I'm so happy that they reopened off of Washtenaw. My girlfriend was so upset that they left their Plymouth Road location because of new landlords. So, when I tried them for the first time, my expectations were SUPER high (which is usually a recipe for disaster). It did not disappoint! Their cream cheese is some of the best I ever had, their bagels ARE, perhaps, the best I ever had (and I grew up on NY bagels). Their breakfast sandwiches are out of this world! My ONLY note is it would be cool if they had some sort of system set up to order online (phones are often busy/unanswered) and so customers know exactly what bagels are in stock. read more

Only Michigan could create a deep fried bagel rolled in cinnamon sugar. Yep that is pure Michigan. Evil yet sweet, carb and fat laden. I admit it, I love a fragel. I am a Michigan girl born and bred so deep fried carbs covered in sugar sound just fabu. As I used to work down the road I could not avoid the fragel, even if I wanted to. I didn't of course but I tried to be good. When it is brought into work though, well all good intentions go out the door. The doughy texture, the gentle crunch of added sugar and the scent of cinnamon. Mmmm. Yeah my dietician would not approve, is it bad it makes the experience all the more appealing to me? The regular bagels are quite good in here. I especially like the salt and sesame varieties but they have so many to pick from as well as a good variety of cream cheeses. I have sampled some of their made to order luncheon bagel sammies and enjoyed them a lot too. I really like the other things here but for me it is sadly all about the fragel. If you have never tried a fragel you don't know what joy you are missing. It's probably better for your health that way but sometimes you gotta splurge. This review is strictly for the fragels since it's the only thing I've tried from here but boy is it amazing! I mean, can you really go wrong with a cinnamon-raisin bagel deep fried and topped with more cinnamon sugar goodness?!? It's so soft, chewy, warm, and just comforting. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's literally pure bliss! I always get my fresh and hot so that it's make it all the better. The staff is also always helpful and will let me sample any cream cheese I want. There are so many options so it really just depends on what I'm in the mood for. I usually go with the sweeter ones to complement the sugary fragel. I think my favorite is the chocolate chips cream cheese with Hersey's syrup...so good. Bottom line, if you've never had a fragel, make your way there ASAP. You won't regret it. Also, I've been there several times and the fragel is still good warmed in the microwave for a few seconds. Fresh and hot is always better but if someone still is quite tasty after it's been microwaved, I'd say we have a winner. read more

These are deep-fried cinnamon raisin bagels rolled in cinnamon sugar. They come out warm, chewy, sweet, and delicious. I could feel the blood-sugar rush as I chewed my way slowly through mine. I'd been meaning to try a fragel for a while, so I came here the other day for lunch. Since I figured a fragel alone would be insufficient, I also ordered a veggie pesto bagel sandwich, while my friend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. We should have started worrying when the person making the sandwiches informed us that sprouts would not be available for my friend's sandwich because there were problems with them related to the health code people... I thought my veggie sandwich was mediocre but at least edible. My friend's sandwich, however, looked awful. The chicken was barely recognizable, and the avocado was no longer bright-colored -- it was more of a sickly forest-green shade. The fragel was probably the best part of the meal. I love it here! Not only does their food taste good, but there's also a wide variety of bagel and schmear flavors. The people working there are friendly and seem to always be in a good mood. I haven't tried the famous Fragel yet, but on a particularly hungover weekend morning, I'm going for it. I stick to the bagel with cream cheese, or the awesome egg and cheese bagel sandwich (it's so not like the processed fast food versions of this). I had their cinnamon sugar bagels many times, and they were warm, soft and delicious. I tried their everything bagel this morning with eggs, cheddar cheese, and sausage sandwich. The bagel was toasted, very tasty. Unfortunately, the eggs tasted like robbery. It was pre made, frozen, then microwave that kind of eggs. Cheddar cheese was so little, hard to find it. I was super skeptical about this place when I first read about fragels. However, my skepticism was not well-founded. The fragels are delicious, reminiscent of an elephant ear but way better. Additionally, we