I am a HUGE fan of McMenamins! I have a goal this year to visit all Washington Sites (1 left to go and then Tacoma) as well as tour the Oregon locations. I have been to several but I want to see them all! The location in Queen Anne is quaint. The Staff is friendly. The service is good. The food....OMG! I cannot get enough of the Blue Cheese fondue smothered fries and the Pretzel and beer cheese fondue. I see a theme! This place knows cheese fondue! We even grabbed a 6 pack of ruby cans to go! We will be back! On To the Anderson School for our next stay and Olympic for our next adult night out! read more

Meet a good fiend here for a bite and beer after he got off work across the street. McMenamins has not changed from when I used to go to it 25 years ago in Portland. It's consistent good food and beer with friendly service. It's not creative or fresh or great but good. It's a place I always know what I'm getting and o go back to as it's a known. read more

Woodsy sticky style - the classic McMenamin's swag, you may get touched by houseplants here. This is smaller than other locations. The seasonal winter ales & Ruby are delcious, the stout good after a poopy day at the office. I depend on this location for a snappy beer and an attentive barkeep in early evening only. Last 2 visits, the weekday HH was satisfactory for ambience and seating, lots of skullcapped and bespectacled patrons hunched over glowing screens ignoring their boothmates. I must say HH 3.00 pints are helpful in 18 degree weather. They refilled fast...actually speedier than my credit card would prefer. Last visit, 3 of us commenced sharing a communication breakdown burger, poor thing was nothing spectacular, and though requested, not as rare as Oregon cattle should present itself. Tasty enough with beerage. Try the Red Wine Beef Stew when it is nippy, very satiating. Banana Criollo is great date food, turns something as simple as banana into an aphrodisiac, by creme-ing and brulee-ing it. yums. You may play neighborhood 500 finding the mystical free QA parking, and the big booths are pretty packed on weekends. Service has lagged at times, social times between staff taking time away from filling thy mug. Also, if you are kidless or avoid them, sit to the left. I like the dragon motif. I come for the late night happy hour. It's consistently fast and friendly. Bar food and beers are safe bets here. I recommend their house whiskey too. It's great on the rocks. Great food, great service, a perfect place for a group dinner! My friends and I had dinner and drinks here for St. Patty's day before heading out to check out some bars. What we found was that they serve such good food and drinks in-house, that we didn't even want to leave! This chain is known for its beer, but what some may not know is that their meals are super creative and tasty as well! I had the Bean and Seed slider from the sandwiches and burgers section of the menu and was impressed by how McM's was able to make such a flavorful set of vegetarian patties from beans and seeds - props to them! I tasted the two different kinds of bowls my friends ordered as well and know what I will be trying next time I visit! Both the Jamaican and Green Machine rice bowls were incredible! The bowls can have chicken or tofu added for a small fee as well. Yum! For beer, my favorite of course is the Ruby Ale! read more

Eclectic brewery restaurant that serves noteworthy pub fare and their own brand of conservative brews. I had the perfectly breaded fish and chips here one night. For as many places you can get fish and chips in Seattle, this batter was calling my name. I don't remember exactly what my small group ordered, and while none of them were texting home about, were all pleased with what they ordered. They beers are akin to Hale's and The Ram, in my opinion. Light, straight-forward and pleasing, but lacking the complexity that gives other local microbrews a memorable punch while making them exciting to drink. The service was wonderful the night I was here. We stumbled in after my car broke down and we had to wait three hours for roadside assistance. It was slow that night, but service was friendly and attentive. They accommodated all of our running back into the place to use the restroom while we were stranded. With all the wonderful places to eat in town, this place is easy to overlook. However, I would gladly return if the occasion called for it. read more

The service was sporadic, at best, and I paid $9.75 for a small basket of mediocre fries that was supposed to come with something called Mystic 18 sauce, which is apparently a code name for a bottle of ketchup. They also offer a Litelife burger ($2.50 at the store) for $18.75. The beer was unremarkable, surprising for a place that brews their own. There's only so far you ride on fanciful design. read more

