past. This was a last minute find when taking a break from an event down the street. We were starving and the first venue we checked out for food had an event and wasn't open to the public. I was glad, it brought us next door to McMenamins and we were able to seat ourselves, order, and get food in front of our faces pretty quickly. My bff got the Scooby snacks (little mini corn dogs). They were pork free (she doesn't eat pork) and the portions were generous, and it wasn't overly battered. I got the reuben sandwich on a gluten free bun and upgraded the fries to truffle fries. The sandwich was messy and tasty and amazing, the gluten free bun was good. Not a dense mess, not weird tasting. The fries tasted like normal fries and truffle was undetectable, we asked the server about it and he said they used a truffle salt instead of oil so it was pretty subtle, but was kind enough to take the upcharge off our bill. This was our go to spot before the opera but the quality has gone down. We ordered two burgers but the buns were not toasted and the meat was not seasoned. I got the mushroom burger and the mushrooms weren't even seasoned. The burger was dry and well done versus medium well. We still like the beer and maybe if we are just thirsty, we'll stop in for a pint, but the food has seriously gone to the wayside here. I can't comment on the food here. We didn't come here to eat. So what did we come here for then? McMenamin's famous Black Widow Porter! Steve was telling me about this before I even made the move out here. He even got me a black on black t-shirt of a spider from the McMenamin website as a gift for me last Christmas. So why did it take almost a year before I got an opportunity to try it? It is because the Black Widow Porter is only released during the Fall and goes extremely fast. It is that popular! All of the McMenamin locations get it each year but it goes that fast! Then once it is gone then it is gone until next year! The porter itself is a great dark hue and tastes so smooth going down and then you get a bite in the aftertaste. So good! This location has a cute atmosphere so it is worth coming back. I can never thank my old college buddy enough for introducing me to this place when visiting Portland in the mid-90's. I was so happy when they expanded to Washington and opened this QA location! The place is very down home and cozy and the people who work there are nice and laid back. Their large booths can accommodate a party of six pretty easily. The house beers are all pretty tasty and they do have rotating seasonal taps. Their house beers are: Ruby, Wheat Ale, IPA, Hammerhead, Porter and Terminator Stout. I tend to gravitate towards the Terminator Stout or the IPA. If you can't decide what you want, you can order the brewery taster ($6.90) and go from there. A pint of beer will run at $4.10 and a pitcher at $11.00. If you have at least two beers then it would be best to order a pitcher since that is equivalent to three beers. Better beer buy for your dollar! They do have a good liquor selection if beer isn't in the cards. The food here is pretty tasty. You really can't go wrong with whatever you order. I like to start with the spicy chicken wings, then have favorites like: grilled smoked mozzarella sandwich, halibut fish and chips or one of their many burgers. The Wilber's Jumbo Deluxe burger is pretty killer bee with bacon, Tillamook cheddar and a fried egg. Sometimes I like to substitute their regular fries for sweet potato fries to mixed things up once in a while! For those that do not eat beef, you can substitute a Boca or Gardenburger patty on any burger for $1.00. This place is also kid friendly and have a limited kid's menu. UPDATE: 04/20/07 Tried one of their new specials: Marrakech chicken sandwich. This is a very good sandwich which they describe as: Moroccan-spiced chicken breast with apricot chutney and lemon aioli on a tradition bun with lettuce, tomato and red onion. I'm a little bit sad that my office has moved far away from McMenamins Queen Anne. It was a great little spot to relax at lunch with a veggie burger, a salad or taters as a side, and a beer. PERFECT for those days where I really need to chill out a little! I prefer their house veggie burger to the Boca? option and liked ordering balsamic vinegar with the salad. One thing I did learn was that they took "balsamic vinegar" to mean "balsamic vinegar dressing." Guess I'll be more clear next time! One of the best parts? That veggie burger and side combination was only about $7.50 before tax. I'm quite sure that's one of the lowest prices you see for such an order in Queen Anne! Beer wise I would usually ordered the wheat. It wasn't mind-blowingly awesome, but it definitely hit the spot. I've yet to find a 5-star fantastic McMenamins, but the friendly service + tasty food + good prices at the QA location kept me coming back for more. The service was amazing and I had a good time here. Very friendly & they take care of you. Before ordering a beer, they let me try it first-- I really enjoyed their homeade brew. I just came to drink and snack on stuff for happy hour. I had the Cajun Tater tots and the Truffle Fries. The Tater Tots was BOMBB, so crispy and perfectly cooked. The truffle fries (~$5) were okay, they were thicker cuts and I barely tasted any truffle in it at all. It just tasted like normal fries but the sauce was good! but what really stood out were the BEER BATTERED ONION RINGS HWAUUUU. I could taste the beer haha Love it. Somehow Portland's food and hotel family doesn't translate to Seattle. I've eaten at over half of the chain's outlets in the greater Portland area and have been disappointed in the food exactly once, and that time the manager admitted they'd totally screwed up and made every gracious effort to make it up to us. On Roy St though, things were just "as expected". Nothing sang. None of the food was blazing hot, the tater tots seemed bland somehow, and worst of all, the configuration made it impossible to avoid smokers. (I've been back since the law changed and at least that problem is fixed -- HUZZAH!) On the whole, I say if you need to indulge the pub food urge in Seattle you need to hit either the George and Dragon or you need to drive to Redmond for Celtic Bayou. Save the McMenamin's for Portland, where things are nearly perfect. read more
