1st time visiting this spot & it was amazing!! Food was very fresh, delicious flavor, clean ingredients. Friendly service, clean restaurant. Checked everything off for me! Will be back again. I got the chicken wrap, spicy. Will be getting the bowl next time!

This place is tucked off behind the movie theater and such a gem. The only thing that kinda sucks is the Richmond/Weslayan intersection. But it's worth a little defensive driving. The chicken wrap was delish, the chicken was juicy and very fresh the veggies were packed in the pita. The juices did shoot out the bottom, needed a tighter tuck. The spicy cilantro sauce was really good. It wasn't too spicy and had a nice kick, although I am a spice lover. The wait wasn't long and the staff was friendly. I thought the decor was welcoming. Will definitely be coming back.

Mixed Grill - steak and chicken

Was pretty excited to eat here because of the reviews. The staff was helpful with our order since it was our first visit. The Babaghanoush lacked any smoke or roasting flavors. It was basically just baked, cubed eggplant flesh with fresh onions and red peppers minced on top. It came with no chips or bread. The staff did give us bread when we asked. The pita was cold and lackluster. On to the main - ordered the chicken and beef mixed grill with spicy hummus (up-charge). On the positive side the beef was cooked to order. All was a proper temperature. The chicken and the beef were BORING! No flavor - even for Mediterranean. The spicy hummus was the highlight of the lunch. The interior was pleasant but the outside seating is really not good - uncovered and on the street. All in all - given the price, variety and quality of the competition- will not be back. In Houston, you had better bring your A-game or you will not make it. On this dish these folks clearly have not. We had baklava :(. Not to our liking. The food was a 2-star, the service was a 3.5- star and ambiance a 4. Note - no alcohol!

    Governor's Plate chopped with sauces!

This may not look very appetizing, (trust me, it's delicious!!) But this is day two of my dinner from Mean Grille and the rest is for tomorrow. Best meal prep in town! This place is yummy. I ordered The Governor's Plate, (I chopped everything up. It doesn't come that way), extra side of grilled veggies and an order of fries bc their crinkle fries are delicious! And a perfect vehicle to shovel that yummy house-made spicy cilantro sauce down lol. All their sauces are amazing! One is better than the next. Get them all and a lot of it! You'll use them on everything. Great salad dressing, marinade, pasta salad sauce, etcccc! Honestly, it would take hours to meal prep this and yet a click on DoorDash and I've got healthy, delicious food for 3 days. Well, the fries weren't healthy. Everything in moderation, amirite? Thanks Mean Grille. See you soon

Highly recommend. Perfect for after the gym!!! I'm thinking I go back tomorrow too. I'm here on travel. Shame we don't have one of these spots back home

After having been to Mean Grille twice now, and trying just about 1 of everything on the menu, I can for certain tell you that this place is legit great! Bright spacious interior, made to order fresh Turkish food, and the friendliest owner that is truly passionate about his restaurant. This place is a MUST try! Mean Grille is everything you could love about a small family owned business. The service here is top notch and so inviting. Food wise, I recommend their Adana kebab plate with extra spicy cilantro sauce, pistachio cake, and Turkish tea to wash it down. The beef/lamb kebab is just so flavorful and juicy. Then their spicy cilantro sauce would be great on just about anything. The side salad that comes with the kebab plates is super refreshing too, I believe they use a pomegranate citrus vinaigrette. Please give this place a try!! I came here for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't busy. I truly think if more people gave this place a shot, they'd always be crowded with their big portions and tasty made to order Turkish food. 10/10 recommend! Enjoy!

    Mediterranean Shrimp

Stopped by early Sunday and was greeted by the owner. He was so warm and inviting, taking his time to explain the menu. Because I was so early, slow cooked meats like the doner and steak weren't ready, but again, I was there shortly after opening. I saw there was tea, and after a thorough explanation on flavors and how to prepare, it was purchased. I got the Mediterranean Shrimp with cilantro sauce; great, balanced portions size, well cooked shrimp (tails removed), fresh veggies; the sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Dessert was good, not too sweet. I think I got hints of rose water? Clean, vibrant colors, lots of seating. I loved it.

