Pretty good. Service slow but seafood platter pretty good. Shrimp, scallops and clams were yummy, the fish in the other hand was just ok. Breading was nice and light Atmosphere was fabulous outside which helped give this 4 stars full moon helped and we had a beautiful ocean view. We stopped by here for a small lunch. We got seated on their deck, which is a pretty nice view (the water). We ordered the chicken quesadilla, cup of clam chowder and mild buffalo tenders. The cup of clam chowder was so good, I decided to order one more! Must try! Very tasty! The chicken quesadilla was pretty delicious! Filled with cheese, chicken, tomatoes, corn and black beans. They served sour cream, salsa and rice on the side. The buffalo tenders are alright, they were a bit dry. We ordered from the appetizers but we would definitely come back to try their entrees! It's a hard-drinkin' crowd for lunch at this establishment on a Tuesday, both patrons and staff were knocking back the shots and beers. The retirees next to us at the bar were having martinis like the gold old days. Local charm comes complete with mildly surly bartender and corny nautical references to encouraging you to drink till you flounder for the halibut. What about the food, you ask? Mimsy's clam chowder was so thick you could literally stand your spoon up in it, had a film on it from sitting out, was lukewarm, had something green in it, and tasted more like lame fish chowder. I could not taste clams. The crab cakes were previously frozen, breaded, dropped in a frialator and the insides were a mushy mix of maybe-crab and filler... I didn't see any actual crab meat. They came topped with honey mustard sauce, as though they were admitting these weren't crab-cakes at all, but ground-up chicken. I got a fried haddock sandwich. Previously-frozen. I could see the harbor right out the window... I know there is fish in it, yet mine was frozen, not fresh... the fries, frozen. The only thing fresh was the dude from the kitchen who came out for his shot in the service bar area before running back into the kitchen to fry up more frozen stuff. I'll bet this business is a real money-maker for the owners, it's been there forever, but it just sucks. P.S. that chowder made Mimsy sick as a dog. read more

Went here for lunch. Food was great and gluten free options were outstanding. Loved the coleslaw which was made on premises. Brewed iced tea great. I had gluten free fried haddock sandwich on gluten free bun. Hard to make, but besides being a little crumbly was great. We'll be back. read more

Best clam chowder ever! Overall, a great place to sit on a deck by the water and have lunch with one's family. Wife had a 100% kickass bloody mary and a hot lobster roll that put a smile on her face. I wasn't super hungry so I just had a salad, bur I regretted that as I saw some of the other seafood dishes going to tables around us. The mussels looked great and they have glidden point oysters from Damariscotta- one of my favorites. The only troubling thing is just where the heck the loon resurfaced. Went here for lunch after a whale watching tour. Got seated right away which was nice. After that, service was very slow. Took awhile to order and then get our food. We ordered an appetizer which never came out, ended up canceling it since our food finally came out. I will say the food was pretty good. My sister and I ate here after a boat cruise in Boothbay Harbor yesterday. The service and atmosphere were great. I had a Maine lobster roll which cost $24 and was disappointed. It was a very small serving of lobster and tasted like it had been frozen with little to no flavor. It was served on a hot dog size roll. It came with homemade coleslaw but the serving was about 1/3 of a cup. The food being served around us looked very good though so I might go back sometime but don't come here if you want a tasty lobster roll. read more

I really like McSeagulls! It's usually easy to get a seat, and the outdoor view along the rail is terrific. Inside is open and seating is good with space to relax. The beer list is pretty sharp, always my favorite Allagash draught. Food is certainly good, but the tough part though is consistency between meals. Some visits the portions are fair and healthy enough to fill you up. The next visit the portions are very sparse. I've developed a few favorite dishes over years, I keep getting them hoping to get a nice portion but sadly it's not the case, specifically this applies to the broiled or baked seafood options. Still tastes awesome I just leave hungry which is a bummer especially for the premium prices. Sitting in a nice room with a nice view of the ocean draws us back craving fresh seafood while in Maine. The Americana dishes are usually terrific portions and never disappoint! In seasonal Boothbay the service varies, which is to be expected, sometimes fast hot and well taken care of! Next visit the water glasses are empty for ten minutes and food can be served cool and not hot! Hoping the service consistency and seafood portions get worked out! Love this place! read more