Wait...they have McMenamins up in Washington?!? So we're up here with friends hitting a local convention and hanging out for the weekend and we were just walking the streets near Seattle Center when we all got those telltale rumblies in the tumblies. We looked across the street and I saw a familiar name. Who knew? Well, THEY all knew, but I didn't know. Evidently McMenamins has had a few Washington locations--this one apparently--for many years. I thought they were just an Oregon thing. You know, like Starbucks. Anyway, the eight of us stopped in. They had some lovely seasonal beers and the food was your typical McMenamins which is to say not that bad, and getting better over the years. I relied on my old standby, the Dungeon Burger, which has mushrooms and Swiss. Son got a "normal" burger (which to him means patty, dry, on a bun). Nothing red, green, saucy or oniony ever interferes with his "purist" burger enjoyment. Daughter got a bowl of their Mac and Cheese, which---let's just say she lives on Mac and Cheese. And McMenamins', in her opinion, hits the spot. Wife got the fish and chips, which were as good as they always were, and I treated myself to a helping of their Cajun tots which are world renowned in local circles. The long and short of it is you can go to just about any McMenamins and get roughly the same experience. And this one was no different. With it's somewhat eclectic steampunk-ish weird-ish vibe (you know, exposed purple pipes with cute little faces painted on the elbows) this one felt very much like the Oregon McMenamins I'm used to. The beer selection was comfortably familiar as well: Terminator, Hammerhead, Ruby et al were present, along with the typical seasonal and special rotations. Service was fine (actually--better than fine, it was actually really good here). Now that I know there's a McM's up here, I can always get my fix the 4-6 times a year I'm up. read more

Came here after a trip to Seattle Center. It took me a moment to realize this was the Portland beer joint that my husband goes to when he travels to Oregon. He wants the passport stamp and since I don't drink beer, they gave me a sticker for him which worked just the same. Based on Yelp reviews, I ordered the cajun tots and lentil soup. The lentil soup was not very good but the Cajun tots really rocked! And the appetizer 1/2 order was plenty enough to get full on! My friend tried to get the Reuben but it was sold out...weird. She had to settle for fish and chips and she seemed to enjoy it. I tried the fish and it was tasty. Tried the special cider...a pear cider. It was okay...wish they had more hard cider offerings. Northwest-style pub fare that serves lower Queen Anne. While the food is a bit underwhelming, the historical interior decor and convenient location within walking of McCaw Hall and Seattle Center make it a decent rendezvous point for friends and family. Skip the crispy chicken tacos, and if the servers seem like they're taking long to get your drinks then they've probably just forgot. I normally love my local mcmenamins in Portland. I don't know if there's a different place they order their food from but all I can say is I'm highly disappointed in the food at this location. My friend and I both ordered chicken and all I can say is that may be the lowest representation of chicken I've ever seen for the price they were selling it at. Rubbery and filled with gross tendons. Not a fan. Also, when I politely asked to send my food back I was offered a refund only on my fries - the lovely waitress I had said her manager could only refund me on my truffle fries at a price point of 6.50 when the food we ordered and sent back was nearly $20.. Wtf management. As I'm here mainly for my passport stamp I can say I left feeling kind of okay - but I'm leaving hungry and irritated. A feeling I've never had leaving a Mcmenamins. If I were you I would come in just for a stamp and a beer, but I'll have to pass on food from this location from now on. read more

We come here for the tots but stay for the cider and drinks! I love that they have rotating seasonal cider flavors as well as regular.. their blackberry and cranberry flavors are my fave. The Cajun tots are delicious and we always order them along with a salad or burger. Was staying a few blocks down the street for business and happened upon McMenamins during an exploratory walk. The decor intrigued me so I decided to stop in for a late lunch. The staff was exceptionally professional. I didn't have my ID on me (even though I'm 29) so they refused to serve me alcohol, but the demeanor in which they handled it was so cordial I couldn't even be upset. Love the aesthetic inside and although the menu could be broader, my baja chicken sandwich was fantastic. That special sauce they have is super addicting. Everything from the unsweetened iced tea down to the chai latte were made from scratch. I'd definitely return if I stay in this area of Seattle for work again. read more

