Mecha Noodle Bar was a great addition to a day at the Smithsonian National Zoo and the second visit confirmed everything I remembered. Free parking in the fenced in lot and a short walk made access easy. A small detail that goes a long way when you have a hungry group of college kids ready to eat. We just missed happy hour but that did not stop us from ordering off the munchies and drinks menu. I ordered the liquid gold. My daughter finally found her drink after two misses, mango sticky rice and lotus flower bomb, before landing on a spiked Thai iced tea that was a clear winner. We ordered the spicy tuna hand rolls, yuzu kosho corn, red oil and roasted mushroom dumplings, firecracker wings, and Korean fried chicken baos. The dumplings and kosho corn stood out, both coming with sauces that had their own thing going on. The wings were suggested as one of their best appetizers and cooked well but the taste would have fallen flat without the lime leaf ranch to carry them. Entrees brought pho bo vien, spicy miso 2.0 ramen, spicy beef ramen, and tonkotsu 3.0 ramen, all served piping hot and full of flavor. Three squeeze bottles of sauce sit on the table and they are worth trying. If you have a large party ask for backups because one round will not cover the table. Portions were large enough that to go containers were necessary. The space is large and inviting, bright colors and wooden furniture pleasantly somewhere between upscale and casual, loud enough for energy but quiet enough for real conversation. Exactly the right vibe for a celebration with adult kids and their mom. We skipped dessert to save room for ice cream down the block, tapped to pay, got a texted receipt, and were out the door. We will be back for happy hour because 50% off drinks and munchies would have made this outing even better. Mecha Noodle Bar is a table worth gathering at with family and friends.
Loved every thing we tried! The Short Ribs are amazing, Barbecue Skewer, AMAZING. This whole menu and the happy hour combined is a steal. Eating like Anime Royalty and they play Anime like Naruto on the screens as well. Intimate and beautiful moments here where you're dining alone or with the crew!
Came here with a friend and had a lovely time! The service was quick and friendly. I didn't love the backless stools but that's my only complaint. I got the pho ga and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely will be back!
Mecha is by far my new favorite ramen spot! I can't believe I haven't done a review already. First things first, you have to get the edamame. This is the most uniquely prepared edamame I've ever had. It's packed with herbs and spices and so flavorful that you won't go back to regular edamame after trying it here. I've ordered quite a few items off the menu, and I've been equally satisfied every time. I've had the Pho Ga and the Shoyu Paitan...both were so delicious. They come with extras so you can customize your bowl with hoisin, chili flakes, and more, which I love. One time I went with a friend who's pescatarian, and we ordered the Cha Ca La Bong (catfish). It was incredibly flavorful and filling. It's served cold, a delicious sauce. But don't let this cold dish fool you ...it does not disappoint. We also ordered the General Tso shrimp, and I got the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Everything was delicious. As for drinks, I don't quite remember which frozen one I ordered, but it didn't give much of a buzz. The regular alcoholic drinks, though? They definitely got the job done. Every time I've gone, the service has been excellent. Everyone is welcoming, smiling, and genuinely seems proud to serve you. I also appreciate that if you don't finish your ramen, they box it up thoughtfully, packing the broth and noodles separately so it stays fresh. Highly recommend!
Highlighting a few of the amazing spots we found in DC. I was so impressed with this fusion spot, they reimagined some classic dishes in the most unique ways. To start the wings were crispy and lightly spicy. Then we ordered a pho which had an interesting ginger and possibly liver texture? The ramen broth had a surprising shrimp flavor, the noodles were bouncy and pork was flavorful and tender. Getting the pho and ramen was literally the best of both worlds! Definitely recommend!
Mecha Noodle Bar was pretty good. I visited on a Thursday at 6 PM and it was about 1/3 full. The place is very casual. Many of the tables have benches on one side and small stool on the other; it's fine, but not the most comfy. Tables are also loaded with the basic chopsticks, napkins, menus, and condiments you need. We tried the Kale Salad, Red Oil Dumplings, Firecracker Wings, Spicy Miso 2.0 ramen, and Tonkotsu 3.0 ramen. The kale salad was fine but a little lame. The wings weren't "firecracker" -- not spicy at all -- but had a very nice dry rub and smoky flavor (very similar to the wings at Succotash). The dumplings were enormous and pretty good, but I wish the sauce stuck to the dumplings better. Ramen was also good; I preferred the Spicy Miso over the Tonkotsu. Service was a little too basic. We had to flag down a waiter to get water, water wasn't refilled, the check and pay pad weren't picked up quickly, and I got the wrong ramen order.