Just had the Lobster Alfredo. It was absolutely amazing! I full recommend full lobster and not half. Full gives you plenty of meat. My wife had the Lobester Chicken Bomb. Another fantastic meal! The service was excellent for us but we also had an early dinner. Would for sure come back! read more

This is a popular place and one of my friend's favorites so this was my second or third trip here. I always enjoy my food and the vibe of the place is great. This time I had the fish sandwich. Stopped by here to get an authentic taste of Maine- and got just that! The seafood was delicious and the portions were hearty. The service was very quick for Saturday dinner on a holiday. The only word I can come up with is, awful. Worst dining experience I have ever had. SLOW service, appetizers and soup were served with the meal. Kids were served last (after they drank all their drinks). Food was terrible and the price was high. Items were missing from salads and one of our meals was served burned. We came here this past weekend and had an overall good experience. We got steamed mussels as our appetizer... The only reason we couldn't give five stars was because we needed to send them back due to some being under cooked. Our entrées were delicious I got the shrimp scampi it was a little dry but tasty. My spouse got the scallops would request less tartar sauce involved next time. The gluten-free dessert was absolutely out of this world and hard to find in a restaurant these days. Service was great and very accommodating. There was a three man band playing that was very enjoyable. This place offers a great view of the harbor. Very lively. I used to frequent Mcseagulls years ago but have to say I was very disappointed this trip. We were in Boothbay Harbor celebrating a wedding this past weekend. Some friends, bride and the bridal party decided to have a late lunch here. Kudos to our waitress, who was great but we ssshhh'ed by another waitress. The whole vibe was not at all welcoming and we spent a good amount of money there. The food was okay but came out intermittent. Some of us left because we were uncomfortable those that ordered layer stayed but we're asked by the host when they were leaving. What? Very rude. So disappointing read more

We both had the clam chowder which was excellent, the best this week. It had a lot of clam and just enough potatoes to make it good. We then split the full order of clam and fries. Great place to have a beverage at the bar and mingle with locals and tourists. This is a casual place but busy, hence the pleasant wait for seating at the bar. Marie, who was the hostess and, as it turned out, a wearer of many hats, was most kind and helpful. She surprised us in many kind ways, particularly, as I had mentioned that it was my wife's b'day and after seating us on the deck at the best table to view the harbor, she and the crew "Happy Birthday'ed" Linda, my wife, along with a complimentory, ice-cream cake and candle. Why wouldn't we return? Prices are very reasonable. Linda loved her seafood chowder and I enjoyed my breaded brie sticks with fruit dip. read more

There are better lobster rolls in town. Pro: I still like the view and outdoor seating. They have Boothbay Brewing beer on tap (only one though). Outstanding at accommodating Gluten Free! The seafood extravaganza with GF pasta, boatloads of shrimp, lobster, and scallops, and the three cheese sauce were wonderful! The broiled seafood platter was absolutely huge. Our server was so conscientious and fun and even made me a blueberry ice tea becauseI really wanted that! We were so impressed with the care they took to be sure there was no gluten. They have batter that's gf but no separate fryer so that may be a better option for GF but not folks with celiac. Lots of Gluten free options on the menu- from Chicken Marsala to pastas and seafood. Excellent super fresh seafood and large portions. It was really reasonably priced and casual right on the harbor. They even have a GF chocolate torte for dessert but we were too full to have that. Next time! read more

Passed through town and stopped for dinner here. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences any of us have had. The staff didn't seem happy or enthused in the least, and the food was nearly inedible. The food wasn't fresh at all, and we all left feeling uneasy and hoping that we weren't going to get food poisoning. Looking at other reviews, perhaps it was a fluke that the food was so sketchy, or maybe it was because it was past the tourism season, or a slow Monday night. read more

Very crappy service. I would even say the worst I've ever had. Waitress kept trying to hurry us up so she could leave for the night and all our drinks where completely terrible. We sent them all back and then they charged us for the drinks we sent back. And even a beer our waitress spilt on her way to our table! WE DIDNT EVEN GET IT!
