We have been going to McMenamy's for over 50 years. Never had a bad meal or crappy service, also never used take-out as we prefer to eat our food fresh and hot, not delivered 30 minutes later, so you can eat while watching TV at home. I don't get that. Going out to dinner is a special occasion, and here is a great place to go. My wife loves lobster, and I will only eat clams, but they serve them both at reasonable prices, in many different combos. I usually have a full belly clam roll, mmm, getting hungry just thinking about them, only drawback was the lack of coleslaw, but when asked, it was given freely to me. Clams are expensive, almost the same as Lobster so you want them fresh, sand-free, cooked to perfection, and that's what I got! My wife only got a Lobster roll this time, and she devoured it. She claims it was perfect, and I believe her, as we both grew up on the water, we know our seafood. I have been dying to try here, and let me tell you I placed a large order today and was highly disappointed. I asked for cocktails sauce and had none when I got home. I should've listened to the reviews--definitely won't be returning. From the moment I walked in, the place felt run-down and unkempt. The two women working the front were inattentive and unprofessional--one was eating at the counter while handling food without gloves, and the other was putting together takeout orders while biting her nails and handling money. There was a clear lack of organization; food sat out on the counter while the staff chatted, unaware it was ready. When they realized, they questioned the chef, who rightly responded that it wasn't his job to remind them. I ended up waiting 25 minutes longer than the estimated pickup time I was given over the phone. To make matters worse, the food was disappointing--rubbery scallops cut in half, dried-out shrimp, and an overcooked, frozen stuffed quahog that tasted as bad as it looked. My son and I both ordered a Cape Cod Platter to go. We were right there to pick it up before it was ready. Clams and Sea scallops were 6.00 extra a plate. The clams and scallops were horrible. And we had to pay extra for them. Clams had an aftertaste and scallops were tough. We substituted the fry's for onion rings and that was 1.98 extra a plate and Cole slaw was extra, omg We ordered a piece of haddock and that was 4 tiny pieces and that was good. Ew. Literally the worst place I've been in a long time. Both toilets were backed up. Cashier wouldn't wear mask properly even when asked. Sent the chowder and littlenecks back because they were so terrible. Their "chowder" is water and potatoes. Horrid. The server couldn't have cared less. Fried "haddock" is pollock. Aside from the yellow tinge that in indicative of pollock, haddock has much smaller flakes. Either their buyer is lieing to them or they are buying a cheaper option and lieing to their customers. "Scallops" were tough and chewy with a fishy taste to them. French fries are from frozen and are served stale. read more

The seafood is always fresh and fried in a batter and oil than is never greasy or over fried. I had the seafood special of shrimp, haddock, scallops. Shrimp fresh and tasty. 2 decent pieces of haddock, scallops good but wish there were a couple more. French fries 3 times what I eat. Cole slaw was as good as I had here before. The young girl running counter, delivering food to tables , cleaning tables... real hardworking young girl. Sad... Was really looking forward to trying this place. We ordered fish and chips platter, shrimp basket and a small clam chowder. The chowder was watery and salty. The fish had no flavor and the fries were plain fries although their menu shows crinkly fries which I was looking forward to. The service was great when they took my order. Then the staff were rude to another staff member. The little time I was there they told one staff member to "shut up and just bag" and attitude after attitude to the same staff member. I will admit the staff member who was getting all the abuse seemed to be a bit "mentally challenged". But that's even more reason to be patient with that staff member. Have eaten here in the past a few times with no complaints. Always thought the clams, scallops and fisherman's platter were good and worth the cost. Understood fresh seafood isn't cheap on the menu and McMenamy's is as fresh as you can get. Cant say I was a regular as we used to go to Franks for fish n chips mostly sometimes clam rolls too (I heard they were shut down because they were unable to find help. Sad.) Anyways I look at the supermarket circulars and saw lobster on special at Market Basket for 12.95 lb. Thought with the summer coming prices would start to drop...Hope so cause I love lobster... Just so happens my friend had to go to Brockton tonight called me and asked if we wanted lobster rolls. Hell ya I said as I have not had one in probably a year. Man was I shocked when I saw a stunted stubby half a lobster roll. He said it was 30 bucks !!! WTF The roll measures 4" That is half a hot dog roll. CRUEL JOKE (The roll was extra thick too. Try to fill you up with bread? haha. Didn't work. I am still hungry and that fuels my discontent.) You want a lobster roll? Buy lobster yourself at the supermarket. They will steam cook it included for the same price. Google for classic or innovative ways to garnish it and make it yourself for a fraction. Personally a toasted buttered role and the cold lobster meat with mayo Thats it. BTW the French fries ice cold and soggy and we are only 7 min away. And they certainly could have provided more of them. What a huge disappointment. I guess seafood is through the roof but I don't need it prepared by a restaraunt at this cost. First time at McMenamy Seafood in Brockton MA. i liked it. Many great selections at this family owned restaurant. When you walk in there are fresh lobsters in the troughs. I had the broiled or baked scrod with fries and cole slaw. Also added a bowl of clam chowder. The food was fresh and also very good. You order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table. Everyone was friendly and by the time we left we felt like family. If I lived in the area, this place would be one of my hang outs for a meal, great cup of.chowder or a hot cup of coffee. read more