People didn't used to come to this neighborhood for food and even after union market came, it was not a place for a nice sitdown meal. But this Ramen bar along with several other restaurants have arrived and were bustling. It would've been hard to get a table, but I snagged a bar seat for a pre-movie meal. They had a couple of vegetarian options, but the idea of a curry laksa with basil oil sounded mouthwatering. The ginger beer I got to open head quite a kick and came with a large piece of candy ginger as well. I had thought about a Boba tea, but I was not disappointed in this. The Ramen was excellent. Spicier than expected with a good variety of vegetables. Being seated where I could watch, the preparation was inspiring as well. And the basil oil did add to an already intoxicating flavor combination. They hit exactly what I was hoping for from them.
Tried the Firecracker Wings, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Mushroom Dumplings. The Firecracker Wings were just okay, but the Spicy Salmon Roll and Mushroom Dumplings were really good! The servers were sweet, and the ambiance was cozy. It wasn't very crowded/was pretty chill.
Mecha noodle bar is conveniently located in Union market. The menu is quite extensive, with lots more options than your traditional ramen spot. I ordered the spicy miso and added an egg. My bowl came out surprisingly fast. I was worried it wouldn't be good with how quickly it came out, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot and the broth was delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked and I loved the taste of each of the ingredients in the bowl. The atmosphere is dope too - they were playing Outkast and Lauryn Hill while I was there, so really cool vibes. My server was also very friendly and attentive. Overall, I think this is a great and much needed addition to the neighborhood and I highly recommend checking it out.
I went to Mecha by myself and it ended up being one of those meals that just lands perfectly. I ordered the General Tso's shrimp and it was phenomenal. Crispy, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted after craving shrimp and Asian inspired food. Every bite was balanced and satisfying and honestly just made me happy. This is the kind of dish you keep thinking about after you leave. I also ordered the In My No Drinking Era mocktail with pineapple, ginger, Thai mango, citrus, yuzu, and club soda, and it felt genuinely celebratory even without alcohol. Perfect timing since I had just put in my two week notice and was very much in a reflective but excited mood. The service really stood out. They seated me at a table even though I was dining alone, checked in at all the right moments, and still gave me space to enjoy the experience. Mecha nailed the food, the vibe, and the care, and it is absolutely a place I will keep coming back to.

The broth was SO good, and had a little spice to it. 5/5 Ambiance Such a cute vibe with booths and bar seating. Neon sign on the wall was fitting. If you're in NoMa and haven't tried Mecha Noodle Bar, you're missing out on one of DC's best-kept gems! The location is incredibly convenient--right in the heart of Union Market District--with plenty of nearby parking options, including the garages and lots that make getting in and out a breeze. No circling the block, no stress... just park and eat! Now let's talk happy hour because Mecha's is hands down one of the best in the entire city and easily the best in NoMa. Affordable, generous, and packed with flavor--this is the kind of happy hour that makes you want to become a regular. And the food? Absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was a standout: Ginger Beer - Fresh, punchy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, not too sweet. It comes with a cute little piece of candied ginger too! Koyo YUZU - Bright, crisp, and refreshing with that perfect Yuzu citrus pop. This is my favorite since Yuzu is an authentically Asian fruit and flavor, 10/10. Smashes Burger Bao - A must-order. Soft bao paired with that smashed burger flavor? Unbelievably good. Pork Belly Bao - Tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The kind of bao that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. The pork belly is perfectly sliced with all the right toppings and flavor Sweet & Sour Spareribs - Sticky, tangy, and fall-off-the-bone delicious. The sauce alone is enough to write home about. Exuding TENDERISM!!! Red Oil Dumplings - Spicy, silky, and full of depth. Easily some of the best dumplings I've had in DC. The sauce is amazing so be sure to break the dumplings and soak up the sauce! Peach Tea - Light, refreshing, and so smooth. The perfect way to round out the meal. Mecha is the rare place that checks every single box--location, quality, service, price, and unforgettable food. Highly recommend for happy hour, date night, or anytime you want a guaranteed great meal.
