Mecha Noodle Bar was a great addition to a day at the Smithsonian National Zoo and the second visit confirmed everything I remembered. Free parking in the fenced in lot and a short walk made access easy. A small detail that goes a long way when you have a hungry group of college kids ready to eat. We just missed happy hour but that did not stop us from ordering off the munchies and drinks menu. I ordered the liquid gold. My daughter finally found her drink after two misses, mango sticky rice and lotus flower bomb, before landing on a spiked Thai iced tea that was a clear winner. We ordered the spicy tuna hand rolls, yuzu kosho corn, red oil and roasted mushroom dumplings, firecracker wings, and Korean fried chicken baos. The dumplings and kosho corn stood out, both coming with sauces that had their own thing going on. The wings were suggested as one of their best appetizers and cooked well but the taste would have fallen flat without the lime leaf ranch to carry them. Entrees brought pho bo vien, spicy miso 2.0 ramen, spicy beef ramen, and tonkotsu 3.0 ramen, all served piping hot and full of flavor. Three squeeze bottles of sauce sit on the table and they are worth trying. If you have a large party ask for backups because one round will not cover the table. Portions were large enough that to go containers were necessary. The space is large and inviting, bright colors and wooden furniture pleasantly somewhere between upscale and casual, loud enough for energy but quiet enough for real conversation. Exactly the right vibe for a celebration with adult kids and their mom. We skipped dessert to save room for ice cream down the block, tapped to pay, got a texted receipt, and were out the door. We will be back for happy hour because 50% off drinks and munchies would have made this outing even better. Mecha Noodle Bar is a table worth gathering at with family and friends.
Loved every thing we tried! The Short Ribs are amazing, Barbecue Skewer, AMAZING. This whole menu and the happy hour combined is a steal. Eating like Anime Royalty and they play Anime like Naruto on the screens as well. Intimate and beautiful moments here where you're dining alone or with the crew!
Came here with a friend and had a lovely time! The service was quick and friendly. I didn't love the backless stools but that's my only complaint. I got the pho ga and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely will be back!
Mecha is by far my new favorite ramen spot! I can't believe I haven't done a review already. First things first, you have to get the edamame. This is the most uniquely prepared edamame I've ever had. It's packed with herbs and spices and so flavorful that you won't go back to regular edamame after trying it here. I've ordered quite a few items off the menu, and I've been equally satisfied every time. I've had the Pho Ga and the Shoyu Paitan...both were so delicious. They come with extras so you can customize your bowl with hoisin, chili flakes, and more, which I love. One time I went with a friend who's pescatarian, and we ordered the Cha Ca La Bong (catfish). It was incredibly flavorful and filling. It's served cold, a delicious sauce. But don't let this cold dish fool you ...it does not disappoint. We also ordered the General Tso shrimp, and I got the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Everything was delicious. As for drinks, I don't quite remember which frozen one I ordered, but it didn't give much of a buzz. The regular alcoholic drinks, though? They definitely got the job done. Every time I've gone, the service has been excellent. Everyone is welcoming, smiling, and genuinely seems proud to serve you. I also appreciate that if you don't finish your ramen, they box it up thoughtfully, packing the broth and noodles separately so it stays fresh. Highly recommend!
Highlighting a few of the amazing spots we found in DC. I was so impressed with this fusion spot, they reimagined some classic dishes in the most unique ways. To start the wings were crispy and lightly spicy. Then we ordered a pho which had an interesting ginger and possibly liver texture? The ramen broth had a surprising shrimp flavor, the noodles were bouncy and pork was flavorful and tender. Getting the pho and ramen was literally the best of both worlds! Definitely recommend!
Mecha Noodle Bar was pretty good. I visited on a Thursday at 6 PM and it was about 1/3 full. The place is very casual. Many of the tables have benches on one side and small stool on the other; it's fine, but not the most comfy. Tables are also loaded with the basic chopsticks, napkins, menus, and condiments you need. We tried the Kale Salad, Red Oil Dumplings, Firecracker Wings, Spicy Miso 2.0 ramen, and Tonkotsu 3.0 ramen. The kale salad was fine but a little lame. The wings weren't "firecracker" -- not spicy at all -- but had a very nice dry rub and smoky flavor (very similar to the wings at Succotash). The dumplings were enormous and pretty good, but I wish the sauce stuck to the dumplings better. Ramen was also good; I preferred the Spicy Miso over the Tonkotsu. Service was a little too basic. We had to flag down a waiter to get water, water wasn't refilled, the check and pay pad weren't picked up quickly, and I got the wrong ramen order.
People didn't used to come to this neighborhood for food and even after union market came, it was not a place for a nice sitdown meal. But this Ramen bar along with several other restaurants have arrived and were bustling. It would've been hard to get a table, but I snagged a bar seat for a pre-movie meal. They had a couple of vegetarian options, but the idea of a curry laksa with basil oil sounded mouthwatering. The ginger beer I got to open head quite a kick and came with a large piece of candy ginger as well. I had thought about a Boba tea, but I was not disappointed in this. The Ramen was excellent. Spicier than expected with a good variety of vegetables. Being seated where I could watch, the preparation was inspiring as well. And the basil oil did add to an already intoxicating flavor combination. They hit exactly what I was hoping for from them.
Tried the Firecracker Wings, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Mushroom Dumplings. The Firecracker Wings were just okay, but the Spicy Salmon Roll and Mushroom Dumplings were really good! The servers were sweet, and the ambiance was cozy. It wasn't very crowded/was pretty chill.
Mecha noodle bar is conveniently located in Union market. The menu is quite extensive, with lots more options than your traditional ramen spot. I ordered the spicy miso and added an egg. My bowl came out surprisingly fast. I was worried it wouldn't be good with how quickly it came out, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot and the broth was delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked and I loved the taste of each of the ingredients in the bowl. The atmosphere is dope too - they were playing Outkast and Lauryn Hill while I was there, so really cool vibes. My server was also very friendly and attentive. Overall, I think this is a great and much needed addition to the neighborhood and I highly recommend checking it out.
I went to Mecha by myself and it ended up being one of those meals that just lands perfectly. I ordered the General Tso's shrimp and it was phenomenal. Crispy, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted after craving shrimp and Asian inspired food. Every bite was balanced and satisfying and honestly just made me happy. This is the kind of dish you keep thinking about after you leave. I also ordered the In My No Drinking Era mocktail with pineapple, ginger, Thai mango, citrus, yuzu, and club soda, and it felt genuinely celebratory even without alcohol. Perfect timing since I had just put in my two week notice and was very much in a reflective but excited mood. The service really stood out. They seated me at a table even though I was dining alone, checked in at all the right moments, and still gave me space to enjoy the experience. Mecha nailed the food, the vibe, and the care, and it is absolutely a place I will keep coming back to.