got a regular 6-pepper blend bagel and a Nova (lox, onion, and cream cheese). These had perfectly balanced flavor and worked amazingly with garlic-peppercorn cream cheese. You can tell that despite being around for over 30 years, the owners truly care about maintaining quality and flavor rather than cutting quality to increase profits like so many other food establishments. I am so glad this place reopened!! Fresh bagels are essential, and I'm even more thrilled they are "essential" during lockdown. I've enjoyed the artichoke parmesan and the habanero cream cheese immensely. The habanero cream cheese is no joke, I was sweating by time I finished my bagel, which was so refreshing! I hate how unspicy spicy things have become, this cream cheese was bold. The everything bagels could be a little saltier and more garlic-y, but I'm just going to try an onion bagel next. The coffee is pretty good and the lady who has taken my orders is super nice! If you recall the Bagel Factory in Ann Arbor or Bagel Fragel in East Lansing -- you remember fragels. This is the only place around that still makes them, and it's hidden in a mini-mall near U of M's North Campus. The love-child of a doughnut and a bagel, fragels are a big doughy, cinnamon-and-sugar covered versions of extra soft raisin bagels. But anyone who's had one will tell you that description doesn't do them justice. Fragels are big, sweet messes of love and memories and not caring that you are eating like a messy little kid. Coming from out of town for a day trip in Ann Arbor, I was told that I needed to try a "fragel". I had no idea what a fragel was, and I was told it was unique to Ann Arbor and was a cinnamon raisin bagel that is fried and coated with cinnamon sugar. I have to admit I was skeptical at first since a bagel is already so dense, and imagining it fried didn't sound good. But boy was I wrong. This fragel is fluffy, soft, and perfectly sweet. But I think there is a greater disservice done if I do not write a review about this "establishments" food. I decided for the first time to give this place a try. I ordered two breakfast egg sandwiches. One with sausage, one with bacon. I love to stop here whenever I'm up on North campus. Like any similar bagel place, they have different bagel sandwiches and various flavored spreads/cream cheese. These are all predictable tasty. The fragel though - that thing is exceptionally good. It's a deep fried cinnamon raisin bagel that is then covered in sugar. They fry it up right when you order so it's always hot and fresh. They have a mindboggling selection of bagels, everything from plain to jalapeño and even habanero bagels. I really miss having good bagels since my time in the northeast, these are not quite that good but definitely the best outside of the northeast. I love the Smokin' Bird sandwich, which is turkey, Swiss and spicy honey mustard on a bagel of your choosing. I've gotten it on their Honey Wheat, which proved to be too sweet for this sandwich. Having been away from Ann Arbor for 30+ years I was excited to introduce my daughter to all things A2 including fragels. Excited to find MD Bagel Fragel, we stopped. After ordering, we left and went to the car to enjoy. While the fragel was good and the bagels fresh, my mom needed more creamer. My daughter went back into the store and the lady at the counter was so rude. My girl literally needed two small creamers and was grilled about why she needed them and if she was buying more coffee because the lady didn't know if she could just give her more cream. Mind you, she asked if we wanted cream when we ordered and my Mom said no, so technically those were the creams she was going to give us anyway! You know you're old when you become a regular at the local breakfast sandwich shop. I must say, some weeks, it takes a bacon and egg with jalapeño bagel sandwich to get me going in the morning, and boy does it do the trick. I work at the hospital, and drive down Plymouth from my house, so making a quick stop into Bagel Fragel is perrrrrrfect. I'm not a regular out of sheer convenience though, they have the goods to back it up too. I initially visited Bagel Fragel before a few football games to pick up some fragels and from the huge variety of different bagels they make for the early morning tailgates, but have come back because it was, as us Asians like to say, nom nom nom nom nom. They microwave the eggs and when I saw her put it in the microwave I was revolted and tried to order something else but the woman said "well it's already in there" and now me and my friend are sick. I've only had the Super Nova on an everything bagel here, after an intense craving for some bagel and lox. This bagel was full of cream cheese and smoked salmon which was well complimented with the tomato and onion.