This was my first ramen experience and definitely not my last! I had the Korean fried chicken bao bun to start (very good) and the spicy beef ramen as my main. I'm still dreaming about the ramen! Delicious, flavorful and a good portion. The Thai iced tea boba was equally delicious. I wish they put less ice in it, otherwise wouldn't change a thing -- it was so tasty. Mecha Noodle Bar is a cute restaurant in Union Market that serves various types of ramen and pho! My friend and I popped in here on a weekday for lunch. I ordered the Brisket Pho - a delicious broth with actual pieces of American style brisket! While I did not realize this, I was very appreciative of a very kind woman on the waitstaff who gave me an additional bowl of flank to add into my soup. Flavorful and hit the spot on a cold afternoon! Despite the tasty menu items, the service was our biggest issue. Our server was incredibly rude to my friend - often banging the water cup and food bowls right in front of him. Additionally, he was not accommodating to our table the slightest. I noticed he was advertising the Happy Hour specials to all others in the restaurant except for us. It was disheartening to see in real time. One of the best meals that I have enjoyed in a very long time. The food here has rich and vibrant flavors. The quality and freshness of the ingredients set an unviable standard. Having had two meals on back to back days, I simply wanted to confirm how good it was. Also, the employees here are just AWESOME! Some of the best Ramen I've had recently in DC. All the appetizers and drinks were delicious. I enjoyed the bao buns, the smashed burger, and coconut shrimp was my favorite. The crab Rangoon it was decent. I just didn't like that. It was cold. I enjoyed the sake flight. The Ramen and pho was really delicious and super savory. This place was alright. Inside had a cool vibe--very modern with neat wood panels hanging throughout the room. I liked the low-lighting vibe. I went at lunch time, and it wasn't very crowded. I started off by ordering what I was thought was a frozen pina colada. After the order was in, I was then told that it was non-alcoholic but cost the same as the alcoholic frozen beverages (which I thought was odd). The drink--which was in front of me in the slushie maker--didn't come out until after I was already eating my ramen. I asked my waitress what made it green, and she didn't know; however, then I overheard another waitress tell customers it was pandan--so just FYI. The drink was really refreshing. I ordered the spicy miso ramen as my entree. I didn't think it was great--it was pretty salty, and I didn't love the noodles they used. My waitress was nice overall. I didn't request a receipt, but it did seem like the slushie ended up costing less than if it were alcoholic. Overall, this place was fine, but it doesn't compare to the other ramen bars I'm used to eating at in LA. read more

Stopped in a few days ago at the recommendation of a few friends and was mostly pleasantly surprised. As a ramen fanatic, I'm always leery trying new ramen spots, but the ramen here was actually reallly good. Things I enjoyed: - Spicy Miso ramen with an egg and corn, was amazing! Not super spicy, but had good flavor. - The spicy beef ramen was also delicious (not better than the spicy miso, but those at the table enjoyed it) - the space is really cute, lots of space and great decor Things I didn't enjoy so much: - I'm gonna assume our server was new...because balls were dropped all over the place. She was nice...but probably needs some more time learning the menu and how to enter things into the system to avoid confusion. - not a fan of the edamame but appreciate the different take on it. It's a charred edamame with savory taste rather than salty. Other than that, the ramen itself was really good! I really liked the restaurants layout spacious plenty of light and no tables in the walking aisles for those awkward random bumps from guest and servers . I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen and Firecracker wings. The ramen was great well seasoned not that spicy to me aaand I would recommend adding additional protein if you are part of the macros club. FYI it's not listed in the ingredients but it comes w/ an egg. The wings were flavorful with a nice dry rub they had hoisin sauce at the table but something a bit sweeter would be nice to complement the wings. Great spot for a quick pho or ramen. I had the vegetarian ramen and I think it was okay--lovely mushroom flavor but needs something else to balance out the earthy umami taste. Not bad at all, just a little one note. My friend enjoyed the flank steak pho. We also ordered the mushroom dumplings as a starter. The filling was flavorful however I was not a fan of the brown butter miso, I thought the dumplings needed a more acidity. They were also fried and I would have preferred steamed. What I loved is that you can get spiked boba teas. Not the best boba I've had in union market but I like having the option. Our server was Keondre and he was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is a bit tight and loud. I don't think it's the best option for intimate dates, but fast casual eats works well. read more