If you're in NoMa and haven't tried Mecha Noodle Bar, you're missing out on one of DC's best-kept gems! The location is incredibly convenient--right in the heart of Union Market District--with plenty of nearby parking options, including the garages and lots that make getting in and out a breeze. No circling the block, no stress... just park and eat! Now let's talk happy hour because Mecha's is hands down one of the best in the entire city and easily the best in NoMa. Affordable, generous, and packed with flavor--this is the kind of happy hour that makes you want to become a regular. And the food? Absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was a standout: Ginger Beer - Fresh, punchy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, not too sweet. It comes with a cute little piece of candied ginger too! Koyo YUZU - Bright, crisp, and refreshing with that perfect Yuzu citrus pop. This is my favorite since Yuzu is an authentically Asian fruit and flavor, 10/10. Smashes Burger Bao - A must-order. Soft bao paired with that smashed burger flavor? Unbelievably good. Pork Belly Bao - Tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The kind of bao that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. The pork belly is perfectly sliced with all the right toppings and flavor Sweet & Sour Spareribs - Sticky, tangy, and fall-off-the-bone delicious. The sauce alone is enough to write home about. Exuding TENDERISM!!! Red Oil Dumplings - Spicy, silky, and full of depth. Easily some of the best dumplings I've had in DC. The sauce is amazing so be sure to break the dumplings and soak up the sauce! Peach Tea - Light, refreshing, and so smooth. The perfect way to round out the meal. Mecha is the rare place that checks every single box--location, quality, service, price, and unforgettable food. Highly recommend for happy hour, date night, or anytime you want a guaranteed great meal.
Another amazing visit! Had fried rice this time accompanied by a One Way Ticket. Loved both of them. It was evening so the place was much busier and the mixologist behind the bar seemed a bit frazzled by the constant orders coming in. Amazing food. I ordered small plates. The pork belly Bao was sooo delicious. A large medallion of ok belly in that bun with delicious sauce. The Kani hand roll was an amazing surprise. Tasty and crunchy. The rice could have been a little fresher but the toppings were just great. I had the miso Cesar salad. The greens were very fresh and the dressing was just so good. I've tried this place a few times and have had a pleasant experience. I've tried the chicken ramen, which was flavorful and filling, the chicken (Szechuan peppercorn) , it's good but spicy- there's a spice that is numbing, weird experience but good nonetheless. I've also had the pork egg rolls which are a staple for me and so good. The Korean fried chicken bao buns were delicious, flavorful and saucy! The space is large with ample seating, they have a happy hour that's worth it. The service is always lovely! Super friendly staff ! read more