Got the Adana Kebab Plate and Mediterranean Shrimp Plate. The servings are lunch style and portion so they are good for a quick bite. Adana was so incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. Really had that Turkish flavor and spices. Shrimps were huge, perfectly cooked, and also very juicy, but the stir fry and seasoning reminded me more of Asian cooking. Overall, the food is amazing, but I think some extra spices or seasoning can be added to either the rice, the protein, or the sauce to give it an OOMPH! For example, the Turkish tea was so fragrant and filled with complex spices that the moment you take the first sip, you are instantly enwrapped in the richness that Turkey food culture has to offer. I would like to see the same reflected in their entrees. Will be back to try the Doner!

New Turkish cuisine in town and we need more of these. Food was good and service was awesome. 1st time trying Turkish tea and I love it. Maybe a bigger glass would be nice

I fell in love with doner kebab traveling in Europe and ever since it's baffled me why it's not more common place here! It's so delicious. I was really excited to see doner on their menu and while it's different than what I've had, it was really good. The spicy cilantro had a great kick to it and I could drink the garlic sauce. The red sauce is a bit salty. It's a great location, I'll definitely stop here regularly before a trip to AMC or Costco (keep me from overbuying ).

Great food, taste good and it's very fresh. Great customer service. The restaurant is nice and clean. I'm definitely coming back.

    Beef Tenderloin Plate*

Went in for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. The dining area is clean and very well kept. I'm guessing the manager of the place was the one working when we went and he was very friendly and told us what comes on each plate. The food was SO GOOD! My husband basically licked his plate clean! The cilantro spicy sauce was delicious if you like a kick. The garlic sauce wasn't too garlicky either it was absolutely perfect. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and was so juicy and tender. We will definitely be back!!

Mean Grille serves perfectly balanced plates. This time I tried a chicken kebab plate and it was delicious as expected. Chicken was juicy and seasoned well. I love the spicy cilantro sauce, it ties everything together well. Pita bread was fresh and the vegetables were much needed for a refreshing side.

All dinners come with a Greek garlic bread starter. I love their iced tea- fresh brewed and always good! The wine is Greek and seems a small bit pricey, but for the extra dollar or two it's worth it- Very delicious. Anything you get at Athena's is amazing so feel free to branch out on your choice. And the desserts are large and homemade! It's hard to save room though. You'll love the fish, steaks, and kebabs. They do a nice lunch sandwich- and still comes with the bread and a Greek salad. If you come on a weekend evening, you may run into the owner having the time of her life! And they take pride in serving the most sweet and ripe slice of melon with every dish. Started to enjoy this first each time I come. It is that delicious, but why can't I find fruit like that anywhere at a grocery store? Give this place a try. Yummy. Officially the authentic Greek restaurant without going overboard. Wait- the homemade 3 layer chocolate cake and the lemon cake! Actually bought a whole one for a large birthday party and everyone wanted to know the bakery name- just Athena's homemade cake! Remember, Greek food is fresh with best ingredients. Service is above that notch and family atmosphere with Greek music- always. But I do find I'm stopping in there solo all the time; others too! Again this meal comes with the same enjoyable side salad with bread and I chose the Briami as the supplied side dish. The Kokkinisto (Greek beef stew) arrived on a bed of rice and covered in its herbed tomato sauce with garlic and onions. The Briami was in a separate bowl of stewed veggies in a light tomato sauce. I liked this meal better. The stew had good flavor with tender beef and a tasty red sauce. Also the veggies were good tasting too. I gave this meal a 4. Finally the waitress was very friendly. I believe her name was Jennifer? I like this restaurant and believe they serve good tasting and authentic Greek food.

Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character.