Good service and super fresh foods. It has parking and good dining space however it has a drive thru which they afk u to go around so they can take in the next customer in line. The lot drives u back into the main road which is super busy and dangerous intersection having to go back around to get back in the drive thru line. Not safe! read more

Service: I ordered at the front and waited nearby for my meal. Expeditious and efficient, but not overly friendly. Food: Fried catfish was good quality with crisp, light batter fried a golden brown. Tartar sauce tasted homemade and was better than most I've had. Crinkle cut fries were oil-saturated, tasteless, and should have been tossed. Price: Catfish dinner was $10, a fair enough price considering the hearty portion of fish and fries. Average plate costs $15 or more. Nice little seafood shack, good for lunch or dinner, takeout or dine-in. Casual dining, seems family-appropriate. I call about 20 mins in advance of getting there but STILL had to wait over 35 mins for my platter. I had clam belles and haddock. The clams with bellies probably don't get sold as much because they did not taste as fresh as they should be. They were tough and EXTREAMLY greasy and soggy. Greasy was pouring out of the bag. The onion rings were so greasy and soggy that they simply fell apart. The plate they came in was coated in grease. The next day when I warmed up the left overs in the air fryer in an attempt to crisp them up all that happened was I soaked two entire layers of paper towels with...GREASE. No excuse for this mess. Maybe the oil was old or not high enough to crisp the food before grease soaked in. I don't know. They need to do better. read more

Because it was Monday, the place was close to empty, but I could definitely see it being packed on the weekends. The cashier/waitress was super friendly and helpful. This being our first time (and super hungry), she recommended the captain's seafood platter for 29.99. We agreed since it had all the seafood we love and more. After a short wait, this humongous platter of seafood was presented. Everything was so crispy, sweet and piping hot! I really didn't need condiments it was that good. This was a welcome spot on the way to Salem from Newport. Our family chose to get multiple items and share so we could try a lot of the delicious offerings. The clam chowder was incredible! Had always been happy with the haddock and shrimp basket up until our last takeout a couple of weeks ago. We ordered 2 haddock and shrimp baskets and requested one substitution of broccoli instead of coleslaw. The fish was 2 very small tail pieces that were mostly batter and very dry. My husband got 3 shrimp and I got 8! The broccoli was unappetizing. The order was definitely mixed up as I got NO fries. I called the store to voice my complaints and asked for the manager. They said that he would call me back tomorrow. Of course he didn't. So I called back and they said they could not issue a refund because I didn't bring the food back. This was the same girl I spoke to the night before and she never asked me to bring the food back. The owner/manager never responded. Things have gone seriously downhill here.