Best beer and comfortable atmosphere. For beer, the Ruby or Hammerhead are fantastic. Its the best tasting craft beer I've ever had. Also if you are ordering a meal with fries, please ask for their organic ketchup... So good! The waitress was kind enough to let me purchase a bottle of their ketchup because I liked it so much. :) The pub is located within walking distance from the Seattle Center as well as Kerry Park. If you are new to Seattle and would like some good food and drinks, this place won't let you down. Sometimes it might be crowded, but it's an all time favorite. read more

3/4ish. Came in after going to the Seattle Center with family. There were six adults and two babies. We were seated right away right as happy hour started (3p) on a Saturday. Our server took our order pretty quickly. It took a little while to get our drinks, but other than that things came out in a good flow. Each couple got one dish. I got the truffle fries w/an aioli dipping sauce. It was okay. Not super truffley. Actually they tasted like regular french fries. They were on the mushy side, which I don't necessarily love, but it was good for my 16 month old to munch on. Minus the lack of truffle, they were good fries. Their apple cider was really good. Not too sweet, but not really dry either. I accidentally got my SIL's cider, which was like maybe a cherry cider or something like that and it was really good. I would try that next time. Service was pretty good in the beginning. Once it got a little busier during happy hour it was difficult to get things, but our server was friendly and hurrying as much as she could. There was a booth behind us that was a little hidden and I could see by their faces that they were a little frustrated trying to get someone's attention, so I would avoid sitting behind big tables if you have the choice. Anyway, would I return? Sure. It was okay. I'm rarely in the area, but there is one in Bothell now closer to my place, so I would give that place a try. read more

We found this restaurant listed as a happy hour spot. We went there during happy hour and it was packed! The waitress took a pretty long time to greet us. We then ordered drinks which also took awhile...probably a total of 20 mins before we had drinks. The waitress did the best she could, but she appeared to have too many tables. McMenamins has truly mastered the PNW casual. Whether you're looking for a quick bite before the opera or a few pints to pass the time, you're never out of place or unwelcome here. A recent transplant from Portland, I've had mixed experiences over the plethora of McMenamins properties. But, this is a great example of things done right. McMenamins are at they're best when they scale back and focus their charming powers on the humble neighborhood pub. And, this one at the foot of Queen Anne is a prime example. The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgable. The kitchen has really mastered their small but flavorful menu. And, their bar is well stocked with any cure for what ails you, whether it be a craft beer, micro vintage wine, or a shot of PNW whiskey. It's become a favorite of ours. Solid place for brews and snacks. Their chicken wings are pretty good and their blue cheese sauce that comes with was so tasty, I found myself dipping my truffle fries in it. For the amount of wings you get, $15 seems a bit steep, though. We got truffle fries, which were a really generous portion and pretty good, but not much truffle flavor there. The ketchup they give you is pretty tasty, though. We got a hard cider and an IPA, both of which were pretty solid. Cool atmosphere, nothing to complain about with the service. read more

This McMenamins is tucked in an area behind the Space Needle at the bottom of Queen Anne's hill. It isn't a huge place but has good standard McMenamins food. Service is friendly here as well, For being so close to Seattle Center I am surprised I always find parking close by. There are lots of windows for people watching or booths is that is more you're thing. We opted for a window and had burgers and drinks. It was a good meal, I like that when I asked they brought me Barbecue sauce. Then we were off to Bothell for the night. read more

Honestly, I cannot believe this place even has a 3 star average. People must be grading on the good company they choose to dine out with, because this restaurant just does NOT have it together. Things I like: -Nice servers -Wood finish on the booths aaand, that's about it. Things I don't like: -The servers tend to forget about you completely and leave you sitting there for a half hour with no check while they're doing some prep work behind the bar or something. Dead restaurant, waiting customers. This must be some sort of alternative universe called hell, like in Beetlejuice or something. -The menu says their burgers are 1/3 pound--1/3 pound, my ASS. Sorry. But maybe it was so well done the meat shrunk, because the bun was way thicker than the actual meat, which was thin, not juicy whatsoever, etc. -The mac and cheese could be a kid's plate. -The cook is in full range view of the place. It's cool if restaurants have it set up where the cook and the line are facing the restaurant directly, or with their backs to the tables, but I don't like to see what he's doing at a 90 degree angle. Awkward... there should be some sort of saloon door in front of his kitchen. And most importantly, their french fries are thin, taste-less and almost cold. Yuck. Other reviewers exclaim "they have tots!", as if they can't buy a 10-lb bag for 5 bucks at Safeway and microwave them in 2 seconds. Get over it. The mexi fries at Taco Time are 100 times better than these "tots". When I go out to eat, I want good food. I want to be happy when I'm eating. And I don't want to sit there and stare at our server, mentally calling her over to us like some psycho. I hate this place. read more

