I couldn't distinguish any brisket in my Mac but lots of yummy pulled pork. Wish I'd had more brisket, and wish it was piping hot. I really enjoyed the funky ambience. Despite a Triple D recommendation and gps, I drove right by the place so glad I parked in public lot and walked the art district Old Town to find the address because it looks like a righteous hidden gem of a smokehouse once you arrive. I was told about a BBQ place on Old Town called 'Meat BBQ.' It is located in a section of Old Town that is not easily recognizable. I had to park and then use my GPS to walk the rest of the way as there are no clear markings for this place. People just know about it. So, I was greeted by a bright red door with the sign above it 'MEAT.' I guess there is no guessing on what you are coming here for. The establishment is 100% dive. Very eclectic and every corner packed with people. I went to the bar to eat. I was able to sit, order and get my food in less than 10 minutes. Much faster then the table service and the bartender was very friendly, and since I was new, he made some great recommendations. A word of warning, the portions are enormous! Go small on the plates or share a plate. It is a tremendous amount of food, but oh boy, so worth it!! So. BBQ in Michigan? It just did not sound right, but this place was on point at all levels. I had the Brisket (lean, as they have a fatty version as well) along with ribs with a side of the Jalapeno slaw and Parmesan Fries. Wow, were do I start? The food was just tremendous. For those who like their beer, they have more selections than most establishments and some really interesting brews for those who love to try new stuff. For my friends in Cali, this place makes Lucielles look like cafeteria food. It was that good and cheaper as well. The ribs fell off the bone. The smoked bark on the ribs was perfect. The rub used on it made it that you really did not need any sauce; however, they do have six versions of BBQ sauce to try. After the ribs, the brisket was the lean version which is what I requested, and I tried one of their sauces, and it was absolutely delicious. The Jalapeno Slaw was crazy good. I wish I had the recipe as I would make it at home. Delicious side. The parmesan fries were so friggn good as well. Super crispy, seasoned with some garlic and topped off with cheese. OMG, heart attack on a plate, but I did not want to stop eating, but I had to as it was just too much for one person. Lastly, the cornbread tasted like a nice light cake. I could have eaten a few of these. It is not your traditional cornbread which was nice for a change and soooo good. Everything about MEAT is not your norm, and that is what gives it its persona. Be warned, get their early for lunch, meaning 1130 latest or early for dinner or you will be waiting 45 minutes. Regardless, the food was on point, and the service was excellent, my overall experience could not have been better. I brought home the leftovers for others to try and they loved it that night. Well again another great establishment you have to try if your in Lansing Michigan. This place was on Diners Drive Inns & Dives and I can see why. It's a small restaurant worth the wait, so grab a beer a sit n wait it's well worth it. So for dinner I ordered the 1/2 rack ribs jalapeño sausage n fatty brisket. That's really all you need to no it was killer. The ribs were cooked perfect slight hint of smoke and lots of flavors. Then the brisket it was so tender so moist n just enough fat to kick it up a notch. The sausage was just as good it was delicious. Perfect evening for great food and great drinks. I don't even know where to start on this place. I am a big fan of barbecue. Whether it be brisket, pulled pork or just some simple grilled chicken, anything off the grill is on my menu. Meat BBQ provides its customers with a "Rocking" atmosphere and some delicious BBQ!! I have been here multiple times and continue to enjoy there food more and more every time. I don't know how this place escaped my radar. Hit it for the first time last week. Has the ambiance of a good BBQ joint and the place was packed. I HIGHLY recommend the wings (dry rub only) as they were fabulous. The brisket was also excellent and I like the fact that this joint offers either a regular or "fatty" cut - always a good sign! Obviously, if the Q is good, a fatty cut is the way to go. To be honest, I enjoyed my brisket leftovers better than at the restaurant. This is rare as brisket is not the best for re-heat but I simply believe it was just a bit cool when initially served. Meanwhile, there was enough fat on the cut that it heated up well. My family was mixed on the ribs. Flavor was great but they were St Louis style while many prefer the meatier and leaner baby back. They still had a bit of "chew" to them and were not complete "fall off the bone" tender. Again, this is personal preference but I think the flavors were spot on with a great level of smoke. Split on Mac and cheese. My side could not have been any dryer but my daughters looked like a bowl of creamy goodness. Hot links did have a kick and were good but I prefer a regular smoked sausage. Creamed corn was great! One thing we did not get is the fried pickles - they looked incredible! The only thing lacking on the menus is some sort of vegetable. I would recommend that they add the following to round out their offering: Fried okra, collard greens and a gumbo. Sauces are also quite good! I look forward to a second visit and plan to order some of those great wings and a side of brisket (and fried pickles). read more

