Ugh. How frustrating. Downtown Exeter is being torn up for new sidewalks. Businesses are complaining foot traffic is down 75%. So I stop by at 7:15 a.m. for coffee and a bagel to support the local establishment. No everything bagels, asked for the onion bagel to be toasted extra dark, it came out still white. It was obviously a stale leftover as it was chewy as rubber. And once you add a little cream to the coffee, it becomes room temperature. Sorry, tried to give you guys another chance. read more

I highly recommend this Cafe. They keep it very clean and the workers take pride in their work. I have read some bad reviews on here and I cannot believe what I have read. The food, drinks and staff are wonderful. It is a great place to meet up with friends or to get a coffee and get some work done. This was my first time having paninis with fresh bread, not the days-old, store-bought crap most places have. I got mine with egg, turkey and cheddar cheese on cheddar (or was it just "cheese"?)-garlic bread. My boyfriend got egg, tomato and cheese on triple seed bread. Since the paninis were halved, we each ate one half, then traded. I liked both breads. I noticed that even though we both got cheese, I had almost twice as much cheese as he did, contributing perhaps to the "heavy taste" that he thought mine had. I wasn't crazy about the egg, since it wasn't like a fried egg (where you could see the egg white and yolk), but the uniformly-yellow, uniformly thick, sponge-like rectangular thing that you get at Dunkin Donuts and other chain eateries. Still, I loved my panini and chai, which came out at drinking temperature (I always burn my tongue on hot drinks). The flip side to that, I guess, was that by the time I was toward the end, it was cold. But I'm a slow drinker, so that may have contributed to it. I also liked the mural painted on the side wall, with a brief illustrated story of how the bakery operates. It was bright and cheery, and a happy thing to see first thing in the morning. My boyfriend was fine, though, so I don't know if it was just my own body's inability to digest, oh, I don't know, cheese. But full disclosure--I got the runs a little while later, but that may have been because the amount of oil from the cheese *and* the cheesy bread was more than my body could handle (it does that sometimes.) Nice place to hang out and relax, read the paper, do some light work, or meet a friend for a casual lunch. Servers are usually very friendly and nice. Coffee and iced tea are good. Food is overall mediocre,the Asian sesame chicken salad is decent and the soups are good. It's nice they try and use some local ingredients. The turkey havarti panini is very tasty but there are unfortunately no gluten free options. Holy crap there are so many flies here. I have worked in kitchens before, and I understand a fly here or there. But they're constantly up in my business. It's actually less gross to me than it is annoying - I don't want to be constantly swatting flies away from my coffee. Local place and I love local joints like this. Staff is friendly and there is a lot of seating. Can't go wrong with the chicken salad sandwich on honey wheat. Me & Ollie's is such a waste of potential. The space is wonderful for meeting friends and the patio is a great place to hang out in the summer. I'd stopped in before for a cup of coffee and it was bitter. Thinking maybe it was just the way they brewed it, I decided to get a latte the next time. The girls working there, after seeing me standing there for a few minutes, finally break up their conversation to ask if I wanted anything. I order my drink and a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel. They inform me that they are saving the bagels and can only make me a sandwich on bread. I said fine. I figured I would be nice and put my change in the tip jar. They didn't say thank you. They didn't even smile, they just continued talking to each other. When my sandwich was done they shout out my name even though I was standing right there. When I get outside, I realize there is barely any bacon on my sandwich, and the egg looks like a cooked yellow rectangle. Would not recommend this place. read more

