The site was clean and well manicured with a good distance away from other campers. Two pools, one for adults, the other children and a hot tub. Ten shower/restrooms that have laundry and a station outside for washing dishes. Overall a very nice campground. My only critique is a little more attention to the restrooms as the garbage was often overflowing. I truly appreciate when a business responds to a review/critique and takes steps measures to make things better. For that, I'm adding a star .

Renter Beware! Reserved a specific cabin (#7) for this years 2025 Sturgis Rally. I made the…read morereservation 1 yeat in advance with a deposit. Upon arrival, without notification, they Cabin 7 to someone else. I specifically reserved it for the convenience of easy access and ample room to part both my truck and Harley. When the front desk people told me they moved me to another cabin behind #7, they said someone else needed that cabin because of camping gear and closer trailer access. They cabin they moved me to did not even have enough room for both my bike and truck. When asking for an explanation, Twila, the manager said "I dont like your attitude and if you don't like it, stay somewhere else". Even after reserving a specic cabin with a deposit, they don't care. I traveled all the way from California and Twila knew that finding new accommodations under $1000 a night would be impossible. Never trust the cabin you reserved will be available and be prepared to ask to leave if you dont like it!

We are currently on a two week rv trip and had reservations for 5 days for two camp sites at…read moreCuster's Gulch. It would have been our first time at Custer and the national memorial. Unfortunately, on our travel day, my rv became disabled between Utah and Wyoming and required me to immediately bring it in for service . The closest Cummings service center was in the opposite direction. We contacted Custer's Gulch to explain our issues and indicated the Service center would not be able to work on our coach until Monday. Our reservations started on Saturday. The office person explained the cancellation policy and indicated we would lose our total cost for both sites. We weren't looking for a refund but asked for a credit that we could use at another time. No flexibility on there policy, no compassion on the current issues we were facing. It was a disappointment that they could not offer us a credit. This was an unexpected situation and not a "last minute we are changing our travel plans". I have stayed at many other campgrounds and the campground staff have also been helpful and flexible. This staff was not. I would be mindful of their policies prior to booking this campground if you are traveling to see Mount Rushmore.

Sylvan Lake was easily one of the highlights of our trip to South Dakota and one of the most…read morebeautiful places we visited in the Black Hills. The scenery here is absolutely breathtaking. Crystal-clear water is surrounded by massive granite rock formations, towering pine trees, and some of the most picturesque landscapes you'll find anywhere in the region. One of our favorite parts was walking around the lake on the easy Shoreline Trail. The trail is well maintained and offers incredible views from every angle. We also enjoyed walking across the historic stone dam, which provides a fantastic vantage point for photos and a great perspective of the lake and surrounding rock formations. What makes Sylvan Lake special is that it's the perfect destination for almost everyone. Whether you enjoy hiking, photography, kayaking, swimming, rock scrambling, or simply relaxing in nature, there's something here for you. The area is clean, well cared for, and easy to access. The location is also an excellent starting point for hikers heading to Black Elk Peak, but even if you don't plan to do a longer hike, the lake itself is worth the visit. If you're exploring Custer State Park or driving the Needles Highway, don't miss Sylvan Lake. It's one of those rare places that looks even better in person than it does in photographs. This is an awesome campground within an incredible state park…read more We stayed two nights at Sylvan Lake Campground and were really impressed, especially by how clean everything was! I couldn't believe how spotless the bathrooms were every single time I went in, it was perfect. The electric sites are fairly close together, so if you're looking for more privacy, I'd recommend the walk-in sites. The unfortunate thing about the walk-in sites are the more secluded sites (like #16, #17, and #21) require a bit of an uphill trek. It's not a long walk, but it does take a little bit of effort to get everything up there. That said, Site #21 was one of the best campsites I've ever stayed in, it was worth the extra sweat. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars is because the trail to the walk-in sites is very rough. They do provide a wheelbarrow to help carry your stuff, but the terrain is so rocky that using it seemed like more trouble compared to just walking your stuff up. Overall we enjoyed our stay and everyone was so quiet, it really felt like it was just you in nature.

Highlight is how peaceful and calm it is here. (this is during the the Sturgis motorcycle rally). It's a pretty small campground (compared to some others). Jerry takes customer service to a whole other level. He is so professional and old school with the…read moreway he treats his guests. It's truly a lost art and this man is keeping it alive. He came out to the RV as we pulled up so that we didn't have to get down and gave me all the paperwork right there and directed me to my site after giving me a brief rundown of the place. I really enjoyed my stay here. The campground was covered in neatly mowed grass and the RV spaces were fairly decent sized. There was a nice fire pit at each site made from an old truck rim (my kids got a kick out of that). The kids were able to play on a playground near the horse stables there. It seemed like a popular place for folks to come and stay who were traveling with their horses. The office was very nice and clean, and Jerry's wife was just as welcoming and professional as he was. The bathrooms were impeccably clean and well-kept. The laundry facility was also nice and clean. We were also told to place our trash bags at the end of our site and that someone would come around in the morning and pick it up for us. How cool! We were NOT disappointed. Plenty of room in the pull through, the whole facility was super clean, nice hosts, great location. We will definitely stay here next time we're in the area!