We visited Mecha Noodle Bar located in DC while on a work trip and it was super cool! Mecha is a good vibes, cool decor Asian fusion restaurant with a dope playlist to match! Our waitress was really nice and greeted us with a smile. We started out with an order of delicious red oil dumplings and they were sooo good! I had the hot sake that came out in a cool beaker! The Spill the Tea cocktail was pretty good too. For our mains we had the spicy beef ramen and the pho sizzle and both were very delicious and full of flavor! Go check them out y'all! I'm one of those people who craves soup when it's scorching hot out. I was sat at the bar where the bartender recommended starting with a Thai Iced Tea which was good. She was great the entire time I was there and was very efficient. I ordered a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll which was delicious, possibly my favorite part of this meal. And for my entree I ordered a bowl of Pho Bo Vien. As a pho fan I was excited when they brought out a hot, steaming bowl that smelled amazing. The noodles and broth were delicious. I do wish there had been more meat though. Overall this was a great spot to grab dinner after a long day. If you're dining alone, I recommend sitting at the bar and chatting with the staff! read more

What do you have on a hot day? Ramen, of course. Dropped by Mecha for a bite before going to the airport. The place has a unique design using lumber as a ceiling design. Not a bad spot - they have great service, cool decor, and the menu all sounds really great - but the food I ordered was a mixed bag. The bao aren't fresh and the ones I had weren't fully steamed either which, when paired with the Korean fried chicken, made for a dry bite that was difficult to swallow. I also tried the Temple of the Sun boba and the boba was nice and chewy but the tea had a very sharp tang even for me and I love pineapple and passionfruit. Overall the ramen was probably the best - loved the chashu and the tonkotsu broth but they use thin straight noodles and I tend to prefer a thicker noodle. Admittedly ramen preferences vary so depending on how you like your noodles, this might be the spot for you. read more

A cool experience. From the attentive service to the passion in detail of the spot. They have a full bar and many styles of drinks something like a tiki bar mixed with amazing dishes. Boozy boba tea and bao buns!? Say less, I'm there. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and strawberry matcha boba teas (unspiked). Both were pretty good. For food, we got both bao buns on the happy hour menu, which were solid as well. Not the best boba tea or bao buns I've had but solid renditions. I really liked the veggies and the sauce on the pork belly buns. The unagi hand roll exceeded my expectations. The textures and flavors were spot on! Be prepared to wait, but know it's worth it. Went here for the first time and really enjoyed the Spicy Beef Ramen paired with the Smoke Show cocktail (espolon reposado, ilegal mezcal, passionfruit, ginger, agave, fresh lime juice, salt). For dessert, my party and I shared the mochi tasting plate with black sesame, matcha & ube. The black sesame one was my fave! The service was great as well. Super attentive, and knew the menu well. I definitely will be coming back when I'm in DC again. Oh, and while you wait for your table, just stand outside and watch everyone try and open the doors. It's pretty entertaining. read more