Atmosphere is very child friendly and inviting, but also tends to clog up with the supermommy crowd. Do these bitches have jobs? Get your coffee to go and walk down by the river instead. Bread is excellent....when they have it. The last 3 times I have gone into Me and Ollies, they were OUT OF BREAD. Saturday they were out of muffins at 10am. Never have I experienced such blatant disrespect as I did today at Me and Ollie's. I come to Me and Ollie's every day, and yet for some reason the staff thinks it's acceptable to accuse me of trying to swindle them out of a latte. I am dumbfounded by some of the staff members' lack of respect for their customers. I don't know who told them it was ever okay to treat customers that way. Today I went in and ordered $20 worth of food. Fifteen minutes after I placed my order I went up to the counter to ask about the status of my latte. The lady, "Doreen," said that she thought that she had already made it and assured me that I would get it. Another fifteen minutes later......still no latte. I was pretty pissed at this point so I went back to the counter for an explanation. Doreen very rudely claimed that she thought I had already gotten it and then said "okay" and turned away. Another worker approached my table a few minutes later (an Asian girl) and told me that Doreen had seen me take my latte. When I told her this wasn't the case (she had seen another customer pick up their latte) and that I had now been waiting 45 MINUTES FOR MY LATTE, she continued to insist that I was trying to steal it. I demanded a refund (which was refused) and asked for her manager. Her response was that she didn't know when the manager would be back and that there was nothing she could do about it. She was extremely rude throughout the entire interaction and finally turned around and walked away when I demanded my drink. I went up to the counter for THE THIRD TIME to receive compensation. All the while Doreen and the Asian girl were whispering and staring at me from behind the counter. The Asian girl proceeded to tell me that it was "sketchy" that I had waited 45 minutes to ask where my latte was (I had already been up to ask about it twice before) and that Doreen had already seen me take it. I was aghast that they had the audacity to accuse me of stealing a $4 latte from them. I HAVE PROBABLY SPENT OVER $1000 WITH THEM SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR! I tried telling the girl how ridiculous it was of her to accuse me of this since I am a daily customer (and there's the fact that you should never accuse a customer of stealing.......) but she continued to insist that I had stolen the latte. Luckily the manager (who magically appeared ) overheard the confrontation and hastily offered his apologies and promised to get me my drink (because he's not a fucking dumbass). I will NOT be going back to Me and Ollie's for a very long time. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. Customers deserve a basic level of respect and you will not find it at Me and Ollie's. read more

This place is frustrating. It's in a great location and is set up fairly well with various sized tables and some couches. The problem is that the coffee is terrible, the menu choices are weak and the service is fair at best (not overly friendly). Food is sub par. The rueben is my favorite--very tasty--but potato salad is bland. Service is good, coffee is ok...its successful because of it's convenience and location--not it's quality. Jesse and I stopped here on our wild adventure to get coffee, pee, and find out where the hell we were. We got out coffee, peed, got a loaf of tasty garlic cheese bread for later, and sort of had an idea that we were close to where we were trying to get in the middle of a snow storm. They lose a star because the service wasn't great, and we got some blank stares. Now often these are stale .They tried to upgrade the finishes but wasted their money and left the ratty old couches that have been there 15 years .... Don't sit on them , they are gross . The other day I went in there to get a coffee as green bean a cross the street was closed . I threw it in the trash, it was not drinkable so bitter, worse than gas station coffee. Located in downtown Exeter, the bakery is roomy and clean. Basic cafe atmosphere with some dishes but mainly sandwiches, pastries and coffee/tea. The food is good though it can be pricey depending on what you order and the portions weren't that big. The coffee and latte was decent and the service was good and relatively friendly. The only consistency at this cafe is their inconsistencies. I typically visit the Greenland location and either get take out or drive thru. 9/10 times there is either something missing from my order or made inconsistently with what the menu states. A few examples.... most recently, both onion and cucumber were missing from my veritable veggie, my tuna sandwich was made on wheat on one occasion when the menu states white, several times I have been missing cheese from my sandwiches. These are just a few of many mishaps. I'm honestly not sure why I keep going back, other than the bread is delicious! I would like to add that most recently I strategically requested extra cucumber so that there was no chance that it be forgotten, and imagine that.........I ended up without cucumber once again. I placed a phone call to the manager at the Greenland Me and Ollie's where all of this has been occurring and was apologized to and was told that I would be compensated a free sandwich; a note would be left on the register to reflect this. Went to get my free sandwich, no note was found on the register. Im am officially done giving this business or lack there of any of my hard earned money. read more