Awesome food but I had a bad experience! My friend and I came here and we had the worst service. We were the only women of color and all the people around us where white families . My friend ordered her food and got the wrong thing. We waited for our server to stop by or ask us how we were doing and nothing. We then realized that he would ask the tables around us how they were doing and if they needed anything and failed to give us the same hospitality. (Asked the tables how they were doing about 7/8 times) My drink was empty and I got no refill. My friend made eye contact with him plenty of times trying to get his attention and completely ignored us. He was over at the table behind us and was about to walk by us again without asking us anything and we finally got him to come over to our table. He replaced my friends food but by then it was too late because I had already finished my food and she wasn't hungry no more. We asked to speak to a manager and conveniently enough he was the manager, so I highly doubt our complain will go anywhere. He didn't even seem empathetic towards his actions. Finally made it to Meat, and we were pretty happy with our decision. The staff was friendly and attentive, and we always appreciate that. A different kind of setting from what I think most folks would think of when they go for BBQ, but that's OK too... I actually liked having a little heavy metal/rock playing while we ate. The music wasn't loud at all, so why not? Before I start on the food, let me start by saying, I've had BBQ all over the country, and the one universal truth is this... whether you like a particular BBQ or not is highly subjective, so with that in mind, here we go... To start, we had the parmesan garlic fries, and they were WONDERFUL. We like garlic, and these were better than we had hoped for. Usually, when something says "garlic" in a restaurant, there's not enough for us, but this... This was perfect. You absolutely, without a doubt, know there is garlic on your fries. For lunch, I had the meat plate with lean brisket, half-rack of ribs, blue cheese and bacon potato salad and BBQ beans, so let's step through those: The brisket: Good bark, nice smoke ring and a fair amount of flavor. It didn't "just" taste like roast beef, like a lot of other "BBQ" places in the north seem to serve. There was some smoke and spice flavor to it. The only knock I have on the brisket is that it seemed a bit tough. It didn't pull apart so the knife was helpful. Pork ribs: Good texture, great smoke ring and smoke flavor. The spices they use are pretty tangy, and they were actually very good. The meat pulled away from the bone pretty easily with a good chew. Blue cheese and bacon potato salad: Well, if you like blue cheese, which I do, this is for you. Very creamy, rich and flavorful, but not overpowering. The potato is cooked just right so it's not mush when you get it, but it's easy to chew. Just a different, and very pleasant dish. BBQ beans: There's just as much meat as there are beans in this dish. Smooth, smokey flavor with a fair amount of spice in the mix. Unexpected, but once again, very pleasant. The girlfriend had the chopped brisket sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The mac and cheese wasn't spectacular to us. Not overly creamy or flavorful, but not bad either. It was mac and cheese. But now, the best part of the meal! Keeping in mind what I wrote earlier about preferences playing into your BBQ "likes", I say this...The sandwich she had today was, bar none, the best BBQ sandwich I have ever tasted. Absolutely spectacular! The brisket, onions and slaw blend together perfectly and even though I would try something different next time just to check it out, if all else fails, we would both go back for this sandwich again, without question. read more

We were sat immediately and took in the decor of the restaurant. The menu was small, but had lots of different options. Nothing worse than an overwhelming selection. I ordered the Mac and cheese with brisket, pulled pork and garlic. My coworker got a meat plate with the lean brisket and pulled pork, with a side of the spicy creamed corn and Mac and cheese.
