Was pretty excited to eat here because of the reviews. The staff was helpful with our order since it was our first visit. The Babaghanoush lacked any smoke or roasting flavors. It was basically just baked, cubed eggplant flesh with fresh onions and red peppers minced on top. It came with no chips or bread. The staff did give us bread when we asked. The pita was cold and lackluster. On to the main - ordered the chicken and beef mixed grill with spicy hummus (up-charge). On the positive side the beef was cooked to order. All was a proper temperature. The chicken and the beef were BORING! No flavor - even for Mediterranean. The spicy hummus was the highlight of the lunch. The interior was pleasant but the outside seating is really not good - uncovered and on the street. All in all - given the price, variety and quality of the competition- will not be back. In Houston, you had better bring your A-game or you will not make it. On this dish these folks clearly have not. We had baklava :(. Not to our liking. Very solid Mediterranean food spot in the greenway plaza area! Went around 6 pm on a Thursday evening and it was empty, but a couple other patrons trickled in after us. Got takeout and everything seemed to be cooked fresh. The space is very clean and comfortable. The loaded fries were really delicious, I love the crinkle cut. You can choose chicken or doner to top the fries. Went with chicken because was trying doner in a different dish, the combo of the crispy fries and meat and sauces was very satisfying. The beef plate was ok, I liked the rice, there were only 6 pieces of beef and a few pieces of bell pepper and onion. I wish that there was more meat and veg. The beef itself was flavorful and had a nice char, I just wanted more of it. The doner plate was my favorite, the meat was spiced and tender and flavorful and it was a nice serving size. Both plates came with a side salad and a sauce. I liked the garlic sauce and the mild red, will have to try the third sauce option next time. Also came with pita bread! Bright spacious interior, made to order fresh Turkish food, and the friendliest owner that is truly passionate about his restaurant. This place is a MUST try! Mean Grille is everything you could love about a small family owned business. The service here is top notch and so inviting. Food wise, I recommend their Adana kebab plate with extra spicy cilantro sauce, pistachio cake, and Turkish tea to wash it down. The beef/lamb kebab is just so flavorful and juicy. Then their spicy cilantro sauce would be great on just about anything. The side salad that comes with the kebab plates is super refreshing too, I believe they use a pomegranate citrus vinaigrette. Please give this place a try!! I came here for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't busy. Stopped by early Sunday and was greeted by the owner. He was so warm and inviting, taking his time to explain the menu. Because I was so early, slow cooked meats like the doner and steak weren't ready, but again, I was there shortly after opening. I saw there was tea, and after a thorough explanation on flavors and how to prepare, it was purchased. I got the Mediterranean Shrimp with cilantro sauce; great, balanced portions size, well cooked shrimp (tails removed), fresh veggies; the sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Got the Adana Kebab Plate and Mediterranean Shrimp Plate. The servings are lunch style and portion so they are good for a quick bite. Adana was so incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. Really had that Turkish flavor and spices. Shrimps were huge, perfectly cooked, and also very juicy, but the stir fry and seasoning reminded me more of Asian cooking. Overall, the food is amazing, but I think some extra spices or seasoning can be added to either the rice, the protein, or the sauce to give it an OOMPH! For example, the Turkish tea was so fragrant and filled with complex spices that the moment you take the first sip, you are instantly enwrapped in the richness that Turkey food culture has to offer. I fell in love with doner kebab traveling in Europe and ever since it's baffled me why it's not more common place here! It's so delicious. Wow! I'm so glad I finally tried this place. I was feeling in the mood for soup after the chilly weather here in Houston. I got a large bowl of the red lentil soup and it was absolutely delicious. Talk about a flavor explosion! I could eat that stuff every day. I also ordered 3 pieces of falafel. The falafel was perfect! I really enjoyed the red sauce that I got with my falafel. You place your order at the front and then are able to seat yourself at one of the many tables or booths spread around the room. We were not sure what to order, but the man at the front was very helpful by offering explanations and recommendations. We started with the hummus, which came with pita and carrots. This was probably the best, most fresh hummus that I have ever tasted. The drinks were fun! We got mineral waters-- one watermelon and one bubblegum. At first when opening the delivery package there was a welcoming personal note written on top of one of the delivery boxes which contained 2 complimentary hazelnut cookies. Very nice it reminded me somewhat of a an Indian gulab jamun, flavor wise. Though that was the highlight. We ordered Donerz plates and what we received was not what we expected. Plate had no vegetables or toppings except pickled onions and some sauce (sauce was very good and great spice), which seemed we had to use to help swallow the meat that was super dry...not sure if it being delivery was the culprit. This was accompanied by a small pita and came out to a whopping $17. Spicy Hummus w/carrots (didn't seem spicy, but flavor was okay) added $2 more. This was not worth the price. What we got to what we thought we would have gotten was a complete 180. Complimentary hazelnut cookies does not compensate for what we received. read more

Love that there is a Turkish restaurant in such a busy location (right around the corner from LA Crawfish & Urban Social). I'm typically used to eating ahead of time when I'm out this way because of the lack of vegan options available but I really enjoyed eating here. The vegan plate comes with hummus, pita, carrots, & a mini salad, some falafel, & your choice of a sauce. I got the tahini. Amazing how my normally poor eyesight can suddenly zoom in at 20/20 when I'm near restaurants! By chance, I saw Mean Grille in the space that used to be Thai Cottage (3995 Richmond), but more importanly, I saw the tag that it serves Turkish food, which might be my favorite of all cuisines. My spouse and I stopped in Sunday night and were greeted heartily by the delightful owner Onur. The place is bright and cheery, and the menu is not extensive, though Onur beamed with pride in telling us that everything is made from scratch and with organic, locally-sourced ingredients. I don't always buy that when I hear it, but one taste of the Turkish-style salad that accompanied my entree, and I was convinced that he'd just picked the ingredients minutes before from a garden out back. We shared a falafel plate--here, they are patty-style and the fava mix is cumin-specked and gorgeously green from parsley and what I'm guessing to be coriander. They are served with your choice of sauces--try all 3 of them. We enjoyed the cilantro-garlic sauce with the falafel. For an entree, my spouse had a packed-with-flavor chicken kebab wrap full of veggies and a house-made hummus. I had one of my favorite dishes, Adana kebab, made with spiced lamb grilled on charcoal. The meat bursts with flavor and comes with a side of that amazing fresh salad topped with a pomegranate-sweetened dressing. So many nice little touches here, thanks to Onur and his partner. Adding to the pink motif and artwork, tables are set with Himlayan pink salt. If you wear pink on Wednesday, I understand you get a discount on your food. They serve fabulous fizzy Beypazari sodas from Türkiye sweetened with beets instead of sugar, and the soda machine has Maine Root Beverages. Mean Grille also features a selection of wines and beers and will soon have frozen adult bevvies. We were too full to try desserts, but the ones we saw look fantastic! We had such a great experience here--the charm and kindness of Onur is a big reason, along with the fresh, delicious food. A gem of a place! The owner, Onur, is so sweet and genuine. They make everything in-house to order from locally sourced ingredients. They stay away from big name corporate food as much as possible. We got several yummy items, including hummus, falafel, fries, chicken kabob, döner, baklava, and a few of their Turkish imported sparkling drinks--which were quite tasty and not filled with sugar. Everything was delicious and fresh! The rice is so good, their salads are just like homemade. The baklava is fabulous! So moist and gooey, exactly how it should be!