This was stop two on the Sunday of yelping in store for me ... After a quick cup of coffee, and finding out Peso's had been 86'd as a destination, Jon, Delilah and I walked our way here. The tots were smokin', literally, when served up hot. The sweet potato fries were nothing spectatular, but they were good. The service was spotty. The waitress checked in on a fairly regular basis, but did so so quickly that if you actually TRIED to say something, it was missed as she was already 4 booths away. X-men, rabbits named dickbob on ferret leashes, elbow-banging .... Seriously, does one need alcohol to laugh herself silly with yelpers? No, but I did succumb and have one beer near the end of this stage of the day. I don't even remember what it was...the IPA maybe? Nothing special about this location, but lots of choices to entertain you with the company you choose to visit with! I'd go back with the right peeps! read more

Have to agree with one of the other reviewers in that I sat down and waited for nearly 15 minutes before the server or host even acknowledged me. Not that I was in a rush, but it would help if I had a menu :) In any case, this place is probably best described as a nice neighborhood pub. And despite the fact there's NO TV, their prices really aren't that bad. Pints are ~$4 and for happy hour they are a whopping 50 cents cheaper (Happy hour runs from 4-6 and 10 till close for those looking to take advantage of the savings). That said, the food is decent and perhaps I would consider giving this place another try if I happened to be bumbling down that area of queen anne again.... though seeing as there are many drinking establishments much closer to me... very unlikely. read more

The thing with McMenamins is that it is hit or miss. Food is hit or miss and so is service. I was just recently here twice within 24 hours b/c it is a great after work hang out. Everyone can find something they want on the menu. Their aioli sauce that they put on their sandwiches is darn good. I had the salmon sandwich on day 1 and the club sandwich on day 2. Sandwiches range in price from $6.00-10.00 and some salads are $12.00. I also had the Nitro Pale Ale, which went down like water...smooth and refreshing. On both days, my servers were fun, personable, and attentive. In the past, I have had some weak service. Our day 2 server asked our table of 7 for a joke and whoever gave the best joke got their beer first. Same thing with food. A little friendly competition never hurts anyone and I love a server that makes my dining experience a fun and unique one. OH! Their pickles are possibly the best pickles I have ever had in my life! Celebrated Good Friday, by going to happy hour here before seeing Shen Yun at McCaw Hall down the street. Our server was courteous and fairly punctual in checking on us. We got there just before 5pm, and found a table fairly easy. It did get crowded after 6pm, so we did luck out. The white wine tasting option was excellent - pinot gris, chardonnay, & white rabbit all excellent taste. Granted we paired it with bite-sized corn dogs and French fries, which is typically not a good match - but, we were hungry! Wine, food, cleanliness, & service were great. Only problem? If you do not get there early, this place does get crowded. At 6pm, there were 4 people standing & waiting until a table was available. So get there early!!! read more

Hooray for drinking your Breakfast with the best of them! 3 Bloody Marys + 1 Terminator + 2 Pitchers of the IPA + 1 Pitcher of the Ruby + Betsey S. the mixologist stirring up some Rubinator madness = the tardiness of our arrival to a Midsummer Nights Dream. Ahem. There were other results as well with (to name a very few), the conjunction of wine spritzer and wang to create "wang spritzer" and epic tales of an infamous bunny named Richard Robert (aka: Dick Bob). The service was ok here. Upon ordering our first pitcher, we were told that both the Ruby and IPA were just freshly brewed so we went on that rec. Tots came out piping hot along with some Napoleon Dynamite references, of course. On the afternoon of the past Sunday, I found that the light business McMenamins was entertaining fit the mood of our posse quite nice.