I only stopped in for happy hour this time but I was quite pleased with the service, decor and appetizers that I had. The service was great- my waiter gave great descriptions and recommendations. He made sure to check-in frequently on us. They also have a TV showing anime which was cool. Tables have your chopsticks, napkins and sauces already there. As for the food, the KFC bao was really good. The chicken was juicy and overall flavors were delicious. The pork belly bao came with a decent size piece of pork and my friend said it was tasty as well. The wings were good and I enjoyed the dry-rub. I can't wait to come back to try their Ramen. Came here on a Wednesday night and walked in with no reservation. It is a casual sort of place but with cool ambience. Great spot for a meal with friends or a casual date. I appreciated that the menu had many options other than ramen or pho, as my husband and I weren't in the mood for either during hot weather. We ordered several dishes to share, and the portions were filling. KFC bao comes in 2 buns, and we had it for happy hour price of $6, and it was a delicious starter. We also ordered kale salad, beef noodles (which was a cold dish), and some pretty meaty sweet and sour ribs, and finished with hand rolls (I had tofu, and I added a chili sauce from the table). We were pleased with the dishes we ordered. We couldn't have eaten any more! To pay, the server brought over a credit card reader, which I prefer, because it is a quicker process (and it offers tip percentages as well, so no need for me to do the math!) We will be back! We ate everything with chopsticks- there are only chopsticks at the table (maybe they do have forks if you just ask). read more

From the appetizers, to the drinks to the entree everything was divineeeee! We had the coconut shrimp (amazing) Edamame (best I've ever had) and Ramen that was so flavorful! They don't take reservations but my party got seated immediately upon entry. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and the KFC steamed bao. They have lots of gluten free options which my friend was estatic about. Ramen 10/10: Amazing! Has a kick to it but it's not too spicy. Make sure to pay $2 for extra noodles so you have lots to take home. The leftovers were just as good the next day! KFC Bao 6/10: the outside of the bao was soft but overall lacking sauce. It needs more kewpie and could use some hoisin. I didn't care for the pickled daikon carrots. It was overpowering and left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. read more

This is an absolute yes. My daughter was in town visiting and was craving some noodles. This place didn't have many reviews as they are newly open, but I was willing to take a chance and wanted to show her the union market. We arrived on a Friday evening and we quickly seated at the bar. The one downside for me about the seating is that they are backless stools. That is one of the reasons we selected bar seating as we both wanted a seat with Back support. Our drinks were super delicious. Refined, balanced, tasty, strong. This was my first time having Pho and it was delicious. The best part of the experience was our bartender. It was his first day "live " . He was attentive, funny, responsive and informative. The BEST noodles I've had in a while! Me and a few friends came in about an hour before close and the service was so quick. The server was very attentive and answered all of our questions. All the ingredients seemed really fresh and we are always talking about when we can go back. The restaurant itself is really cute, the lighting is little moody but bright enough to see everything. My sister and I got food to go from here after grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and my best was to describe the food was "interesting." Don't get me wrong, the egg rolls were decent but the kimchi fried rice with bacon and chicken really threw me off. It didn't taste like any authentic Asian food I've had before and I'm not sure if I enjoyed that. The egg rolls had a good crunch, but had a really thin sauce that was unable to stay on the egg roll when you dipped them. The service was really good, with a really nice waiter at the front and other workers checking in on us while we waited for our food. The inside was also beautiful! It had new wooden designs on the roof and anime cartoons playing on the tv screens. Personally, I'm not overly excited to come here again, but if I did I would try their pho or ramen instead of the other options. read more

