Got the chance to try this new Mexican restaurant out on a Tuesday evening. We went for dinner around 6:00pm and were seated right away with chips & salsa and a friendly waiter to take our drink order. Their menu features many traditional Mexican drinks- signature margaritas, cocktails, agave cosmo, sangria and mezcal! I ordered the fajita quesadilla. My BF ordered the regular chicken fajitas and they were both amazing!!! I'll def be back for more. And you should DEF check this place out too!!! One of the best parts of our visit was the friendly staff! Everyone was sooo nice and thankful for our business. Delicious fresh Mexican food! We have eaten from here twice - once being takeout and just this weekend we dined in the restaurant. Lots of options on the menu that it was hard to choose. The two entrees I've had were the Burria tacos and grilled shrimp tacos. Both were super flavorful and hit the spot. I also enjoyed the shrimp tacos with a nice spicy margarita on the side too. Rice and beans were cooked perfectly and went well with the main. I'm already looking forward to ordering or dining here again! read more

We went there Friday night and the food and service were great. Even though the place was pretty full the food came out quickly. Guacamole is a decent size vs in many other places you get a tiny dish. I had the enchiladas and my wife had a burrito. Both were great but the burrito was out of the world. After seeing so many positive reviews of this place I so badly wanted to like it but it wasn't a win for me. I ordered a lunch combo for pickup. The restaurant seemed clean, well decorated, and staff were friendly. My order was ready within a reasonable amount of time (especially considering it was lunch time) and was hot. Unfortunately there were several issues. For one, I was really disappointed that they decided to package a tostada on top of the very wet refried beans in an unvented container. Poor tostada never had a chance to be crispy upon eating. :( As I started to pick up the tostada I noticed that there wasn't any meat on it. At all. It was supposed to have beef so I returned to have it remade. I also had added a note for onion to be added but that wasn't present either. The employee near the front kindly handled the situation and asked the kitchen to remake the order for me. While I was waiting, I noticed the MOD come over and inquire about the mistake to the employee who handled it, but never came over to speak to me directly despite seeming confused about the issue. When the remade food was returned to me it wasn't as hot as the first time so I'm not actually sure if it all was fresh or not. the tostada had ground beef on it which was very greasy and at this point the food was nearly mush. I guess I was expecting shredded beef rather than ground but that's okay. Still there wasn't any onion even though I had given the receipt that had the added note over when I asked for the order to be remade. When I finally got to eat my food it was extremely disappointing. The beans had decent flavor, but everything else was bland. The most surprising being the salsa that both had the texture and taste of pizza sauce. It was 95% tomato, no onion, pepper, seasoning, and barely any cilantro. The chips were very oily but tasted like pre-made chips. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and money. I ended up throwing out much of the food and getting something from elsewhere. Good service- like really nice folks. Salsa was some of the best. Not watery, nice smoky chipotle flavor. Chips were standard grade, and sturdy with a good crunch. Enchiladas supremas were just ok. Horrible. Steak fajita was the worst I have ever had. Steak alone wasn't good, seeming to be pieces from a bag. Sour cream was liquid, no cheese, no guac. Service was horrible... I'm glad I finally tried the place everyone in Henrietta is raving about! We've really needed a Mexican Restaurant this side of town. They have really done a great job to freshen up that area. It's bright and colorful. It will be a great stop on those cold, dull Winter days. The service was excellent. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Food was very good, really appreciated that they had vegan options. Portions could have been a bit more generous. Salsa is really good - lots of garlic. Service was efficient. It wasn't busy when we went. It was nice to sit by the door to the courtyard with our kids because they could run in and out a bit while waiting for food (again, it wasn't busy, obviously wouldn't have allowed that if it was). read more

Everything tasted authentic, even down to the salsa and chips. Delish. An unexpected bonus was the chili relleno, which was not breaded and fried. Lots of fresh taste and topped with chipotle sauce. Disclaimer: This would probably be a 3-4 star review if this restaurant weren't new; but I generally try to give less critical scores for newly opened restaurants. I think the food at Mecate is good overall but I think the restaurant plays it too safe with Americanized Mexican food (i.e., flavors are quite mild / subdued and lack the flavor explosion I would expect from Mexican food). For example, the salsa tasted like chunky tomato (spaghetti) sauce, there was no heat nor other flavors that one would expect (e.g., cilantro, lime). I tried the chipotle chicken entree which I generally liked, but felt the sauce could have used a bit more flavor. I also tried the (chicken) tamal which was pretty good and came covered in a sauce that didn't add flavor and honestly, made the tamal a little soggy (i.e., I don't think the sauce was necessary). All in all, I would say this is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Rochester: far and away better than Salenas; easily better than Adelitas and Neno's; slightly better than Guacamole, Old Pueblo Grill, and Mesquite; slightly worse than Monte Alban and Rio Tomatlan; and not even in the same class El Ricon in Sodus (the standard bearer, IMO, for excellent Mexican food in the area) read more

My husband and I went there for the first time Saturday. The food was plentiful, amazing and extremely reasonably priced. They bring you a courtesy platter of warm Tortilla chips and salsa. I had the steak fajitas. It came with rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and really hot Tortilla shells. I also ordered a side of guacamole. The Guacamole was the absolute best and freshest I've ever had. I couldn't eat half, the portion was so huge. And all for under $20.00. My husband ordered a Burrito stuffed with rice beans and Carnitas. A glass of house Chardonnay was $6.00. We will definitely be returning. This place opened about 18 months ago and they also have a new one in Macedonia. They are brothers from Honduras. If you like Mexican you will love this place. I can't wait to go back.