The ambiance and interior was good. The service was excellent. I ordered a ramen and it was pretty good. The only thing I disliked was the banana matcha latte. It is 8 dollars and it taste nothing like the matches in LA. The boba is tasteless, the drink tastes more like kale juice which is not worth 8 dollars. Mecha is a newer noodle bar located in NOMA, that makes you question everything you ever knew about boba tea! I came here for a happy hour with some coworkers and got the coconut horchata bubble tea with bourbon, and it was absolutely delicious! Similarly, my coworkers had nothing but good things to say about the other cocktails that we ordered. Each was crafted with care and topped with fresh herbs or dehydrated fruits. While I did not personally try any of the food, apparently the ramen was some of the best my colleague had ever had in the area! The wait staff were very kind and accommodating so i would give the service 5/5. The ambiance is perfect for a small to middle sized group outing, as they don't have bar seating that is just for drinks. Service was great and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the dishes. We were seated quickly and the place was very busy. The music was a bit loud. The kimchi rice was a large shareable portion or good for one and a to-go box The most popular dish was the chili beef ramen but I didn't get that. The tonkatsu was a good size. Not very memorable but hearty and worth the price. The broth was tasty. The OG cocktail was a bit too sweet for my taste but well made. I'd give this 8/10. It was a hearty meal that was reasonably priced for the area. And we also loved the house made ginger beer! read more

Sooo good. Ambiance, decor, and service were great. Our server explained so much of what was on the menu. We ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice, Crab Rangoon, Spicy Tuna hand roll, and KFC Bao Bun and enjoyed it all. The deconstructed Crab Rangoon, in particular, was fun, delicious, and a generous helping. Chanced upon their first day opening and got treated to a free bowl of ramen/pho in addition to complimentary boba/cocktail. The ramen was slightly spicy and absolutely delicious. It comes with a generous serving of fried lobster, shrimp, and mena. By default, the boba is not spiked, but also has an option for adding alcohol. Glad that they're opening up a branch here in Washington DC and I look forward to try other ramen/pho options here. read more

When we visited Mecha Noodle bar, we really didn't know what to expect. The atmosphere is very inviting, down to earth and chill. This establishment is truly exceptional. Our server was very professional, courteous and timely so that was a bonus to our evening. I had Beef noodles and the Korean Fried Chicken. Each dish was of exceptional quality and flavor. No complaints. New ramen/pho spot in Union market and they are presenting flavors and personality with every bite. The spicy beef ramen was everything !!! I also recommend the kimchi fried rice and ribs- the ribs were sooo tender. The cocktails were also spirit forward yet tasty. When you walk in you will be in awe at the decor. Wooden beams coming from the sky, an open kitchen, and TVs showing old classics. The wings were fried a bit too hard for me and needed some sort of sauce but I'd go back and try them again . read more

Disclaimer: On May 2024, this restaurant has been open for just a few weeks. There are a lot of wiggle room for newly opened restaurants because the normal hiccups involved with any new operations. With that said, let's go. FOOD: Tasty! Perfect temperature and generous portions. We ordered general tso's shrimp (sooo worth it), mushroom dumplings (different and a tiny bit on the salty side), beef noodle (cold and complete for any hungry belly), spring roll (dummy proof comes with a stack of crispy lettuce), shrimp boa (it's a shrimp patty, no bueno), and a Thai bubble tea (did not try but no complaints or praises from friend). Service: We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night a couple of hours before closing. Our waitress was not friendly or efficient in taking our order, hence the 4 star. Three fourths of our orders came out wrong which was okay because a more experienced waiter was working fast and hard to correct everything. Hats off to the gentleman who supervised the floor the night of May 25th, 2024. They offered to pack your leftovers for you. The containers are not microwave safe or very secure. Ambiance: I'd describe the place as potentially fancy with a down to earth spin. Younger people all around in very comfy attire. The ceiling are high and decorated with slabs of wood. Very impressive design. The seats are standard and one side of most table are booth seating. Table are stacked with chopsticks and napkins. Music was hip and nostalgic. Can't wait to go back for the general tso's shrimp alone. read more