Only went for the sake flight, but wow, this was a delight. I typically dislike the taste of sake, but the flavors offered were all delicious! From most favorite to least: 1, 3, 4, 2. The bushido is number one in my opinion because it maintains a good taste while also having the highest alcohol content. The blue one was best overall for taste and decent alcohol content. The citrus one was purely great taste, would be an amazing shooter. The Fuji was not bad at all, but something has to go last. Bartender was top tier, wish I remembered his name. This place is going to be a hit! Having only been open for 2 weeks and they are doing so many things right. The service was super friendly and welcoming. Our server Sergio, explained everything on the menu, I now know the difference between pho and ramen. The bartender, Roberto made amazing cocktails. They were absolutely delicious and well crafted. Now onto the food: general TSO shrimp : 10/10 Sticky, sesame ribs :10:10 Chicken wings: dry rub isn't my thing, so 7/10 ( added a little hoisin sauce to help). kfc bao buns: didn't try but my friend says good things! Great options for happy hour and some noodle bowls! Some quick Asian food fix as well! Coconut shrimp baos - it was very delicious and perfectly crunchy with some coconut flavor... it was filled with a bit of chili sauce, cilantro, pickled daikon-carrots. Well balanced flavors overall! I highly recommend this for anyone to try or going for pescatarian friendly option! Got spicy miso ramen option - red miso, chashu, mushrooms, chili oil, tamago egg and corn... very delicious as it wasn't too spicy for me until I reached bottom of the bowl, it got a little salty... Let me tell you this is what the union market neighborhood needed. Mecha Noodle Bar has quickly become my fave. From the moment with walked in the space the vibes were on point. We had a chance to check out the family and friends soft opening and it felt like a warm hug from mecha to us. We ordered based off of the recommendations of Shaunie and Vivica, the Director and AGMs, and the recs did not disappoint. We tried several dishes: munchies (appetizers): edamame, firecracker wings, general tso's shrimp, mushroom dumplings, and red oil dumplings) Pho: Pho sizzle with the short rib and chili oil Ramen: Kai Miso Ramen Drinks: boba tea - Thai iced tea and Coconut chai Hojicha I was surprised by how yummy the roasted mushroom dumplings were in that brown butter miso sauce. Say less!! Also I love a seafood ramen, I really do, and the Kai Miso Ramen did not disappoint. It is well balanced, served with lobster, shrimp and soft shell crab. The broth is soo tasty. I really like this place! I have tried their ramen and the kimchi rice with chicken. The portions are very generous. If you go to their happy hours all the munchies and sake are half price but the portions are still regular size. I've been to MECHA noodle twice and absolutely enjoyed both times! Not only is the ambiance and environment very warm and welcoming, but they had a banger playlist going on both times I've gone! I've tried two different ramens and I would say the Tonkotsu ramen is absolutely fire! Add a bit of chili oil et voila! Their bao buns are really delicious. I've had the KFC and pork belly. Great options for drinks: from boba, to alcoholic and specialty drinks, and regular. I am so happy this is about a 10min walk from my place, this will definitely be a place I'll be going to often! Side note, I love how they have Pho as well! Gives the customer options of different type of soups. read more

Pho and ramen were pretty good. Not necessarily my favorite spot for either but not the worst! The ribs were tasty and would highly recommend. Also for their soju taster which was fun. We did a walk in during lunch and it wasn't too busy. We were sat right away and had great service. They were attentive and the drinks and food came out quickly. First, the KFC bao was just okay. The flavors didn't taste like they went together well. The chicken wasn't as good as I thought it would've been. I liked the bun itself, it was soft and fluffy without it being too much or taking it over. The wings were crispy, but a bit over salted/seasoned. The general tso's shrimp was my favorite. They were crispy and comes with sticky rice. We also loved the kimchi fried rice. It was crispy and a large portion. My other favorite was the red oil dumplings. It was full of meat and the sauce it comes in went perfectly well with it. Last was the beef ramen. I didn't love it personally because of the broth. But others at the table enjoyed it. There are so many more dishes we want to try so I can't wait to come back! read more
