I had never really tried Mediterranean until my wife convinced me to. At first glance the food looks interesting but not sure if I would have tried it on my own. The rice was well made and not over-seasoned to let the star of the dish stand out - the beef, the roasted tomato (this is what I LOVE about Persian food), and the roasted chile jalapeño (so good). This place serves excellent, made to order grilled food. I always get the fish (choice of trout or mahi-mahi) because the flavor and grilling are perfect. I also love their chopped salad which is a mix of cucumber, tomato, onions, herbs and spices tossed is lemon vinaigrette. The chopped salad comes with the meal. One of those mall stalls that probably should be a restaurant. It's been there forever, and for good reason. The food is cooked to perfection on a grill. The seasoned meats are balanced well with the white rice. I've tried most everything, you won't be disappointed with #11 bulgarian chicken with hummas! The cucumber salad is a winner too! Used to be Massis Kabob. But it seems like the service is even slower and the lady who is in the front is even less customer friendly. The food is about the same but the prices went up slightly. I loved this place when it was Masis Kabob and I guess in the 3 years since I had been here last, lol, it changed over to Mediterranean Express. I did see the same lady working there though, so I thought it would be the same food. Anyway, with the departure of Masis Kabob, the ground beef quality and serving size also departed. The ground beef has lots of hard fat pieces and the kabobs are now smaller/shorter than they used to be. The rice is still good...Med. Express did satisfy my Persian food craving though. Simply put, food here has strong flavors while the quality of ingredients are pretty high. Chicken is moist, well-seasoned, and cooked near perfection. Pita bread is soft and fresh. Gyro meat, which is thinly cut, is pretty lean but full of flavor. Lettuce and tomatoes in the pita sandwiches are fresh. Came here on a whim and boy were we dissapointed. The one star is for the salad which is okay. We got the steak plate for 12 dollars and it literally had 4 pieces of meat inside. One pita bread and no hummus and a ton of rice. The meat chunks were rubbery and not tasty. For almost $10 on a fast food place, which is just a little bit under from places like Raffi's (which is sooo good), I expected this place to be decent. Man, was I wrong. The whole box was just full of rice and then maybe like 6 pieces of chicken. It was like 80% rice, 20% chicken. Salad was really salty. To get garlic spread that costs $0.50! And it was like raw garlic. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the chicken was pretty decent flavoured. This is located in the Food Court of the Montebello Mall and is one of the better options. I've had a few of the sandwiches and the plates. The meats are fresh & juicy. The basmati rice is fluffy. The pita bread is soft. I like ordering the chicken or shish kebab plates when I'm hungry. They also come with cucumber salad and grilled veggies. The sandwiches are perfect for a grab & go lunch, & comes with fries or cucumber salad. The only thing is, it's a lil pricy for some items and they take time to prep the food because everything is made to order. So make sure to order first before doing any errands in the mall. My parents love this place so when I went to see them on Saturday they took me to the Montebello Town Center to try it out. I must say for a food court Mediterranean place it was pretty good! I had the #11 which was the Hungarian Chicken dish (which was like a regular persian type chicken kebab). It was really moist and nicely flavored. They gave you a sauce on the side and I had no clue what it was for...wasn't sure if it was soup or a dip for the chicken..it kinda looked like chicken broth. I asked them and they said it's to pour on top of the basmati rice. It was pretty good when I did it. It also came with a really good vinegary cucumber salad. I'd definitely go back again. read more

The food court in the mall isn't exactly the first place I would think of when I want a delicious and filling meal but SURPRISE! The Bulgarian Chicken and the Hungarian Beef are the best I've ever tasted. The chicken is nice and moist and the beef is nice and tender. Both are full of flavor. The Chelo Beef is ok. It would be my backup if they were out of Hungarian Beef but not my first choice. The cucumber salad that comes with the meal is super yummy and the rice is perfectly cooked. I've had my fair share of Mediterranean food (Armenian, Greek, Afghany, Persian, Lebanese, you name it!) as it's one of my favorite cuisines. I tried their Trout combo and replaced the rice with their cucumber salad & yogurt. It was tasty and fresh but one of the side dishes had too much garlic or onions because I had terrible after breath for several hours. I really didn't know which of the dishes but whatever they put in there, i couldn't get rid of the thirst and lingering dry mouth with garlic/onion smell. LOL.