The food and ambiance was amazing. We came for a birthday dinner and where we ordered the poutine, which was amazing. The fries were crunchy and it paired great with the Japanese curry and cheese. However, the service was disappointing. Another thing we ordered was the pho king which unfortunately spilled on the floor because the plastic container broke and we ended up not having broth. The server helped clean it up pretty fast and offered to replace the broth. We were under the impression by the way she had offered the broth that they were just going to compensate it and give it for free or at least at a small fee. But when we got the check we were surprised with an extra $7.70 fee just for the broth. That is a steep price just for broth, no noodles or anything else. If we had been told would be an extra $7 we wouldn't have gotten it. I try not to write negative reviews, but this was extremely disappointing as the food again was really good but just a huge let down with the service read more

Mecha Noodle Bar Review: Impressive Start (4.5/5) Mecha Noodle Bar in NoMa came out the gate swinging! The service was extremely fast, organized, and approachable, setting the tone for a great dining experience. Drinks: The drinks were excellent; we enjoyed the OG Smash and the Thai tea with boba. The level of detail at the bar, with good spirits on the shelves and thoughtfully cared-for garnishes like Thai basil in water, shows great potential. Happy Hour: Prices were fantastic during happy hour, adding even more value to the visit. We got the KFC Baos. Food: The ramen and pho were delicious. While not quite at the level of Houston's Viet Town (extremely high standard), they were still very good. My only suggestion would be that the ramen was a bit too creamy for my taste, making it almost gelatinous and hard to drink. Usually it's the other way around, so I commend them for going hard on the flavor. Lastly, they don't skimp on the proteins and use great cuts - we love that. Overall, Mecha Noodle Bar delivered an extremely solid experience, and we'll definitely be back. Most new places have a lot of kinks to sort out, but Mecha is looking great and seems poised to maintain its high standards. We hope they can keep up the great work! read more

I stopped by Mecha Noodle Bar for a pre-show dinner date on a Friday night and enjoyed the new addition to the neighborhood. Mecha is a casual sit down restaurant and nothing fancy which was what we were looking for. The bar was open and easy to grab a seat at on a Friday night. Immediately, I was greeted by very friendly staff and told how the cocktail menu had recently changed. They have a good selection and I opted for the One Way Ticket. For food, there were some hits and also some misses. My favorite item of the night was the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) Steamed Baos, which I would definitely recommend. The Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs were also pretty good. We ordered the roasted mushroom dumplings and they are not your typical dumplings. They were very large and fried and reminded me more of empanadas. I prefer a steamed dumpling so I would not order these again. Overall, I had a good experience at Mecha and would be interested in returning to actually try the noodles and more food items. read more

Every dish is ON POINT taste, texture, and price. The service is impeccable- super friendly, helpful, and attentive! And the ambiance- the ac is set just right, space and restrooms are so clean, and overall just feels so good to be in their restaurant. You won't regret it! This is a new noodle bar that some friends told me about. That I should try it. Well I did just that. The entrance allows for a full view of the dining room area and some of the kitchen. Very nice esthetic. Beautiful wood ceiling/art. We were greeted by the general manager Gabriel. He was very helpful in serving food and drink, helping us to order, and answering questions. We ordered edamame and chicken wings. The wings were cooked well done as requested. The edamame is prepared in a sauce and an onion. Very flavorful. Service was quick and efficient.
